Petrol Bomb Hurled At Trichy Krishna Temple, Attack Reportedly Filmed For Reels; Keshav & Mubith Arrested, One Absconding

A disturbing incident of petrol bomb being hurled at a Krishna temple in Trichy in the middle of the night, followed by the attack being filmed and circulated on social media as a reel, has triggered concern in the city.

As reported in Dinamalar, the incident took place at the Krishna Temple in Palakkarai around midnight on August 11. Two petrol bombs were allegedly hurled at the temple, causing the temple wall to catch fire. A handcart parked near the temple was also engulfed in flames and damaged.

The incident was subsequently filmed and the video was circulated on social media, bringing the attack to wider attention.

After seeing the video circulating online, a 50-year-old resident of the Bells Ground area, identified as Feroz Khan, lodged a complaint with the Palakkarai police.

Based on the complaint, police registered a case and intensified their investigation.

Two Arrested, One More Sought

The investigation led to the arrest of two men from Palakkarai: Kesavabushan, 19, and Mubeeth, 18 who police allege were involved in the petrol bomb attack on the temple.

Police are also searching for a third person identified as Prem, 22. According to the police, Prem allegedly recorded the incident and subsequently circulated the footage on social media, where it was widely shared.

The incident has raised concerns because of the apparent attempt to turn an attack on a place of worship into social-media content.

The motive behind the attack has not been disclosed by police. Polimer News reports that the duo were under the influence of ganja.
