The Needamangalam police have arrested five individuals, including the Needamangalam union secretary of the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi, in connection with a death threat issued to a lawyer over a land dispute.
Kesavan (38), a lawyer and party member residing in Manalur, had recently purchased a 23-cent plot near his home. The dispute began when Puthivan (49), the union secretary of the same party, claimed longstanding rights over the land, leading to ongoing tensions between the two.
Two days ago, Kesavan erected a fence around the property. In response, Puthivan and his relatives allegedly demolished the fence and issued death threats. Following a complaint by Kesavan, police registered a case under five sections and arrested Puthivan, his younger brother Bhaskar (47), Rajendran (50), Vijayakumar (39), and Sridhar (42). Investigations are ongoing.
