Man who circulated derogatory content against Prophet Muhammed arrested

S.J. Gopal, also called Mount Gopal, was arrested on Friday for circulating derogatory content against the Prophet Muhammad. The 46-year-old Hindu Tamilar Peravai member had been arrested for posting this on social media by the Central Crime Branch of the city police. He was arrested from Nandambakkam and was remanded in judicial custody.

A complaint against him was filed by the Popular Front Of India’s Chennai zone secretary Ahamed Mohideen. The complaint had claimed that defamatory content had been circulating on social media and alleged that this was posted by Gopal and a few others. It also claimed that they had intended to promote enmity between opposing religious groups. The complainant claimed that the police should charge cases against people like these who threatened communal peace and continued to indulge in malicious campaigns.

Following this, Gopal was arrested on Friday, and placed under remand in judicial custody. Gopal was booked under sections 153 (Wantonly giving provocation with intent to cause riot), 153 A(1)(a) (Promoting enmity between different groups), 295(A) (Deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings), 505(1)(b) (Whoever makes, publishes or circulates any statement with intent to cause, or which is likely to cause fear, or alarm to the public), and other provisions of the Indian Penal Code, as reported by The Hindu.

Meanwhile, 2 members of the Karuppar Koottam were held for posting derogatory and abusive videos against Lord Murugan and other Hindu Gods after multiple complaints were filed from different quarters. They have been putting abusive videos against Hindus and Hindu Gods for a long time.

Senthilvasan Muthusamy, a member of the Karuppar Koottam were held only after widespread public outrage. Surendar Natarajan the anchor of the show “Aabasa Puranam” (porn puranam) surrendered at the Ariyankuppam Police Station in Puducherry and was later sent to judicial custody till July 31. 9 other members said to be part of the Karuppar Koottam gang are yet to be arrested.
