Good Times Ahead For Cashew Farmers As BJP TN Leader Submits Proposal For Producing Bio-Ethanol From Cashew Fruit

BJP Tamil Nadu State Secretary Ashvathaman Allimuthu met Union Minister Nitin Gadkari to submit a proposal for the use of cashew fruits cultivated in the Cuddalore region for producing bio fuels.

In his proposal, the BJP leader pitched that cashew is a predominant crop cultivated in the Cuddalore district and remains a major source of livelihood for the people of the region. He said that while the cashew nut is sold in the market and fetches good profit, the economic value of cashew fruit remains unexploited.

He said that as of now cashew fruit is either thrown in the fields by the farmers or used as feed for pigs.

Pointing out Government of India’s policy to go for 20% ethanol blending in fuels, Ashvathaman said that the use of cashew fruit can be explored for producing bio-ethanol.

He said that establishing a bio-fuel industry in Cuddalore distric would not only lead to economic prosperity of the underdeveloped region but also reduce fuel import bills for the country.
