Hundreds of fans gathered outside The Shard, London’s tallest building, on Tuesday hoping to catch a glimpse of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, but a planned programme was called off after the Metropolitan Police intervened over safety concerns, as reported in The New Indian Express.
Many fans had reportedly waited for hours outside the venue. A member of Vijay’s team announced over a loudspeaker that the programme was being cancelled as the organisers did not have the required permission and cited public safety concerns.
One young fan, who had reportedly been waiting at the actor-turned-politician’s hotel for several hours, said the decision was understandable but noted that the crowd was relatively small compared with the gatherings seen in Tamil Nadu.

Vijay is currently leading a Tamil Nadu government delegation to the UK as part of an investment drive aimed at attracting companies and positioning the state as a major hub for advanced manufacturing and technology.
According to the Chief Minister’s Office, the delegation has signed multiple memoranda of understanding during the visit involving proposed investments of around ₹12,300 crore.
The MoUs are expected to generate more than 9,400 high-value jobs across Tamil Nadu, the CMO said.
Vijay is scheduled to conclude his UK visit and return to India on Wednesday, 16 September 2026.
