After spending months and repeating the statement that the DMK is TVK’s political enemy and winning the elections by pitching the DMK as its adversary, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay has once again apologized in the Assembly.
This time, he apologized on behalf of Forest Minister Ranjith Kumar after the minister referred to former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi by name without using the customary reference “former Chief Minister” while speaking in the House, as reported in Dinamani.
The incident occurred when Ranjith Kumar was speaking during the Assembly proceedings. Referring to the DMK’s allegations over electoral cash distribution, the minister said, “From the Thirumangalam Formula to 2026, the DMK member has been listing out everything from the scheme of giving money for votes to Karunanidhi. In 2026, our Chief Minister has come to power without giving even a single rupee for votes.”
The minister’s reference to Karunanidhi without the prefix “former Chief Minister” drew an objection in the House. Following this, the Speaker announced that the reference to the former Chief Minister would be expunged from the Assembly records.
Subsequently, Chief Minister Vijay apologised on behalf of Ranjith Kumar for referring to Karunanidhi by name.
Speaking before his announcement under Rule 110, Vijay said, “It was wrong to speak by mentioning that leader’s name [without honorifics]. On his behalf, I apologize.”

This is not the first time he apologised for not using the honorifics.
‘Sorry, Sorry Not Karunanidhi, Kalaignar’
In June 2026, speaking in the Assembly, speaking about Tamil Thai Vazhthu, he said, “Regarding the Governor’s address, the opposition claimed it was wrong to sing the National Anthem after the Tamil Thai Vazhthu, and wrong to sing the National Anthem twice, arguing that such a thing had never happened in this Assembly before and that the convention had been altered. To those opposition members, those self-styled fighters for state rights and guardians of convention, I have just one question: Do you remember August 2, 2021? It was the centenary celebration of the Tamil Nadu Legislature, an event where the Honorable President unveiled the portrait of our former Chief Minister, Karunanidhi… sorry sorry, Kalaignar.”
He once again apologised for saying his real name, “Sorry, sorry for that…”
