TVK came to power promising safety for women and children in Tamil Nadu. But barely days after Joseph Vijay becoming the Chief Minister, there are multiple instances of assaults and murder especially targeting women and children in Tamil Nadu.

In a disturbing series of events, the Madurai district has witnessed a sharp rise in sexual crimes against minors, with three separate cases registered in just five days within the Madurai West constituency. The latest incident involves the arrest of a man accused of sexually assaulting a 12th-grade student, who is now reportedly seven months pregnant.

The accused has been identified as Muthumani, a resident of the Power House area near Paravai in Madurai district. He was arrested today for subjecting a 12th-grade student from the same locality to continuous sexual harassment. The victim’s mother filed a complaint regarding the incident. Following a medical examination at a government hospital, it was revealed that the victim is seven months pregnant. In response, the mother lodged a formal complaint at the Samayanallur All-Women Police Station, requesting that a case be registered. Based on this complaint, a case was filed, and the accused has been taken into custody.

This case is the third such incident reported in the Madurai West constituency within a span of just five days, causing significant shock and outrage among local residents. Cases have now been filed involving victims ranging from an eight-year-old girl to school students and a Plus-2 student.

According to details provided by police sources, the three cases are as follows:

21 May 2026: Duraippandi, a resident of Pudukkottai, was arrested under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act for sexually harassing an eight-year-old girl.

23 May 2026: Kannan, a resident of the Keelamathur area and an administrator of the TVK, was arrested for sexually harassing a 10th-grade student.

24 May 2026: Muthumani, from the Paravai Power House area, was arrested for sexually harassing a 12th-grade student and committing various sexual offenses against her. Reports indicate that the victim is now seven months pregnant.

All three cases were registered based on complaints filed by victims’ mothers and relatives at the Samayanallur Police Station and the Samayanallur All-Women Police Station. The Samayanallur All-Women Police have made the arrests and are currently taking further legal action.

The alarming increase in crimes committed against school students and young girls has raised particular concern across the district. In this context, local residents, affected parents, social activists, and an individual named Prakash have appealed to the District Administration and the Police Department to ensure that severe punishments are handed down to those involved in such crimes. They have also called upon the Tamil Nadu government, specifically Chief Minister Joseph Vijay, who has pledged to protect young girls, to ensure that these criminals face strict legal consequences.
