A 35-year-old English teacher, S. Prabhu, employed temporarily at a government high school in Vaniyambadi, has been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting six students. The arrest followed a complaint filed by J. Kamal, the District Child Protection Officer of Tirupattur.
The incident came to light when a group of students contacted the child helpline (1098), reporting inappropriate behavior by Prabhu. A team from the child protection office conducted an inquiry on 24 February 2025, questioning the affected students, school staff, and teachers.
The investigation revealed that Prabhu, originally from Uthangarai in Krishnagiri, had been teaching at the school for about a year. The students accused him of making inappropriate physical contact with them and singing lewd songs during a computer science test on 21 February 2025.
The students later submitted written complaints, and based on the District Child Protection Officer’s report, the All Women Police Station in Vaniyambadi filed a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POSCO) Act. Prabhu was arrested, and the police are now expanding the probe to determine if other students were also victimized.
