TNM's Dhanya Rajendran Uses Mohanlal Pic In Paywalled Article With No Mention Of Him, Netizens Slam Her For Baiting, TNM Minions Go In Damage Control Mode

The News Minute’s Dhanya Rajendran has been targeting Malayalam superstar Mohanlal, who was the head of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA).

Following the Hema Committee Report and the wave of sexual harassment allegations in the industry, Mohanlal resigned from his post at AMMA. Mohanlal stated he was “not part of any power group” and had “no knowledge” of such groups in the industry. He acknowledged that AMMA could not address all issues within the vast Malayalam cinema industry. Mohanlal emphasized, “Wrongdoers should be punished if there is evidence against them,” and supported the government’s decision to release the Hema Committee report.

Dhanya shared an article on Radhika Sarathkumar making a startling revelation about a movie she worked in the Malayalam film industry. The cover picture of this article had Mohanlal’s picture on it. If we look into the article, there is no reference to Mohanlal anywhere inside. Radhika did not mention anything about Lal in the Asianet interview nor was there any reference to him anywhere on that page. And yet, she used the picture.

The word AMMA is mentioned 4 times on the whole page, and she had put it behind a paywall! Here are some netizen reactions calling out the hypocrisy of The News Minute, Dhanya, and her minions.

https://twitter.com/NkRamavarma/status/1830600760079561133

Many netizens pulled out pictures of her with Rima Kallingal who has been accused of hosting rave parties in Kerala.

When netizens questioned her intent in using Mohanlal’s picture, her minions came out in support of her one by one.

Korah Abraham who works at TNM came up with a thread of posts to explain why it was done so. He wrote, “Lot of outrage regarding Mohanlal’s picture being used in this article. It’s because it was published on Aug 27 and was about AMMA and Mohanlal. You will know why @dhanyarajendran made the Radhika reference if you read the article. One section was on men collecting souvenirs. These souvenirs as we were told could be CCTV footage to blackmail. Which is why she said check Radhika video (her second tweet) and come back and read this.”

Later, Dhanya and her supporters justified it, saying the newsletter was published a day before Mohanlal quit as AMMA chief. Since the content was related to AMMA, it was seemingly the apparent choice for Dhanya to use his picture!

Here are a few more explanations given by her minions and supporters.

Another minion at TNM also did the same and urged people to read the article.

A writer at TNM also buttressed his paymaster Dhanya by calling out the ‘trolls‘.

Yet another minion at TNM begged people to read the article which had by then been removed from the paywall after the outrage.

Here comes her justification for the usage of Mohanlal’s picture.

These people kept insisting the netizens who questioned the usage of Mohanlal’s picture ‘read’ the article – looks like they tried to do something clickbait, but it backfired. Reader also added community notes which confirmed it was a misleading picture.

“Periyarist” Sundaravalli Abuses Madras HC Judge GR Swaminathan, Labels Him “Sanghi”, Ascribes Political Motive To The Judge In ‘Sattai’ Duraimurugan Case

Professor Sundaravalli, a Periyarist who identifies as a student of Ambedkar, EVR, and Marxism, has ignited controversy by attacking the reputation of GR Swaminathan, a sitting judge of the Madras High Court. She has been accused of depicting his judgments as biased and aligning with the RSS, even labelling him a “Sanghi” on her YouTube channel.

Recently, after the NTK criticized a song that mocked former DMK chief Karunanidhi, a series of complaints were filed with the Avadi and Pattabiram police. These complaints have led to charges being brought against Seeman under the SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act lodged on 30 and 31 August 2024, including sections 353 of the BNS and sections 3(1)(r) and 3(1)(s) of the SC/ST Act alleging that Seeman used a casteist slur during one of his rallies in the lead-up to the Vikravandi by-poll in July.

In a recent video on her YouTube channel, Sundaravalli criticized NTK chief Seeman but did not stop there. She crossed the line by attacking Justice GR Swaminathan, a Madras High Court sitting judge. Sundaravalli alleged that Justice Swaminathan is affiliated with the RSS and accused him of delivering biased judgments in favour of the BJP, even labelling him a “Sanghi.” She also claimed that the judge’s handling of the Tanjore student suicide case disparaged Christians and ridiculed their community. She says many of his judgments align with RSS and BJP interests. Sundaravalli further suggested that Justice Swaminathan’s praise of Sattai Duraimurugan was part of a scheme orchestrated by Seeman to influence the judge through RSS connections.

Sundaravalli commented, “When Sattai Duraimurugan was arrested and remanded over the song ‘Kala thanam konda Karunanidhi,’ Swaminathan, the honest judge said he shouldn’t be arrested in this manner.” She then laughed and continued her disparaging remarks, questioning, “Do you know who is this so-called honest Judge Swaminathan really is? An RSS man, raised in RSS, a Sanghi who pass judgments (favoring) BJP. He was also one of the mob that insulted Christians in the Thanjavur students death case. His judgement was to insult the Christians. If you looking at more of his judgments, it will be the judgment favouring the RSS, BJP mob. Now, how do I look at this judgment by him declaring Sattai Duraimurugan as being “very good”? It means it seems like a possible scheme orchestrated by Sattai Duraimurugan’s group, especially Seeman, to negotiate and bargain from the Sanghis and influencing Judge Swaminathan.”

Her claims, lacking substantial evidence, appear to be driven by political motives. This has led to increasing calls on social media for appropriate action to address the damage she has done to the judiciary’s reputation.

In 2019, the Supreme Court stated that assigning political motives to a judgment is tantamount to “an act of contempt of the gravest form.” In the case of Rustom Cowasjee Cooper v. Union of India (1970), a six-judge Constitutional Bench addressed contempt proceedings initiated due to newspaper reports of speeches criticizing a Supreme Court decision. The Court ruled that while fair and moderate criticism, even if strong, is permissible, attributing improper motives to judges or actions that bring courts into disrepute or obstruct their functioning constitutes serious contempt, which the Court will address.

UK Suspends Some Arms Sales To Israel

The UK government has suspended some arms export licenses to Israel. Foreign Secretary David Lammy informed lawmakers in parliament on Monday that around 30 licenses, out of a total of approximately 350, were being suspended, Xinhua news agency reported.

Lammy stated that assessments had indicated a clear risk that UK arms could be used to commit or facilitate serious violations of international humanitarian law.

The Foreign Office said that a two-month review had raised concerns about Israel’s conduct in the conflict in Gaza. Israel has condemned the UK government’s move and called it “a step that sends a very problematic message” to Hamas and its backers in Iran.

In a statement, Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz expressed his country’s “disappointment” with the latest suspension by the UK’s new Labor government, as well as with previous decisions Britain made regarding Israel’s military operations in the Gaza Strip. “Israel is a law-abiding nation,” Katz said, adding that he expects “friendly countries like Britain to recognise this”.

He voiced hope that “the deep friendship between Britain and Israel, which has endured since Israel’s founding, will continue in the future”.

30 Crore Unorganised Workers Register On eShram Portal In Just 3 Years

The eShram portal, launched by the government to support unorganised workers across the country, has crossed 30 crore registrations in just three years of its launch. The integration of social security schemes on eShram will help in saturation of schemes and access of schemes to eligible eShram workers.

According to the Union Budget 2024-25, a comprehensive integration of eShram portal with other government websites will facilitate a ‘One-Stop-Solution’. Launched on August 26, 2021, the initiative aims to facilitate access of various social security schemes being implemented by different ministries and departments to unorganised workers through the eShram portal.

The Ministry of Labour and Employment has also approached other ministries like Ministry of Panchayati Raj (MoPR), Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) and Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD), etc. to register the unorganised workers under their ambit on eShram portal at the earliest.

“The eShram-One Stop Solution will serve as a facilitator to ensure seamless access of various Government schemes to the unorganised workers. This will help in creating awareness of the schemes meant for unorganised workers while ensuring saturation of the schemes through identification of left-out potential beneficiaries,” said the Ministry of Labour and Employment.

As part of the project, the ministry has been working to integrate major schemes like Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY), Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY), Ayushman Bharat – Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY), Pradhan Mantri Street Vendor’s Atmanirbhar Nidhi (PM-SVANidhi), Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Gramin (PMAY-G), Ration Card scheme etc. for the benefit of the unorganised workers.

The government said to ensure that the benefits of welfare schemes reach all workers at the grassroots level, it is important to onboard all unorganised workers, including health workers like ASHA workers, Anganwadi workers and those in working in villages, gram panchayats, sabhas and parishads, building and construction projects including MGNREGA workers and other similar workers.

Sab Caste Saath, Sab Caste Vikaas: What Modi-Shah Can Do To Seal The Cracks In Their Armour

What Modi-Shah Can Do To Seal The Cracks In Their Armour

Prime Minister Narendra Modi could consider implementing a nationwide caste reservation system and empowering caste welfare associations to counter the recent electoral setbacks, drawing inspiration from Tamil Nadu’s model. These measures can balance the aspirations of various Hindu communities, defuse fears about the removal of reservations, and prevent future electoral surprises. As the BJP reflects on its unexpected losses, particularly in Uttar Pradesh, these strategies might offer a path to regain momentum and address caste-related challenges in Indian politics.

Election 2024 Results

Prime Minister Narendra Modi received the shocker of his life when the BJP won only 240 seats in the recently concluded Lok Sabha polls. Even the most bearish analysts predicted 270 seats for the BJP in the LS polls, the outcome was worse than the worst-case scenario.

Uttar Pradesh shocked everyone by delivering 43 seats and a 44% vote share to the INDI alliance. The NDA managed to retain the 43.5% vote share from the 2014 Lok Sabha polls. However, last time, the state fetched NDA 71 seats, which fell to 36 seats now. Samajwadi Party, SP, polled 22.5% then and Cong 7.5% in 2014. A SP-Cong alliance has polled 44% now. Mayawati-led BSP polled 19.5% votes in 2014 and 9.3% votes in 2024.

What surprised psephologists was that a party of two social groups – Yadavs and Muslims, i.e., SP—managed to get a big chunk of votes from other castes across the spectrum in alliance with Congress and polling close to 44%. This ability to woo non-Yadav and non-Muslim votes by the Akhilesh-led SP gave Sri Narendra Modi the biggest shock of his life. The aura of invincibility around Modi diminished so much that he managed to win Varanasi by just 1.52 lakh votes against the 4.79 lakh votes margin in 2019.

What Went Wrong In UP?

Feedback sought by the piece’s writers from the ground in UP reveals that a section of OBCs and SCs voted for the INDI alliance because they feared the Modi Government would abolish reservations through constitutional amendment if the NDA were to win 400 seats. As Modi and NDA leaders sought 400 seats, they did not clearly state, “Why should the electorate give them 400 seats?”

INDI alliance cleverly used these lacunae and did extensive ground campaigns highlighting the risks to the reservation system if Modi gets 400 seats. This smartly done campaign fetched them great electoral benefits. Though BJP managed to retain 43.5% thanks to Modi’s hard work and charisma, the SP alliance managed to do the unthinkable by consolidating a section of hitherto rival groups, i.e. Non-Yadav OBCs and SCs, in its favour and getting 44% votes and 43 seats. Modi was outsmarted in his own game of social reengineering for the first time.

Modi and the team have much to introspect in the short and the long run and make course corrections.

Elections 2024 have exposed the limitations of the primary strategy of consolidating Hindu votes.

Caste is a faultline the opposition has exploited quite well and will continue to exploit.

Here’s how Modi-Shah can counter this faultline:

1. Implementing Tamil Nadu Model Of Reservations

Tamil Nadu is one state where caste reservation is well above the 50% mark and is at 69%. 18% is reserved for SCs, 1% for STs, 30% for OBCs and 20% for MBCs. The backward class quota is divided into two- one for OBCs and the other for Most Backward Classes. Modi government can contemplate bringing a constitutional amendment taking the caste reservation nationwide to 80% from the current 59.50%. They could create a new category, Most Backward Classes, and set aside a specific quantum for them.

The government can conduct a caste census by updating data through the Aadhar Database. It will give them an accurate picture of who is where in terms of numbers and allow them to rework the pie.

The rumours about Modi removing reservations will die, and the INDI alliance’s gains will vanish.

One should also note that the communities demanding reservations in various states today are largely the agrarian communities that enjoy the benefits of reservation in Tamil Nadu.

2. Empowering Caste Welfare Associations

Telangana, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh have created caste welfare associations that get govt funding and take care of welfare activities of the respective castes, like offering coaching for competitive exams to creating hostel facilities to fund new ventures. The government can establish and empower such organisations nation wide. They can collect funds and set up schools and colleges exclusively to take care of their students. If reservation is increased to 80% from the current 59.5%, general category and students from communities that does not benefit from reservations will be affected.

To ensure such students are not left high and dry, such caste welfare organisations can be empowered legally and provided financial support in the initial years to set up institutions to exclusively take care of the needs of their students who are denied a college seat of their choice because of reservation systems. These organisations can be allowed to access CSR funding or can be set up as private bodies. Such institutions have to be given all necessary clearances to start these colleges and schools with no burden of reservations. These institutions can be made self-sustaining from day one leveraging caste as a social capital.

Caste Census

Through the above two innovative measures, Modi can balance the aspirations of the various Hindu castes and communities. Most importantly, these measures will destroy the I.N.D.I alliance’s fear-mongering schemes.

The first step to do this is implementing a caste census!

Once the reservation is increased in line with the caste census and the caste organisations are empowered, the country will not be held to ransom by protests by a select few calling for increased reservations. It is time to press the development accelerator and not let the country be held to ransom by protests and fear-mongering.

And maybe in the future, some of these community associations can even be empowered to have their own community banks—not a fresh idea, but one that is borrowed from the past—an idea that helps leverage social capital.

Caste is here to stay. No one can eradicate it. It is time to start leveraging caste as a positive social capital tool for empowerment and development.

“If Ponmudi Has A Spine, Let Him Shut Down DMK Family-Owned Sunshine School Where Hindi & Sanskrit Are Taught”, Says TN BJP Leader H Raja On DMK Bias Towards 2-Langauge Policy

H. Raja, the Tamil Nadu BJP leader and State Coordinating Committee Convenor, has strongly criticized the DMK for its inconsistent stance on language policy and challenged DMK Minister Ponmudi to address the teaching of Hindi and Sanskrit in schools managed by Chief Minister Stalin’s family. Raja ridiculed the DMK for its apparent bias and asserted that decisions about language instruction should be made by students and their parents, rather than being dictated by the state.

H. Raja recently voiced his criticism in response to media inquiries about the DMK’s stance on its two-language policy. He responded after attending the consecration ceremony of a Ganesha idol organized by the Hindu Makkal Katchi in Kumbakonam. Following the event, Raja raised concerns about alleged threats from the police to dismantle the shamiana (decorative canopy) and pedestal of the consecrated Ganesha idol. He questioned whether such measures would be acceptable if applied to religious symbols of other faiths, urging the Tamil Nadu government to take action against any police officers involved. Raja warned that if the government fails to address the issue, the BJP will join forces with Hindu organizations to oppose these actions.

Raja also took aim at Udhayanidhi Stalin for his comments about eradicating Sanatana Dharma, suggesting that his current Murugan conference is more of a political manoeuvre than a sincere spiritual effort. He called on Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, who is currently on a family trip to America, to address these issues and noted Stalin’s failed attempts to raise funds in Dubai. Raja further accused senior Tamil Nadu ministers, such as Duraimurugan and K.N. Nehru, of being under Udhayanidhi’s influence and criticized the Tamil Nadu government for catering to anti-Hindu sentiments. He also questioned Ponmudi’s competence, criticizing him for allegedly being unaware of corruption involving fake Aadhaar cards among professors in higher education.

Raja criticized Ponmudi, questioning his authority to make decisions about education policy. Raja asked,“Who is Ponmudi to decide that? Shouldn’t the student who studies and the family decide, or should the Dravidian stock looters that, too under a case, decide?”. He cited reports of a sitting MP being fined 900 crores, calling it a reflection of the corruption associated with the Dravidian movement. Raja accused Ponmudi of being notoriously corrupt and incompetent as a minister. He pointed out a troubling situation reported by the Anna University Vice Chancellor, “among the 294 engineering colleges, 980 faculties have faked Aadhar cards. In a college, there can be 11 faculties, but can a faculty member be in 11 colleges like that? Corrupt individuals such as Ponmudi, who is incompetent, clueless, and incapable of taking care of his department. Who are you to decide that?” Raja questioned Ponmudi.

Raja also challenged Ponmudi to address the teaching of Sanskrit and Hindi at a school managed by M.K. Stalin’s daughter in Velachery, Chennai. Raja said, “If Ponmudi has a spine, let him shut down the Velachery Sunshine School that teaches Sanskrit and Hindi. Your leader Karunanidhi brought Samacheer Kalvi, won’t you implement it at Stalin daughter’s school? That means you yourself are not respecting Karunanidhi.” Hence, Raja declared them as masqueraders.

He also questioned the implementation of balanced education in the family-run CBSE schools of TR Baalu and Arcot Veeraswami. Raja argued that students and their parents should have the freedom to choose their language studies without state imposition.

Finally, He also remarked on the journalists’ role in asking questions without imposing opinions and supported the notion that education should remain under central government control due to its role in funding institutions like IITs and medical colleges.

DMK Student’s Wing To Project “Tamil Pride And Culture” Across Campuses In TN

DMK Student's Wing To Project "Tamil Pride And Culture" Across Campuses In TN

Tamil Student Council (TMC), the student wing of DMK, will project Tamil culture and pride across campuses in the southern state. According to sources, the student body is being relaunched to commemorate the centenary celebrations of DMK leader M. Karunanidhi.

According to senior DMK leaders, the Tamil Student Council will conduct discussions, debates, and elocution contests on Dravidian culture and pride. Scholars of the Dravidian movement will attend workshops on Dravidian culture.

According to sources in the DMK, Youth Welfare and Sports Development Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, the president of the DMK youth wing, is the brain behind the move.

While on the outside DMK is projecting Tamil culture and pride, within the party its leaders are trying to wield their influence among the youth and students of the state.

Sources in DMK told IANS that while initially only arts and science colleges would be in focus, the functioning of the student body will later be extended to professional colleges, including government and private medical colleges.

DMK student wing Secretary C.V.M.P. Ezhilarasan told media persons that the idea is to project the student body in 720 college campuses across the state, not just for political mileage but also to develop interest among the students in the culture and pride of Tamil Nadu and the Tamil people.

The Tamil Students Council will enrol a minimum of 100 students from each campus, and it plans to have 72,000 members from the state’s 720 campuses.

DMK Organising Secretary R.S. Bharathi told IANS that Karunanidhi had taken the initiative to install a student body in Thiruvarur during the early days of his political career, and the DMK is trying to remould the campuses by holding debates and discussions on Dravidian culture and pride. It may be noted that a significant churning is taking place in the DMK, with many of its district units already making suggestions to catapult Chief Minister M.K. Stalin’s son, Udhayanidhi Stalin, as the Deputy Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.

Political observers note that the DMK has launched this initiative to counter the influence of actor Vijay and BJP leader Annamalai among youngsters in Tamil Nadu.

What TNM’s Dhanya Rajendran Will Not Tell You About Her Bestie, Malayalam Actress Rima Kallingal

Malayalam film star and award winner Rima Kallingal who rose to fame with her performance in 22 Female Kottayam is back in the news. Singer Suchitra has made serious allegations against Rima Kallingal and her husband, Aashiq Abu. In a recent interview on the SS Buzz YouTube Channel, Suchitra claimed that Rima had been hosting frequent parties at her home where drugs are widely used by attendees of all genders.

Suchitra accused Rima Kallingal of organizing these drug-fueled gatherings and suggested that many young women are being introduced to drug use at these events. She also stated that the decline in Rima Kallingal’s career can be attributed to her parties. “Certain things should never be allowed at a party, even if attended by adults. I was deeply shocked to learn about Rima Kallingal’s involvement in such activities,Suchitra remarked.

Rima Kallingal & Aashiq Abu

Kallingal married Abu in 2013. Back in 2015, Abu and Kallingal were allegedly linked to a then-recently busted cocaine case. They both denied any involvement, but the rumours connecting them to the case escalated after the arrest of actor Shine Tom Chacko for cocaine consumption and possession. Although no specific names were initially mentioned, social media memes hinted at Aashiq’s alleged drug use, and sections of the vernacular media reported that the Kerala Police could question Aashiq, Rima, and actor Fahadh Faasil regarding the case.

Fundraiser corruption

The Kochi Music Foundation (KMF) organized a charity concert calledKarunaon 1 November 2019 to raise funds for flood relief in Kerala. However, more than three months after the event, the Foundation has not yet deposited the collected funds into the Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund (CMDRF), as promised. This was confirmed by the state’s finance department, which responded to an RTI query stating that no donation from the Kochi Music Foundation had been received in connection with the concert. One of the main organizers, Bijibal, acknowledged the delay, explaining that they planned to remit the funds by March 31, 2020. Despite the event being hailed as a significant success, with substantial revenue generated from ticket sales, the delay in transferring the funds has raised concerns and criticism. The event was organized by KMF, which included Aashiq Abu, his wife and actress Rima Kallingal, singer Shahbaz Aman, and music director Bijibal.

Ernakulam MP Hibi Eden publicly questioned whether Aashiq Abu had made the payment. In response, Abu posted an image of a cheque for Rs 6.22 lakh dated 14 February 2020, after the controversy had surfaced. Eden accused Abu of issuing the cheque only due to the backlash. Rima Kallingal, a key member of the KMF, was indirectly implicated due to her involvement with the Foundation.

Hypocrisy In Outraging To Harassment Cases

Rima Kallingal’s hypocrisy in choosing cases to outrage is mindblowing. Here, we explore two cases where Kallingal’s hypocrisy is blatantly exposed.

Working With Vinayakan

Kallingal & Abu produced a film in 2020, which happened to be the directorial debut of actor Vinakayan. Vinayakan was accused of sexual harassment. It was reported that Vinayakan denied the allegation, was arrested a few weeks later and released on bail immediately.

The case was then twisted into a caste issue, and the lady who accused him of harassment went on to support the film. The News Minute reported this statement – I recognise that those who are now speaking against Vinayakan becoming a director are displaying casteism. In Indian cinema, world cinema, and Malayalam cinema, there are several accused and those who committed crimes going about their profession. The people have also accepted it. Since I see it as caste discrimination to say that Vinayakan alone should not be allowed to direct, I wish to express my view that the attempts to prevent the actor from becoming a director are not in line with the Ambedkarite in me. Aashiq Abu is from the Muslim community, which is facing othering in India. So are the Dalits in India. I see Vinayakan and Aashiq Abu coming together as also Dalit-Muslim brotherhood,Mrudula added.

Kallingal and Abu faced criticism for their decision to work with actor Vinayakan, especially after the sexual harassment accusations came out. Critics question how Rima, a member of the Women in Cinema Collective (WCC), could support this while the WCC has condemned others for working with actor Dileep, accused in a high-profile assault case.

Working With Sajin Babu – Named In Hema Committee Report

Director Sajin Babu worked with Kallingal for his film Theatre at the time when his name appeared in the Hema Committee Report. She hasn’t issued any statement in this regard.

It’s the WCC themselves who have called for a zero tolerance policy to sexual harassment across the industry. However, they do not seem to have applied their standards consistently to all alleged perpetrators.

Rima Kallingal & Dhanya Rajendran – Partners In Crime?

It is worth mentioning that Rima Kallingal, along with a few other members of the WCC, such as Parvathy Thiruvothu, are besties of The News Minute editor Dhanya Rajendran. Her reportage of incidents involving Rima Kallingal or her hypocrisy is questionable. The issue involving Vinayakan became twisted, and the film that could have been shelved did not see any hindrance, mainly because of the harassment case.

The drug allegations from 2015, the corruption charges in the post-2018 Kerala floods fundraiser, and now the claims made by Suchitra are met with radio silence from the self-proclaimed champion of women’s rights and messiah of victims – Dhanya Rajendran.

A mere glance at Kallingal’s Instagram page will tell you how close the duo is:

It will be interesting to see what kind of denial Kallingal gives to Suchitra’s accusations and how Rajendran buttresses her friend’s case.

Viral Videos Uncover Aavin Milk Scandal: Water Adulteration And Theft Lead To Salary Suspension Of Whistleblower In Madurai

Amidst ongoing controversies surrounding irregularities at Aavin, Tamil Nadu’s state-operated milk company, a recent incident has sparked outrage in Madurai. An official inspection revealed a video, which went viral, showing a man mixing water into Aavin milk cans during transport.

In the Sathamangalam area of Madurai, Aavin procures 1.93 lakh litres of milk daily from the surrounding region to supply to Madurai city and its outskirts. Recently, there has been a notable increase in complaints about the quality of Aavin milk packets, with allegations of water being added to the milk.

In response, Justin John Devasakayam, an extension officer at Aavin in Chellambatti, inspected after receiving numerous complaints about the milk quality. During a surprise visit, he discovered that a transport vendor was adulterating the milk by adding water to the cans before delivery. Devasakayam recorded the incident and released the video, which went viral and showed him confronting the situation and calling for police intervention to address the corruption affecting dairy farmers.

In the video, he confronted the driver, asking, “What are you doing? Get down from the vehicle,” the officer ordered while the driver was mixing water into the milk cans. Then the officer pointed fingers at the driver and said, “He is Koppampatti DMC’s driver. There have been many complaints from people that the milk lacks quality and quantity. Today, we came and checked. We found that they parked the vehicle in a society (milk booth), filled water in the bucket, and poured it into the milk can.” The extension officer shouted madly, asking, “Why did he pour water in the can?”

The driver replied, “Based on his friend’s instruction, he did. ” Then, the officer instructed another individual to call the police to the scene.

Following his expose, Devasakayam faced repercussions, including the suspension of his salary, after he revealed the irregularities and accused higher authorities of complicity. Devasakayam stated, “My salary has been suspended despite my commitment to addressing irregularities and working for the benefit of both milk producers and consumers. Last month’s and this month’s salaries were withheld. Before joining the firm, I had a depo that I transferred to another entity (not owned by me or sold). They appear to have used this timing to target me with a summons/memo.”

In addition to the officer’s viral video, another video showed Aavin milk packets being transported to a secluded location for illicit activities. The video uncovered several irregularities, including the theft of milk packets, incomplete trays, and broken packets not replaced by authorities. Additionally, it revealed that diesel fuel was being stolen from the transport vehicles, further fueling the controversy.

The dairy department has been urged to take appropriate action. Officials confirmed that water was indeed being mixed with milk during transportation from Aavin’s Koppampatti factory to Madurai, resulting in the confiscation of the adulterated milk.
