
A 30-year-old man was arrested by the Cumbum North Police after he threw a book bearing an image of a Hindu deity onto the ground, trampled on it and uploaded a video of the act on social media.
The accused, identified as Afsar, is the son of Mohammed Rafiq and a resident of Thathappan Kulam in Cumbum.
According to police, the incident occurred two days before the arrest. Afsar allegedly dropped a book carrying the image of a Hindu deity onto the ground, repeatedly stamped on it and recorded the act on video before sharing it online.

The video came to the attention of Lakshmanan, an administrator of the Cumbum Gowmariamman Temple Seva Trust, who subsequently lodged a complaint with the police.
Based on the complaint, the Cumbum North Police registered a case against Afsar and initiated an investigation.
During the course of the inquiry, police arrested the accused.
The investigation also revealed that Afsar holds an MBBS degree, although he is not currently practising medicine.
