A functionary of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) was arrested on Thursday, 29 October 2026, for allegedly sexually assaulting a college student after offering her a lift home in Tamil Nadu’s Kanyakumari district, as reported in Times of India.
The accused, Christopher, is a member of TVK’s central district executive committee and hails from Marundhukottai near Thuckalay. He had allegedly been absconding since a case was registered against him.
According to police, the complainant is a second-year college student from Kulasekaram who studies at a private college in Nagercoil. She regularly travelled with another student from Moolachal, who is also a TVK member.
On the day of the incident, the two students were waiting for a bus after college when it began raining. Christopher, who knew the other student, stopped his car and offered to drop them home, saying he was heading in the same direction.
After dropping the other student at Moolachal, Christopher continued towards Kulasekaram with the complainant, assuring her that he would drop her near her home.
The student alleged that Christopher stopped the vehicle along the way and sexually assaulted her. She confronted him and attempted to get out of the car to escape, according to police sources. He later dropped her near her residence and fled.
After reaching home, the student informed her parents and subsequently told her college friend about the incident. The two then approached Thuckalay police station and lodged a complaint.
