Two temples looted on the same day near Kanyakumari

Incidents of robbery at two different temples near Rajakamangalam on the same day has caused a stir in Kanyakumari. There is a Sastha temple at Kakkathoppu near Rajakamangalam. Arrangements are being made for the annual festival to take place next Sunday at this temple. In this situation, the reconstruction work of the temple was going on. Thus, on Friday night, the renovation work was completed and the temple was locked by the workers.

When they entered the temple the next morning, they were shocked to see that the door of the temple was broken. Later, when they had gone inside, they found 24 grams worth of gold jewelry and ornaments that were used to decorate the deity to be missing. The people of the area immediately lodged a complaint with the Rajakamangalam Police. The local police rushed to the scene and questioned the public in the area.

The police are also inspecting CCTV cameras in houses around the temple. Similarly, mysterious persons broke the hundi at the Issaki Amman temple in the area and had stolen ₹2000 from it. Thus the police suspect that the same thieves may have been involved in these two robberies.

Locals are alarmed as the robberies had taken place at temples in two different areas at the same time. Devotees have also demanded that all temples be fitted with CCTV cameras to prevent such incidents in temples.
