VCK MP Thirumavalavan Campaigns For Sowmya Reddy Who Filed Petition In SC To Ban Jallikattu

Tamil Nadu BJP slammed VCK Chief Thirumavalavan over campaigning for Karnataka Congress Jayanagar candidate Soumiya Reddy, who fought hard for a ban on Jallikattu in Tamil Nadu, claiming it to be a barbaric sport.

Karnataka assembly election is going to be held tomorrow. Voting will be held in a single phase tomorrow in a total of 224 constituencies. The election campaign for the assembly poll has ended yesterday evening. The votes will be counted, and the results will be announced on May 13.

The Karnataka election campaign was more of a national one than a state election campaign. Karnataka is the only state in South India where the BJP is in power. Therefore, the BJP as a whole is fighting to keep its grip on power in this state. Prime Minister Modi and his ministers were campaigning hard in Karnataka. The Congress Party also launched an unprecedented campaign to challenge the BJP. Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, and the entire Gandhi family campaigned for the election. The election manifestos of the BJP and Congress parties took center stage in the Karnataka’s political discourse.

Leaders from Tamil Nadu BJP and Congress supported their respective candidates in the Karnataka elections, primarily in the Tamil dominated areas. Tamil Nadu BJP president Annamalai who previously served as an SP in Karnataka, received a massive response in both Tamil and Kannada areas. In light of this, VCK chief Thirumavalavan, who is in an alliance with the Congress in Tamil Nadu, campaigned vigorously for Sowmya Reddy, who is running for Congress from the Jayanagar constituency.

It is worth noting that Congress candidate Sowmya Reddy fought in the Supreme Court for a ban on Jallikattu, calling it a barbaric sport. Sowmya Reddy stated in a past interview with Puthiyathalaimurai, “It was me who filed a contempt petition in the Supreme Court against Jallikattu. Before issuing its decision in 2014, the Supreme Court considered all factors such as culture, tradition, cruelty, and all other factors. So, the 2014 decision is a very brilliant decision. So, in light of the judgement, how can the government (BJP government) issue a notification? It is impossible to conduct Jallikattu.”

Tamil Nadu BJP state secretary SG Suryah took to Twitter to slam VCK MP Thirumavalavan. He said, “It is proved once again that Thirumavalavan is against Tamils. Thirumavalavan has been shamelessly campaigning for Congress Jayanagar MLA Sowmya Reddy who filed a case in the Supreme Court and is responsible for the jallikattu ban. To this day, this woman is walking around with grudge, saying that she will ban Jallikattu again. The fact that they will even collaborate with enemies of Tamil to oppose the BJP demonstrates to the public the VCK party’s petty politics. Tamils in the Jayanagar area should teach political merchant Thirumavalavan a lesson.”
