Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi is once again dominating Indian social media, this time under the mocking moniker “Rahul Gand.” The nickname exploded after his October 28, 2026, post on X addressing Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman as “Mrs. Sitarama” amid a sharp exchange over the Tata Group.
The spat began when Gandhi accused the government of “criminally destroying” Tata, claiming businesses were being treated as a “plaything” of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, and that no business leader dared speak out. Sitharaman replied urging him to stop politicising commercial and legal matters, warning against spreading “distrust & toxicity,” and reminding him of the Congress-era Licence-Quota Raj. Gandhi’s follow-up post opened with the misspelled name and posed pointed questions about a meeting of Tata Trusts and Tata Sons figures at Shah’s residence.
Critics quickly flipped the error. Users began dropping letters from “Gandhi,” flooding replies and quotes with “Rahul Gand.”

Rahul Gandhi dropping 2 letters from Nirmala Sitharaman ji’s name wasn’t a typo; it was intentional…
Now imagine people start dropping the last 2 letters from Rahul Gandhi’s name… https://t.co/oxsjxoHNxM
