‘Thooya Sakthi’ Joseph Vijay Asked For A Chance: Now Crime Against Women Are Happening Every Day With Several TVK Cadres Themselves Being Culprits

Joseph Vijay's "Safety for Women" Exposed: Mohammed Muttab & Mohammed Atheel From Bihar Gangrape 61-Year-Old Mentally Challenged Homeless Woman In Velachery

Joseph Vijay and his party, the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), came to power pleading for a chance – a chance to offer change. A change from deteriorating law and order, a change from absolute disappearance of women’s safety and what not.

The people gave them a chance, and now when it is time for Vijay to keep up his promises, he is missing in action. The Singappen Special Force that was supposed to be launched days ago, one of the first ‘signatures’ of the new government, is still waiting to be launched. The launch was postponed twice – once to accommodate Vijay’s visit to Delhi to meet PM Modi and the second time was allegedly due to an overlapping ‘private ceremony’ that he had to attend.

As days pass by, we will now see the TVK government complete a month in power. In this article, we document the list of sexual harassment and rape cases that occured in TN during the time TVK was in power. The culprits include TVK’s own cadre – so much for ‘Thooya Sakthi’ and change.

#1 Rape – Pudukottai – May 2026

On 16 May 2026, a 35-year-old speech- and hearing-impaired woman in Pudukottai was allegedly abducted, taken to a cashew farm, and raped by two men, Sekar (56) and Marimuthu (55) – one of whom has been arrested while the other remains at large, prompting a protest from the victim’s relatives demanding the second accused’s arrest and proper compensation.

#2 Rape & Murder – Coimbatore – May 2026

One of the most shocking incidents during the period involved the abduction, sexual assault and murder of a 10-year-old girl in Sulur near Coimbatore on 22 May 2026. Police stated that the child was kidnapped by two men and murdered at a secluded location after being sexually assaulted.

#3 Sexual Harassment – Chennai – May 2026

In a disturbing incident in Chennai’s Athipattu area, on 25 May 2026, a man posing as an electricity meter reader sexually harassed a young girl home alone, robbed her of her silver anklets and gold ring, and fled, but police arrested the accused, Balaji, also known as “Laptop Balaji,” who has over five pending criminal cases, prompting urgent demands for stricter government action against rising sexual offenses targeting children in Tamil Nadu.

#4 Gangrape – Chennai – May 2026

A 61-year-old mentally challenged homeless woman was gangraped in Velachery on 28 May 2026. Police arrested two Bihar guest workers, Mohammed Muttab (26) and Mohammed Atheel (23); a 15-year-old was released. The victim, lured via Rapido to a park, was assaulted; CCTV footage led to arrests.

#5 Sexual Harassment – Tiruvannamalai – May 2026

A complaint was filed against over ten persons for allegedly sexually harassing a woman and robbing her jewellery on the Tiruvannamalai Girivalam route (31 May 2026). The victim was waylaid by youths on two-wheelers, harassed, and partially disrobed. Police have detained seven suspects for interrogation.

#6 Sexual Assault – Thoothukudi – May 2026

Three men were arrested following a sexual assault complaint filed by a woman at the Thoothukudi All Women Police Station on 24 May 2026. The victim alleged that Mohith, a previously known acquaintance, along with two friends, assaulted her.

#7 Sexual Abuse – Chennai – May 2026

A 22-year-old delivery agent, Lokesh of Ayanavaram, was arrested for allegedly sexually abusing a 31-year-old woman at her Aminjikarai residence on 31 May 2026 after following her inside on the pretext of asking for water. Police said the accused harassed her and fled. A complaint led to his arrest using the delivery-linked mobile number. He has been remanded to judicial custody.

TVK Cadres Arrested For Sexually Assaulting Women

#1 21 May 2026: Duraippandi, a resident of Pudukkottai, was arrested under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act for sexually harassing an eight-year-old girl.

#2 23 May 2026: Kannan, a resident of the Keelamathur area and an administrator of the TVK, was arrested for sexually harassing a 10th-grade student.

#3 24 May 2026: Muthumani, from the Paravai Power House area, was arrested for sexually harassing a 12th-grade student and committing various sexual offenses against her. Reports indicate that the victim is now seven months pregnant.

#4 2 June 2026: Two TVK functionaries, Balamurugan, the Thoothukudi West District TVK Youth Group organizer, and Jayapal, the Ramanathapuram District TVK administrator have been arrested for their alleged involvement in a gang rape near Thoothukudi. According to police, the victim was lured into a car under the pretext of a job, given a soft drink laced with a sedative, and then assaulted after being drugged in cold air; the Srivaikuntam All-Women Police Station registered a complaint from the victim, conducted an investigation, and arrested the two men based on evidence.

It is noteworthy that Times of India reporter Crime Selvaraj had posted that around 40 crimes against women took place in just 2 weeks of TVK rule.

The first month of TVK’s rule has laid bare a devastating truth: Vijay’s promise of ‘Thooya Sakthi’ has yielded no visible change – just rising crimes, delayed action, and arrested party cadres. From the gangrape of a homeless mentally ill woman to the brutal murder of a 10-year-old girl, Tamil Nadu has witnessed at least six major sexual assault cases in weeks, alongside 40 crimes against women that reportedly took place in the first 15 days. The Singappen Special Force remains stalled. The leader who begged for a chance is now missing in action. Trust without accountability is betrayal. Tamil women are still waiting.
