The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has stepped up its campaign for the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) elections, with its candidates and workers reaching out to students across colleges over campus issues and student concerns.
The ABVP panel comprises Yash Dabas for President, Ishu Maurya for Vice-President, Riya Chhawdi for Secretary and Lakshya Raj Singh for Joint Secretary. The panel is contesting on Ballot Number 7-3-3-3.
According to the ABVP, DUSU elections have been held since 1954, while the organisation began contesting in 1971. It won all four posts in the first direct elections in 1973.
The organisation said it has won the President’s post nine times in the 13 DUSU elections held since 2010. ABVP attributed its electoral record to its year-round presence on campus and its work on student issues.
The organisation has highlighted issues including an increase in postgraduate seats, U-Special bus services, centralised hostel allocation, Pink Booths, Vamika Van and infrastructure development. It also cited its Great DUSU Internship, through which it said around 7,000 students have received training, and its Law Internship, which it said has trained around 1,000 students.
ABVP Delhi State Secretary Sarthak Sharma said the organisation’s continued campus presence had helped it retain student support.
“ABVP has always been the first choice of students because we work on the ground throughout the year to resolve their concerns,” Sharma said.
He also targeted the Congress-affiliated National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), accusing it of relying on “lies and misinformation” and alleging that internal divisions had emerged over candidate selection.
Sharma alleged that a relative of a prominent Congress leader had been given a ticket, while dissatisfied aspirants had entered the election as rebels.
“An organisation that cannot maintain coordination within its own ranks cannot claim to represent the aspirations of Delhi University students,” he said.
Sharma also said that the ABVP panel was heading towards a “decisive 4-0 victory” in the elections.
