Thamizh Thai Vaazhthu Sung In Western Church Choir Style At Khelo India Games Inauguration Ceremony In DMK-Ruled TN, BJP Leader Annamalai Condemns

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Tamil Nadu on 19 January 2024 to inaugurate the Khelo India Youth Sports Games at the Nehru Sports Arena in Chennai. The event began with a warm welcome for the Prime Minister, followed by the opening ceremony of the Khelo India Youth Tournament.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin addressed the audience during the ceremony, emphasising the significance of sports in youth development. The inauguration ceremony was attended by prominent figures including Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi, Union Youth Welfare and Sports Minister Anurag Tagore, Tamil Nadu Sports Minister Udayanidhi Stalin, and others.

However, the event was not without controversy, as the rendition of the “Tamizh Thai Vazhthu,” deviated from the prescribed guidelines. The song, which was declared the state song by the DMK government in December 2021, was supposed to be sung in 55 seconds in the Mullaipani (Mohana) raga.

Tamil Nadu Bharatiya Janata Party head Annamalai raised concerns on his social media handle. He questioned why the song had deviated from the established guidelines. At the opening ceremony, the Tamil Thai congratulatory song was not only extended to approximately 90 seconds but was also performed in a Western musical style, drawing strong condemnation.

He wrote, “In December 2021, the DMK government declared the Tamil Thai Vazhthu song as the state song and issued guidelines including that the song should be sung in 55 seconds in Mullaipani (Mohana) raga. But yesterday, at the opening ceremony of the Khelo India Games, apart from singing a Tamil Thai Vazhthu song for about 90 seconds, it was also sung in a Western style, which drew strong condemnation. It has been DMK’s habit to issue announcements for the sake of publicity politics and then fail to follow them and violate them themselves. Singing Tamil Thai greetings in the form of Western music at a function attended by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India will be seen as another attempt by DMK to destroy Tamil culture. #TNwithModi”

Netizens called out the alleged Christianisation of the Tamizh Thai Vazhtu on their posts in social media.

The controversy adds a contentious layer to the otherwise celebratory inauguration of the Khelo India Youth Sports Games, which also saw how Chief Minister Stalin stumbled and it was Prime Minister Modi who supported him and prevented him from falling or stumbling further.

It is noteworthy to mention that the DMK scion Udhayanidhi Stalin who wished to eradicate Sanatana Dharma (aka Hinduism) has time and again said that he is proud to be a Christian.

CM Stalin himself had said that his government was formed because of Christians while participating in the platinum jubilee celebrations of the Church of South India in September 2021.

DMK MLA and Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker M. Appavu had declared that the MK Stalin-led government in the state was formed by Christians and for Christians.

Lord Rama & Lord Ranganatha: The Ayodhya – Srirangam Connection

“In Srivaishnava sampradayam (tradition), Perumal refers to Sri Rama,” explains Badri Bhattar, the sthalathar or hereditary custodian of the Srirangam Ranganathaswamy temple in Trichy, Tamil Nadu.

Bhattar is referring to the ancient and influential sect within Hinduism which was started by the great guru and philosopher Ramanujacharya who lived during the time of the Chola kings in the early 1000s CE.

Perumal, in Tamil, means God but when used by followers of Ramanujacharya, it means Lord Rama.

The Sri Ranganathaswamy temple is famed for the enormous statue of Lord Ranganatha (Lord Vishnu) lying down in ananthasayanam (blissful sleep) in His abode of Srivaikuntham.

“There is an intricate connection between Ayodhya and Srirangam,” says Badri Bhattar. “And this is the reason why we were of the view that the Prime Minister must visit Srirangam before the Pran Pratishta (consecration) ceremony of the Ram temple,” he adds.

Bhattar is a direct descendant of Koorathalvar, one of the two key disciples of Sri Ramanujacharya and is a hereditary trustee of the Srirangam temple, although it is now under the control of the government of Tamil Nadu.

Sri Ranganatha & Sri Rama

The story connecting Lord Rama and Lord Ranganatha is told in the Ayodhya Kandam (Ayodhya Kand in Hindi) of the Valmiki Ramayana.

Sahapathnya Vishaalaakshyaa Naarayana Mupaagamath – Seetha and Rama together went to their kula deivam (kula devata) Narayana’s temple and did pooja. This is a verse in the Ramayana,” explains Bhattar. “It also says that as Seetha sat beside Lord Rama and handed him the flowers and other pooja items, she was mesmerized by the beauty of one God praying to the same God. It is described that her eyes expanded in joy at the sight. That is why she is called Vishalakshi. This too is mentioned in the Ramayana,” he adds.

“Since Lord Rama prayed to Lord Ranganatha, and since Lord Rama is called Perumal in the Srivaishnava tradition, we call Lord Ranganatha as Periyaperumal,” says Bhattar. Periya in Tamil means elder or big.

“Lord Rama prayed to Lord Ranganatha before his coronation and asked that his stepmother Kaikeyi should ask his father King Dasharatha for a boon,” explains Rangarajan Narasimhan, a devotee and activist fighting to free the Srirangam temple from government control.

There is another fascinating story as to how Lord Ranganatha became the kula deivata of the Suryavamshis, the dynasty into which Lord Rama was born.

One of the earliest kings of the Suryavamshi dynasty was King Ikshvaku. In fact, the dynasty is also referred to as Ikshvaku interchangeably.

It is said that Lord Ranganathar used to live in Satyaloka where Lord Brahma too resided. King Ikshvaku is said to have had a glimpse of Lord Ranganathar and was mesmerized by the sight. Longing to bring the Lord to his kingdom, Ikshvaku does penance to propitiate Lord Brahma. This is how Lord Ranganathar arrives in Ayodhya. He is called Ikshvaku Dhanam in the Ramayana – the wealth of the Ikshvakus. All the kings after Ikshvaku worshipped Lord Ranganathar.

From Ayodhya to Srirangam

But how did Sri Ranganatha go from Ayodhya in the north to Srirangam in the south? That story too is interwoven in the Ramayana.

When King Dasharatha performs the Putrakameshti Yagya in order to have children, all the kings across India are invited. One king from present day Tamil Nadu too goes to Ayodhya – his name is Dharmavarman.

Dharmavarman too is mesmerized by the sight of Lord Ranganatha and upon hearing the story of Ikshvaku, he decided that he must somehow bring Lord Ranganatha to his kingdom. He begins his penance.

“Dharmavarman sat at the banks of the Chandrapushkarini theertham, a pond in Srirangam and prays for Lord Ranganatha to come. Rishis in the area ask what Dharmavarman was doing penance for – when told, they say that Perumal had already decided that He would reside in Srirangam,” narrates Badri Bhattar.

After winning the war against Ravana and returning to Ayodhya after 14 years of exile in the forests, Lord Rama and Seetha honour those who stood with them during the war.

Of special mention is the role of Vibheeshana – brother of Ravana who was of crucial support in winning the dharmic war. Vibheeshana had followed Lord Rama to Ayodhya, renouncing Lanka and wanting to remain with the Lord.

“But Lord Rama told him that he had a duty to his people and that he must go back to Lanka and rebuild the destroyed land,” explains Bhattar. “Lord Rama gave his kula deivam Lord Ranganatha to Vibheeshana and told him to take the Lord in his stead,” says Bhattar, quoting from the Uttara Kandam.

Vibheeshana sets off south towards Lanka and as he arrives near Srirangam, he is captivated by the beautiful land surrounded by the swirling Cauvery river. He decided to stop and conduct poojas for Lord Ranganatha there.

King Dharmavarman who had been in penance cannot believe his eyes – Lord Ranganatha had arrived in his kingdom. His joy is shortlived though, when he hears that Vibheeshana was to take the Lord away in a few days. Dharmavarman beseeches and pleads with Vibheeshana to allow the Adi Brahmotsavam festival to take place before moving ahead. Since the festival was scheduled to begin the next day, Vibheeshana agreed.

The Brahmotsavam festivities were conducted in a grand manner for the next nine days by Dharmavarman.

On the tenth day, Vibheeshana decides to start back to Lanka. He tries to pick up the idol of Sri Ranganatha but he is unable to lift it off the ground.

“Periyaperumal speaks to Vibheeshana and tells him – I will live here henceforth,” says Rangarajan Narasimhan. “Vibheeshana was heartbroken and asked the Lord – you said you will come to my land. How can you now change your mind? To this, Lord Ranganatha said that He will always watch over him. This is why the deity faces south, toward Lanka,” explains Narasimhan.

“Lord Rama in Ayodhya too looks south towards his kula deivam Lord Ranganatha,” adds Badri Bhattar.

Vibheeshana, it is believed, built the very first temple for Lord Ranganatha at Srirangam.

It is also only in Srirangam that Vibheeshana is worshipped as an Alwar, one of the great devotees of Lord Vishnu.

In subsequent years, the Srirangam temple is said to have been submerged in the Cauvery river. “A Chola king called Kili Chola (kili means parrot in Tamil) had a dream in which it was revealed that Srirangam was underwater and that Lord Ranganatha was there, so the king must reconstruct the temple,” says Rangarajan Narasimhan. “It is this king who dug the temple out and rebuilt it. It was subsequently rebuilt by other kings. When Ramanujacharya came to Srirangam, he restructured the temple,” he says.

The Prime Minister praying to Lord Ranganatha before consecration of the Lord Ram temple in Ayodhya is an unmistakeable tip of the hat to the traditions of kings of yore.

The Homecoming Of Ram: A Triumph Of Faith And Resilience

Let me take you back in time. To the year 1528. Or thereabouts.

The Timurid invader Babur is sitting on the throne in Delhi having won the Battle of Panipat. His generals are marauding across the Ganga-Yamuna Doab, pillaging, plundering, looting, raping and killing.

Imagine that you are a resident of Ayodhya. News has been reaching you about the inexorable march of the brutish, Timurid invaders. Of the temples desecrated and demolished. Of the annihilation of the population. Of women being raped and enslaved. Your heart would fill with fear for your family. You look at your mother, your sister, your wife and your kids and you feel a hollow, sinking feeling in the pit of your stomach.

Imagine that you were a Kshatriya then. You decide that you are going to fight the invaders and either save your beloved city, one of the most ancient cities of the land, the city of Bhagawan Sri Ram, or die trying.

Imagine that you go to the Ram temple atop the Ramkot and pray that your heart remains steady and that your sword arm does not falter. Your womenfolk bid you adieu by applying tilak on your forehead, and with dry eyes, despite knowing that, in all probability, you will not be coming back.

Imagine heading off to war, and fighting the good fight against a numerically superior army with superior weapons. You finally fall on the battlefield, a heroic, but ultimately pointless death.

Imagine the scene in front of your eyes. Of Mir Baqi triumphantly entering the city. Of his soldiers carrying the cleaved heads of the Ayodhya army on their spears. Of the bloodied swords and dresses.

Imagine being an ordinary citizen of Ayodhya, watching as Mir Baqi’s rapacious soldiers start their plunder. Hear the pitiful cries of the women as they are violated in front of their husbands, brothers, fathers and children. Fill your eyes with tears on the plights of young children being taken as war booty, as sex slaves to be sold in the distant bazaars of Baghdad.

Imagine the city’s roads running red with blood. Of the sacred river Sarayu, taking the blood of her beloved people into her bosom.

Imagine the plight of the Brahmins in the temples, as they await the inevitable. Imagine them as they are, weapon-less, chanting their mantras and prayers, beseeching Bhagwan Ram to save them.

Imagine the fear that would have gripped them as they watched the uncouth Timurid hordes lay siege to their temple. Draw in your mind’s eyes the scene. Of the temple under attack. Soldiers hacking away at the Idols and Icons. Cutting of noses and ears. And the Brahmins, as they stood in their path. Imagine crowbars being used to smash the temple walls. Think of Mir Baqi astride his horse, stepping into the Garba Griha, the sanctum sanctorum of the temple, and smashing the idol of Ram Lalla to the ground, to be trodden on by his soldiers. Imagine the wicked laughter of those savages.

Imagine what must have passed through the minds of the citizens of Ayodhya as they see Mir Baqi start building a mosque on one of the holiest places of this land. Using the very same stones that housed Ram Lalla. What agony must the people have endured in their hearts? Can you not hear the silent cries that would have filled the city as they watched the mosque come up? Perhaps the original Ram Lalla’s Idol was smashed and used outside the gates of the mosque so the faithful could step on it, to further humiliate the natives.

Step forward a few centuries and imagine the utter desolation of the land. Amidst that desolation stands a mosque on the holiest of Hindu sites. Funnily enough, the Hindus haven’t forgotten about what that original site meant to them. They have still been praying at that site. Praying and hoping that someday, in the distant future, the temple would stand on that spot again.

Spare a thought for generations of Hindus who continued to believe in that and kept alive the memory of the temple that had been destroyed many years ago. Spare a thought for the indescribable hurt and pain of seeing a scene of triumphant invasion on the hillock that had once housed their Ram Lalla.

Spare a thought for Mahant Raghubir Das, who, in 1885, filed a court case to build a temple adjacent to the mosque.

Spare a thought for those who, in 1949,  in the dead of night, placed Ram Lalla inside the precincts of the defunct mosque.

Spare a thought for those 1000s of kar sevaks who gave it their all. Spare a thought for the Kothari Brothers and 100s of other karsevaks, who were killed by the police opening fire on them.

Spare a thought for Lal Krishna Advaniji and Ashok Singhalji and their rath yatra that ultimately culminated in reducing a hated symbol of triumphalism to dust.

Spare a thought for the next generation of Hindus who still waited nearly thirty years for a court verdict to deliver that land to them.

And now, after sparing a thought for all those who went before us, rejoice. Rejoice, because this is a seminal event in not just the history of India, but in civilizational history. Rejoice – because never before has a non-monotheistic, non-expansionist, non-proselytizing faith, EVER taken back its temple, once demolished.

It didn’t happen to the Romans and the Greeks and the Egyptians and the Zoroastrians and the Yazidis and the Mayans and Aztecs and Native Americans or the Australian Aborigines. This is a unique event in human history. So rejoice.

And then celebrate the return of Bhagwan Shri Ram Lalla to his home. A home, lovingly built by contributions from ordinary Hindus from across the land.

Rejoice!

Ram Lalla is finally home.

Meet News18 Tamil Nadu Editor Karthigaichelvan, The Modi-Baiter And Dravidianist Journo Who Asks Some Of The “Toughest Questions” To DMK

The recent interview of DMK Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin by Dravidianist supporter journalist Kathigaichelvan, Editor of News18 Tamil, has received negative criticism especially because of the soft questions that were asked to the DMK scion.

Tamil Nadu Bharatiya Janata Party President denounced the quality of the questions stating that the questions did not sound serious and it was a “friendly” interview.

The interview ended up showing Udhayanidhi Stalin in a poor light, especially for someone who has been touted as the Deputy Chief Minister of the state. Critics argue that the quality of the questions and the responses provided by Udhayanidhi are not fitting for someone who aspires to be the Deputy CM. The body language of Udhayanidhi also did not help – as he was seen constantly shaking his feet and shifting in his seat repeatedly.

Karthigalchelvan is a Dravidian propagandist journalist and a Modi-baiter. He has come under fire for some of his buttressing attitude towards the ruling DMK.

A few years ago, he had interviewed today’s Chief Minister, MK Stalin in a similar fashion which also drew the ire of the public for not asking pointed questions. In this video which is a collection of several interviews of Stalin, he seems to be following a set template in asking the current Chief Minister questions. These questions include what he does to maintain his fitness, how he prepares for long journeys, how he gets his energy to carry out campaigns, and how he prepares himself for such things.

Pro-DMK Behaviour Exhibited By Karthigaichelvan

During a debate on News18 Tamil in June 2023, moderated by Karthigaichelvan, when one of the panelists Advocate Tamil Mani accused Senthil Balaji of corruption, citing his admission to taking money for job placements. Karthigaichelvan defended Senthil Balaji, claiming the ongoing case made labeling him corrupt premature. Despite a DMK spokesperson’s insults, Karthigaichelvan tried to maintain neutrality, softly condemning Saravanan from DMK towards the end.

During a News18 Tamil Nadu debate in October 2022, Karthigaichelvan and DMK spokesperson Constantine Raveendran faced criticism for allegedly protecting CM MK Stalin over a fake news claim related to the Sterlite protest firing. Hindu Munnani’s A.T. Elangovan pointed out the incident where Stalin falsely implicated PM Modi, but Raveendran demanded proof, limiting Elangovan’s response. Karthigaichelvan claimed ignorance and declined to express an opinion.

Modi Hate

In the past, Karthigaichelvan had consistently expressed animosity towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In 2015, he shared a derogatory cartoon (now deleted) suggesting that the Union Government, led by Narendra Modi, was influenced by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).

Karthigaichelvan shared cartoons mocking PM Modi, implying he acts as per Hindu or secular sentiments. One cartoon depicted Modi hitch-hiking on Karunanidhi’s wheelchair during a courtesy visit. Another mocked Digital India, accompanied by a euphoric caption “Hahahaha.”

Once he was called out by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for deliberately trying to peddle anti-Modi propaganda saying that the Centre was waiving off loans taken by corporates.

“You Want To Put People’s Life At Stake For Welcoming Yourself?” Arappor Iyakkam ‘Flags’ Safety Risk As DMK Erects Flags In Highways Ahead Of DMK Youth Convention

The Arappor Iyakkam, has called out Minister and DMK Youth Wing Secretary Udhayanidhi Stalin for risking people’s lives to garner publicity. The controversy revolves around the inauguration of a Relay as part of the upcoming DMK Youth Convention in Salem on 21 January 2024.

With the event looming, the cityscape of Salem has been adorned with DMK posters and flag poles, raising concerns about the potential safety hazards posed by the installation of iron flag poles along the highways. The Arappor movement took to social media to express their condemnation, questioning the necessity of jeopardising public safety for political visibility.

In a scathing tweet directed at DMK, Arappor Iyakkam wrote, Don’t you know it is dangerous to place iron flagpoles like this on a highway that too on a flyover @SalemRRajendran? Can a responsible legislator do something like this that endangers people’s lives? If you do your job well as a legislator, you will get good publicity among the people and your party. Do you want to seek advertisement by risking people’s lives like this?”

In the past, banners and flagpoles have proved fatal to motorcyclists using the roads on which they have been erected. In 2019, a 22-year-old software company employee, tragically lost her life in Pallikaranai, Chennai, when she was struck by a water tanker after a banner welcoming AIADMK leaders fell on her while she was on her way home from work.

How Ayodhya Has Transformed Into A World-Class Spiritual City

In the heart of Ayodhya, where history intertwines harmoniously with spirituality, a monumental shift is underway. This transformation extends well beyond the sacred precincts of the Ram Mandir, signifying the government’s steadfast commitment to revitalizing Ayodhya’s connectivity and ushering the ancient city into a new era of accessibility.

Taking center stage in this evolution is the newly inaugurated and revamped Ayodhya railway station, now rebranded as Ayodhya Dham railway station. With an investment exceeding ₹240 crore, it epitomizes the government’s resolve to modernize connectivity. This three-story architectural marvel features state-of-the-art amenities, including elevators, escalators, food plazas, and shops catering to the spiritual needs of travelers. Seamlessly merging spirituality with modern convenience, the station places a strong emphasis on inclusivity by providing facilities like cloakrooms, child care rooms, and waiting halls. It proudly carries labels of ‘accessible for all’ and ‘IGBC certified green station building.’ The significance of this transformation was underscored when the Prime Minister inaugurated a groundbreaking development—the Amrit Bharat Express, a new category of superfast passenger trains in the country. During the same event, the Prime Minister also inaugurated the Ayodhya-Anand Vihar Terminal Vande Bharat Express.

Beyond railway enhancements, Ayodhya’s metamorphosis includes the recent inauguration of the Maharishi Valmiki International Airport in December 2023. With an investment exceeding ₹1450 crore, Phase 1 introduces a state-of-the-art terminal spanning 6500 sqm, poised to serve 10 lakh passengers annually. This terminal, mirroring the architectural motifs of the upcoming Shri Ram Mandir, displays local art and murals that celebrate the city’s rich cultural heritage. In its second phase, the airport is slated to accommodate 60 lakh commuters annually, significantly enhancing connectivity. This transformation is expected to catalyze tourism, invigorate business activities, and generate employment opportunities within the region.

Ayodhya’s rejuvenation is not confined solely to transportation infrastructure but encompasses the holistic development of the city. During a recent visit by the Prime Minister, four roads—Rampath, Bhaktipath, Dharampath, and Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Path—were inaugurated after undergoing redevelopment, widening, and beautification. These enhancements promise improved accessibility for pilgrims and tourists alike.

This comprehensive approach to the city’s transformation, spanning infrastructure and tourism, underscores Ayodhya’s potential to emerge as a vibrant hub for pilgrimage, tourism, and economic growth.

“Careful, Without The Teeth Touching”: BJP TN Head Annamalai Calls Udhayanidhi Stalin – Karthigaichelvan Interview A “Friendly Match”

Clippings of an interview of DMK Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin by News18 Tamil’s editor, Karthigaichelvan, are making the rounds on social media platforms. The interview comes across as a soft, harmless one, and Tamil Nadu Bharatiya Janata Party head, K Annamalai reacted to it. He spoke to news reporters and elaborated on what he thought of it.

When asked about Udhayanidhi Stalin’s stand on the Ram Mandir, Annamalai replied, “I watched the interview yesterday and it felt like “carefully done with touching the teeth”. It had friendly questions, felt like the interviewer personally coached Udhayanidhi and there were I think 38 questions in all and each question had a response of less than a minute. In the 45-minute interview, he was asked 38 questions. Questions like, how does your mother consider your being a minister, do you have free time after becoming a minister, what is your pastime, like how they say in the villages, without touching the teeth. The interviewer, our journalist friend, carefully conducted it by “bowling” and even coaching him for the batting, he even prompted answers to the questions. He places the questions and also gives the answers to them himself. Is so much coaching needed to make Udhayanidhi Stalin act in an interview? So, the interview that was released yesterday is a friendly match. None of the questions seemed serious, nor were any of the responses. We do not want to lower our standards by responding to them. BJP’s press meeting is an example of what a press meeting should be and Udhayanidhi Stalin must watch it during his free time at home – what kind of questions are being asked, what are the problems plaguing Tamilians, and how BJP’s leaders and cadre are handling it.”

He added, “Will anyone ask a question like this, it was the same person who started the rumour that Udhayanidhi Stalin was going to be the Deputy CM and that someone was spreading this rumour which was quelled by Udhayanidhi himself. It was the DMK that started the rumour. Was it the BJP or the DMK MLAs who said they wanted to see Udhayanidhi Stalin as the Deputy CM in their lifetime? Was it us or the DMK ministers who said that Udhayanidhi Stalin was fit to become a Deputy CM? Did we say that Udhayanidhi Stalin must become the Deputy CM or was it the DMK cadre? You were the ones who said it and even set it up, while being aware of the fact that if it happens, people will laugh at him. Now you are turning the tables and pretending as if someone else spread the rumour while Udhayanidhi Stalin himself quelled the rumour. How many days will you play the worn-out reel? When the problem hits its peak, you release a friendly interview of 38 questions. I even read those questions (someone sent it to me) – were they fitting for someone who nurses ambitions to become a Deputy CM, someone who is a sitting minister? There is so much to talk about. They can talk about the north-south divide, ask about devolution, and ask him to talk about the funds received by TN, but they left out all that and ended up with a friendly media interview. I am just answering your question.

He continued, “DMK is the last one to be eligible to ask about the demolition of a “religious” structure. There is a saying, “You read the Ramayana but demolish Perumal (Vishnu) temples” – how many temples have they demolished after coming to power? After the people raised their voices, they stopped it for the time being. Today the same people are talking about demolition. This, after a 5-member Constitution bench that consisted of a Muslim judge delivered a unanimous verdict in the Supreme Court to grant permission to build the Ram temple and even where to build the mosque, facilitated justice for both parties. After this, a trust was formed, received money from the public as donations – each devotee in the country donated their hard-earned money to build the temple, not like the DMK people who built a house in Gopalapuram by looting people’s money, did they think it was like that? A person in TN has donated 25 crores to the temple. TN is the 3rd highest when it comes to who has donated the most to the Ram temple construction. What is Udhayanidhi Stalin talking about, does he even know anything, does he read anything, does he know what’s happening or does he know about the Supreme Court verdict?”

“We’re MLA Family, We’ll Do Whatever We Want”: Dalit Girl Alleges Torture By DMK MLA’s D-I-L, Says She Was Disrobed, Burnt With Hair Straightener, Made To Drink Chilli Powder Mixed Water

On 18 January 2024, we reported on how an 18 year old girl from the scheduled caste was physically abused by her employer, who turned out to be DMK’s Pallavaram MLA E Karunanithi’s son and daughter-in-law.

In a video interview, the girl revealed that she was forced to sign an agreement under blackmail, subjected to relentless physical abuse, and denied any medical assistance. She described instances of being burnt, beaten, and even scratched with a knife by her employer. Despite enduring extreme cruelty, she was warned against speaking out, as her employer claimed to have influential connections. She also highlighted non-payment of salary, excessive workload, and degrading treatment. The appalling conditions she faced emphasized the urgent need for intervention and justice.

In a widely circulated video on the X platform, the victim detailed the extent of the torment she endured at the hands of her employer. She shared the account of how she found herself in the residence of Anto Madhivanan “After completing 12th, I went to work through an agent there… they took me to one house that was E Karunanidhi MLA’s son, Anto Madhivanan’s Thiruvanmiyur apartment and took me there. Since this was the first time I was working, I told them within 2 days of joining that I was not able to manage the workload but they said, no you should work, beat me, and took away my phone from me. Later when I said I couldn’t stay here and wanted to speak to my mother, they started blackmailing me that they will kill my mother and brother and that I should work there or else they would destroy my family.

She adds, “After blackmailing, they said, now your mother will come, you should sign an agreement with the agent. You should sign for sure. If not, we don’t know what may happen’, they said. We are an MLA family, we have power, we will do whatever we want. After my mother came due to pressure, they said I should sign the agreement and I could not say that to my mother because I was blackmailed so much, so I signed it.

She alleges that they deceived her with false assurances “They promised me ‘You work for 6 months, we will relieve you immediately, another girl will come to replace you’, They enrolled me saying that”

She continues her statement, “One day she slapped me on the face. I’ve been working for the past 7 months, during these 7 months, they’d beat me up as they wish. Even if I didn’t do something properly, they’d slap me on the face as they walk by. One night, we finished packing at 2AM as they were leaving for someplace, they ordered me to finish cooking food by 6AM. They told me I did not have any business sleeping. How can anyone stay awake? I fell asleep at 2AM and woke up at 7 in the morning. Since I failed to cook and keep the food ready, they burnt my arms with the hair straightener. They left me in such a state and left. How much ever I am tortured, even if I am bleeding, they’d never take me to the hospital for treatment. I used to take care of the wounds with home remedies like applying turmeric powder or something like that. I would tie the bandages myself and continued working.”

The victim goes on to add, “One morning they asked me to finish all the work in the morning but I could not wake up and was only able to make breakfast and lunch, I could not sweep and mop the floor as was ordered. Since I did not finish the housework, they said I was not able to accompany them for their work outside. So for the entire day, they beat me up with a ladle. What began in the morning went on 11 in the night. I was beaten with the ladle on my head and mouth which started bleeding. I begged her to let me go home, I fell at her feet unable to bear it, but she never let me go. I was asked to wash my face, post which the beating continued.”

The traumatised victim adds, “She had hit me on my chest several times, I could never speak of it. They scratched my neck with a knife. They would light a newspaper and burnt my mouth with it. They never took me for treatment even after doing this. I had to take care of myself. Even after getting beaten up so much and if I said I could not work, they’d hit me repeatedly in the same place demanding why I wasn’t working! One day, I was chased so much and hit over and over again and was made to work. I still continued doing the chores every day.”

She adds, “My face had changed, she cut my hair, I didn’t know what to do I was in a critical condition. Even then she did not take me to the hospital, she gave me ice cubes to treat my head and all the swollen areas. After all this cruelty, she says if you reveal any of this to anyone outside, who is there to safeguard you? She called me a dog that had no one and no money. She blackmailed me saying she was living in the MLA’s home and that she was the MLA’s daughter-in-law and if she said a word, they would destroy my home.
She even blackmailed me saying she would forge documents through a doctor she knew and would spread news in my village that I had an abortion and shame me. She taunted me as I had no one to go to or take help from. She even disrobed me and sent me out when I begged her to let me be. She even said, that even if I was sent out naked, no one would come and help me. She would say if people know that it was an MLA’s house, they’d go away minding their business. Even for small chore, if I did not wash a vessel properly or fold clothes properly, I would be tortured as per their fantasies and ideas that crop up at that instant. Once she mixed chilli powder in water and made me drink it. I would drink it and after that, I would feel a burning sensation inside but I could do nothing, but cry in pain, I would lie on the floor and beg for water but to no avail.” She added, “The other staff working there would complain about me and she would make me do their work also. I’d prepare lunch and dinner, sweep and mop the house, clean the bathroom, wash clothes – I would do all this and their work also. If I wake up in the morning at 6, I would go to bed only at 1.30 or 2AM. They wouldn’t even let me sit down for a minute, they’d say I am not a guest to sit and that I was given a salary, so I should not sit.”

When asked if she was given a salary, she said, “Till date, I did not receive even a rupee as salary. I have been working for the past 7 months and they have not even given me a single day’s salary. Even if I was unwell and unable to work, I had to do every single chore. Work must be done at a fast pace. I’d be questioned for every single thing I do and would never be able to finish a given task and would get beaten up for this.”

Nayanthara Says “Jai Shri Ram” And “Apologizes” For ‘Annapoorani’

Following massive backlash and subsequent de-platforming of the film ‘Annapoorani’ from Netflix, film actor Nayanthara has issued an apology in her Instagram.

Her letter began by saying ‘Jai Shri Ram’ along with a big symbol of ‘Om’, which is bound to upset the Dravidianists and Leftists.

She said that her film had inadvertently hurt the sentiments of a community while sharing a positive message.

In our sincere attempt to share a positive message, we may have inadvertently caused hurt. We did not expect the removal of a censored film, previously showcased in theatres, from the OTT platform.”, she said.

My team and I never intended to hurt anyone’s sentiments and we understand that the gravity of this issue. Being someone who wholely believes in God and frequently visits temples across the country, it is the last thing I would intentionally do. Her apology comes after a First Information Report (FIR) was filed against the entire cast of the film “Annapoorani” at the Omati police station in Madhya Pradesh. The FIR includes the director, producer, actors, and four others associated with the controversial propaganda film. The film has also been removed from Netflix. The criminal case, registered by the Hindu Seva Parishad, alleged that Annapoorani contains scenes with inappropriate comments on Lord Rama, hurting the sentiments of Hindus. Furthermore, the organisation claimed that the film portrays Love Jihad, a term used to describe the campaign to convert Hindu women to Islam through promise of marriage.

The apology is seen as an attempt to dilute the charges and smoothen the legal proceedings against her and other crew members of the film.

The controversy surrounding the film gained momentum on social media, with several individuals and groups expressing their discontent.

X handle, @GemsOfBollywood that has been constantly exposing the Islamist appeasement tendencies of Bollywood also picked up the matter and brought attention to the issue.

The Commune had published an article exposing inaccuracies and called out the propaganda peddled in the film. The article shed light on the portrayal of a Tamil Hindu Brahmin girl rejecting her family’s vegetarian lifestyle and cooking Biryani by performing Namaz. The FIR against the film comes in the wake of increasing scrutiny of the film’s content by The Commune and other social media handles like Gems of Bollywood, Tamil Labs, Maridhas, etc.

Interestingly, Zee Studios issued an apology to Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) for hurting Hindu religious sentiments in their film and the film was also removed from Netflix.

Old Videos Of MDMK Head Vaiko Blaming DMK For Sadiq Batcha’s Death Surface Amidst BJP TN Releasing DMK Files 3

Tamil Nadu BJP President K Annamalai revealed the second audio of DMK Files Part 3 as part of an ongoing revelation concerning the purported manipulation of the CBI inquiry during the 2G Probe by the DMK. The tape discloses a conversation between former Union Minister A Raja and former Intelligence Chief Jaffar Sait IPS. Within the recording, Raja and Jaffar discuss tactics aimed at undermining the 2G investigation conducted by the CBI during the UPA regime. The conversation explores strategies for manipulating both witnesses and accused individuals to impact the investigation’s outcome.

Against the backdrop of the release of DMK file part 3, a viral video emerged on the X platform featuring MDMK Chief Vaiyapuri. Gopalasamy, also known as Vaiko. During the press conference when he was part of Makkl Nala Kootani (People’s Welfare Front), Vaiko accused the then DMK treasurer MK Stalin of being responsible for the death of Sadiq Basha. Sadiq Basha, a close associate of former Union Minister A Raja was allegedly implicated in the 2G scam.

In a tone filled with anger, he declared “I’m blaming DMK for Sadiq Basha’s death. They can take legal action against this… Stalin has no guts to sue me for this, in frustration, in a heartbeat, he sued a defamation suit for alliance talk trying to give this many seats, that much money circulated in all papers.”

He further asserted strongly “Stalin is behind 2G spectrum! I’m saying this now, ask him to sue me for that”

In another widely circulated video on the X platform, Vaiko claims to have confirmed the murder of Sadiq Basha. He asserts his intention to file a case in the High Court regarding this matter. Additionally, he alleges that the funds obtained through the 2G scam were systematically transferred, box by box, to Arivalayam, the headquarters of DMK.

While meeting the reporter he said “In this.. In the 2G spectrum case, crores of money were carried away to Arivalayam in several boxes. Cardboard boxes. Sadiq Basha has come many times when it was carried. In Arivalayam in certain places after 10 PM in the night, money was handed over to specific persons. There is evidence for this. But they are scared due to fear that Stalin would be exposed with crores of money that was given… The background of this murder should be exposed”.

Challenging the motive of the context, he inquired, “Why did they kill Sadiq Basha? Why did they kill? To protect whom? Is it to protect only Jaffar Sait or to protect others from the Kalaignar Family?

The appearance of these videos, within the context of Tamil Nadu BJP President Annamalai’s revelations, has revived discussions about the 2G spectrum scam on various social media platforms.
