The DRDO collaborated with Tata Sons and built a 1000 bed COVID hospital in a record period of 11 days in the NCR region. This new hospital is located near the Air Force land close to the airport and is to be run by the Armed Forces Medical Services. It has been named the Sardar Vallabhai Patel hospital. This facility will be inaugurated at 12 PM on Sunday (05/07/2020), by Home Minister Amit Shah and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.
This new facility will also have specialised ICU unit beds, which will be fully air-conditioned. The ICU ward is named after Colonel B Santosh Babu, who was martyred during the Galwan valley attacks.
“In honour of Indian Army troops who lost their lives in the Galwan Valley Clash on June 15, DRDO has decided to name different wards of new Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel COVID-19 Hospital, Delhi after them,” said Sanjeev Joshi who is the Technology Advisor to DRDO Chairman. This decision comes after Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Leh, and paid obeisance to the martyrs of the Galwan valley attacks.
Notably, the coronavirus care centre erected at the premises of Radha Soami Satsang Beas, at the Delhi Haryana border, is Delhi’s biggest COVID-19 care unit. This unit has the capacity to house over 10,000 patients at the same time.
