P.K. Sekar Babu, the Minister of Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department and the Member of Legislative Assembly from Harbour Constituency while speaking at an event in Chennai attacked the north Indian community saying that they keep getting richer and richer because of Dravidian parties and not the BJP. He also commented on their voting preferences saying that they keep supporting BJP out of illusion.
The Mahavir International Chennai Metro had organized a food distribution event for the poor. The had invited DMK Minister Sekar Babu, DMK MP Dayanidhi Maran and DMK MLA I. Paranthaman for the event.
During the event, DMK Minister P.K. Sekar Babu started to speak politics and took to insult the north Indian community for not voting the DMK.
“You North Indians got richer because of the rule of Dravidian parties and not the BJP. But you keep supporting them out of illusion.”, he said.
“Our MP (referring Dayanidhi Maran) often tells me ‘They never vote for us. Why are you struggling so much for them?’. I tell him that they are also people who live here.” he said adding that an MLA or CM should be a leader for all.
“During 2014 Lok Sabha Elections, I campaigned for our candidate Dayanidhi Maran. You didn’t vote then. Then came 2016 Assembly Elections, and I stood as the candidate. That time too, we didn’t get your vote bank. After getting elected as MLA in 2016, we served for you. When you faced problem with respect to housing, we helped you without expecting any favour from you. Likewise in 2019, Dayanidhi Maran was elected MP. But we didn’t get significant votes from the areas you reside in. Despite that, myself and the MP kept working for you. You didn’t vote for us. Hence I am saying all this.” he said.
“In 2021 Assembly Elections, I begged with folded hands to vote for us (DMK). But let me be honest with you, in the areas where you reside, we got just 50 votes while BJP got 300-350 votes. Whenever we ask, you say you voted for us. Earlier there was ballot system. We won’t know which area voted for which party as the ballot papers would get mixed. Now with EVMs, it is easy find which area voted for party. You didn’t vote for the MLA, MP who worked for you. But we won’t reject you because of that. No matter how much you reject us, the DMK and its MP are here to work for you people.”, he said.
The DMK Minister also took to quoting a Thirukkural which means “Make a wrongdoer feel guilty and shy by doing him a favour” implying that the north Indians are wrong doers as they are voting for BJP alliance.
