Annamalai’s Resignation Letter Reveals The Real Reason Behind His BJP Exit

Annamalai's Exit From BJP Finalized As Per Reports

Former Tamil Nadu BJP president K. Annamalai has officially resigned from the Bharatiya Janata Party’s primary membership, bringing an end to months of speculation over his future within the party. BJP National President Nitin Nabin subsequently accepted his resignation.

Annamalai had travelled to New Delhi earlier this week and met Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday, 2 June 2026, before formally stepping down. His resignation comes months after he was replaced by Nainar Nagenthran as the Tamil Nadu BJP president and following the revival of the BJP’s electoral alliance with the AIADMK ahead of the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.

In his resignation letter dated June 2 and addressed to Nitin Nabin, Annamalai cited differences with the party leadership regarding the future direction of politics in Tamil Nadu.

Recalling his discussions with senior leaders, Annamalai wrote that he had expressed disagreements over the past 18 months and did not wish to burden the party leadership any further with his views on building a growth-oriented and culturally rooted political movement in the state. He said that after multiple conversations with the leadership, he had come to the conclusion that their views on Tamil Nadu did not align.

The former state president stated that he had repeatedly conveyed his vision for the party’s future in Tamil Nadu during discussions with the central leadership. According to the letter, those conversations ultimately convinced him that there were fundamental differences regarding the way forward in the state.

Annamalai further wrote that the time had come for him to step away from the party, reflect on the purpose of his entry into politics and determine his future course. He requested that he be relieved of all organisational responsibilities and that his resignation from the BJP’s primary membership be accepted with immediate effect.

The former IPS officer also thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP leadership for entrusting him with significant responsibilities at a young age. He expressed gratitude for the support extended to the various causes and concerns relating to Tamil Nadu that he had consistently raised during his tenure in the party.

Annamalai’s resignation marks a significant development in Tamil Nadu politics, given his prominence as the BJP’s most recognisable face in the state over the past several years.

Annamalai Announces To Form A New People’s Movement And Turn It Into A Political Party

Annamalai's Exit From BJP Finalized As Per Reports

Following the acceptance of his resignation, Annamalai addressed his supporters and unveiled plans for a new political movement that he said would eventually evolve into a political party.

Speaking about his decision, he revealed that he had informed the BJP leadership of his intention to resign as early as 4 December 2025.

“I told the party on 4 December 2025 that I am going to resign. The party asked me to finish the elections and then go,” he said.

Annamalai described his departure as the result of a deeper ideological reflection and said he wanted to create a platform capable of bringing systemic change to Tamil Nadu politics.

“It was a great conflict whether I am an Indian person or a Tamilian,” he said, while explaining his political journey and future plans.

He announced that the new initiative would be called the APJ Abdul Kalam Centre for Ethics and Politics, with its headquarters in Coimbatore. The movement, he said, would focus on leadership development, ethical politics, and the participation of professionals and technocrats in public life.

“We will encourage all segments of society to participate in the political movement. Furthermore, more technocrats will be encouraged to join the party,” he said.

Annamalai said the movement would seek to transform the state’s political culture by moving away from personality-driven politics and hereditary leadership structures.

“We should use all available talent for the development of the state. To achieve that, we have to change our political grammar and culture. We should end the cult politics and dynastic politics,” he said.

He added that no individual should become indispensable in public life and that the organisation would be built to outlast its leaders.

“There is no permanent MLA, MP or minister. This includes myself. This is going to be our goal and motto of our political movement,” he said.

Declaring that “there is a need for another political party” in Tamil Nadu, Annamalai confirmed that the movement would contest the next Assembly election in the state.

He also launched the website wetheleader.org, inviting citizens to join the initiative. According to Annamalai, the organisation will identify, train and prepare individuals to contest elections at every level, from panchayats and local bodies to the Assembly and Parliament.

He acknowledged that building a viable political alternative would take time and urged supporters to remain patient as the movement gradually expands its organisational strength across Tamil Nadu.

Annamalai also appealed to his supporters to engage responsibly on social media and avoid inflammatory messaging. He apologised for any instances in which overenthusiastic supporters may have hurt the sentiments of others.

With the launch of the APJ Abdul Kalam Centre for Ethics and Politics, Annamalai has set the stage for what could become a new political force in Tamil Nadu, ending his association with the BJP while positioning himself for an independent political future.

BJP Accepts Annamalai’s Resignation From Primary Membership

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has formally accepted the resignation of former Tamil Nadu BJP president K. Annamalai from the party’s primary membership, marking a significant development in Tamil Nadu politics.

In a statement issued on 5 June 2026, BJP National President Nitin Nabin accepted the resignation submitted by Annamalai, bringing an end to months of speculation surrounding his future within the party.

“The National President of the Bharatiya Janata Party, Nitin Nabin, has accepted the resignation submitted by the Tamil Nadu Ex. State President, K. Annamalai from the primary membership of the Party,” the BJP said in an official release.

The decision comes three days after Annamalai met Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP National President Nitin Nabin and BJP National General Secretary B.L. Santhosh in New Delhi. During the meetings held on 2 June 2026, Annamalai formally submitted his resignation letter to the party leadership.

Sources indicate that the former Tamil Nadu BJP chief is expected to announce a new political movement in the coming days, as reported in The Hindu. Fueling speculation over his next political move, Annamalai had earlier announced that he would share his thoughts regarding his future political course through social media at 12 noon on 5 June 2026.

Annamalai, a former Indian Police Service (IPS) officer from the Karnataka cadre, joined the BJP in August 2020 after resigning from the civil services. Within a year of joining the party, he was appointed president of the BJP’s Tamil Nadu unit on 16 July 2021.

During his tenure, Annamalai emerged as one of the BJP’s most visible and outspoken leaders in Tamil Nadu, leading several campaigns against the ruling DMK government and attempting to expand the party’s presence in the State.

However, his electoral journey remained unsuccessful. He contested the 2021 Tamil Nadu Assembly election from Aravakurichi but was defeated. He later contested the 2024 Lok Sabha election from Coimbatore and lost that contest as well.

Despite widespread speculation, Annamalai did not contest the recently concluded Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.

His tenure as Tamil Nadu BJP president came to an end on 11 April 2025, when senior BJP leader Nainar Nagenthran was appointed as his successor.

With the BJP now formally accepting his resignation, political attention has shifted to Annamalai’s next move, particularly amid indications that he may soon unveil a new political platform or movement outside the BJP framework.

Meet CJP’s Latest Supporter: NSUI Leader Ronak Khatri Whose Degree Was Withheld Over ₹9 Lakh Dues

Meet CJP's Latest Supporter: NSUI Leader Ronak Khatri Whose Degree Was Withheld Over ₹9 Lakh Dues

The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), founded by Abhijeet Dipke, was born out of outrage over remarks attributed to Chief Justice Surya Kant, who reportedly compared unemployed youth pursuing activism and journalism to “cockroaches and parasites”. Since then, CJP has sought to portray itself as a spontaneous, student-led, Gen-Z movement representing ordinary young Indians frustrated by unemployment, examination scandals and governance failures.

However, as more public supporters emerge from the shadows, an irony is becoming increasingly difficult to ignore: many of the faces rallying behind the movement are not politically unaffiliated students at all, but individuals with long-standing connections to political parties, activist networks and organised agitation politics.

The latest figure to throw his weight behind the movement is Ronak Khatri, former Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) president and a prominent leader associated with the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), the student wing of the Congress party.

Ronak Khatri Extends Support To CJP

In a video message released ahead of CJP’s planned protest at Jantar Mantar, Khatri appealed to students and youth across the country to join the movement.

Describing himself as a student rather than a student leader, Khatri accused Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan of failing students and cited issues ranging from examination irregularities to poor infrastructure in government colleges.

He claimed that students across India were facing injustice and argued that the Education Ministry had failed to address recurring controversies involving examinations such as NEET, CBSE, SSC GD, D.El.Ed and Delhi Police recruitment.

Khatri concluded his appeal by expressing full support for the Cockroach Janta Party’s movement and urging people to gather at Jantar Mantar for what he described as a peaceful protest.

Not Just A Student Leader, But A Congress-Linked Leader

While Khatri presented himself as a student speaking for students, his political affiliations are no secret.

Khatri rose to prominence through the NSUI and served as DUSU president with the backing of the Congress-affiliated student organisation. His political identity is therefore deeply rooted within the Congress.

This raises an obvious question: if CJP is truly a non-political, student-led movement, why are established political figures and party-linked leaders becoming some of its most visible supporters?

The growing list of endorsements from individuals with political backgrounds increasingly undermines CJP’s claim of being independent of traditional political ecosystems.

Degree Withheld Over Unpaid Dues

The controversy surrounding Khatri does not end with his political affiliations.

In February 2026, reports emerged that Delhi University had withheld Khatri’s LLB degree and mark sheets over alleged unpaid guest house and catering dues exceeding ₹9 lakh.

According to reports, university authorities cited outstanding payments accumulated during his tenure in student politics. The issue generated considerable controversy at the time, with debates emerging over accountability and financial responsibility within student leadership circles.

Khatri’s endorsement adds yet another politically connected face to a movement that continues to insist it has no political roots. From former party functionaries and political campaigners to activist networks and student leaders with established partisan affiliations, many of the individuals gravitating towards CJP appear far removed from the image of the ordinary student the movement claims to represent.

Ironically, if one were to go by the very analogy that inspired the movement’s name, it is not anonymous students but seasoned political activists, party-linked leaders and professional agitators who seem most eager to embrace the “cockroach” label. As more such figures emerge in support of CJP, the question becomes harder to ignore: is this really a grassroots Gen-Z uprising, or simply old political actors finding a new banner under which to march?

Cockroach Party’s Plan Follows Bangladesh’s Student Protest Blueprint To Trigger Chaos

The emergence of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) and the news surrounding it makes one wonder whether it is a dangerous movement deliberately modeled on the Bangladesh student uprising. A closer look at the verifiable facts reveals a more complicated, and far less sinister, picture.

What CJP Actually Is

The Cockroach Janta Party is not a registered political party. It was created on 16 May 2026, by Abhijeet Dipke, a political communications strategist and Boston University graduate who previously worked with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). The movement was born as an act of direct satire – a response to remarks by Chief Justice Surya Kant, who reportedly compared unemployed youth pursuing journalism and activism to “cockroaches and parasites” in a Supreme Court hearing. Within days of its launch, the CJP’s Instagram account surpassed 20 million followers, eclipsing both the ruling BJP and the opposition Congress.

The CJP’s recent demands seem specific and concrete: accountability for alleged irregularities in national examinations (NEET-UG, CBSE, CUET), and the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. The June 6 protest at Jantar Mantar was announced in their first press conference as a non-political, open public event with no party flags or banners permitted.

Parallels With Bangladesh’s Student Movement

One can compare CJP’s mobilisation strategy to the student-led movement that shook Bangladesh in 2024.

If we take a look at how Dipke reacted to Bangladesh protests, we can get an idea. He called former Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina a ‘wicked PM’.

Abhijeet Dipke’s earlier social media posts reveal a strategy centred on mobilising students around public grievances before escalating pressure through large-scale demonstrations. Instances of student anger seem to be coming out one by one: First it was NEET, then it was CBSE, followed by CUET and so on. Student anger has been stoked and seems to be one of the easiest to target.

He has called for the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

There seem to be similarities between the first press conference held by CJP and media appearances associated with the Bangladesh student movement, and both seem to follow a similar pattern of leadership presentation and narrative-building.

Three Spokespersons and Their Questionable Backgrounds

CJP recently appointed three spokespersons as part of its effort to formalise the movement and build a leadership structure beyond social media activism. The organisation described the move as the beginning of a new political model aimed at younger Indians.

However, the structure resembles activist-led protest movements seen elsewhere and the spokesperson model is intended to create a centralised narrative around the organisation’s campaigns.

The background of these 3 spokespersons is also very questionable. Let’s take a look at each of them.

Saurav Das is a journalist who has reported on legal, judicial, and governance issues. He gained visibility through activism and protest participation and has been associated with narratives supportive of the Aam Aadmi Party. He is also seen pushing propaganda on Arvind Kejriwal. Das is currently facing criminal contempt proceedings before the Delhi High Court over articles and social media posts concerning Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma and the Delhi excise policy case involving AAP leaders.

Ashutosh Ranka is an IIT Kanpur and London School of Economics graduate who previously worked as a management consultant at McKinsey in London. After returning to India, he became active in civic and youth-focused campaigns, particularly on education and environmental issues. Ranka earlier served as a national spokesperson for the Aam Aadmi Party and was known for publicly defending the party and Arvind Kejriwal on major political controversies.

Vijeta Dahiya is a political researcher, author, filmmaker, and poet who graduated from Delhi Technological University. Dahiya is best known as the chief scriptwriter and researcher for YouTuber Dhruv Rathee, playing a significant role in content production and political research. His work has largely focused on governance, public policy, and contemporary political issues.

On the outside, it looks like the trio have some solid portfolios. But as you dig a little, you can see it unravels an AAP connection just like the CJP founder, Dipke.

Protest Permissions Not Taken?

One of the biggest points of contention has been the issue of obtaining prior permission for demonstrations. In the press conference, the spokespersons openly said they did not think it was necessary to take permissions to gather.

Several social media posts and discussions surrounding CJP’s planned June 6 protest suggest that organisers intended to seek permission only after Dipke arrived in Delhi. This amounted to disregard for established procedures governing public protests.

Whether one wants to demostrate peaceful or not, to gather in large numbers requires permission from the state authorities. That procedure seems to not have been followed by these cockroaches.

The issue took a further turn after Dipke announced plans to return to India and lead a protest demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

In the above video, Dipke himself confirms that permission has not been sought atleast till 4 June 2026 for a ‘demonstration’ that they claim is peaceful.

Links to Activist Networks

The participation of activists associated with student organisations such as AISA and SFI has also raised eyebrows.

Veteran campus activists and andolan jeevis have increasingly aligned themselves with the movement – take for example, Sonam Wangchuk, Prakash Raaj etc.

We also have AAP leader’s son Arpit Sharma who was instigating youth in India to do a Nepal-style GenZ protest, joining the CJP.

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Arpit Sharma (@iarpitspeaks)

The entry of experienced protest organisers raises questions about whether CJP is evolving from an online youth campaign into a broader activist coalition.

The Umar Khalid and Sharjeel Imam Connection

If we take a look at the social media history of the members of the CJP, one can see admiration for terror accused and ‘activists’ such as Umar Khalid and Sharjeel Imam.

Such associations reveal the ideological direction of the movement.

Is CJP Seeking Confrontation?

Overall, from all the activities monitored so far, the CJP seems to be deliberately inviting confrontation with authorities.

By organising protests in sensitive locations and challenging procedural requirements, the organisation risks provoking police action which could then be used to generate sympathy and further mobilisation among young supporters. This resembles protest escalation tactics seen in other countries. Add to this the fact that CJP spokespersons said they did not take permission and did not feel the need to do so.

‘Thooya Sakthi’ Joseph Vijay Asked For A Chance: Now Crime Against Women Are Happening Every Day With Several TVK Cadres Themselves Being Culprits

Joseph Vijay's "Safety for Women" Exposed: Mohammed Muttab & Mohammed Atheel From Bihar Gangrape 61-Year-Old Mentally Challenged Homeless Woman In Velachery

Joseph Vijay and his party, the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), came to power pleading for a chance – a chance to offer change. A change from deteriorating law and order, a change from absolute disappearance of women’s safety and what not.

The people gave them a chance, and now when it is time for Vijay to keep up his promises, he is missing in action. The Singappen Special Force that was supposed to be launched days ago, one of the first ‘signatures’ of the new government, is still waiting to be launched. The launch was postponed twice – once to accommodate Vijay’s visit to Delhi to meet PM Modi and the second time was allegedly due to an overlapping ‘private ceremony’ that he had to attend.

As days pass by, we will now see the TVK government complete a month in power. In this article, we document the list of sexual harassment and rape cases that occured in TN during the time TVK was in power. The culprits include TVK’s own cadre – so much for ‘Thooya Sakthi’ and change.

#1 Rape – Pudukottai – May 2026

On 16 May 2026, a 35-year-old speech- and hearing-impaired woman in Pudukottai was allegedly abducted, taken to a cashew farm, and raped by two men, Sekar (56) and Marimuthu (55) – one of whom has been arrested while the other remains at large, prompting a protest from the victim’s relatives demanding the second accused’s arrest and proper compensation.

#2 Rape & Murder – Coimbatore – May 2026

One of the most shocking incidents during the period involved the abduction, sexual assault and murder of a 10-year-old girl in Sulur near Coimbatore on 22 May 2026. Police stated that the child was kidnapped by two men and murdered at a secluded location after being sexually assaulted.

#3 Sexual Harassment – Chennai – May 2026

In a disturbing incident in Chennai’s Athipattu area, on 25 May 2026, a man posing as an electricity meter reader sexually harassed a young girl home alone, robbed her of her silver anklets and gold ring, and fled, but police arrested the accused, Balaji, also known as “Laptop Balaji,” who has over five pending criminal cases, prompting urgent demands for stricter government action against rising sexual offenses targeting children in Tamil Nadu.

#4 Gangrape – Chennai – May 2026

A 61-year-old mentally challenged homeless woman was gangraped in Velachery on 28 May 2026. Police arrested two Bihar guest workers, Mohammed Muttab (26) and Mohammed Atheel (23); a 15-year-old was released. The victim, lured via Rapido to a park, was assaulted; CCTV footage led to arrests.

#5 Sexual Harassment – Tiruvannamalai – May 2026

A complaint was filed against over ten persons for allegedly sexually harassing a woman and robbing her jewellery on the Tiruvannamalai Girivalam route (31 May 2026). The victim was waylaid by youths on two-wheelers, harassed, and partially disrobed. Police have detained seven suspects for interrogation.

#6 Sexual Assault – Thoothukudi – May 2026

Three men were arrested following a sexual assault complaint filed by a woman at the Thoothukudi All Women Police Station on 24 May 2026. The victim alleged that Mohith, a previously known acquaintance, along with two friends, assaulted her.

#7 Sexual Abuse – Chennai – May 2026

A 22-year-old delivery agent, Lokesh of Ayanavaram, was arrested for allegedly sexually abusing a 31-year-old woman at her Aminjikarai residence on 31 May 2026 after following her inside on the pretext of asking for water. Police said the accused harassed her and fled. A complaint led to his arrest using the delivery-linked mobile number. He has been remanded to judicial custody.

#8 Rape – Trichy East – June 2026

A 14-year-old girl was drugged, sexually assaulted, and left unconscious in Trichy East, CM Vijay’s constituency. The accused taxi driver, Mariselvan (43), was caught and beaten by the public. He faces POCSO charges. The victim remains in intensive care.

TVK Cadres Arrested For Sexually Assaulting Women

#1 21 May 2026: Duraippandi, a resident of Pudukkottai, was arrested under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act for sexually harassing an eight-year-old girl.

#2 23 May 2026: Kannan, a resident of the Keelamathur area and an administrator of the TVK, was arrested for sexually harassing a 10th-grade student.

#3 24 May 2026: Muthumani, from the Paravai Power House area, was arrested for sexually harassing a 12th-grade student and committing various sexual offenses against her. Reports indicate that the victim is now seven months pregnant.

#4 2 June 2026: Two TVK functionaries, Balamurugan, the Thoothukudi West District TVK Youth Group organizer, and Jayapal, the Ramanathapuram District TVK administrator have been arrested for their alleged involvement in a gang rape near Thoothukudi. According to police, the victim was lured into a car under the pretext of a job, given a soft drink laced with a sedative, and then assaulted after being drugged in cold air; the Srivaikuntam All-Women Police Station registered a complaint from the victim, conducted an investigation, and arrested the two men based on evidence.

It is noteworthy that Times of India reporter Crime Selvaraj had posted that around 40 crimes against women took place in just 2 weeks of TVK rule.

The first month of TVK’s rule has laid bare a devastating truth: Vijay’s promise of ‘Thooya Sakthi’ has yielded no visible change – just rising crimes, delayed action, and arrested party cadres. From the gangrape of a homeless mentally ill woman to the brutal murder of a 10-year-old girl, Tamil Nadu has witnessed at least six major sexual assault cases in weeks, alongside 40 crimes against women that reportedly took place in the first 15 days. The Singappen Special Force remains stalled. The leader who begged for a chance is now missing in action. Trust without accountability is betrayal. Tamil women are still waiting.

Ignoring Allies, Staying Aloof, Surrounded By A Coterie: Vikatan Report Reveals Reality Of Joseph Vijay’s Working Style

It is about three weeks now since the TVK government assumed office. While the administration has announced several measures that have been projected as reform-oriented including a pledge not to collect party funds, promises of transparency in tenders, full-time telecast of Assembly proceedings, and the closure of 717 TASMAC outlets, the government is reportedly facing a series of political setbacks, as reported in Vikatan.

Leaders from alliance parties have reportedly expressed concerns over what they describe as Chief Minister Vijay’s reluctance to speak up even on issues affecting coalition partners. According to them, this has raised questions about how effectively the alliance can function as a cohesive political front.

Missed Opportunity In The Assembly

According to political observers, the government’s political difficulties began during the very first Assembly session convened for the confidence motion.

During the debate, Opposition Leader and DMK scion Udhayanidhi Stalin launched a sharp attack on the government, questioning its stability and urging it to focus on governance rather than optics.

It is argued that Vijay missed an opportunity to counter the opposition on the Assembly floor itself. Instead of responding during the proceedings, the Chief Minister later posted a lengthy response on social media, questioning why a party rejected by a large section of Tamil Nadu’s electorate was mocking a government elected with the support of 35 percent of voters.

The way Vijay responsed and the platform he chose to respond became the subject of criticism – it was a reaction issued after leaving the Assembly rather than a direct political rebuttal. Owing to this, one can surely say that Vijay lost an early opportunity to politically confront the DMK government in the legislature.

Alliance Partners Express Discontent

Several leaders from TVK’s alliance parties told this Vikatan that the Chief Minister did not appear to function with the mindset of leading a coalition government.

They reportedly pointed to the recent Enforcement Directorate search conducted at the residence of former Kerala Chief Minister and senior CPI(M) leader Pinarayi Vijayan. According to them, no statement condemning the action was issued by Vijay.

They further noted that CPI(M) General Secretary MA Baby, who had participated in protests against the searches, was subsequently arrested by Delhi Police, yet the Chief Minister again remained silent.

Even after CPI(M)’s Central Chennai district secretary Selva publicly called upon Vijay to condemn the ED action, no statement was forthcoming, alliance leaders alleged.

According to them, the issue could have been transformed into a larger political campaign against the BJP-led central government. They argued that Vijay could have united coalition partners and organised protests, thereby countering perceptions that he was being soft towards the BJP. Instead, they claimed, the opportunity was lost, while former Chief Minister MK Stalin successfully positioned himself politically by condemning the searches.

Congress And VCK Also Reportedly Unhappy

Sources also indicated that the Congress party has been displeased with Vijay’s conduct in recent weeks.

According to alliance leaders, Vijay did not attend the swearing-in ceremony of Kerala Chief Minister Satheesan and, despite travelling to Delhi, did not meet Congress leader Rahul Gandhi before returning to Tamil Nadu.

Questions have also reportedly arisen within the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK).

VCK MP Ravikumar, who has served in Parliament for seven years, recently received birthday greetings from Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Party insiders pointed out that Ravikumar had played a key role in facilitating discussions between VCK leader Thol. Thirumavalavan and TVK, helping lay the groundwork for the alliance and contributing to the coalition that eventually brought TVK to power.

Despite this, alliance leaders noted that Vijay had not publicly wished Ravikumar on his birthday.

Similarly, they expressed disappointment that Vijay did not comment on a recent event at Lok Bhavan where Thiruvalluvar was portrayed wearing saffron attire.

According to coalition leaders, Vijay’s silence on issue after issue has begun creating resentment within the alliance. They alleged that BJP leaders have been watching these tensions with interest and attempting to exploit them.

Alliance functionaries further pointed out that while Vijay met coalition leaders during the formation of the government, he has not held similar interactions since assuming office. Several leaders reportedly do not even possess a direct personal contact number for the Chief Minister.

They argued that regular meetings would provide opportunities for political discussions, improve coordination and strengthen the alliance. However, they claimed that such opportunities have not been forthcoming.

Ministers Cite Vijay’s Working Style

A senior minister was quoted saying in Vikatan report that Vijay has little interest in sitting down for extended political discussions and is not particularly enthusiastic even about ministers meeting frequently among themselves.

The minister stated that most political interactions are being handled by Vijay’s advisers John Arokiasamy and Vishnu Reddy. However, he suggested that the advisers may not fully appreciate political realities on the ground.

The minister also claimed that Rajasekar, who prepares many of Vijay’s speeches and statements, was absent during the confidence motion debate. As a result, the government was allegedly unable to respond immediately to Udhayanidhi Stalin’s criticisms. Rajasekar has since reportedly been brought closer into Vijay’s functioning, with the Chief Minister now keeping him by his side.

The minister added that Vijay still needed to evolve politically and sharpen his political instincts.

Calls For Greater Political Engagement

Attributing setbacks to the absence of advisers or speechwriters is insufficient for a party that secured 35% of the vote and formed the government.

With signs of unease emerging within the alliance, they contend that it is Vijay’s responsibility as party leader and Chief Minister to directly address coalition concerns, maintain communication with partners and ensure that political differences do not deepen.

Whether the Chief Minister chooses to engage more actively with alliance partners in the coming weeks could prove crucial to the long-term stability and cohesion of the coalition.

Targeted A Female Staff For Lipstick Then, Snubbing A TVK MLA Now: DMK Chennai Mayor Priya Rajan’s Power-Tripping

DMK Chennai Mayor Priya Rajan has once again found herself at the centre of controversy, after her display of what can be called arrogant and dismissive attitude towards colleagues and staff. She already carries the baggage of a previous controversy involving a Corporation employee, and her latest public spat with TVK MLA MR Pallavi has reignited debate about her conduct in office.

The latest row unfolded during the inauguration of two government school buildings in Chennai’s Thiru Vi Ka Nagar zone. During the opening of a new ₹3.24-crore building for the Chennai Urdu Middle School, Mayor Priya, MLA Pallavi, Corporation officials and senior bureaucrats were present. Pallavi, who had campaigned while pregnant during the election, attended the event carrying her infant child.

According to reports, the first signs of tension emerged during the ribbon-cutting ceremony, where Pallavi was allegedly made to stand behind the Mayor despite being the elected MLA of the constituency. The situation escalated during the ceremonial lamp-lighting when Priya reportedly extended the candle towards Pallavi, only to pull it back when the MLA reached out and instead hand it to a nearby IAS officer.

The move reportedly upset Pallavi, who is said to have left the event shortly afterwards. Priya’s camp later defended the incident by citing protocol, claiming that after the Mayor lights the first wick, the next wick should be lit by the senior IAS officer present. The explanation, however, drew criticism from many who argued that an elected representative should not be publicly sidelined in favour of an appointed bureaucrat.

The controversy intensified during a second inauguration programme later the same day at a Chennai Primary School in Ward 75. This time, when Priya reportedly offered the candle to Pallavi during the lamp-lighting ceremony, the MLA refused to accept it and instead asked the Mayor to light the remaining wick herself. The gesture was widely interpreted as a response to the earlier incident.

The episode has also revived memories of the 2024 “lipstick controversy” involving Greater Chennai Corporation dafadar S.B. Madhavi. Madhavi alleged that she was transferred from the Mayor’s office after refusing to comply with informal instructions regarding her appearance. According to her, Mayor Priya’s office objected to her wearing lipstick and bright-coloured saris while performing official duties.

Madhavi stated that Mayor Priya’s personal assistant, Siva Sankar, instructed her not to wear lipstick because ministers, embassy officials and other dignitaries frequently visited the Mayor’s office. She refused to comply and challenged officials to produce any government order prohibiting such attire. Soon afterwards, she was transferred to the Manali zone.

While the Corporation cited dereliction of duty and disobedience as the reasons for the transfer, Madhavi denied the allegations and maintained that the only instruction she had refused to follow concerned lipstick. She further alleged that she had been repeatedly asked to tone down her appearance and restrict interactions with officials from other departments.

Although Priya denied that the transfer was linked to the lipstick issue, the controversy created an impression of a Mayor’s office preoccupied with controlling appearances and protocol. Combined with the latest Pallavi episode, a pattern has emerged in which Priya appears more focused on asserting authority than fostering cooperation.

For a Mayor who frequently speaks about inclusivity and women’s empowerment, allegations of publicly slighting a fellow woman elected representative and policing the appearance of a female Corporation employee continue to cast a shadow over her public image.

Joseph Vijay Said His ‘Thooya Sakthi’ Party Would Reject ‘Cash For Votes’, His Candidate Reveals ₹2,000 Was Distributed Per Vote In Salem West

Joseph Vijay Said His 'Thooya Sakthi' Party Would Reject 'Cash For Votes', His Candidate Reveals ₹2,000 Was Distributed Per Vote In Salem West

A senior Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) functionary and former Assembly candidate has sparked controversy after claiming that cash was distributed to voters in the neighbouring Salem West constituency during the recent Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, as reported in The Hindu.

R.V. Adhiyamaan, who contested from Omalur on a TVK ticket, made the remarks during a meeting of party functionaries held after the election. A video of his speech has since been widely circulated on social media.

In the video, Adhiyamaan listed what he believed were the reasons for his defeat in Omalur. According to him, the primary factor was the alleged distribution of ₹2,000 per vote by TVK’s Salem West candidate S. Lakshmanan.

Adhiyamaan stated that party workers had spent considerable time campaigning among voters, explaining the party’s policies, highlighting welfare measures and taking the party’s message directly to the people. However, he claimed that all of those efforts were effectively nullified during the final days of campaigning because of cash distribution.

According to Adhiyamaan, the alleged distribution of money in Salem West had a spillover effect in neighbouring Omalur, causing significant political damage to his campaign. He estimated that the development may have cost him anywhere between 5,000 and 10,000 votes.

The remarks have drawn attention because TVK, led by Chief Minister Vijay, had repeatedly positioned itself as a party that would break away from traditional election practices and reject vote-buying politics.

In the viral video, Adhiyamaan appeared to openly acknowledge that cash had been distributed to voters and linked the practice directly to the election outcome.

However, it remains unclear exactly what Adhiyamaan meant by his remarks. It is not known whether he was alleging that voters in Omalur became dissatisfied because they did not receive similar payments, or whether the alleged cash distribution created disappointment among voters who expected TVK to adhere to its stated principles.

Adhiyamaan ultimately lost the Omalur Assembly constituency to AIADMK candidate R. Mani by a margin of 14,539 votes. In contrast, Salem West candidate S. Lakshmanan secured victory with a margin of 74,867 votes.

The comments have fuelled political criticism, with opponents questioning the gap between TVK’s public messaging on electoral reform and the allegations made by one of its own candidates regarding cash distribution during the campaign.

Madras High Court Seeks TVK Govt’s Stand On Thirupparankundram Karthigai Deepam Issue

Madras High Court Seeks TVK Govt's Stand On Thirupparankundram Karthigai Deepam Issue

The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court has sought clarification from the Tamil Nadu government regarding its decision on permitting the lighting of the Karthigai Deepam at the traditional deepam pillar located atop the Thirupparankundram hill.

The observation came during the hearing of appeals challenging orders passed in contempt proceedings related to the implementation of an earlier court direction permitting the lighting of the sacred lamp.

The case originates from a petition filed by Ramar Ravikumar of Madurai, who sought permission to light the Karthigai Deepam at the Deepathoon situated on the hilltop at Thirupparankundram. A single judge had earlier directed the authorities to allow the lighting of the lamp at the site.

Subsequently, contempt petitions were filed alleging that the authorities had failed to take adequate steps to implement the court’s order. Various directions were issued in those contempt proceedings, which were later challenged through appeals.

A division bench comprising Justices Satish Kumar and Jothiraman heard the appeals on Thursday, 4 June 2026. During the proceedings, the judges questioned the government’s position on the issue and asked why efforts could not be made to implement the court’s order.

The bench observed that the contempt proceedings could be dealt with separately and suggested that authorities should explore ways to comply with the original order. The judges remarked that India is a democratic country and emphasized that public sentiments should be respected.

Questioning the hurdles in implementing the order, the bench asked what difficulties prevented the authorities from allowing the lighting of the Karthigai Deepam at the designated location.

Representing the government, counsel submitted that consultations with senior officials were required before a final position could be communicated to the court.

Meanwhile, a plea filed by representatives of the dargah seeking to implead themselves in the proceedings was also brought to the court’s attention.

Appearing for the petitioner, advocate Arun Swaminathan expressed confidence that the present government would ultimately comply with the court’s directions.

After hearing the submissions, the bench directed the Tamil Nadu government to inform the court of its decision regarding the implementation of the order permitting the lighting of the Karthigai Deepam at Thirupparankundram hill.

The matter has been adjourned to 22 June 2026 for further hearing.
