A 27-year-old woman’s wait for her father at the Tiruvarur New Bus Stand took an ugly turn yesterday when she was subjected to harassment by two men, including a local functionary of the Tamizhaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK).
The accused have been identified as Anand, a native of Karumbiyur near Ananthambadi in Thiruthuraipoondi who serves as the TVK’s Thiruthuraipoondi North Union Secretary, and his friend Ashok.
According to police, the woman was standing alone at the bus stand when the duo approached and engaged in harassing behaviour. The situation escalated when her father arrived at the scene. He promptly confiscated the motorcycle keys belonging to Anand and Ashok, secured his daughter, and proceeded to the Tiruvarur Town Police Station to file a formal complaint.
Acting on the complaint, police have registered a case against both men under three sections, including charges related to harassment. They have been arrested and are currently in custody as investigations continue.
