Congress lackey Kunal Kamra has advocated for people to try LSD and psychedelic mushrooms at least once in their lives, while describing LSD as an “introspective drug” that can supposedly help people break away from unhealthy habits.
Kamra made the remarks during a conversation with fake news peddler YouTuber Shyam Singh Meena, while discussing substance abuse, addiction and his own experiences.
Meena asked Kamra what prompted him to move away from substance abuse.
Kamra responded, “Reading about the experiences of those who have overcome it—listening to people who have moved past that phase—is key. The main driving factor shouldn’t just be about what you do in the evening; the driving factor should be about what you do from morning till night.”
The conversation then turned to the experiences people associate with marijuana and other substances.
Meena said some of his friends believed that experiences after consuming weed or other substances were more memorable than their everyday lives.
Kamra agreed, saying, “Yes 100%. That implies their actual life is sad, then.”
He then went on to make a much more controversial suggestion, advocating the use of LSD and psychedelic mushrooms.
“I would go so far as to say that if your doctor or physician allows it, everyone should try mushrooms and LSD at least once. I’d say you should definitely try LSD once.”
Kamra specifically described LSD as a mind-altering substance and claimed that it could take people away from their daily habits.
“Yes, LSD is specifically a mind-altering drug. It can take you away from your daily bad habits.”
He further claimed that LSD had been discovered to help treat alcoholism and criticised the US government’s “War on Drugs” for placing LSD and mushrooms in the same category as other psychotropic substances.
“LSD was actually discovered to help cure alcoholics. But when America’s bogus “War on Drugs” began, they lumped LSD and mushrooms—what are known as psychotropic substances—into the same category, which is completely wrong.”
Kamra went on to reject the characterisation of LSD as a recreational drug and instead described it as a tool for introspection.
“It isn’t a recreational drug; it’s an introspective drug. Basically, it opens you up; it helps your mind.”
He then extended his argument to people holding political power, saying that those in positions of authority should also try LSD.
“Yes, I even say that anyone in power, anyone in power should 100% try LSD at least once in their life. Then they would understand that their power stems from someone else’s weakness, not their own strength.”
Kamra concluded by again encouraging people to try LSD or mushrooms, while adding a caveat about medical supervision.
“So, LSD basically opens your mind. Towards, well, if you can get the go-ahead from your doctor on this… in a controlled way—yes, you can’t get addicted to that drug. Anyway, you really ought to try LSD or mushrooms at least once in your life.”
The remarks are notable because they go beyond discussing psychedelic drugs in the context of addiction or research and amount to an explicit suggestion that people should try LSD or mushrooms at least once.
Kamra’s comments also included a claim that LSD is not addictive and that it can help people overcome unhealthy habits. Such claims require considerable medical and scientific context and should not be interpreted as medical advice.
