UP govt demolishes property belonging to gangster Mukhtar Ansari in Lucknow

In a blow to dreaded gangster Mukhtar Ansari, civil authorities in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh pulled down one illegal construction belonging to the gangster-turned-politician on Saturday. As per authorities, the top floor of the Rani Sultanat Plaza in Hazratganj in Lucknow was constructed illegally.

Related to former Vice President Mohammad Hamid Ansari, Mukhtar Ansari was the prime accused in the murder of BJP leader Krishnanand Rai.

Ansari is right now safely ensconced in a jail in Punjab, enjoying the patronage of the Punjab state government. He faces multiple charges of murder, kidnapping, dacoity and arson.

Ansari’s base of operation was Ghazipur in western Uttar Pradesh. Multiple attempts by the Yogi government to have him brought to Uttar Pradesh have failed, as the Congress government in Punjab, led by Chief Minister Amarinder Singh, has halted Ansari’s transfer to a jail in Uttar Pradesh. Ansari has even alleged that if he were to be transferred to Uttar Pradesh, he would be killed in a ‘state-sponsored encounter”.

As the Uttar Pradesh administration tightens its hold on other associates of Ansari, two sharp-shooters who worked for the Ansari gang were killed recently in a police encounter in Lucknow.

For years, the Ansari family enjoyed the political patronage of the Samajwadi Party and the Bahujan Samaj Party, allowing Mukhtar Ansari and his associates to act without fear and impunity.
