Aavin Hikes Prices Of Ghee, Butter, Sweets And Other Products Ahead Of Deepavali Under Vijay Government

Aavin Hikes Prices Of Ghee, Butter, Sweets And Other Products Ahead Of Deepavali Under Vijay Government

Ahead of Diwali, Aavin, Tamil Nadu’s state-owned dairy cooperative, has announced a price hike on several milk products, including ghee, butter, curd, milk-based sweets, lassi and cookies. The revised prices will come into effect on Wednesday, 28 October 2026, as reported in LiveMint.

This is the first price hike announced by Aavin under Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay’s TVK-led government.

In an official statement, Aavin said the prices had been revised due to rising raw material and milk procurement costs, along with other associated expenses.

Among the products affected, the price of a 100-ml pack of Aavin ghee has increased from ₹80 to ₹95. The 200-ml pack will now cost ₹180, up from ₹160.

The price of a 100-gram pack of butter has also been raised from ₹60 to ₹70.

Prices of other products, including curd, milk-based sweets, lassi and cookies, have also been revised.

Aavin Milk Procurement Prices Raised Twice

The price hike on Aavin products comes after the Vijay government announced increases in milk procurement prices earlier this year, aimed at providing relief to dairy farmers facing rising cattle feed and maintenance costs.

On August 19, the government announced in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly that the milk procurement price would be increased from ₹38 to ₹41 per litre.

Subsequently, on August 31, Chief Minister Vijay announced a further increase, raising the procurement price from ₹41 to ₹44 per litre.

The government said the increase was intended to support dairy farmers amid rising operational expenses. According to the announcement, the additional increase would cost the state government ₹60 crore per month, amounting to an annual expenditure of ₹720 crore.

The latest revision of Aavin’s retail prices comes amid these increases in procurement costs, with the cooperative citing higher input expenses as the reason for raising the prices of its milk-based products.
