The National Law School of India University (NLSIU) in Bengaluru has come under fire after a post from July 2025 went viral on social media. During an event, a Law Society (LawSoc) stall featured a dartboard with photographs of political figures, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Veer Savarkar, Hitler, POTUS Trump, among others.
The stall was set up during the committee orientation fair. Photos circulating online show a dartboard with images of political figures placed across different scoring zones. The pictures include as mentioned above.
The activity was described online as “Take aim at fascism.” Posters of figures like EV Ramasamy also featured in the stall.
The controversy centres on whether using photographs of political leaders as targets crosses the line from political expression into conduct inappropriate for a university campus, particularly at a premier law institution.
Questions have also been raised over whether the activity was known to or approved by the university administration.

Convocation Row
This comes weeks after NLSIU was embroiled in another controversy involving its 2026 convocation.
More than 700 students and alumni had signed a statement opposing the proposed participation of Chief Justice of India Surya Kant and Bar Council of India Chairman Manan Kumar Mishra in the university’s convocation. The group included 165 graduating students, 409 current students and 128 alumni.
NLSIU subsequently cancelled its 34th annual convocation, originally scheduled for September 12, citing “unavoidable circumstances.” The university said graduating students would receive their degrees in absentia.
The university has since rescheduled the convocation for October 17, with students given the option of attending or receiving their degrees in absentia.
