Congress MLA Harsh Vijay Gehlot was caught on camera threatening a woman officer in Madhya Pradesh’s Ratlam district on Sunday.

In a video that has gone viral on social media, the MLA from Sailana Constituency can be seen threatening sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) Kamini Thakur in an aggressive manner.

MLA Gehlot and Congress workers participated in a tractor rally held in protest against the Union government’s three farm laws on Sunday. He and a mob of his followers then reached the SDM’s office to hand over a memorandum to the officer. The SDM was reportedly late in coming out to receive the memorandum.

Angered over this perceived slight, Gehlot threatened the officer and scolded her, saying, “We are waiting here for a long time. I am a public representative of my constituency. I won the election because people voted for me but you don’t treat us seriously.”

“You are a woman. Had you been a man I would have held you by the collar and then handed the memorandum to you,” Gehlot can be heard saying in the video.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) raised concern over this incident and attacked the Congress leaders for insulting women. BJP spokesperson Rajneesh Agrawal said, “A few days ago, Congress senior leader Sajjan Singh Verma insulted women and now Harsh Vijay Gehlot threatened a woman officer. This shows Congress leaders don’t have any respect towards women. A case should be registered against Gehlot for threatening the officer.”
