Several Instagram accounts with Tamil-language content and Japanese-inspired usernames have been circulating posts that mock Hindu deities, obscene depictions of religious figures, and sexually explicit references to Hindu religious narratives.
Accounts including kutty_kakashe, pun_dank_maval and the_ichiraku_podcast feature content that uses vulgar Tamil slang, sexual innuendo and memes targeting Hindu beliefs and religious figures.
One post shared by the account kutty_kakashe uses a fake television news graphic to depict Lord Krishna as having been arrested for stalking women and stealing their clothes while they bathed. The graphic includes a fictional victim’s statement calling him a “pervert and habitual offender”.
The accompanying content features vulgar Tamil dialogue, turning a religious narrative into an obscene meme.
Another post from pun_dank_maval contains sexually explicit Tamil insults in dialogue bubbles. The captions include abusive language.
In another post, the account kutty_kakashe shared an obscene depiction of Goddess Parvati creating Lord Ganesha, accompanied by text containing vulgar references to Hindu religious identity. The post also uses derogatory language targeting Hindus.
The accounts have also circulated memes targeting the Ramayana. One post juxtaposes how husbands treat their wives after years of separation with how Lord Rama allegedly treated Sita after their 14-year separation. The accompanying dialogue uses vulgar language to mock Rama and the Ayodhya.
The posts use familiar Instagram meme formats, dialogue bubbles, music overlays and engagement-driven captions to circulate their content. Some display hundreds of likes, comments, shares or bookmarks, indicating that they have attracted engagement on the platform.
