DMK functionary arrested for sand mining and threatening woman police officer released on bail within minutes

DMK Manapparai East union secretary Arokiyasamy, who was arrested for sand mining, threatening a women Deputy Superintendent of Police, and abducting the seized vehicles from the police station, was released on bail minutes later.

A few days ago, a special team formed by the Trichy superintendent of Police arrested three drivers and seized a JCP and two dipper lorries involved in illegal sand mining in private land. The alleged incident took place at Muththupudaiyanpatti village in Manapparai in the Tiruchi district.

Further investigation by Tiruchy police revealed that the vehicles used for illegal sand mining belong to DMK Manapparai East union secretary Arokiyasamy. When Trichy DSP Brinda asked Arokiyasamy to give over the sand mining vehicles, Arokiyasamy allegedly refused and threatened DSP Brinda. Later, the vehicles were seized by Manapparai Police. However, DSP Brinda was forced to return the seized vehicles due to pressure from higher officials. After this news broke out in news channels, the matter was brought to the attention of the DGP, who directed DSP Brinda to seize vehicles and arrest Arokiyasamy.

On learning this, Arokiyasamy and his entire family went into hiding. A special team was formed to nab Arokiyasamy and his wife on whose names the seized vehicles were registered. On June 16, three sand mining drivers, Karthikeyan, Manohar, and Paul Sekhar, were apprehended.

Manapparai Police Inspector who was helping Arokiyasamy in sand mining was also suspended. Meanwhile, the DMK general secretary has announced that Arokiyasamy will be temporarily suspended from the party.

Arokiyasamy, who surrendered before the Manapparai police station today (June 17), was released on bail a few minutes after being arrested.

Netizens questioned Trichy police for hastily releasing a DMK office-bearer implicated in sand mining and threatening a female DSP.
