Muslim Student Outfit Members Attack Leftist Rivals Inside Hospital After Campus Poll Defeat

Fifteen members of the Muslim Students Federation (MSF) were booked after they attacked members of the Students Federation of India (SFI) inside a hospital in Thenhipalam, Kerala, in the early hours of Thursday (29 October 2026), as reported in OpIndia.

A case was registered at the Tenhipalam police station following a complaint filed by SFI Malappuram district secretary Adhil.

SFI State Joint Secretary N. Adil and Malappuram District President M. Sujin were among those attacked by MSF members at DMS Hospital in Mele Chelari. Those named among the attackers include MSF Malappuram district president Farhan, secretary P.K. Mubashir, and state secretary Safwan.

Police have reportedly registered a separate case following a complaint by the hospital over damage to its property.

According to the police, the incident took place around 12:30 AM when Adil and Sujin were at the hospital visiting SFI workers who were undergoing treatment for injuries sustained in clashes following the Calicut University students’ union elections held a day earlier.

Around midnight, a group of MSF members, the student wing of the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), entered the hospital and attacked the SFI members.

Videos of the incident circulating on social media show MSF members barging into the hospital carrying sticks, rods, and other weapons. The hospital security guard is seen standing helplessly as the armed group forcefully enters the premises.

As per reports, Adil suffered a head injury, while Sujin sustained serious injuries to his head and nose. Both were initially admitted to Kozhikode Medical College Hospital and were later shifted to EMS Hospital in Perinthalmanna.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and Leader of the Opposition also condemned the violent clashes and the attack inside the hospital. Vijayan accused the police of protecting the attackers.

The hospital attack followed clashes between SFI and United Democratic Students’ Front (UDSF) members at Calicut University after SFI swept the students’ union elections held on campus. The UDSF is an alliance of the Kerala Students’ Union (KSU) and the Muslim Students Federation (MSF).

Around 30 students were injured in the clashes, while the SFI’s election committee office on the campus was vandalised.

The clashes reportedly began on Wednesday evening after some SFI anarchists objected to the presence of two MSF members outside their election committee office. The confrontation escalated into violent clashes between SFI and UDSF members, with the situation brought under control only after police intervention.

Following the violence, the university registrar suspended classes for undergraduate, postgraduate, and integrated postgraduate students in the university’s teaching departments and study centres on October 29 and 30.

Regular classes are scheduled to resume on November 2. Students have been directed to vacate the campus and hostels.
