Former UP crime boss Mukhtar Ansari claims he is related to ex-VP Hamid Ansari

The notorious Uttar Pradesh gangster Mukhtar Ansari ― who is currently lodged in a prison in Punjab ― has filed a petition in the Supreme Court alleging a plot to kill him in a “state-sponsored encounter”.

Ansari in his petition has claimed that he belongs to a family which has produced leaders like former Vice President Hamid Ansari, Hindustan Times has reported.

Mukhtar Ansari is the grandson of Mukhtar Ahmed Ansari, an early president of the Indian National Congress and one of the founders of the Jamia Millia Islamia University.

Ansari has been fighting to make sure he is not sent to a jail in Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh. The Uttar Pradesh government is trying to bring him back to the state from a prison in Punjab.

In the petition, Ansari said that he is “part of a family that has made an immense contribution to the Indian freedom movement and has given India many leaders in the form of Shri Muhammad Hamid Ansari who was the vice president of India, Shri Shaukatullah Ansari who served as the governor of Odisha, Justice Asif Ansari who was the judge of the Allahabad high court, and his own father Subhanullah Ansari who was a freedom fighter and social worker”.

Ansari for a long time has alleged that the Uttar Pradesh government is seeking his personal custody in order to kill him. The Yogi Adityanath government has taken several tough measures against Mukhtar Ansari and his supporters and have even demolished his illegal properties.

Former Vice President Hamid Ansari has been in the news for all the wrong news recently due to a recent interview with Zee TV, where he said that Muslims in India are living in fear. However, when he was probed further and asked to give a reason, he could not. The former VP has publicly embraced hardline Islamic ideas far too often in the past, going as far as to support the establishment of Sharia courts in the country.
