The supplementary charge sheet that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is set to submit to a special court in Kolkata regarding the RG Kar rape and murder case will focus on specific issues, while shedding light on the broader conspiracy behind the heinous crime, sources familiar with the investigation have revealed.
The CBI recently informed the special court that it would be submitting the supplementary charge sheet soon, which will address the tampering and altering of evidence in the case. Officials are working to ensure that it is filed before the next Supreme Court hearing, scheduled for 17 March. According to sources, the supplementary charge sheet will focus on several critical aspects, with the first being the final report from the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL).
This report raises doubts about the “actual scene of the crime.” The body of the victim, a junior doctor, was found in a seminar hall at the RG Kar premises on the morning of 9 August last year. However, the CFSL report specifically mentions that there was no evidence of a scuffle in the seminar room, suggesting that it may not have been the actual crime scene. It raises the possibility that the body was placed there after the rape and murder took place elsewhere.
The second key issue that may be highlighted will be the CCTV footage available to investigators. The analysis of the footage suggests a possible connection to the larger conspiracy, particularly regarding the tampering and altering of evidence. The third issue will focus on the analysis of mobile SIM card data, especially from the former and controversial principal of RG Kar, Sandip Ghosh, and the former SHO of Tala Police Station, Abhijit Mondal. The fourth point concerns the questionable arrangement of the victim’s personal belongings in the seminar hall, which again casts doubt on whether it was truly the scene of the crime.
Earlier this week, the victim’s parents travelled to New Delhi to meet with CBI Director Praveen Sood, expressing concerns over the slow progress of the investigation by the agency. “We had a patient hearing with the CBI Director for about an hour. He urged us to remain patient and assured us of justice. We trust his assurance. We also consulted with our counsel, Karuna Nundy, regarding the strategy for the upcoming Supreme Court hearing,” the victim’s father told the media.

India is emerging as the new factory of the world and as a land of infinite innovations, said Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 1 March 2025. Speaking at a media event, the Prime Minister noted that the “world is keenly watching 21st-century India” to learn and understand how the country is able to manufacture from semiconductors to aircraft carriers.
From long being known as the back office, “India is now becoming the new factory of the world”, the PM said, adding that the country “is not just a workforce but a world-force”. He highlighted that the country, which once imported many products, is now “emerging as a major export hub” — from turmeric to coffee, to millets and makhana (fox nuts). India’s mobile phones, Defence, and electronic products, and medicines are also gaining global recognition, he said.
PM Modi noted that farmers, who were once limited to local markets, are now reaching global markets with their produce. He said this citing the increasing global demand for Pulwama’s snow peas, Maharashtra’s Purandar figs, and Kashmir’s cricket bats. “India’s Defence products showcase the strength of Indian engineering and technology to the world,” the PM said. “From electronics to the automobile sector, the world has witnessed India’s scale and capability. “India is not only providing products to the world but is also becoming a trusted and reliable partner in the global supply chain,” he said.
PM Modi further mentioned that due to “years of hard work and systematic policy decisions” India is now leading several global initiatives. This includes the recent AI Action Summit in France, where India was the co-host and will now take on the responsibility of hosting it; the successful G-20 summit during its presidency, where the India-Middle East-Europe Corridor was introduced as a new economic route.
The PM mentioned that India has given a “strong voice to the Global South and prioritised the interests of island nations”. The country has also undertaken initiatives to address the global climate crisis, with the Mission LiFE vision; the International Solar Alliance, and the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure. “The land that gave the world the concept of zero, is now becoming the land of infinite innovations,” said the Prime Minister, while highlighting how India is creating solutions that are affordable, accessible, and adaptable.
This includes a secure and cost-effective digital payment system via the UPI (Unified Payments Interface) system, and vaccines during the deadly Covid-19 pandemic. He also highlighted India’s prowess in sectors like automobile, space and emerging technologies such as AI. “India is moving forward with the resolve to become a developed nation in the next 25 years,” said PM Modi.

The Hindu Munnani has filed a case against Damodharan Prakash, a Dravidian journalist from ‘Nakkheeran’, for making derogatory and inflammatory remarks during a private media interview. In the interview, Prakash, with apparent malice, claimed that “priests pee near the Lingam, which devotees drink as Theertham (holy water).”
The two-bit Dravidianist journalist also derogated Triveni Sangam waters of Prayagraj and Prime Minister Narendra Modi saying “During bathing, if urine comes, where will Narendra Modi go? He’ll go in Triveni Sangam only right? Someone else will drink that water right? It goes inside another person’s mouth right? How is the bacteria present in faeces found there? Only if someone had defecated there, it will come right?”
This hateful speech, which attacked Hindus, desecrated the sanctity of temples, and insulted priests, went viral, sparking widespread anger and distress. As a result, the Hindu Munnani lodged a formal complaint with the Chennai Metropolitan Commissioner.
Hindu Munnani’s Chennai City Secretary Siva Vijayan submitted the complaint, condemning Nakkheeran Prakash’s remarks, which were made with a perverted mindset and malicious intent, severe action to be taken against him.

Anaithu Palli Parent Teachers Association which is being called as ‘APPA’ App by DMK government was launched by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on 22 February 2025 in the presence of School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi.
The app they say is intended to bridge the communication gap between parents, teachers, and the administration to enhance the educational experience.
The DMK government has named the app “APPA” in an attempt to brand MK Stalin as ‘Appa’ akin to how Jayalalithaa was fondly called ‘Amma’ by Tamil people.
When a reporter asked Annamalai about the ‘APPA’ app, Annamalai said “It’s not APPA brother. It is APPaTA. If you look at it, it won’t come as ‘APPA’. If you abbreviate it correctly it will come as ‘APPaTA’. They made it half-Tamil, half-English to make it ‘APPA’ app. Look at the fraud being done here. It’s actually ‘APPaTA’ app.”
The BJP Tamil Nadu President went on to say that the app is being used to swindle money.
“Those who run schools say that this has been started to extort money. Before 2021, CBSE schools had to renew their permissions only once in 3 years. After DMK came to power, they made it once every year. That’s why the Central Government has removed the need for permission from State Government. You’re extorting ₹5 lakh, ₹10 lakh, ₹15 lakh for permission. Why should they give you?”, Annamalai said.
Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Derek O’Brien who is known for being a loudmouth and has often been slammed by the Chair in Parliament, has stirred controversy by praising Pastor Stan Swamy, who was accused of anti-national activities and supporting separatism in connection with the Elgar Parishad-Maoist links case. Speaking at Loyola College’s centenary celebrations, O’Brien encouraged students and faculty to defend their legacy and speak truth to power. In a symbolic gesture, he removed his outer shirt to reveal a T-shirt with an image of Pastor Stan Swamy, urging everyone, “Don’t shy away from your legacy. Celebrate Fr. Stan Swamy.”
At the event, TMC MP Derek O’Brien praised Pastor Stan Swamy, saying, “Today happens to be World Social Justice Day, and I think it’s a great day to make a statement to tell India who the Jesuits are in modern-day India, not just history. So, ladies and gentlemen, priests, students, faculty, and sir, the moderator, I don’t want to lose my shirt. I want to take off my shirt. Do I have your permission? No, I’m not going to shock you. Don’t worry. This is a great Jesuit of our times. We salute you, Father Stan Swami.” He then revealed a T-shirt with an image of Pastor Stan Swamy, adding, “Today’s session is dedicated to Father Stan, and the first message I want to leave behind with you is when this college started there were 75 students now there are 10,000 students don’t be shy of your legacy. Father Stan was from Tamil Nadu he went to Jamshedpur and I say this to the students, I say this to the faculty but most of all I say say this to the Jesuit priests themselves you are doing such a wonderful job but celebrate father Stan Swami. What are you scared off. We must.”
He was also seen conducting a quiz and distributing T-shirts featuring an image of Pastor Stan Swamy to the audience.
Who Is Stan Swamy?
Pastor Stan Swamy, also known as Stan Lourduswamy, was an 83-year-old Jesuit priest and activist born in Trichy, Tamil Nadu. Later becoming a Roman Catholic priest in the Jesuit order, Swamy was deeply influenced by the principles of ‘Liberation Theology’, which integrates Marxism and historical materialism into theology. Liberation theology asserts that societal justice can only be achieved by dismantling private property and redistributing wealth created through human labor, even if this requires revolutionary tactics.
Swamy’s work spanned various countries, including the Philippines, Brazil, and the Indian Social Institute (ISI) in Bangalore, before he moved to the tribal regions of Jharkhand. Throughout his career, he was involved in activism, including protests, demonstrations, and supporting ideologies rooted in both Liberation Theology and Maoism.
According to human rights activist Xavier Dias, Swamy’s exposure to political activism began while studying in the Philippines during the 1970s, a time marked by widespread protests against the government. During further studies in Brussels, Swamy became acquainted with Brazilian Archbishop Helder Camara, a prominent figure known for his militant stance such as ‘Pro-Nazi’. Swamy formed a close bond with Camara, drawing influence from his ideas and ideological outlook.
In 1965, Swamy joined St. Xavier’s High School in Lupungutu, Chaibasa, West Singhbhum (now part of Jharkhand) for his regency, a stage during Jesuit formation where trainees undergo practical work in their third and fourth years. Swamy spent two years engaged in the Jesuit order’s activities. In the 1970s, he moved to the Philippines for theological studies and a Master’s in Sociology.
After returning to the Jesuit Jamshedpur Province in 1971, Swamy became the director of Catholic Relief Services in the region. He also served as the director of the Jesuit-run Indian Social Institute (ISI) in Bangalore from 1975 to 1986. During his tenure, several publications and books produced by ISI were accused of presenting biased portrayals of India, and the institute’s campus was reportedly used by extremist groups. For instance, the Popular Front of India (PFI), a banned organization deemed extremist, was allowed to hold events and conferences at ISI.
In 2011, the Kerala Police filed a charge sheet against PFI members in connection with the brutal attack on Professor T.J. Joseph, who had his hand severed over religious differences. In 2010, the Kerala Police also seized bombs, weapons, and documents related to Taliban and Al-Qaeda propaganda from PFI activists. Furthermore, the Kerala government informed the High Court in 2012 that the PFI was implicated in 27 murders, labeling the group as a resurgence of the banned Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI).
Despite these serious allegations, in 2019, the Indian Social Institute continued to permit PFI activities on its premises. In October 2019, ISI hosted a “Dalit-Muslim Dialogue” led by PFI leaders such as General Secretary Mohammed Ali Jinnah and Secretary Anis Ahmed.
A Key Conspirator In Elgar Parishad Case 2017
The NIA uncovered 140 emails from Stan Swamy’s account that revealed his connections with urban Naxals. In these emails, Swamy discussed plans to recruit individuals and provide them with armed training.
According to the NIA’s chargesheet, one of the letters written by Swamy himself stated, “An all-India front won’t be effective. It should not only serve as propaganda against fascist forces at the ground level but also launch a major offensive against them. The front should operate at the village, small town, and city levels, organizing militant sections of the population in urban areas.”
Swamy further wrote, “From the outset, we should unite Dalit and Muslim forces already forming in various parts of the country. For instance, Dalit forces are emerging in Tamil Nadu and Gujarat, while Muslim minority groups in Kerala, Karnataka, and Maharashtra are engaging in militant actions against Dalit and religious minority groups, fueled by organized Hindutva forces. These groups aim to seek training by aligning with revolutionary movements.”
After reviewing all the evidence, the court rejected Swamy’s bail plea, emphasizing that the collective interest of society outweighed his right to personal liberty. The judge noted, “The applicant’s old age and/or alleged health issues will not favor his release, as the broader public interest must take precedence.”
Special Judge DE Kothalikar, in his ruling, stated, “The material presented shows that the applicant was not only a member of the banned organization CPI (Maoist) but also actively worked to advance the group’s objective of overthrowing the nation’s democracy.”
The evidence suggests that Swamy was engaged in a dual agenda: publicly advocating for the conversion of indigenous Hindu tribals to Christianity while covertly working to recruit them into Maoist activities. His actions aimed to keep India’s Hindu land in a state of unrest and conflict, under the guise of helping tribal communities.
Objective 1: Overt – Convert tribals to Christianity while stationed in Jharkhand, establishing churches in tribal regions.
Objective 2: Covert – Recruit tribals for Maoist terrorism, maintaining a state of perpetual turmoil and conflict in Hindu-majority areas.
Objective 3: Overthrow any Indian government that does not align with Christian or Communist ideologies.
The NIA’s report concludes that Stan Swamy was a member of the banned Communist Party of India (Maoist) and played an active role in advancing the group’s goal of destabilizing the nation. The conspiracy he was involved in aimed to create widespread unrest and overthrow the government.
What Does NIA’s Charge Sheet Say?
The NIA chargesheet, spanning over 10,000 pages, identifies Stan Swamy as a member of the banned Communist Party of India (Maoist) and alleges his involvement in a conspiracy to incite caste violence during the Bhima Koregaon incident on 1 January 2018. In 2018, the Bombay High Court also described the violence linked to the Elgar Parishad and Bhima Koregaon as a “deep-rooted” conspiracy with “extremely serious repercussions.” This conclusion was based on substantial evidence against the accused.
Swamy was reportedly in contact with Comrade Arun, a CPI-Maoist cadre, and communicated concerns about the significant damage the party suffered following the arrest of urban Maoist cadres across the country, particularly in Maharashtra. The charges also reveal that Swamy received Rs 8 lakh from Comrade Mohan to support CPI-Maoist activities. Additionally, Swamy served as the convener of the Persecuted Prisoners Solidarity Committee (PPSC), a front organization for the Maoists.
The NIA further claims that Swamy had plans to organize a front to challenge the Modi government, using armed militias. Among the materials recovered from him were documents detailing the 50-year history of the Naxalbari movement, CPI-Maoist press releases, and circulars from the central committee. Also found were encrypted communications guides, letters about mobilizing Adivasi communities, and documents relating to strategies for the Indian revolution and the tactics of the People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA).
One of the letters instructed leaders of the Scheduled Castes (SC) to act with a principle of “no rest, no negligence, and no mercy” and to disrupt the BJP-RSS’s propaganda about development. The letter also emphasized the goal of preventing the BJP from gaining influence among tribal and lower-middle-class populations. On the international front, the document noted disruptions in communication with global Maoist parties due to the absence of key figures like Rona Wilson and Sai Baba. Operations in Sri Lanka and Nepal were also said to be affected, with the central committee assigning a comrade the responsibility of coordinating international solidarity programs, ensuring security training for all involved.
The chargesheet further reveals plans to avoid using the term “anti-fascist” in public campaigns to prevent negative reactions. The NIA also cites a letter from wanted accused Milind Teltumbde (Com M) to another accused, Ron Wilson, which mentions providing monetary support to Sudhir Dhawale and outlines his role in these activities.
NIA’s Arrest & Declaration
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) asserted that Swamy was a key conspirator in the 2017 Elgar Parishad case, which led to violence, stone-pelting, and arson at Shaniwar Wada in Pune. He was arrested on 8 October and presented before a Special Court in Mumbai the following day. Notably, he was not placed in police custody but was instead remanded to judicial custody at Taloja Central Jail. The NIA confirmed that all required legal procedures, including his medical examination, were carried out.
The NIA described Swamy as a “hard-core CPI (Maoist) activist” who allegedly received funds from other Maoist groups to support the activities of the banned organization. Furthermore, the agency stated that Swamy was the convenor of the PPSC and that incriminating documents related to the promotion of CPI (Maoist) activities were found in his possession.

In a significant political announcement, political strategist and Jan Suraj Party leader Prashant Kishor has confirmed that Tamil actor Vijay’s political outfit, Tamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK), will contest the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections independently, without forming an alliance with any major party.
Tamil actor and part-time politician Vijay, the chief of Tamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK), marked his party’s first anniversary with a grand public meeting in Mahabalipuram. The event was attended by political strategist and Jan Suraj Party leader Prashant Kishor. The meeting also hinted at a strategic shift in TVK’s approach as it prepares to challenge the state’s dominant Dravidian parties.
In an exclusive interview with Thanthi TV, Kishor confirmed that TVK will contest the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections independently, without forming an alliance with any major party. He further stated that despite AIADMK’s willingness to forge an alliance with TVK, Vijay has decided to go solo in the upcoming elections. He emphasized that the party’s strategy is to establish itself as a formidable force in Tamil Nadu politics without relying on traditional alliances.
“Vijay’s TVK will not form an alliance with AIADMK or any other party in the 2026 elections. The strategy is clear—TVK will contest alone and aim to form the government on its own,” said Kishor during the interview.

He also claimed that Vijay has a huge fan following in Bihar.
“He (Vijay) has committed to help me in Bihar as well. Well he has a large following in Bihar.”, Prashant Kishor said.
Prashant Kishor, who recently joined TVK as an advisor ahead of the state assembly elections, has been closely working with Vijay on campaign strategies. Earlier this month, he visited the actor at his residence to brainstorm plans for the upcoming elections. His presence at the party’s first-anniversary event further solidified his role in shaping TVK’s political roadmap.
This announcement comes amid growing speculation about TVK’s electoral strategy, as the party seeks to position itself as a formidable alternative to the established Dravidian parties, DMK and AIADMK.

A 21-year-old woman residing in Kerala’s Kasargod was shocked when her husband sent a “talaq, talaq, talaq” message on WhatsApp to her father. Abdul Razzaq’s message had the words “talaq” being repeated three times, signalling that his marriage with the man’s daughter was over.
Razzaq, who works in the UAE, sent the message on February 21. Triple talaq is a form of divorce in Islam that allows a Muslim man to divorce his wife by saying “talaq” three times. Incidentally, the practice was declared void and unconstitutional by the Supreme Court in 2017. In 2019, Parliament passed the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act, which made triple talaq a criminal offence. Razzaq, who also hails from Kasargod, married the woman in August 2022 when she was 18. The woman said that Razzaq had been demanding money and he had taken her to UAE once.
“Often he has been demanding money and I am shocked by what he has done. I think he has the mentality to doubt me. I want justice and we will file a case,” said the wife of Razzaq. Meanwhile, the woman’s father said the money was sent to Razzaq and he has documents to prove it. “After getting the money, Razzaq sent the triple talaq message. There is a procedure for talaq involving the role of elders and religious people. This is not the way,” said the woman’s father.
The money was sent to Razzaq so that he would take his wife to the UAE. “To raise the money, the woman’s gold ornaments were sold and the money was sent,” he added. She was to travel to the UAE on February 24, but the triple talaq message was received on February 21. The woman’s family has approached the local police and complained against Razzaq for cheating her.

Kollywood actor and BJP leader Sarathkumar recently mocked part-time politician and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagham chief Vijay over his recent political remarks using his own rhetoric. Vijay had celebrated the first anniversary of his political party alongside strategist Prashant Kishor and executives, while also making hypocritical statements about the Three Language Policy and mocking the social media clash between the BJP and DMK.
At an equality banquet organized by the BJP in Perambalur, Sarathkumar, who presided over the event, responded to Vijay’s recent remarks. He criticized Vijay for misleading his followers by spreading narratives that the central government was not providing rightful funds to the state. Sarathkumar also took issue with Vijay’s use of colloquial phrases like “sambavam seithargal,” which translates to serious crimes or murders, advising him to speak responsibly and avoid misguiding his supporters. He said, “What he says is, ‘They (DMK) will ask for funds, but they (BJP) will deny, playing with hashtags, while our boys meddled inside and did a Sambhavam (incident).’ I was shocked, wondering what kind of ‘sambhavam’ they were referring to because in cinema, ‘Sambhavam’ means violence or murder. The reason I’m saying this is that one should be mindful when speaking. Dear brother Vijay, you should be more thoughtful while talking.” He continued, “Be thoughtful when speaking. Speak the truth. Don’t use your popularity to mislead the people of the state.”
Sarathkumar then mocked Vijay’s stance against Hindi, pointing out the irony of Vijay associating with Prashant Kishor, a Hindi-speaking political strategist, for his upcoming election campaign. He called out Vijay’s hypocrisy, asking, “Who is he? Prashant Kishor doesn’t know Hindi, right? You need someone who knows Hindi to come and teach you how to formulate a political strategy, right. Who are you people da? Whom are you fooling?” Sarathkumar mimicked Vijay’s own tone, saying, “What, bro? Why, bro?”
Further mocking Kishor, Sarathkumar pointed out that Kishor had lost his own election deposit but now have come to help Vijay win, just as he had helped the DMK in the past. He sarcastically added that this was their “big plan” — to make Vijay the next winner with the same strategy that had already helped the DMK.

Serial molester and a Dravidianist poet who romanticizes pedophilia was platformed at a DMK event commemorating MK Stalin’s birthday. Ironically, DMK MP Sumathy alias Thamizhachi Thangapandian who fashions herself as a champion of women empowerment was seated next to the ‘Me Too’ accused Dravidianist poet. Sumathy (Thamizhachi), the DMK MP, recently made headlines for throwing a tantrum on social media after being downgraded from Business Class to Premium Economy on a taxpayer-funded Air India flight—an incident that earned her the moniker ‘Marie Antoinette’ of Tamil Nadu.
The Maduravoyal South unit of DMK’s South Chennai district organized the ‘Kaviyarangam’ event, a poetry exchange gathering, to hail MK Stalin. Sumathy (Thamizhachi) who also considers herself to be a poet participated along with Vairamuthu who has been accused of sexual harassment by multiple women.
This is not the first time that the Sumathy (Thamizhachi) Thangapandian has shared stage with the serial molester.
Earlier in November 2023, she was singing paeans about the Dravidianist poet at an event honouring the late Karunanidhi.
In that meeting DMK MP Sumathy (Thamizhachi) said “After seeing ‘Kaviperarasu (referring to Vairamuthu) as being the highlight of this event, this is what I felt. This is black-red gathering. I am red. He is black. Both of us always are in black-red… I’m bit jealous of majestically black poet.”
In February 2020, she shared stage with him at MGR – Janaki Women’s Arts and Science College for a Thirukkural event.
She also stood beside him during the launch of his book ‘Thamizhaatrupadai’ in August 2019.
Not just Sumathy (Thamizhachi) but many DMK leaders including MK Stalin himself has platformed the poet on multiple occasions.
In January 2024, Vairamuthu attended a book launch event of DMK MP TR Baalu in which Stalin, his half-sister and Thoothukudi DMK MP Kanimozhi were also present. Earlier that month, the CM unveiled ‘Maha Kavithai,’ a composition by #MeToo accused writer.
The DMK government also chose him to preside over Karunanidhi Centenary Celebrations at Tiruvarur in 2023. He was also included in the list of recipients under the ‘Dream House’ scheme of the DMK government, an initiative to honor writers from the state who have received national and international accolades for their literary contributions.
Vairamuthu is a Dravidianist poet who shares close ties with the DMK. He has been accused of sexual harassment by multiple women during the #MeToo movement. Around 17 women have levelled sexual harassment charges against the Dravidianist poet. Singer Suchitra has alleged that the Dravidianist DMK-supporting poet invited her to his home to make sexual advances.
In 2021, he had penned a song that romanticizes pedophilia. The song is about a school-going girl in love with a grey-haired old ‘poet’ and was filmed with actor Anika Surendran who was 16 years old at that time.
In 2018, Vairamuthu had called the woman Azhwar Andal by a ‘dasi’ (prostitute) who served at the Srirangam Ranganathaswamy Temple. “Andal herself is a Devadasi who lived and died in the Sri Rangam Temple.”, Vairamuthu had said quoting a book by one Subhash Chandra Malik.
Vairamuthu had also ridiculed Ram Janmabhoomi Temple and also raised questions about his birth.
.@rajnathsingh .@DefenceMinIndia Sir get someone who can translate this speech about Lord Rama by Vairamuthu, this is not only just Hindu bashing this speech was made in a function felicitating Kaviko Abdul Rahman hope you understand his intentions 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏 pic.twitter.com/AFVcgz5nQZ
A three-year-old girl sustained severe injuries after being allegedly sexually assaulted and brutally attacked by a 17-year-old boy near Sirkazhi in Mayiladuthurai district on 24 February 2025 afternoon. The accused, who reportedly smashed the child’s head with a stone when she tried to resist, has been arrested under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The victim is currently undergoing treatment for critical injuries at JIPMER Hospital in Puducherry.
According to police sources, the suspect, a Class 8 dropout, visited the anganwadi center attended by his relative’s children and the victim on Monday afternoon. He lured the girl, who had stepped out of the center during lunch to relieve herself, to an isolated area behind the childcare facility. There, he allegedly sexually assaulted her. When the child attempted to resist and raise an alarm, the suspect grabbed a stone and smashed her face, causing severe injuries to her head and eyes.
Mayiladuthurai Superintendent of Police G. Stalin stated that the anganwadi staff, who noticed the child was missing, found her after hearing her cries. The suspect had fled the scene by then. The girl was initially rushed to Sirkazhi General Hospital but was later referred to JIPMER Hospital in Puducherry due to her critical condition.
The All Women Police Station in Sirkazhi registered a case under Sections 6 r/w 5(m), 5(r), and 9(i) of the POCSO Act, which include charges of aggravated penetrative sexual assault and attempt to murder. The accused was arrested shortly after the incident, produced before the Juvenile Justice Board in Mayiladuthurai, and remanded to custody. He has been sent to a minor observation home in Thanjavur. Further investigations are ongoing.
Collector’s Insensitive Remarks
The incident has sparked widespread outrage, particularly after Mayiladuthurai District Collector A. Mahabharathi made controversial and insensitive remarks during a training camp on child protection under the POCSO Act. The Collector stated, “The child has also misbehaved. If you notice, according to the report I received, the child spat on the boy’s face. That may be the reason. Therefore, we are forced to look at both sides. So what should we do about this? Prevention is better than cure. Parents should be made aware of teaching such things to their children.” His comments, blaming the three-year-old victim, have drawn severe criticism.
