DMK gets a taste of its own medicine, #GoBackStalin trends in Twitter on Muthuramalinga Thevar Jayanthi

On a day when ‘Thevar Jayanthi’, Pasumpon Muthuramalinga Thevar’s birth anniversary, is being observed across Tamil Nadu, the DMK and its chief MK Stalin is facing resistance with #GoBackStalin trending number 2 in ‘Politics’ category on Twitter.

DMK and its IT cell which used to trend hashtags against Prime Minister Narendra Modi whenever he made a visit to Tamil Nadu are now getting a taste of their own medicine with #GoBackStalin trending.

While the Tamil mainstream media news channels like Puthiyathalaimurai, News 18 Tamil Nadu, News 7 Tamil, Thanthi TV make it a point carry news or have debates whenever the hashtags against the Prime Minister trended, there has been a deafening silence from them for #GoBackStalin trending nationwide. It is being said that journalists in Tamil Nadu are under tremendous pressure from DMK to not report about #GoBackStalin.

Mainstream English print media like The Hindu, The New Indian Express and digital portals like The News Minute too have been silent on the matter.

Since #GoBackStalin has been trending with #தேவர்ஜெயந்தி (Thevar Jayanthi in Tamil) , speculations have arisen if whether the Thevar community is going against the DMK.

Pasumpon Muthuramalinga Thevar who called ‘nation’ and ‘spirituality’ as his two eyes, was a nemesis of demagogue E.V. Ramaswamy and the secessionist Dravidian movement. However, after his passing away, the DMK and its allies make it a point to visit the statue to pay respects to the leader with an eye on the Thevar votebank, one of the powerful dominant communities in Tamil Nadu.

However, with #GoBackStalin trending on Thevar Jayanthi, it seems like the sentiment towards the DMK is not positive among the Thevar community.
