The India-Bangladesh Exchange Of Enclaves

There was also a weird case of partition that happened between East Pakistan (now Bangladesh) and India in the Cooch Behar region (Siliguri). Both countries had enclaves in each other’s territories. Not one but 198 such enclaves were submerged entirely in another nation’s territory and inhabited by 51,549 people. 37,334 lived in Indian enclaves within Bangladesh, while 14,215 lived in Bangladeshi enclaves within India. Bangladesh had 102 Indian enclaves, which in turn had 21 Bangladeshi counter-enclaves, while India had 71 Bangladeshi enclaves, which, in turn, had three Indian counter-enclaves.

In Bengali, these enclaves were called chitmohol or chitts, representing a chit of paper. Origins of these chitts go back to gambling or chess matches between Raja of Cooch Behar and Maharaja of Rangpur. Whenever they lost, they traded each other’s properties just by signing on a chit of paper and thus ended up creating such enclaves in each other’s territory. Thus, the word ‘Chitmohol’ came into practice, signifying the houses built on a chit of paper. It happened way back in the Mughal period but continued under the British.

To be fair to the British, this is not a unique case in the world. Europe is full of such enclaves; Spain has many French enclaves and the Netherlands in Belgian territory, but they are not enemies. The situation between East Pakistan and India, however, was quite different.

Such enclaves became the den of criminals, smugglers and terrorists who used such territory to launch unlawful activities in India. On top of this absurdity, there is a third-order enclave named Dahala Khagrabari, which is, in effect, a counter-counter enclave with an area of only 1.7 acres, unique in the world. Only one person was occupying the enclave. From here, an Indian citizen wanting to go to the Indian mainland, which is just six miles away, has to cross the borders four times—from India to Bangladesh, Bangladesh to India, India to Bangladesh and finally, Bangladesh to the Indian ‘mainland’. However, this madness was put to an end in 2015 when the enclaves were exchanged, causing India a net loss of 15 square miles of land. Dahala Khagrabari finally went to Bangladesh.

The absurdities of man-made constructs were not appreciated by nature at all. The weirdest victims of partition were the inhabitants of Chars, the mid-river islands in the River Brahmaputra, and they numbered up to a whopping 2.5 lakhs. Life in the char depends on nature’s vagaries; during the monsoon, the islands are regularly submerged in the river. After every monsoon, their position shifts forward and backward across the international riverine border. Thus, Indian citizens of Assam frequently find themselves in Bangladesh and vice versa. The problem remains unsolved unlike that of enclaves, and the islands have become a den of Islamic terrorists. In contrast, just a hundred kilometres away, the border with Hindu-majority Nepal remains open and peaceful even without any patrolling.

TN Governor RN Ravi: “British Incorrectly Referred Dravidian As Race”

rn ravi

Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi has said that it is incorrect to use the term “Dravidian Race,” which was coined by the British, even after their rule.

On the occasion of Tribal Pride Day, Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi presented floral tributes to the portrait of tribal leader Birsa Munda at the Governor’s House in Chennai.

During the celebrations, he said to the students, “The British were incorrect in referring to Dravidam as a race. The Pancha Dravidian region lies south of the Vindhya Hills, while the Pancha Aryan region lies north. People from the north are moving south, and people from the south are moving north.”

He also stated that it is incorrect to follow what the British referred to as the Dravidian race even after the British era. Continuing, he said, “The British government has made an artificial classification among the tribal people. The differences between the tribal people must be broken down.”

“The central government and the state government provide two types of reservation for the tribal people. As far as the state is concerned the reservation is given according to the census. Tamil Nadu has 8 lakh tribals out of a population of 8 crores. The state government provides 1% reservation for them. It is less, and it should be taken into account by the state government,” he added.

“Separate Tamil Country Should Be The Aim Of Tamil Nationalism,” VCK Lok Sabha MP Thiruma Instigates Separatism

Thirumavalavan, Chief of the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) who is also a Lok Sabha MP has fomented separatism by stating that a separate Tamil country should be the ultimate goal of Tamil nationalism ideology in Tamil Nadu.

The book release ceremony for ‘Thirumavin Sinthanai Kotpaadugal,’ written by J. Bharat, an Ambedkar Law College student, was held at the VCK head office in Chennai. Thirumavalavan participated in the event, released the book, and delivered a special address to the VCK cadres.

At the book launch event, many students from Ambedkar Law College joined the VCK party. In his speech, the VCK chief stated, “It has now become a situation that politics is for power, position and material gain. Very few are attracted because of political ideologies. Though they are less in number, they occupy the top post in all parties.”

“Dominance, oppression and exploitation are the enemies of the working people. These can take many forms, including caste, capitalism, feudalism, and family. “Adanga Maru, Aththu Meeru, Thiruppi Adi (do not succumb, violate the rules, hit back)” is not a slogan of violence. It is a slogan against violence. It is the slogan of all the oppressed in the world,” he added.

He concluded by saying, “VCK made a significant contribution to Tamil national movements. It has made possible what the major political parties could not. The ultimate goal of Tamil nationalism should be the establishment of a seperate country known as Tamil Nadu. Every state in India should develop nationalism through language, and the central government should serve as its union. Instead of a union of states, it should be a union of nationalities.”

The Hindu Munnani has called for arresting the Lok Sabha MP for his seditious remarks.

DMK Town Panchayat President Removes BJP And VHP Flagpole In Coimbatore, Attacks Police

The video of the DMK Town Panchayat President assaulting police officer who was recording their atrocities of removing the BJP and VHP flagpoles went viral on social media.

Vishwa Prakash, the Town Panchayat President in Periyanayakanpalayam, is also the DMK Town Secretary in Coimbatore. On September 20, he and his gang demolished the BJP and Vishwa Hindu Parishad flagpoles in Kasturipalayam, which falls under the jurisdiction of Periyanayakanpalayam municipality. He threatened to kill those who tried to intervene and assaulted the police officer who was recording their atrocities.

The Periyanayakanpalayam police have charged Vishwa Prakash and his supporters with various offenses, including death threats to a police officer. However, fearing arrest by the Coimbatore police, Vishwa Prakash obtained anticipatory bail in the case.

The BJP has demanded that Town Panchayat President Vishwa Prakash be arrested immediately for attempting to attack police officers. Coimbatore North District BJP leader Sangeeta said, “DMK has set a wrong precedent by attacking a police officer on duty who is responsible for providing protection to the public. Vishwaprakash, the municipal president who tried to attack, should be arrested immediately. If not, we will consult with the state leadership and hold a protest soon.”

Andhra HC Orders Cancellation Of SC Certificate of Practising Christian Zilla Parishad Chairperson In Guntur

The Andhra Pradesh High Court has ordered the Guntur Collector to cancel the Scheduled Caste (SC) certificate of the chairperson of the Guntur Zilla Parishad, who was elected to the position reserved for Scheduled Castes in September 2021.

In September 2021, Heni Christina of Jagan Mohan Reddy’s YSRCP was unanimously elected as the chairperson of Guntur’s Zilla Parishad. She won by a margin of 17500 votes from a constituency reserved for the scheduled caste candidates.

According to The Hindu, she stated,“We are forever grateful to Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, who had fulfilled his promise of elevating a Dalit woman to the coveted post. We assure that we will live up our leader’s expectation and ensure that welfare schemes are taken to the doorstep of the people”.

Christina is the wife of Christian pastor Bishop K Suresh Kumar who runs the Christian missionary organization Harvest India.

Mandru Sarla Kumari, a Guntur native and SC Hindu, filed complaints with the district administration about bishop Suresh Kathera and his wife Heni Christina’s conversion activities.

She alleged that Christian Bishop Kattera Suresh Kumar is holding a Scheduled Caste certificate to avail reservation benefits despite being a Christian Bishop, maintaining a big church, running several Bible colleges and awarding Christian theology degree through a large evangelical organization namely Harvest India.

She had presented plenty of evidence to show that the pastor and his family are Christians but use SC Hindu certificates to illegally obtain government benefits.

Regardless of the evidence, the collector declared Kathera and his family to be SC Hindus, despite the fact that they run 10 bible colleges and a church called King’s Temple.

The Legal Rights Protection Forum, an organization working for the rights of Dalits and tribal communities, filed a petition at the Andhra Pradesh High Court in September 2021, challenging Heni Christina’s candidacy from the reserved ZP constituency Guntur.

As per the Constitutional (Scheduled Castes) Order of the President 1950, a person ceases to be a member of the Scheduled Caste community if he/she professes a religion other than Hinduism, Sikhism or Buddhism.

Recently, in the case filed by LRPF, the Andhra Pradesh High Court recognized Mr. Kathera Suresh Kumar, President of Harvest India, and his wife Heni Christina, Guntur ZP Chairperson as Christians, not Hindu SCs, and ordered the District Collector to cancel their SC Caste Certificates.

LRPF had previously unearthed FCRA violations at Bishop Kathera’s missionary organization, Harvest India, and lodged a complaint with the Ministry of Home Affairs. Bishop Kathera had told his foreign audience, “Pastors are being killed. Churches are being burned. Our Prime Minister is a bad guy. He doesn’t want Christians in India.” Kathera and his wife are both YSRCP members.

Hypocrisy Of TNM: Secularises Aftab Butchering Shraddha Incident, Had Communalised Petty College Fight

The News Minute, a leftist-cum-Dravidian Stockist portal has given a secular spin to the horrendous crime where a man named Aftab Ameen Poonawalla slaughtered his live-in partner into 35 pieces.

Aftab strangled the 26-year-old Sharddha Walkar on 18 May 2022, following a heated argument as she had asked him to marry her. He then dismembered her body with a sharp weapon into 35 pieces and bought a fridge to store them. He then threw the butchered body parts at 18 different locations in Delhi over the next 18 days. To avoid being caught, he reportedly left the house in the wee hours carrying 1-2 body parts in a plastic bag and threw them in the forest.

In a statement, the Delhi Police on 14 November 2022 said that the Mehrauli Police has solved the six-month-old case and arrested Aftab.

The news of this incident has sent shockwaves across the nation. However, a few leftist media outlets have been trying to secularize the incident to hide the identity of the perpetrator.

Earlier, the Times of India which had initially publised a report with the title “Delhi’s interfaith love: Shraddha’s body cut into piece by Aftab“ subsequently changed it to “Man chops live-in partner into 35 pieces, dumps them in Delhi forest“.

Leftist portal The News Minute hid the name of the perpetrator in a bid to secularize the incident.

The portal’s Editor-in-Chief Dhanya Rajendran sharing an Indian Express article titled “A toxic and abusive relationship that ended in death” wrote on her Twitter “Shraddha continued their relationship as Aaftab emotionally blackmailed her and said he would die by suicide if she leaves him. The level of entitlement such men have”.

That being said, the leftist portal tried to fan communal flames by amplifying a petty college fight that happened at a nondescript town in Dakshin Kannada district.

The headline of this article read “Dakshina Kannada: Muslim man beaten up for speaking to Hindu woman classmate“.

In The News Minute article, it was alleged that one Mohammed Saneef was allegedly beaten up for talking to and befriending a Hindu classmate. The article did not bring in the angle of stalking or harassment. The police had mentioned it as a “love-related case”. On the other hand, TNM tried its best to link the students who had beaten Sanaf with a Hindu rights organization.

“An investigation is underway,” Dakshina Kannada SP Rishikesh Sonawane told TNM, adding that the accused do not belong to any organisation as such, the TNM article noted.

sterlite vedanta madras high court copper

The people injured by police shooting on the 100th day of protest demanding the closure of the Sterlite copper plant in 2018 have now submitted a petition to the District Collector’s office asking for reopening of the plant.

On May 22, 2018, police opened fire during a protest against the Sterlite plant in Thoothukudi, killing 13 civilians and injuring many more. In response to the shocking incident, the then-Edappadi Palaniswami government sealed the Sterlite plant.

Ever since the incident, some residents near the plant have wanted the Sterlite plant to reopen, while others want it to remain closed indefinitely. Both groups have been submitting petitions to the Collector’s office. In this scenario, people who were seriously injured in the shooting, villagers near the plant, and fishermen came to the district collector’s office today to file a petition to reopen the Sterlite plant.

Thangam, who was seriously injured in the firing, told the media,” 16 people who were seriously injured in the firing had come to petition the district collector’s office to open the plant. But we were denied entry into the Collector’s office. We are paralyzed with no job opportunities due to the closure of the plant for 4 years. Despite repeated appeals, no help was provided. No action was taken. The factory has said that it will provide job opportunities if the factory is opened. Therefore, the Sterlite plant should be reopened.”

17-Yr-Old Footballer Priya Dies After Botched Surgery At Chennai’s Periyar Nagar Govt Hospital

Priya R, a 17-year-old football player who underwent surgery to treat a ligament tear in her knee, died on Tuesday morning as a result of multiple organ failure caused by medical negligence.

Priya, daughter of Ravikumar from Vyasarpadi, Chennai, has been playing football since childhood. She comes from a poor family and is pursuing her degree at Ranimary College in Chennai. She has competed in district and state level football competitions.

Priya’s right leg had a muscle strain recently during football practise. Due to the immense pain, an examination was performed, and it was found that Priya had a ligament tear. Following this, on November 7th, an operation was performed at Perambur Periyar Nagar Government Suburban Hospital. Even after the operation, the pain persisted and the foot swelled. Priya was then transferred to Rajiv Gandhi Government Hospital for further treatment, where she was receiving intensive care.

On examination, it was revealed that the blood flow to her right leg was obstructed because of the tightly bound band by doctors after the ligament surgery. The doctors at Rajiv Gandhi Hospital advised that the leg be amputated because all of the muscles in the leg were rotting. Priya’s parents agreed to have her legs amputated to save her life. Following amputation, she was treated in the intensive care unit by a medical team that included a vascular specialist and an orthopaedic surgeon.

However, Priya died tragically on Tuesday morning at the Rajiv Gandhi Government Hospital in Chennai, after her health deteriorated due to multiple organ failure. 2 doctors from orthopedics department have already been suspended for medical negligence.

Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu state BJP chief Annamalai tweeted, “I’m shocked to know footballer Priya died during wrong treatment. I express my condolences to the family. Every department is destroyed in this DMK regime. It is disappointing that the medical department has joined that list. The government should suspend both doctors, provide a government job for a family member and grant a solatium of 2 crore rupees.”

The ruling DMK government has also announced a ₹10 lakh compensation for the family. An FIR has been filed against two doctors at the Periyar Nagar Government Hospital in Kolathur in connection with the botched surgery that resulted in Priya’s death.

PM Modi’s Remarks At G20 Summit In Bali: Calls For Ceasefire In Ukraine War, Emphasizes On Fertilizer Security

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 15 November 2022 attend the G20 Summit at Indonesia spoke of the challenges presented by climate change, the Covid pandemic, and the importance of India being energy secure.

He also called for a ceasefire and diplomacy in the Russia-Ukraine war.

Here is the full text of his remarks translated in English.

Namaskar!

I heartily congratulate President Joko Widodo for giving effective leadership to the G-20 in a challenging global environment. Climate change, the Covid pandemic, the developments in Ukraine, and the global problems associated with it. All these together have caused havoc in the world. Global supply chains are in ruins. There is a crisis of essentials, essential goods all over the world. The challenge for the poor citizens of every country is more severe. Everyday life was already a struggle for them. They do not have the financial capacity to deal with the double whammy. Due to the double whammy, they lack the financial capacity to handle it. We should also not hesitate to acknowledge that multilateral institutions such as the UN have been unsuccessful on these issues. And we have all failed to make suitable reforms in them. Therefore, today the world has greater expectations from the G-20, the relevance of our group has become more significant.

Excellencies

I have repeatedly said that we have to find a way to return to the path of ceasefire and diplomacy in Ukraine. Over the past century, the Second World War wreaked havoc in the world. After that, the leaders of that time made a serious effort to take the path of peace. Now it’s our turn. The onus of creating a new world order for the post-Covid period lies on our shoulders. The need of the hour is to show concrete and collective resolve to ensure peace, harmony and security in the world. I am confident that next year when the G20 meets in the holy land of Buddha and Gandhi, we will all agree to convey a strong message of peace to the world.

Excellencies,

During the pandemic, India ensured food security of its 1.3 billion citizens. At the same time, food grains were also supplied to many countries in need. The current shortage of fertilizers in terms of food security is also a huge crisis. Today’s fertilizer shortage is tomorrow’s food crisis, for which the world will not have a solution. We should build mutual agreement to maintain the supply chain of both manure and food grains stable and assured. In India, for sustainable food security, we are promoting natural farming, and re-popularising nutritious and traditional foodgrains like millets. Millets can also solve global malnutrition and hunger. We all must celebrate the International Year of Millets with great enthusiasm next year.

Excellencies,

India’s energy-security is also important for global growth, as it is the world’s fastest growing economy. We must not promote any restrictions on the supply of energy and stability in the energy market should be ensured. India is committed to clean energy and environment. By 2030, half of our electricity will be generated from renewable sources. Time-bound and affordable finance and sustainable supply of technology to developing countries is essential for inclusive energy transition.

Excellencies,

During India’s G-20 Presidency, we will work for global consensus on all these issues.

TNM’s Dhanya Rajendran Extracts Sympathy Bytes From Terrorist Convicted For Killing Ex-Indian PM

The Supreme Court released the remaining six convicts in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case on Friday (11 November 2022), extending the benefit of its order that freed their co-convict AG Perarivalan saying, “the appellants are directed to be set at liberty if not required in any other matter”.

Hearing the convict’s petitions, a bench of Justices B R Gavai and B V Nagarathna noted that the applicants’ death sentences had previously been commuted to life sentences due to delays. “We order that all appellants’ sentences be deemed served.” “The applicants are thus ordered to be released unless otherwise required,” the bench said.

According to the investigation agencies, Nalini took Dhanu, the suicide bomber, to a shop to stitch the salwar kameez that was used to conceal the IED for the assassination. The attack also claimed the lives of fifteen other people, including nine police officers, and injured 43 others.

However, parties like DMK, VCK, MDMK, and NTK, as well as a few other news outlets have been trying hard to portray the Rajiv Gandhi assassins as innocents. Dhanya Rajendran, Editor-in-Chief of The News Minutes, did an interview with Rajiv Gandhi’s assassin Nalini, eulogizing her and extracting sympathy bytes.

The thumbnail of The News Minute interview with the now-released terror convict, carried the title “SC ended my suffering”. The video starts off with a clip of an emotionally overwhelmed Nalini coming out of jail.

“31 years in jail, Nalini Sriharan is finally a free woman”, Dhanya Rajendran starts off the interview.

Expressing her feelings after hearing the Supreme Court judgement, the convicted terrorist in the Rajiv Gandhi Assassination case who has now been released sid,”This was something I was expecting. If Arivu (Perarivalan – another assassin) could be released, I believe the Supreme Court will release us as well. Arivu was prosecuted under Central Acts, but I was only prosecuted under state laws: IPC sections 302 and 120b. I should have been released a long time ago.

She continued, “Perumal (inferred to be a police officer), who used to assist me inside the prison, broke the news of my release. He demanded biriyani as a treat for informing me about the news of my release.”

Further, Dhanya as a matter-of-factly states “When you live in Tamil Nadu you see a lot of people reacting with joy, happiness, satsifaction, whatever it it is. But outside there are a lot of people who believe that this sends a wrong message. The Congress especially had a press meet yesterday.”

In response this Nalini stated,”They have their own opinion. We cannot expect everyone to love us or understand us. Opinions may differ.”

Nalini said to the families of the victims who died in the bomb blast along with Rajiv Gandhi, “The decision was made by the Supreme Court, and no one can question it. The Supreme Court is more familiar with the case than the victims’ families. Will the dead people come to life if we stay in jail indefinitely? If so, I will definitely go to jail again.”

Nalini then continued,”We were happy when Justice Sathaasivam’s judgement came. Late Chief Minister J Jayalalitha did her best to get us out, but she could not do it. Then Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami did everything correct to get us out, but it did not materialize as it is a lengthy process.”

Dhanya Rajendran who can be seen with a toothy smile all through the interview, further attempted to trivialize the bomb blast by asking Nalini about ‘her struggles’ in jail. She asked Nalini if she had become acquainted, like Arivu, with the nitty-gritty of filing petitions in court. She went on to ask about her daughter’s reaction to the verdict, how the degree she pursued while in jail helped her, her record of being in jail for three decades, her difficulties during her pregnancy in jail, and other questions that whitewashes her image as a bomb blast convict.

Dhanya further asked “I’ve always felt that Megara perhaps suffered the most, your daughter. Do you feel so?” to which Nalini replied “Yea, I also feel the same way and she also feels the same way.. We are matured. We can endure all these things. She (her daughter) was young. She didn’t get whatever a young baby deserves. So, what you say is correct. She was the most unfortunate baby.”

Nalini further added,”I faced numerous challenges both before and after my pregnancy. Nobody assisted me. It was extremely difficult to care for my daughter while she was in jail with me. Now I wanted to live my life for my family, who had lost everything as a result of my actions.”

She further said,”Governor RN Ravi previously worked as a police officer. How can I expect him to sign my mercy petition when many police officers were killed in the case to which I am related? He must be extremely intelligent in order to lead our Intelligence for ten years. I am not going to say anything against him.”
