Goons belonging to Thol. Thirumavalavan’s Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) reportedly issued death threats to members of a ward in Chennai where an AIADMK candidate had emerged victorious.
Mahalakshmi Babu is the wife of VCK MLA from Seiyyur constituency Panaiyur Babu. Since ward 197 was allotted to the DMK, she decided to contest as an independent candidate.
To win by hook or crook, she along with her party members distributed sarees to women of the constituency as ‘gift’.
However, AIADMK candidate Menaka Sankar won the ward securing 3962 votes. Cadres of the AIADMK distributed sweets to celebrate her victory.
VCK goons who were passing by the area got angry on seeing this and started hurling abuses at the women folk who were celebrating the AIADMK candidate’s victory. They even started issuing death threats. The VCK goons reportedly told the women that despite taking the sarees they did not vote for their candidate.
Irked by this, women of the ward protested by throwing away the sarees that were given by the VCK MLA’s wife and her men in the dustbin.
