Kerala Temple Desecration: ‘ISIS’ Written On Sacred Murti Two Nights In A Row

The word “ISIS” was allegedly found written on a Brahmarakshas murti at the Mohanapuram Mahadeva Venugopala Swami Temple in Pothencode, Thiruvananthapuram district, Kerala, on two consecutive nights, October 23 and 24, 2026.

As reported in HinduPost & Organiser, the temple priest discovered the inscription on the pedestal of the murti on the morning of October 23 and lodged a complaint with the Pothencode Police. The alleged act was repeated the following night and discovered on October 25, prompting another complaint.

Police and forensic experts visited the temple to collect evidence, but rainfall reportedly hampered the forensic examination. No arrests had been reported as of October 26.

The incident has triggered outrage among devotees and Hindu organisations, who have demanded a thorough investigation and swift action against those responsible.

K.P. Sasikala Teacher, chief patron of Hindu Aikyavedi, condemned the alleged desecration. Adv. Anil Vilayil, state general secretary of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), also condemned the incident, describing it as an attempt to hurt Hindu sentiments and create communal tension.

Local devotees are reportedly planning prayer gatherings and Japa Yathras to demand action and better security for the temple.
