Son Of Former DMK MLA Arrested For Allegedly Demanding ₹20 Lakh From Chennai Builder

The Tiruvottiyur police have arrested Manikandan, son of late former DMK MLA T.C. Vijayan, on charges of allegedly threatening a real estate developer and demanding ₹20 lakh to allow the construction of an apartment project in north Chennai to continue without interference, as reported in DT Next.

Manikandan’s mother is a sitting Greater Chennai Corporation ward councillor, and he currently serves as the DMK ward secretary for Ward 8.

According to the police, a private real estate company was constructing an apartment complex near Masthan Kovil Street in Tiruvottiyur after obtaining the necessary approvals from the Greater Chennai Corporation.

Investigators alleged that Manikandan, accompanied by a group of associates, repeatedly visited the construction site and intimidated workers. During these visits, he allegedly demanded ₹20 lakh from the developer and warned that the project would be allowed to proceed without obstruction only if the payment was made.

Following the alleged threats, Madhavan Rajan, a manager with the construction firm, lodged a complaint with the Tiruvottiyur police.

Based on the complaint, the police registered a case against Manikandan and arrested him. He was subsequently produced before a court, which remanded him to judicial custody.

Police are continuing their investigation into the case.
