Goons Instigated By Latin Catholic Church Unleash Mayhem In Vizhinjam

Hundreds of protestors instigated by the Latin Catholic Church unleashed violence in the name of opposing the Adani port project coming up in Vizhinjam.

The anti-port protesters attacked a police station and threw stones at homes in Mulloor during the clash on Saturday, injuring women and children. More police officers have been stationed in the area after being informed of the situation. A total of 21 people including policemen suffered injuries in the clash on Saturday.

Protesters led by the Latin Catholic Church assured the Kerala High Court on November 22 that they would not obstruct any vehicles arriving at the Vizhinjam seaport.

On Saturday, however, in violation of the assurances given to the Kerala High Court, hundreds of protesters gathered in front of the seaport’s gate, blocking the road by erecting a shed across the road and stopping vehicles carrying construction materials to the site.

Meanwhile, a group of locals who support the project arrived and confronted the agitators, pointing out that there was a high court order that allows the construction of the port.

A video showing violent agitators led by the Latin Catholic Church attacking houses near the port and injuring women and children has gone viral on social media.

Following the violent protests against the Adani port in Vizhinjam, a case has been filed under sections of conspiracy and attempt to murder against 50 priests and several other violent agitators who blocked a truck carrying stones for the construction of the Adani port.

A case of attempted murder has been filed against priest Eugene Perera, who was present at the protest on Saturday. It should be noted that the Adani Group has already filed a petition in the Kerala High Court claiming that they have suffered a loss of Rs.200 crore as a result of the ongoing protest for more than 4 months.
