Mahua Moitra “Cash For Question Scam”: A Few Of The Questions In Question

In a stunning revelation, BJP Lok Sabha MP Nishikant Dubey levelled serious allegations against Trinamool MP Mahua Moitra saying she took cash and gifts from businessman Darshan Hiranandani to ask specific questions in the Parliament.

Based on a letter written to him by one advocate Jai Anant Dehadrai, Nishikant Dubey revealed that 50 out of 61 questions raised by TMC MP Mahua Moitra were allegedly aimed to protect and promote one company, focused on Hiranandani’s rival business conglomerates like the Adani Group.

Here are some of the questions that the TMC MP allegedly asked on behalf of the Hiranandani Group.

The first question asked by Mahua Moitra in Parliament was in July 2019 regarding Paradip Port which had targeted the MoU between Adani, GAIL, and IOC-H-Energy. It was alleged that a Hiranandani group company was an interested party as it won a bid for the Paradip natural gas pipeline. [PDF of the question]

In her inquiry directed to the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Moitra requested clarification on the events surrounding the Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL) initially entering into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Paradip Port Trust for a gas terminal, a project that was ultimately abandoned in 2015. Additionally, she inquired about the details of GAIL and the Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOC) teaming up with a private entity to secure shares in Dhamra Port, which incurred considerably higher costs compared to the Paradip Port initiative.

The ministry communicated to GAIL that they had conducted a feasibility study back in 2012 with the aim of establishing an FSRU (Floating Storage and Regasification Unit) project on the eastern coast of India. During this study, two potential locations near Dhamra Port and Paradip Port were identified as suitable options. In 2013, an MoU was formally executed with Paradip Port Trust. However, by 2015, it was determined that having two competing LNG terminals in such close proximity would not be financially viable. In 2016, a non-binding MoU was inked involving Adani Petroleum Terminal, Dhamra LNG Terminal, IOCL, and GAIL. It’s important to note that this MoU lapsed in 2018 and did not require any capital expenditure from GAIL and IOCL.

In November 2019, the firebrand MP of TMC asked a question about the service quality of telecom service providers. What must be taken into note is that a Hiranandani company named Yotta hired a Jio executive a day after the question was raised. [PDF of the question]

In her inquiry, she requested the ministry to furnish statistics related to the quality of services provided by Telecom Service Providers (TSPs) in India. Specifically, she sought this data for the preceding three years, categorized by state, Union Territory (UT), and TSP. She also inquired about historical records concerning call drop rates and the proportion of calls with satisfactory voice quality, categorized by both TSP and location.

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has been overseeing telecom service providers by enforcing Quality of Service regulations. They now evaluate the performance of Cellular Mobile Services collectively for a given License Service Area. The ministry has supplied comprehensive statistical information for the past three years.

Again in November 2019, during the winter session, Moitra asked a question regarding the handling capacity of Kolkata Port Trust. At the same time, the Hiranadani group had entered into a MoU with KPT, and therefore, it was an interested party in the matter. [PDF of the question]

She submitted a request to the Ministry of Shipping for a breakdown of the cargo volume and revenue generated by Kolkata Port Trust (KPT), categorized according to the type of cargo. Additionally, she inquired about the strategies that KPT had already implemented or planned to promote the development of the port along the Hooghly waterfront.

In response, the ministry provided information on the revenue and clarified that the conservancy jurisdiction of the Kolkata Port Trust extends up to 45.7 meters from the high-water mark during Spring Tide, although not all of this area is under the ownership of the port trust. The port trust has also established facilities in Haldia, Salukkhali, and Howrah, and it encourages private entities to utilize their riverfront land for shipbreaking activities in Kulpi.

Other questions Moitra asked allegedly Hiranandani Group are…

December 2019, she asked the Ministry of Home Affairs about the check posts alongside the India-Bangladesh border. Hiranandani Group has a significant investment in Bangladesh, making the group an alleged beneficiary in the query. [PDF of the question]

In December 2019, she raised a question regarding the agreement between a private entity, Paradip Port, and GAIL. She questioned if the CVC guidelines were followed for the tendering process and the allegations were repeated in the infamous Hindenburg report. Furthermore, the Hirandani Group has been trying to connect ports on the east coast with Bangladesh. The presence of Adani Group, the private entity, in the area hinders Hiranandani’s plans. [PDF of the question]

In March 2020, Moitra asked another question regarding Kolkata Port Trust while Hiranandani Group has an agreement with the KPT. [PDF of the question]

In February 2021, Moitra asked a question about the progress and 5G readiness in the country. Again, Hiranandani Group’s company Yotta had applied for a Global Mobile Personal Communications by Satellite license, making it an alleged direct beneficiary of the question. [PDF of the question]

In February 2021, the former Goldman Sachs employee asked a question wherein she asked the Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change about the proposed energy codes that directly impacted the construction business of the Hiranandani Group. [PDF of the question]

In July 2021, she again asked the Ministry of Finance about the Foreign Portfolio Investors (FPIs) holding stakes in Adani Group companies. That led to the SEBI investigation against the Adani Group and it has been alleged that the questions were asked at the behest of the Hiranandani Group. [PDF of the question]

In July 2021, again Moitra asked a question asking the Minister of New and Renewable Energy about the tenders of the Solar Energy Corporation. Again the question was aimed to benefit Hiranandani Group’s company, Yotta, to power data centers through renewable energy in 2020. [PDF of the question]

In July 2021, Moitra asked the Ministry of Steel about the steps taken by the government to control the prices of steel in the country. This time it has been alleged that it was for the benefit of the Hiranandani Group’s real estate business which wanted a lower steel price. [PDF of the question]

In August 2021, a question was asked by the TMC MP to the Ministry of External Affairs for information on IOC, GAIL, and H-Energy gas pipelines from West Bengal to Bangladesh. Again the Hiranandani Group conglomerate, H-Energy, was an interested party in the pipeline. [PDF of the question]

In August 2021, Moitra asked the Ministry of Civil Aviation about allocating airports to the Adani Group. Again the Hiranandani Group was also interested in airports. [PDF of the question]

As a member of Parliament, Mahua Moitra enjoys a lot of power and has the right to ask questions to the government which is important for a good democracy. However, it has now been alleged that she used her position as an MP to undermine the Adani Group in favor of the Hiranandani Group and in return she received many inducements.

Like Grandfather, Like Grandson: The Duplicity Of Karunanidhi & Udhayanidhi On Their Hindus And Hinduism Remarks

Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin was in the news for the past few weeks for his “eradicating Sanathana Dharma” remarks at a conference organised by a Dravidianist group in Chennai. He equated Sanathana Dharma to corona, dengue, malaria and said that just like how these diseases cannot be merely opposed but eradicated, Sanatana Dharma too should be eradicated.

Following the massive backlash, MK Stalin himself had asked his party leaders to refrain from making anymore statements on Sanatana Dharma. However, Udhayanidhi Stalin did not to heed his father’s advice. He had reiterated that the party (DMK) was formed with the goal of eradicating Sanathana Dharma and will continue to work towards achieving it.

He also asserted that whether the government lost power or whether he lost his minister post or his MLA post, he would have it eradicated and that DMK’s goal was to eradicate Sanathana Dharma.

A quo warranto petition was filed against him, DMK Minister Sekar Babu and DMK leader A. Raja asking on what basis they continued to be in office after hurting the sentiments of a particular community by calling for the eradication of Sanatana Dharma (Hinduism). In a hearing this week, Udhayanidhi Stalin did a U-turn and said, he made those comments on a personal capacity and not as a minister.

In an affidavit submitted to the Madras High Court court, the DMK scion said that he made the remarks in “personal capacity” and not as a Minister.

Calling out the duplicity of Udhayanidhi Stalin, Secretary of State, Tamil Nadu Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in a TV debate, SG Suryah recalled the U-turn done by Udhayanidhi’s grandfather, Karunanidhi too.

To refresh our memory, during his tenure as the leader of the DMK, Karunanidhi made several controversial statements regarding Hindus and Hinduism. One such remark in 2002, Karunanidhi referred to Hindus as ‘thieves’.

At that time, the late AIADMK supremo J. Jayalalithaa was the Chief Minister and had passed the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Forcible Conversion of Religion Act 2002.

On 24 October 2002, Karunanidhi, the then Opposition leader attended a meeting held at the Andrew’s Church in Egmore, Chennai against the ban on forced religious conversion. It was during this meeting that Karunanidhi called Hindus as thieves.

When a case was filed against him, his counter affidavit argued that the allegations were an “afterthought” and driven by political opponents, as the petitioner had initially filed the complaint in 2002 but only approached the High Court in 2005. One lawyer named R. Premnath filed a case against Karunanidhi in Egmore 14th Magistrate Court. Permission to prosecute him was also obtained from the Tamil Nadu government. The case was filed on 14 November 2003 in the XIV Municipal Magistrate Court. The case was subsequently adjourned for the hearing of witnesses.

At that time, Karunanidhi argued that all he said was that even those who supported the Hindu religion interpret the word Hindu as thief. “Maybe it means someone who steals the heart.”, he had said during the controversy.

The case was adjourned several times whenever it came up for trial. When the DMK government took office in 2006, an order was issued on 27 May 2006 to withdraw the case. After that, an appeal was filed in the Magistrate’s Court and the case was quietly dismissed.

It was later revealed that Karunanidhi was acquitted from the case and the judgment was given on 17 August 2006. The petitioner was not given an opportunity to appear and argue and no proper reason was given for the same.

Balasubramanian, identifying himself as Mr. Premnath’s legal representative, discovered on 21 May 21, 2007, that the case had been withdrawn on 17 August 2006, based on a memorandum filed by the Assistant Public Prosecutor without affording the complainant or his counsel an opportunity for a hearing.

Subsequently Balasubramanian subsequently filed a petition with the High Court, contending that the case had been withdrawn without notifying the complainant.

He emphasized that no justification had been provided for the withdrawal of the charges against Karunanidhi and requested the reinstatement of the case.

But this time too, the petitioners couldn’t appear for hearing as they were not notified. The High Court dismissed the petition on 2 October 2009, saying that the counsel did not appear. Balasubramanian, seeking to revive the petition, attempted to submit a miscellaneous petition to request a 25-day delay exemption, but the court declined the request.

Years later in 2013 when a petition was filed to direct the police to investigate the FIR on the controversial speech, Karunanidhi clarified in his counter affidavit saying that that he did not speak ill of any religious faith. In the speech in question, he mentioned that the word “Hindu” had been defined as a thief by a supporter of the religion itself.

However, he explained that he interpreted it not as an ordinary thief but as someone who “stole” the hearts of the people. He alleged that the complainant had linked it to a “truncated version” of the speech in certain newspapers, omitting the full context.

Critics question the value of grandstanding in speeches by both the grandfather and grandson, as they tend to adopt a diametrically opposite approach in legal proceedings.

Periyarist Hacks Another Periyarist With Sharp Weapons In Broad Daylight, Concerns Raised About Deteriorating Law & Order In Tamil Nadu

Feature Image Courtesy: Kamadenu

While the Tamil Nadu police is busy going after critics of the DMK and its allies, there has been rising instances of lawlessness across the state.

Recently, in Chennai, the regional secretary of Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam (TPDK) was brutally hacked with sharp weapons by associates of the Chennai district secretary of the same Periyarist organization. A disturbing video of the incident has gone viral on social media.

The victim, Kummu, also known as Kumaresan, aged 33 and hailing from Royapettah, Chennai, is the younger brother of Ganesh, the regional secretary of TPDK in Royapettah. ‘Tinker’ Kumaran, alias Kumaran, aged 45, resides in the same area, and his father holds the position of Chennai District Secretary in the TPDK. Notably, ‘Tinker’ Kumaran has a history of involvement in various criminal cases.

The violence stemmed from ongoing disputes between Kumaresan and Tinker Kumar over the past year, primarily involving financial matters and issues like littering in front of their houses. Both parties had previously filed complaints against each other at the Icehouse Police Station. It had typically resulted in both sides agreeing to settle the matter amicably.

However, a few days back when Kumaresan was walking near his residence, ‘Tinker’ Kumaran and his associates ambushed him, attacking him with knives before fleeing the scene. Kumaresan suffered severe injuries and was found lying in a pool of blood. The terrified locals then promptly alerted the Icehouse police station.Police officers arrived at the scene, rescued Kumaresan, and rushed him to Royapettah Government Hospital. Later, he was transferred to a private hospital in Thousand Lights area for further treatment. The police have registered a case in connection with the incident and are actively searching for Tinker Kumar and his accomplices, who had fled the scene.

This is not an isolated case in Tamil Nadu. Over the years and more so in the Dravida Munnetra Kazagam rule from 2021, the number of law and order-related incidents has increased. Some are listed below:

In May 2021, a chilling incident unfolded in a densely populated area as a gang of four brutally hacked a lawyer named Gopi Kannan in Trichy. The 35-year-old, who was teaching his daughter to ride a bicycle, was ambushed by unknown assailants on two-wheelers, leaving him fatally wounded.

In September 2021, a shocking incident occurred in Tamil Nadu’s Thoothukudi district, where an auto driver named Sivaperumal, aged 45, was brutally hacked to death in broad daylight by two brothers, Arumugam, 31, and Sornaraj, 28. The trio, who were acquainted and would regularly meet for drinks, engaged in a dispute during their gathering, leading to Arumugam using a concealed knife to attack Sivaperumal. Sornaraj intervened to prevent Sivaperumal from escaping, while the incident was captured on a bystander’s mobile phone.

A 36-year-old earthmover operator was hacked to death by a gang in Mayiladuthirai in November 2021.

In May 2022, S Arumugam, a 36-year-old finance company owner in Chennai, was brutally hacked to death by a four-member gang in broad daylight in Aminjikarai. The CCTV footage of the incident, where Arumugam was chased and repeatedly attacked with sharp weapons, went viral, raising concerns about the state’s law and order situation.

In another incident in May 2022, Balachandar, the head of BJP’s SC/ST wing for Central Chennai, was brutally hacked to death in the heart of the city. While conversing with friends at Saminayakan Street in Chintadripet, he was surrounded by four men, prompting him to flee for his life. However, the assailants pursued him on motorcycles and carried out the murder in public view on a busy road, raising concerns about the city’s law and order situation, with 18 murders reported in the same month that year.

In October 2022, painter Raghu was stabbed and slit his throat in a hospital after joining a rival gang. The gang leader learned of Raghu’s involvement and assaulted him at home. After escaping, Raghu sought treatment at Mettur Government Hospital. Three men followed him, stabbed him, and slit his throat. The incident had gone viral on social media and raised questions about the state of law and order in Tamil Nadu.

In November 2022, Kalikannan, the Vice President of the BJP in Tirupattur, was abducted by a gang of mercenaries who later brutally hacked him to death near Uthangarai. The incident unfolded when the men forcibly took him from his shop at knifepoint in a Scorpio car. Kalikannan had been receiving death threats for about a month, prompting him to avoid being alone, and the assailants seemed aware of this before abducting him.

In January 2023, a Hindu temple employee, Krishnan, was killed by inebriated thugs who had asked him not to drink alcohol on the premises. Krishnan, who was working at the ancient Navaneethakrishna Swamy temple, had returned home to celebrate the Pongal festival. When he returned, thugs from the same area, including the main accused Kombaiya, were drinking alcohol inside the temple premises. A heated quarrel led to a fistfight, and Kombaiya and other inebriated thugs slashed Krishna near a barrage before fleeing. Krishna later succumbed to his injuries.

In February 2023, Indian Army soldier Prabhu was beaten to death by 10 men, including DMK Municipal Councillor Chinnasamy, near Pochampalli in Tamil Nadu. The incident occurred after a heated exchange between Prabhu and Chinnasamy over washing clothes. The attackers, including Chinnasamy, attacked Prabhakaran and Prabhu, resulting in severe injuries.

In another incident in February 2023, a person was brutally hacked to death by a gang outside the Coimbatore court premises. This incident occurred within a month of another crime taking place inside the court complex, raising concerns about the audacity of criminals in the state.

In March 2023 in Coimbatore, a man carried out a horrific acid attack on his wife inside the Coimbatore court complex while they were there to resolve a dispute. This cruel act resulted in severe injuries to the wife’s face and also affected five individuals in her vicinity.

In March 2023, a newly-married youth Jegan was brutally murdered in Krishnagiri district, Tamil Nadu. Jegan, who had recently wed Saranya against her family’s wishes, was hacked to death in broad daylight by his father-in-law Sankar and two others along a busy National Highway in Kittampatti.

In April 2023, a Village Administrative Officer (VAO) named Lourth Francis was brutally hacked to death inside his office in Murapanadu, Thoothukudi district, Tamil Nadu. He had reportedly been targeted by the sand mafia due to his opposition to illegal sand transportation in the area. Two unidentified assailants entered his office around noon, carried out the attack, and fled the scene.

In another incident in April 2023, a BJP functionary in Tamil Nadu, Shankar, was brutally hacked to death while he was travelling in his car to his home on the night of 27 April 2023. Shankar, who served as the President of Varapuram Panchayat Council and the State Treasurer of BJP Tamil Nadu Scheduled Caste wing, was attacked by a gang who threw a country bomb at his car, forcing him to flee on foot. Tragically, he was chased down and murdered on the Chennai – Bengaluru highway, and the assailants fled the scene.

In June 2023 in Tamil Nadu’s Karaikudi district, five assailants hacked a man named Arivazhagan, known as Vinith, to death in broad daylight. The attackers were caught on nearby CCTV cameras arriving in an SUV and brutally assaulting Vinith with iron rods and wooden sticks on a busy street, while onlookers witnessed the horrifying scene. After the attack, the assailants fled the scene, leaving Vinith lifeless on the road, while a bystander in a blue shirt attempted to intervene and prevent their escape.

In September 2023, a deeply distressing incident occurred in Palladam, Tirupur district, as four members of a single family were brutally hacked to death with sickles. The attack was prompted by an objection to alcohol consumption in the backyard, leading to a confrontation between Senthilkumar and Venkatesan and his associates. The tragic result was the loss of four lives, including two women, leaving the community in profound shock and sorrow.

In October 2023, in Ambattur, a 53-year-old autorickshaw driver named Maxwell was brutally hacked to death by a gang after he returned home from a Tasmac outlet. The assailants entered his house, used knives to commit the murder, and fled the scene in his autorickshaw. Meanwhile, in another incident in Sholavaram on the same day, a 25-year-old daily wage worker named Sarath Babu was hacked to death by four men on a motorcycle as he was walking home from work near Karanodai Market.

In today’s news (17 October 2023), an army jawan was found lying in a pool of blood in his home in Vempur village in Thoothukudi. The soldier had come home on a vacation after serving in Jammu and Kashmir.

Supreme Court Rules Against Same-Sex Marriage But Supports LGBTQ+ Adoption Rights; Parliament Tasked With Further Legal Decisions

The Supreme Court of India on Tuesday, 17 October 2023, gave two very important verdicts on same-sex marriage and allowing queer couples to adopt children. The apex court bench of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, Justices Sanjay Kishan Kaul, S Ravindra Bhat, Hima Kohli, and PS Narasimha, have refused to recognise same-sex marriage as legal in India in a 5-0 verdict.

When it came to the right to jointly adopt a child by queer couple Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud justices SK Kaul favored it, but Justices Ravindra Bhat, Hima Kohli, and PS Narasimha opposed adoption rights in a 3-2 verdict.

It was expressed as a viewpoint that there was no inherent constitutional or fundamental entitlement to civil unions. The matter was delegated to the discretion of the Parliament and State legislatures to determine if same-sex marriage should be legally recognised and to create relevant legislation for it.

The highest court also declined to invalidate the Special Marriage Act and Foreign Marriage Act due to their lack of recognition for same-sex marriages. Instead, the court acknowledged the Union’s commitment to forming a Committee that will assess the rights and advantages that can be extended to same-sex couples.

Chief Justice Dhananjaya Yeshwant Chandrachud emphasised that it was not within the court’s authority to address this matter and suggested that the responsibility of creating marriage-related laws should fall on the parliament. Cheif Justice Chandrachud said,  “The court, in the exercise of the power of judicial review, must steer clear of matters, particularly those impinging on policy, which fall in the legislative domain.”

The CJI who is a liberal by any standard was of the opinion that the court cannot make law, it can only interpret it. “It’s the Parliament’s decision if it wants to bring about a change in the Special Marriage Act. The court has not gone into any other laws except the Special Marriage Act,” he said, adding that the SC can’t hold the Special Marriage Act unconstitutional just because it doesn’t recognize same-sex marriages. Also, it cannot compel Parliament or state assemblies to create a new institution of marriage.

At the same time, the five-judge bench differed on the applicability of adoption rules for non-heterosexual couples. The CJI, DY Chandrachud, while reading out the verdict on same-sex marriage, said that the Central Adoption Resource Authority (CARA) circular, which denies adoption rights to queer couples, is “violative of Article 15 of the Constitution”.

“CARA Regulation 5(3) indirectly discriminates against atypical unions. A queer person can adopt only in an individual capacity. This has the effect of reinforcing the discrimination against the queer community,” he said, adding, “There is no material on record to prove that only a married heterosexual couple can provide stability to a child.”

This verdict now puts the onus on the parliament and the elected representatives to make laws that may or may not allow same-sex marriage and may or may not allow queer couples to adopt children.

While delivering the verdict, the Chief Justice of India instructed the Union, state governments, and Union Territories to eliminate discrimination against the LGBTQ+ community. He emphasized that the government should raise public awareness about LGBTQ+ rights, establish a dedicated hotline for the LGBTQ+ community, and set up safe shelters (garima grihas) for their protection. Furthermore, he stressed the importance of preventing intersex children from being compelled into sex reassignment surgeries.

The Chief Justice also underscored that law enforcement should refrain from subjecting LGBTQ+ individuals to unwarranted questioning at police stations regarding their identity. They should not pressure LGBTQ+ individuals to return to their families against their will. Additionally, a preliminary inquiry should be conducted before filing a First Information Report (FIR) against a same-sex couple in relation to their relationship.

The verdict against same-sex marriage has brought disappointment for the petitioners who had argued that, “India is a marriage-based culture” and that LGBTQIA+ couples should be granted the same rights as any heterosexual couples have, like the status of “spouse” in finance and insurance issues; medial, inheritance, and succession decisions, and even in adoption and surrogacy matters.

It must be noted that the central government had expressed its opposition to the petitions filed in favor of same-sex marriage. In its affidavit, the government contested the request for the legal acknowledgment of same-sex marriage, asserting that the cohabitation of same-sex individuals, which is no longer criminalized, is distinct from the traditional Indian family structure. The government argued that these are clearly separate categories and should not be treated as equivalent.

The Center submitted the affidavit to counter the demands made by various petitioners who sought legal recognition of same-sex marriage. The government’s position was to reject these requests, citing a lack of merit in the petitions. On April 18, the Central Government issued a letter to the States, soliciting their input on matters related to same-sex marriage.

States such as Assam, Andhra Pradesh, and Rajasthan have expressed opposition to legally recognizing same-sex marriages in the country, while Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Manipur, and Sikkim have requested additional time to provide their opinions on the issue of same-sex marriage.

“Only Now We Understand Why ‘Sanghis’ Live In North”: DMK MP Dayanidhi Maran Jumps On Bandwagon To Criticise Jai Shri Ram Chants At Ind-Pak Match

The “controversy” over chanting Jai Shri Ram during the India vs Pakistan match in Ahmedabad doesn’t seem to abate. After Udhayanidhi Stalin criticising the audience for it, next in line is DMK MP Dayanidhi Maran.

Speaking at a campaign related event in Annanagar where he shared the stage with DMK Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, Dayanidhi Maran said, “When the Pakistani players were playing and when they got out and returned to the pavilion, the audience surrounded them and chanted Jai Shri Ram. I just watched the video fully. What I got reminded of was that, after the 2019 Parliamentary election victory, when we went for the swearing-in ceremony of all MPs, there were 330 MPs from BJP. And for the first time in the history of the Parliament, there were chants of Jai Shri Ram, they shouted so much. I bravely went there and shouted, Long Live Periyar, Long Live Kalaignar, Long Live Anna, Long Live Tamil. Only when I did that, they shut up their mouths.

Similarly, that video (match) is making the rounds on WhatsApp. When the Pakistan team visited India in the 70s or 80s in Chepauk and wins the match. After the victory, they carried out a victory lap in the ground. While they were doing it, audience from Tamil Nadu and Chennai, gave them a standing ovation and respected them. Only now we can understand why “sanghis” live in the north and in Tamil Nadu the reason they have no place here is because of Dravida model rule, Periyar, Anna, Kalaignar, Thalapathy MK Stalin, and next Udhayanidhi Stalin. We didn’t say anything wrong.

China has captured our land, but we must not speak about it. If I do, I am a traitor. If we ask them to retrieve our land, they are not bothered. Tamil Nadu is a peaceful state, there is no problem here. And after our leader took over power, we have become a safe and peaceful state. Tamil Nadu is the best state in India. The reason for that is you, the people living here. Every vote you cast for rising sun symbol is what is making Tamil Nadu progress and if you keep doing it, it will remain like this.” Saying so, he concluded his speech.

There are several factual errors in the speech he made.

First of all, the match he speaks about in Chepauk stadium was not in the 70s or 80s, it was in 1999.

There were many MPs who took oath in 2019 in their mother tongues (preferred languages). While most of them did say Jai Shri Ram, there was nothing like they were shut up when Maran said Tamil Vazhga, Vazhga Kalaignar, Vazhga Periyar. In the excitement, he forgot to make his signature in the record books, though. In fact, Dayanidhi Maran went over to Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and congratulated him as well.

BJP MP Hema Malini concluded her oath with Radhey Radhey, Krishnam Vande Jagatgurum; Bhagwant Mann of AAP ended his oath with Inquilab Zindabad, while Owaisi said, ‘Jai Bheem, Jai Meem, Takbeer Allahu Akbar, Jai Hind’. There were other MPs who also chanted Jai Ma Kali along with chants of Bharat Mata ki Jai and Vande Mataram. One MP also said Jai Mamata.

The MPs in the treasury benches did greet people like Owaisi and Sonia Gandhi with Jai Shri Ram but they stopped because they allowed them to proceed with their oath taking ceremony and not as claimed by Dayanidhi Maran.

A total of 320 MPs took oath on that day in June 2019 but Maran fails to indicate that they were MPs from all parties and not BJP alone.

When it comes to campaigning, people do tend to exaggerate but with the advent of social media, politicians fail to understand that it is very easy to factcheck their claims in an instant.

Yet Another Happy Street Turns Into A Horror Street; Earlier It Was Madurai, This Time It Is Thanjavur

The much anticipated Happy Street event organised by the Thanjavur Municipality took a disheartening plunge into chaos. Unlike the previous time , the gathering swelled to an alarming size, with over a thousand  youngsters converging at a designated location, giving rise to severe overcrowding issues.

The overcrowded environment led to unfortunate incidents, as some young attendees collapsed amidst the sea of people. Disturbingly, injuries were sustained by a number of attendees. In addition to the physical toll, discomfort and unease also gripped many women present at the event.

Attendees allege that there were no proper drinking water facilities or any other basic facilities at the event which led to dehydration and fainting among several youth. Molestation attempts were also reported at the venue.

The distressing outcome underscores a dire lack of adequate pre-event preparations, exacerbating the impact on the participants and endangering their well-being. This alarming pattern of Happy Streets turning into scenes of distressing tragedies is deeply concerning. It is evident that the community’s enjoyment and safety are compromised due to the inadequacy of the arrangements.

A report by News18 indicates that the barricades were damaged by unknown individuals. It has been noted that several of the attendees left their footwear and other plastic items at the venue and the whole place looked like a garbage mound.

This is not an isolated incident, as a similar scenario unfolded recently during a Happy Street event in Madurai.

In September 2023, the event in Madurai took a disastrous turn with women and young girls molested, children going missing, several fainting due to the overcrowded venue. The authorities were aware of the unfolding of events, yet they continued but after a point where a stampede situation arose, they dispersed the crowd. Several ladies were also injured during the event. It is noteworthy that DMK Minister PTR Palanivel Thiagarajan and Kollywood actor Soori were part of the event.

The recurrence of such distressing incidents underscores the pressing need for swift and decisive action. It is imperative for the government to take immediate steps to address this growing concern before it escalates further and becomes an irreversible public health crisis.

Despite several instances in the recent past, be it the Marakkuma Nenjam event by AR Rahman which ended in a disaster or the Happy Streets event in Madurai, critics argue that the state government has not learnt any lessons from previous fiascos.

“U-Turn Udhayanidhi?”: DMK Scion Tells Court He Made “Eradicate Sanatana Dharma” Remarks In ‘Personal Capacity’ Not As A ‘Minister’

DMK Scion Udhayanidhi Stalin Who Is Out On Bail In "Eradicate Sanatana Dharma" Remarks refuses to apologize.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK President MK Stalin’s son Udhayanidhi Stalin who is touted as the next leader of the DMK, has made a complete U-turn on his “eradicate Sanatana Dharma” remarks.

Udhayanidhi Stalin, who is also a Minister in his father’s cabinet stoked controversy by calling for the eradication of Sanatana Dharma (Hinduism) just like how dengu, malaria, corona and mosquitoes are to be eradicated.

Participating in a conference titled “Eradicate Sanatana Conference”, DMK Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin said “Mosquitoes, dengue, flu, malaria, corona – we should not oppose these things. They’ve to be eradicated completely. Same is the case with Santanam (Hinduism). Our first work should be to abolish/eradicate Sanatanam instead of opposing it. So, my appreciations to you all for giving an apt title to the meeting.”

Ironically, the “Eradicate Sanatana Conference” was also attended by Hindu Religious & Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) Minister PK Sekar Babu.

Udhayanidhi’s comments had triggered a national outrage putting the I.N.D.I alliance in a fix. Many members of the Opposition alliance including the TMC, AAP and other parties distanced themselves from Udhayanidhi’s remarks. However, Congress ‘President’ Mallikarjun Kharge’s son and Karnataka Congress Minister Priyank Kharge gave tacit approval to Udhayanidhi’s “eradicate Sanatana Dharma” remarks.

Meanwhile, members of the Hindu Munnani filed a quo-warranto petition at the Madras High Court asking, on what basis were DMK Ministers Udhayanidhi Stalin and PK Sekar Babu and DMK MP A. Raja were continuing in their office after calling for the annihilation of Sanatana Dharma (aka Hinduism). The petition came for hearing before Justice Anita Sumanth.

In an affidavit submitted to the Madras High Court court, the DMK scion said that he made the remarks in “personal capacity” and not as a Minister.

DMK MP P. Wilson representing Udhayanidhi Stalin asked whether calling for the eradication of Sanatana Dharma was against the Constitution. He said that there is no mention of Sanatana Dharma in the Constitution or any other law and went on to argue that Udhayanidhi Stalin spoke in his personal capacity and not as a Minister.

He asserted that only those who are convicted for a jail period of 2 years and more can be disqualified and that Udhayanidhi Stalin has not been convicted of any crime. While Wilson argued that no FIR has been filed on Udhayanidhi Stalin, that is not the case.  An FIR has been registered against him at the Civil Lines Police Station in Uttar Pradesh’s Rampur.

Wilson submitted that Article 25 guaranteed not only the right to practice and profess religion but also the freedom of conscience, including the freedom not to believe in God and profess atheism.

He also submitted that a writ of quo warranto was maintainable only when the initial appointment was contrary to the law or when a person had attracted any disqualification under the constitution or other laws, which was not the case for him.

He argued that an elected MLA did not cease to be a member based solely on the registration of an FIR. He emphasised that having a different view should not disqualify a person from holding office as a Minister, as it would infringe on the freedom of speech and expression guaranteed under the Constitution.

He pointed out that the petitioners were relying on a book published by the Benares Hindu College to discuss Sanatana Dharma, stating that the book had not acquired the status of custom or usage and did not have the approval of the majority of Hindu sects.

He claimed that the petitioners were trying to regress society to an era where inequality and discrimination were rampant, and that he was standing for the principles of equality, abolition of caste discrimination, upliftment of backward classes, empowerment of women, and equal treatment of women. It is noteworthy here is still no action taken against the perpetrators of the Vengaivayal incident from the ruling DMK government in Tamil Nadu.

Wilson also said that BJP’s role in pursuing this case is evident from the fact that there is a Central government lawyer on the plaintiff’s side.

He further argued that DMK Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin only spoke of abolishing Sanatana which divides people on the basis of caste and religion. He said that since this matter is a conflict of political principles, the court cannot interfere and hence should dismiss the case.

After hearing the arguments, the judge adjourned the case for 31 October 2023.

Udhayanidhi Stalin’s latest position on his remarks about Sanatana Dharma has triggered the hashtag #மண்டியிட்ட_உதய் (Udhay who kneeled) with many calling out the DMK dynast for the perceived duplicity.

BJP Tamil Nadu President K. Annamalai said “The firmness of their stand defines the character of a Politician. You can’t expect this from DMK politicians, though. DMK scion Thiru Udhayanidhi Stalin has proved us right yet again. Having attended the Sanatana Eradication conference as a Minister of the DMK govt, today, his affidavit submitted to the court mentions that he participated in the event in a personal capacity & not as a Minister of State government. While the elections are due, DMK buries their ideology & the Drama begins.

Hasan Minhaj Under Fire: Comedian Accused Of Lying In Real Life As Well After He Was Accused Of Fabricating Stories In His Gigs For Political Agenda

Feature Image Courtesy: Variety

Hasan Minhaj, the Indian American comedian, and emotional truth-teller has been excoriated by his fellow comedians. Minhaj is a first-generation Indian-American who is quite famous for finding humor in various topics, including cultural identity, the immigrant experience, and the challenges he has faced in the entertainment industry. However, an article in the New Yorker which was published titled Hasan Minhaj’s “Emotional Truths”, has revealed that Minhaj had systematically made up stories of racial harassment to peddle false narratives of victimization in an already woke environment.

The article in the New Yorker talks about how Minhaj had, on multiple occasions, fabricated harrowing experiences as an Asian/Muslim living in America.

The news magazine conducted thorough research and gathered insights from those directly involved, revealing that a significant portion of the stories attributed to Hasan Minhaj were, in fact, fabricated. These stories included the well-known ‘Anthrax scare’ involving his daughter, his prom night saga, and his claimed encounter with Saudis on the day of Jamal Khashoggi’s death in the Saudi Embassy. It became evident that these tales of victimization were not based on reality. Surprisingly, Minhaj himself admitted to manipulating or distorting these stories when confronted by a journalist from The New Yorker regarding their authenticity.

Furthermore, recent podcast clips have emerged, in which American comedians, including Andrew Schulz and Akaash Singh, disclosed that Hasan Minhaj had also deceived them in personal conversations. This deception was driven by his desire to advance a particular political agenda and present himself as a heroic figure by peddling false narratives of victimization.

In a podcast hosted by comic Andrew Schulz who recently made fun of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau took a swipe at Minhaj for defending his fabricated stories and claiming that they had 70% emotional truth. To which  Schulz asked how we even know Hasan Minhaj is ‘Minhaj’ adding that he thinks that Hasan Minhaj’s name is 70% emotionally true referring to what Hasan Minhaj said about his work.

Schulz who is a keen observer of human behavior and the current politically correct dispensation comedy is headed said, “It is not that in his stories, he (Minhaj) was using these exaggerations or hyperboles as punch lines, he was using them to kind of make the audience feel worse about him and then it turns out that these things didn’t actually happen.”

Schulz went on quip that Hasan Minhaj might have fabricated elements in his Netflix specials. According to the report, Minhaj was deceiving his audience by presenting these fabricated stories as if they were his genuine personal experiences, all under the guise of his “emotional truth.” Schulz humorously suggested that Minhaj might as well claim experiences like being in a boat with a tiger (from the movie “Life of Pi”) and earning money in a manner akin to “Slumdog Millionaire” as his own.

However, Schulz also agreed that as a comedian he had also exaggerated at times to make the joke better, He said, “It is not that in his stories, he (Minhaj) was using these exaggerations or hyperboles as punch lines, he was using them to kind of make the audience feel worse about him and then it turns out that these things didn’t actually happen.”

Indian American comedian Akaash Singh pointed out that Minhaj had made life worse for other people in real life and gave the example of the prom night story which Minhaj had used repeatedly to claim that he faced racism for his Indian roots. Akaash said, “Basically the homecoming story is based on the story that he (Minhaj) was supposed to be prom with a white girl. Then he went to her door, where she was putting a corsage on another guy, a white guy because her parents didn’t like the fact that Hasan was Indian and that’s a terrible story.”

Minhaj’s story later was discovered as a farce after the girl whom he claimed had rejected him for the prom revealed that Minhaj had asked her a few days before the prom and she had said no to him. Since he had called her a racist and discriminated against Hasan Minhaj it has now turned out that the girl in question is now married to an Indian.

Andrew Schulz criticized Hasan Minhaj, stating, “I need to have that kind of confidence where, if you don’t like me, it must be because you’re a racist. The only objective reason for not liking me is if the other person has a problem – they are racist.”

Akaash chimed in, expressing disbelief, “Why claim that you went to the door when you didn’t? This is crazy. He told me this story a few years ago.”

In a more serious tone, Andrew asked Akaash if Hasan Minhaj had also told him this story in real life. Akaash confirmed that he had.

Akaash recounted the incident, saying, “I’m talking about 2012 when he and I were friends. I had no idea this was a lie. We were sitting at a diner, and he narrated this story as a traumatic experience. I believed it the whole time… we were just eating. Why did he have to lie to me?”

He continued, “I felt like telling him that his family probably said the same thing – that you two are not a good match, you’re from different countries, different races, different faiths. You don’t fit together.”

Andrew acknowledged that comedians often tweak or exaggerate parts of their stories for humor, even giving an example from his own experience. However, he emphasized that there’s a difference between doing so for humor and doing it to push a political agenda.

Akaash pointed out, “A little exaggeration is okay to make jokes funnier, but it’s not okay when you’re lying about victimization.”

Schulz added, “What Minhaj is doing isn’t comedy; he’s not lying about the funny parts.” He went on to highlight Minhaj’s stories about the Anthrax scare and his daughter, where he claimed someone sent a letter filled with “white powder” to his home.

The New Yorker’s investigation revealed that neither the New York Police Department, responsible for probing potential Bacillus anthracis (Anthrax) incidents, nor local hospitals had any record of an incident that matched Hasan Minhaj’s description. Interestingly, during his conversation with the New Yorker article’s author, Clare Malone, Minhaj admitted that his daughter had never been exposed to any “white powder” and had not been hospitalized.

Addressing Minhaj’s Anthrax and Daughter Story, Schulz questioned why he would write and believe something like that. In the podcast, Schulz also pointed out that Minhaj’s narrative of the White House Correspondence Dinner was filled with falsehoods.

Highlighting Minhaj’s fabrication in the Saudi meeting story, Schulz explained, “He (Minhaj) manipulated the timelines to make his experience seem more significant. He claimed to have had a meeting with Saudis to arrange an interview with Crown Prince MBS. After the meeting, everyone left, and later, they were alarmed because he said that on the same day, Jamal Khashoggi was dismembered at the Saudi embassy in Turkey.”

In response, Akaash noted that these lies were not meant for humor but to portray Minhaj as a hero and to advance a broader political agenda. He acknowledged that while some fabricated stories may not cause harm, they should not be used to push a political agenda. Akaash emphasized the gravity of Minhaj’s fabrications, particularly in the case of the woman in the prom night story, whose life became significantly more difficult, and her family received death threats.

“Fact-Checker” Mohammed Zubair Gets Called Out By Israel’s Consul General For Peddling Fake News And Hate Against Israel

Kobbi Shoshani who is the Consul General of Israel to India has finally called out self-styled “fact-checker” Mohammed Zubair of propaganda outlet Alt News for peddling fake news and hate against Israel.

In a tweet sent out by Shoshani via his official X handle, the senior diplomat said, “If you REALLY consider yourself a fact-checker go to Israel.”

The Consul General’s tweet follows recent efforts by pro-Hamas groups to disseminate propaganda so they can undermine the action taken by the Israeli government after Israel suffered its worst terror attack.

Such is the sinister ploy, that the supporters of Hamas across the world and in India attempted to cast aspersion on the brutal killing of Israeli children, including infants and toddlers.

In response to Israel’s Consul General tweet, Zubair has been going on a tweet spree mocking Indians for their accent saying “Saar Saar”.

https://twitter.com/zoo_bear/status/1713917986791407726

But over the last few days, sufficient evidence of Hamas’s barbarity has been made public, thanks to the terrorists who shamelessly recorded the macabre.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s Office and other credible government entities have presented compelling evidence to demonstrate the brutality of Hamas terrorists and the so-called ‘fact-checkers’ providing them with support.

Earlier today, Amy Mek, a foreign investigative journalist and founder of RAIR Foundation USA, brought to the attention of the Indian public the existence of a website known for spreading fake news, Alt News, and its co-founder Mohammed Zubair.

She highlighted that much like in the case of former BJP Spokesperson Nupur Sharma, Alt News co-founder Mohammed Zubair had targeted her for exposing the activities of Islamist terrorist groups such as Hamas.

Taking to X, Mek has called out on Mohammad Zubair who has now publically called out as a ‘Jihadi’ who is running a left-wing disinformation portal Alt News and through this portal, he has been painting targets on various people.

But now Zubair stands exposed for providing covering fire for the Islamic Jihadist terrorist organization Hamas.

Mek said, “This was simply because she (Nupur Sharma) reported factual information about Prophet Muhammad and the age of one of his wives, Aisha. She noted that Aisha was 6 years old when married and 9 when the marriage was consummated.

She called Zubair a very dangerous person who uses virtue signaling and dog whistles as propaganda to harass people. She said, “I also heard that he was arrested in India and seems to be a dangerous individual who encourages his followers to harass people.

Mohammed Zubair, Co-Founder of propaganda website Alt News and a self-proclaimed “fact-checker” is a rabid Islamist known for peddling fake news. The various instances when Zubair and his partner Pratik Sinha peddled fake news can be found here. Zubair had earlier mocked Hindu Gods through his social media account.

In 2022, Zubair shared a video that was carefully edited so it would enrage a certain minority, and in that process, he put the life of then BJP spokesperson Nupar Sharma’s life and in danger.

The clipped video he had shared of her debate from Times Now was edited out the part where a Muslim speaker had used derogatory language for Shivling.

As the clip went viral on social media, Sharma received death threats from the global Islamist community.

It was all because Zubair insinuated in a subtle way to make Nupur Sharma use derogatory remarks.

Jai Sri Ram Chants And Make My Trip’s Troll Triggers Meltdown For Puthiya Thalaimurai Over India-Pakistan World Cup Match

Saturday, 14 October 2023, saw yet another India vs Pakistan World Cup match where India decimated Pakistan like always. Most Indians were jubilant with what happened at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad while many liberals and Dravidian stockists seemed to have had a meltdown during and after the game. Puthiya Thalaimurai finds itself among those who had a tumultuous experience.

Events During The Match

During this encounter, a few noteworthy moments stood out. The stadium’s DJ decided to play the song “Jai Shri Ram” from the film Adipurush, and to the astonishment of many, the entire crowd joined in singing along. Also, when Pakistan’s Mohammed Rizwan lost his wicket and made his way back to the pavilion, he was greeted with chants of “Jai Shri Ram.”

Notably, the travel aggregator Make My Trip took a lighthearted jab at Pakistani fans, offering substantial discounts in the event of Pakistan’s loss.

Puthiya Thalaimurai’s Response

Puthiya Thalaimurai’s web desk, on 15 October 2023, published an article on their website, which seemed more like an opinion piece, wherein the author, Viyan, voiced his disapproval of the events that transpired during the match.

Critique Of The MakeMyTrip Advert

The Puthiya Thalaimurai writer took issue with the Make My Trip advertisement, labeling it as irresponsible. The writer wrote that a nation that traditionally adheres to the principle of “Athithi Devo Bhava” (Treating Guests as God) seemed to have made itself a “laughing stock” through its “supposed” treatment of visiting cricketers and cricket fans during the World Cup. The author also noted that the infamous “Mauka Mauka” advertisements, which aired during previous World Cups, were criticised for making jest of the Pakistani team. However, the writer seemed to overlook the satirical nature of these ads, as they were meant to be taken in a lighthearted spirit.

The article also didn’t address the fact that the Pakistanis, too, had aired a commercial mocking Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman, who was held captive in Pakistan after his aircraft crashed on their territory in 2019. At the time, no such criticism was raised by the same channel; they merely reported the matter.

Allegations Of Politicising The Game

The Puthiya Thalaimurai writer went on to allege that the game, which should be enjoyed for the sport that it is, had been unduly politicized. They pointed fingers at the BJP for exploiting the Indian cricket team’s success for political gain and decried them for supposedly becoming the face of Islamophobia. However, the author failed to acknowledge that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) operates as a private autonomous institution, distinct from the central government’s authority, with minimal government regulation.

Moreover, the article seemed to overlook the significance of the Pakistan Cricket Board Chief’s reference to India as “Dushman Mulk” (Enemy State) during a press conference, suggesting that it’s the spectators who are imposing a political narrative onto the game, not the other way around.

It is understandable because most Tamilians never learnt Hindi during their school days and hence they would not have comprehended what the PCB Chief had said.

Jai Shri Ram Song Sung Like National Anthem

Well, the Puthiya Thalaimurai writer alleges that “Jai Shri Ram” was sung like a national anthem. For a country with a majority Hindu population and with the Ayodhya Bhavya Mandir going to be officially opened to the public in January 2024, Jai Shri Ram is a natural chant, and the fact that the DJ had in fact played a popular song from the film Adipurush also makes it plausible.

However, the writer appeared to overlook the fact that the audience had similarly joined in singing when the DJ played AR Rahman’s version of “Vande Mataram.” The writer forgot to answer whether singing this popular version of “Vande Mataram” would be scrutinised at the same level as singing Jai Shri Ram.

Mohammed Rizwan

Videos circulated on various social media platforms depicting the audience’s response to Rizwan’s dismissal, which included chants of “Jai Shri Ram.” The writer criticised this, insinuating that Rizwan was unfairly subjected to what they perceived as a form of “harassment”.

https://twitter.com/Politics_2022_/status/1713222580323426736

Prominent Dravidian stockists and liberals voiced their concerns about this purported “hounding” of Rizwan, with DMK Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin condemning it.

The author went on to claim that the Indian audience’s behavior marked a loss of humanity and “sixth sense.”

The writer seems to have overlooked the fact that Rizwan, in a previous match against the Netherlands in Hyderabad, had performed namaz (Islamic prayer) on the ground and dedicated his team’s win to the people of Gaza.

https://twitter.com/Cricktjunoon/status/1712050397076963352

Here in this video, former Pakistani cricketer Waqar Younis “appreciates” how special the act of Rizwan doing namaz amidst Hindus in India.

During the recent match, the Indian spectators simply chanted the name of Lord Ram and refrained from using any threatening language. So one wonders what the problem is.

A gentle reminder to the writer for the treatment meted out to the Indian cricket team by Pakistani fans when they lost the Champions Trophy.

The writer also alleged that the audience coerced YouTuber Speed into saying “Ganpati Bappa Morya.” However, the writer seems to be unaware completely of the instances involving Laxman Sivaramakrishnan, a former Indian cricketer, and Pakistan’s former team member Danish Kaneria. Laxman Sivaramakrishnan, in response to a post by Rajdeep Sardesai, recounted his experiences as a 16-year-old playing in Pakistan, where he faced abuse due to his skin colour, Hindu faith, and Indian nationality.

https://twitter.com/LaxmanSivarama1/status/1713469396293927201

Danish Kaneria, the former Pakistani spin wizard, also recounted how he was treated during his cricketing days by his team members, including being made to sit separately during lunches.

Netizen Reactions

Here is a collection of netizen reactions who thoroughly enjoyed the turn of events at Ahmedabad on Saturday.

In toto, the article by Viyan while trying to be polemic, falls short and sounds more like a venting of “thoughts”.
