DMK men attack hotel run by AIADMK cadre

With the ascension of DMK to power, incidents of atrocities being committed by the party’s cadres are being reported across Tamil Nadu.

In this light, a hotel belonging to an AIADMK cadre in Nilakottai was attacked and demolished by DMK cadres.

Maayi, an AIADMK office bearer, runs a small eatery near the Nilakottai bus stand. A few DMK men had come to the hotel to eat during which they had engaged in a verbal spat with Maayi. Those at the shop tried to pacify both the groups. Later that night, the DMK men had rampaged Maayi’s hotel by razing down the roofs made of asbestos sheet. They had broken the furnitures and other properties at the hotel damaging them completely.

Maayi along with his men later lodged a complaint at the police station and laid siege in order to bring attention to his plight.

This is one of the many incidents that has been reported following the DMK’s win. Earlier, an ‘Amma Unavagam’ located in J.J Nagar near Maduravoyal, Chennai was attacked by DMK goons. An ‘Amma Mini Clinic‘ located in Avarikadu panchayat near Vedaranyam in Nagapattinam district was attacked by ‘mysterious persons’.  On May 2 immediately after the DMK’s victory was confirmed, DMK cadres in Karur ransacked a shop belonging to an AIADMK cadre causing extensive damage to the property along with a person getting injured seriously.

Bed allocation scam: ‘Four arrested so far, four others questioned’, says CCB

bed allocation scam Tejasvi Surya BBMP

On Wednesday May 5, the Central Crime Branch (CCB) confirmed the arrest of four accused for their alleged involvement in the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) bed allocation scam in Bengaluru.

Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Sandeep Patil said that two FIRs filed in the city were transferred to the CCB.

“We have arrested four accused so far. Four others are being questioned. Searches have been conducted in al eight zonal war rooms”, Patil said.

Earlier on Tuesday, DCP (South) Harish Pandey had confirmed the arrest of a social worker and her nephew for their alleged involvement in the bed allocation scam. The police team had approached them posing as the relatives of a COVID-19 patient who needed a bed.

Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya had, on May 4, alleged that a major bed allocation scam was unearthed during a surprise audit of the centralised bed allocation system, along with three BJP MLAs from South Bengaluru on Tuesday.

The ‘bed mafia’ calls up the COVID-19 patients with BU number to find out if they are asymptomatic and in home isolation. The beds are then booked against that particular BU number. These blocked beds automatically get unblocked if the patient does not turn up at the hospital within the next 12 hours. This bed is now manually re-alloted to the patients referred by the agents, who charge a hefty fee of ₹40,000 for a bed. These agents scout for patients on social media, where people are posting appeals for oxygen and ICU beds.

“During the audit, we noticed that 4,065 beds had undergone auto-unblocking. After we called up the patients against whose name the bed was initially blocked (booked), we learnt that they were all in home isolation and had never got admitted to the hospital. The BU number of a single patient in home isolation is being used to block 5-20 beds, which are then sold to other patients for a hefty sum,” Surya alleged.

Surya has now approached Infosys co-founder Nandan Nilekani to rehaul the bed allocation software and to further ensure transparency in the mechanism.

“Had a conversation with Nandan Nilekani this morning and sought his help to revamp BBMP bed allocation software. Lots of gratitude to him for putting very best tech architects on the job immediately. Yet again, Nandan Nilekani has proved he is always available for Bengaluru!” Tejasvi Surya said in a tweet.

Transgenders take to the streets to create awareness against coronavirus

The central and state governments are taking steadfast measures to control the spread of coronavirus. To help the government in its efforts, members from the transgender community danced together on the road in the suburbs of Sholinganallur in Chennai and created awareness among the public.

Their dance was based on emphasizing the need to wear masks and follow social distancing norms while stepping out of the house, in order to control the spread of corona. Hindus of Bangladesh to protest against pogrom of Hindus in West Bengal

Bangladesh Hindus West Bengal

Amid reports of widespread violence against Hindus in West Bengal, allegedly carried out by workers and supporters of the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress (TMC), the Bangladesh National Hindu Grand Alliance has announced that it will carry out a protest against the killings of Hindus.

The protest by the Hindu advocacy group will be held on May 7, 10 AM at the Dhaka Press Club.

The protestors will also burn the effigy of TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee, who on May 5 took oath as the chief minister of West Bengal for the third time.

Thousands of Hindus had fled Bangladesh to West Bengal in the aftermath of the 1971 Indo-Pakistan war, which had led to an influx of Hindu refugees in the Indian state. Thousands more had fled to India over the years, when faced with persecution in the Muslim-majority country.

Post-poll violence has ensued over the past two days across West Bengal, with reports emerging of TMC workers torching and looting offices, residences and shops owned by Hindus, killing Hindus across political lines and raping Hindu women.

Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) vowed to ‘dismantle’ the political violence in the state.

“Those who were supposed to protect others are the ones responsible for this violence. They can take the oath, everyone has the right to do so in a democracy. But we also take an oath to dismantle political violence in Bengal”, national president JP Nadda said, while addressing BJP workers.

The BJP also took an oath to “protect the Constitutional values laid down by Dr. BR. Ambedkar against the political violence going on in Bengal” and “ensure equality for everyone” in the state.

Prime minister Narendra Modi even congratulated Banerjee on her taking oath as chief minister.

Tejasvi Surya busts beds allocation scam, asks Nandan Nilekani to create software for BBMP bed allocation

Tejasvi Surya BBMP

After Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya exposed the artificial shortage of hospital beds in Bengaluru created by a nexus of Arogya Mithras stationed at various hospitals, he has now approached Infosys co-founder Nandan Nilekani to ensure transparency with regards to Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike’s (BBMP) bed allocation software.

“This team of tech architects, also assisted by technology think tank iSpirit Product Nation, will redesign the bed booking software to make it efficient, transparent and minimise manual intervention. I thank the tech volunteers for helping this cause. People of Bengaluru will be grateful to you!” he added.

Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya on Tuesday (4 May) alleged that there are enough beds in Bengaluru city but unfortunately they were running a racket of false blocking beds and then allocating them to those they please.

Surya was visibly upset and said those involved in this racket will surely face an unpleasant end themselves as they have compromised the lives of hundreds of people out of which many died due to lack of access to beds despite there being enough of them available.
