Actor Prakash Raj rushed to the defence of arrested social media influencer “Prashna” Raavan, whose real name is Bachalakuri Joseph, accusing the Andhra Pradesh government of silencing a “questioning voice” through police action and in the process suffers a meltdown.
However, what Prakash Raj’s post conspicuously leaves out is the reason behind the police action.
The controversy began at a Dalit Christian convention called Dalit Christian ‘War Cry’ meeting in Andhra Pradesh, where the stage, instead of remaining focused on issues affecting the community, turned into a platform for political attacks against the NDA government in the state. During the event, Prashna Raavan reportedly made a series of derogatory remarks against Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan while also targeting Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and other coalition leaders.
In his address, Raavan aggressively targeted Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan regarding local administration and socio-religious issues. He claimed that the current coalition state government was allowing systematic caste discrimination against underprivileged students to happen under its watch. He explicitly stated that “a government that allegedly allows caste discrimination against school kids will be brought down.”
The speeches have since drawn criticism for using abusive language rather than political criticism, with several observers questioning why a convention organised in the name of Dalit Christian issues was used to launch personal attacks against political opponents.
Following complaints over the remarks, Andhra Pradesh Police arrested him.
Soon after, Prakash Raj took to X to condemn the arrest. Calling Raavan a “questioning voice”, the actor accused the Andhra Pradesh government of misusing its authority to silence dissent.
He claimed court granted bail and refused to allow arrest of Raavan. Prakash Raj suffered a meltdown over police action. He released video after video exposing his frustration.

Prakash Raj’s post made no mention of the remarks that led to Prashna Ravana’s arrest. Instead, he framed the episode entirely as an attack on free speech, accusing the Andhra Pradesh government of suppressing dissent.
The central question, however, is not whether governments should be questioned. It is whether abusive and derogatory remarks directed at elected representatives can be repackaged as “dissent” once legal action follows. By ignoring the contents of Ravana’s speech altogether, Prakash Raj reduced the entire controversy to a free speech narrative while sidestepping the conduct that triggered the police case.
Prakash Raj has repeatedly rushed to portray police action against individuals critical of governments he opposes as an assault on democracy, while rarely displaying the same urgency in comparable cases involving those on the other side of the political spectrum. That selectivity has once again been exposed following his defence of Prashna Ravana.
