Amman Temples In Vizhupuram Demolished By DMK Govt Officials Citing Court Order; Residents Questions Urgency Behind Razing Down Temples Overnight Despite Other Encroachments

In Villupuram, authorities demolished a temple that had been built allegedly encroaching on a cemetery area, following a court order. This action sparked protests from local residents, who surrounded the police and engaged in heated arguments.

For over a decade, three temples—Angalamman, Kurathi Amman, and Periyayi Amman—had stood in the Vazhudareddy Colony area of Villupuram. Two years ago, these temples were constructed and consecrated with Kumbabhishekam ceremonies.

Arogyaswamy filed a case in the Madras High Court, alleging that these temples were encroaching on the cemetery. Consequently, the court ordered the removal of the encroached temples. On 1st May 2024, under the guidance of Municipal Commissioner Ramesh, the encroachment removal process commenced.

Facing strong opposition from local residents, who attempted to stage protests, over 100 policemen were deployed for security purposes during the removal operation. Despite these measures, residents encircled officials and police, engaging in confrontations. Subsequently, the temple was completely demolished under police supervision.

Residents criticized authorities for demolishing the temples despite regular payment of taxes, including temple taxes, electricity bills, and water taxes. As the temple was razed, devotees expressed their discontent by hurling mud cursing at the police and officials.

Ram Prasad addressed the media following the demolition of the temple by revenue officials, representing the residents of Vazhudareddy Colony. He explained that initially, a small statue of the Anngalamman deity was worshipped by the community, but as faith grew stronger, they collectively raised funds to construct a temple. Unfortunately, the temple was situated within their cemetery, which has been reduced from its original five and a half acres to just one or one and a half acres due to encroachments by various entities such as a brandy company, a rice mill, and a Honda showroom.

But only ten cents of land were utilized for the temple, the government, prompted by a petition from Arockiasamy, a self-proclaimed social activist, obtained court permission to demolish it. Ram Prasad expressed dismay at the lack of communication from the authorities, as they did not notify the residents or issue any warning before the demolition.

Furthermore, he highlighted the coercion faced by the temple administrator, Jaya Kumar, who was pressured into signing off on the demolition without proper consultation. Ram Prasad questioned the urgency behind destroying a place of worship without due process or consideration for the sentiments of the community.

Officials from the government came to raze down the temple. Our prayers to them was this – There are a total of 5.25 acres here. Of that, there is a brandy company called MGM running for many years. The encroachments made by that company, there is a textile company – Chennai Silks – we don’t know if it is rightly there. Another rice mill is there. It is now  a Honda showroom. All these encroachments have reduced the area to 2 acres. But our temple is hardly 10 cents. But today morning, government officials came to evict in the wee hours around 3 AM when everybody in the village were asleep. Without informing, around 300-400 policemen laid siege and razed the temple down. I don’t know how this is justifiable!“, Ram Prasad lamented.

Temple Festival In Thanjavur District Turns Sour: Locals Clash With Authorities Over Floral Offerings Ban

The individuals of Ayyambatti near Orathanadu in Thanjavur district have lodged a formal complaint with the authorities, urging decisive measures against the officers who barred their community from bringing floral offerings during the Ayyanar temple festivities, resulting in physical confrontation.

Over 350 residents of Ayyambatti convened and submitted a plea at the district collector’s office, seeking redress against law enforcement officials who prevented their community members from participating in the Ayyanar temple festival in Thanjavur district, specifically at Kottaitheru within the Orathanadu circle.

The Valavanda Ayyannar Temple, situated on Kottaitheru  near Orathanadu in Thanjavur District, has observed its traditional festivities for over seven decades. Administered by the 18 village group, certain communities hold significant responsibilities during this annual ten-day celebration. While it’s not customary to bring floral arrangements to this event, recent years have seen members of another community doing so, prompting Ayyambatti locals to request similar participation with the village head. Following discussions on the matter, with representatives from the 18 village on the 28 April 2024, permission was granted for Ayyambatti villagers to contribute floral offerings. However, it’s alleged that individuals from a particular community obstructed them from doing so.

On the night of the 28th, Ayyambatti villagers gathered and proceeded with floral offerings, only to be intercepted by police and revenue department officials, leading to a confrontation. Reports indicate that the police employed batons to disperse the villagers, resulting in severe injuries to two individuals who are currently hospitalized. Subsequently, ten individuals, including Mahalingam (48), Karunanidhi (60), Satish (37), Ayyappan (25), and Saminathan (20) from Ayyambatti North Street and Keeza Street, were detained by the police.

Responding to these events, more than 350 villagers, accompanied by Tamilar Desam Katchi coordinator Guru Manikandan, State General Secretary Thalavai Rajesh, submitted a petition at the Thanjavur Collector’s office. They demand action against the officers involved in the altercation, the release of the ten detainees without charges, and the removal of police presence from Ayyambatti village. The villagers assert that failure to address their grievances will result in widespread protests throughout Tamil Nadu, involving members of their community.

Teenager Stabbed To Death Over Liquor Sale, Woman Burnt, Young Man Stabbed: 3 Crimes Rock Rajapalayam

In a series of shocking incidents, three separate cases of violence have shaken the town of Rajapalayam.

The first incident revolves around 32-year-old Saravanan, son of Ramasamy, a resident of Duraisamypuram in Rajapalayam. Saravanan, who is unmarried, worked as an employee at a government TASMAC outlet under the Rajapalayam Railway Over Bridge. Allegations suggest that he was involved in the illegal sale of liquor in the black market in the same area. It is reported that more than 10 individuals from the Duraisamypuram area were engaged in similar illegal activities.

Tensions have been brewing between these two parties due to disputes over the sale of liquor. Last night, a clash erupted between the two parties as they fought over the distribution of liquor bottles. Enraged by Saravanan’s alleged illegal activities, members of the opposing party, under the influence of alcohol and ganja, attacked and hacked Saravanan to death.

In another disturbing incident, a youth was hacked to death in the Mudugudi area under the South police station last night, following a social dispute. Additionally, a young man attempted to set a woman on fire by pouring kerosene on her in an unrelated incident.

Director and actor Mysskin’s recent speech at the audio launch of the film ‘The Proof’ has stirred controversy on social media platforms. Mysskin’s remarks urging people to prioritize watching films over visiting temples have drawn severe criticism online.

Mysskin made a derisive remark about Hindu beliefs under the guise of encouraging more people to visit movie theaters, He said, “Select and watch a film. Cinema is a donation that you offer, donot stop the offering. Many people are watching films sitting at home. How can you watch a film in your house? Will you watch the film while cutting onions at home or by scolding your husband or will you watch by scolding your wife?”

Later addressing the audience at the audio launch, Mysskin stated, “Don’t go to the temple, go to the theater. If 5 people in a family don’t go and watch a movie, it’s not a family. Wear a new dress, wear perfume, go to theatre in a car and buy popcorn and watch the film like that.” He continued, “Who among us knows Shiva? We know only our Sivaji as Shiva. I don’t know we ever will see shiva, but have seen shiva in Thiruvilayadal.” Implying theat he have encountered Shiva in performances of Shivaji Ganesan, and concluded the temple offers no reward,  However, in the theater, you can delight in laughter and experience the full spectrum of emotions, from tears to jubilation, while watching moving films.

Netizens have vehemently criticized Mysskin for portraying himself as an all-knowing director in the film industry. Despite his recent string of directorial flops, he has taken on acting roles in consecutive films as Maveeran and Leo. The latest film, “Devil,” directed by his younger brother and featuring music by Mysskin, failed to meet expectations this year. Consequently, he seems intent on generating controversy through negative publicity. Netizens mocked Mysskin, instead of giving speeches, he should prioritize and focus on directing quality films other than singling out Hinduism for criticism without addressing other faiths.

Subsequently, an MRI scan was conducted after 7 o’clock, and we were asked to wait for the results.”

TN CPI-M Leader Slams Journalist Mani For Calling Out Duplicity Of Communists

CPI(M) State executive member K Kanagaraj has strongly denounced Senior journalist Mani for his recent commentary on the Kerala elections and his critique of the prominent parties CPI and CPM, sparking another round of controversy.

In a recent interview with Tamil Mint’s YouTube channel, journalist Mani discussed the performance of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), or CPM, in the parliamentary elections. He noted that out of 534 constituencies, the CPM only secured three seats, two from Tamil Nadu and one from Kerala. Moreover, out of the 20 seats contested in Kerala, they won just one, garnering a mere 1.75% of the vote share in the previous election. Mani emphasized the significance of the upcoming elections, stating that it is crucial for the CPM to secure at least 11 seats to gain national recognition, or they risk facing setbacks. He highlighted the consequences of failing to meet this threshold, noting that the party may lose its status and symbols according to the Election Commission’s regulations. Once dominant in states like West Bengal, Tripura, and Kerala, the CPM’s influence has dwindled, now primarily confined to Kerala like a chiefdom. Mani also mentioned the party’s opposition to Rahul Gandhi’s candidacy in the Wayanad constituency, as it signifies the CPM’s limited potential for electoral gains beyond Kerala, reducing it to a regional entity.

He went on to criticize the CPM, highlighting an internal conflict between the Congress and CPM in Kerala. He expressed that it’s natural for national parties to have varying stances from state to state, but he found it concerning that their stance could change from within a constituency. As an example, he pointed out that while CPM supports a candidate in the Puducherry mainland, it opposes Congress in the Kerala part of Puducherry, specifically in Mahe. He described this inconsistency as a mockery, suggesting that while their speeches may sound promising, their actions reveal them to be hypocritical. Mani said, “A person can speak only with his mouth, but what if he speaks with nine holes, that is CPM. Speech will be terrible. If you say this, friends (Thozhars) will get angry, How is that?
It is understandable if you are hugging Congress in Bengal and stabbing in Kerala. But here in Puducherry the elections are going on simultaneously, in a gap of a week, (you) support Congress in Puducherry adjoining Tamil Nadu, support in Yanam adjoining Andhra and oppose in Mahe adjoining Kerala.”

He also censured the implicit alliance between the CPM and BJP during the 1980s, highlighting their recent collaboration and citing a report from The Hindu newspaper which disclosed a meeting between a CPM party official and the BJP in Kerala. He questioned the rationale behind such a meeting given the historical animosity between the two parties, suggesting that the CPM has devolved into a factional power struggle where prioritizing the defense of the state is deemed sufficient, resulting in its decline. He expressed concern that the CPM might not hesitate to form alliances with the BJP if it perceives the Congress as its sole adversary in the state, albeit through subtle means, now currently they are reflecting the worlds coined by BJP. Later, he remarked that the Left has been eradicated from India and reduced to a mere pressure groups.

In response to the criticism leveled by journalist Mani, the CPM, known for advocating tolerance to criticism and consistently denouncing BJP fascism while championing freedom of expression, now finds itself at the receiving end of severe criticism because of State executive member K. Kanagaraj. As the interview commenced, Kanagaraj asserted that the journalist, Mani, did not adhere to the standards expected of a professional in the field, adding that he could adopt a similar manner of speaking if he chose to do so and stated, “Why all the cavities for Mani is blocked, I’m thinking to ask is all the nerves going to the brain are damaged?” Then he refuted Mani’s criticism alleging that the CPM adopted a tone reminiscent of the BJP, as it was actually the Congress leader who initiated the issue. Therefore, if Mani is solely focusing on criticizing the communists while ignoring the Congress, it demonstrates his strong hostility towards us. My point is, Mani’s criticism is one-sided. You shouldn’t act as though people perceive you as a mere mouthpiece, only speaking for personal gain. It’s important to communicate respectfully and effectively. Kanagaraj came out sharply stating, “You should not talk like this after selling your mouth for rent”

Criticism is being directed at CPM and its State executive member K Kanagaraj by internet users for stifling journalistic viewpoints. The tone adopted by CPM is perceived as threatening and suppressive toward critics. And the State Secretary of the Tamilnadu BJP SG Suryah has also denounced this action, expressing dismay stated, FASCISM. Journalist Mani criticises #BJP every day. But we never threatened him. A non-existent entity like CPM has the temerity to threaten a senior journalist like this? Where are the Journalist Associations? Wouldn’t they have jumped by now had it been by a BJP Leader?”
