DMK deputy general secretary and Nilgiris MP A Raja has launched a sharp attack on the ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), indirectly targeting Tamil Nadu Minister Nirmal Kumar over his recent criticism of the DMK.

Speaking at a wedding function in Chennai, Raja accused some TVK ministers of talking about “whitewashing” the DMK headquarters, Anna Arivalayam, and renting it out, claiming that such remarks were being made after they received the national flag on their cars.

Raja’s remarks came amid an ongoing exchange between the DMK and the TVK, with leaders of both parties stepping up criticism of each other following the TVK government coming to power.

Without naming Nirmal Kumar directly, Raja appeared to be referring to the minister’s recent remarks targeting the DMK.

In his speech, Raja used the term “tharuthalaigal” (roughly “good-for-nothings”) while referring to those making such comments.

“I want to tell all of you one thing before I take leave. Today, because some good-for-nothings have got the national flag on their cars, some good-for-nothing ministers are talking about whitewashing Anna Arivalayam and renting it out. We are saying this at this family function.”

Raja then invoked the DMK’s founding leaders, Periyar E.V. Ramasamy, C.N. Annadurai and M. Karunanidhi, while defending the party headquarters.

“It was only after Periyar, Anna and Kalaignar entered politics and conducted their housewarming that Tamils began whitewashing their houses. It was only after Anna Arivalayam came into existence that Tamils began whitewashing their houses many times.”

Raja went on to claim that Tamil Nadu itself had undergone a transformation under the influence of the Dravidian movement.

“Tamil Nadu has whitewashed itself. Therefore, a group of good-for-nothings who criticise Anna Arivalayam is ruling Tamil Nadu today.”

Raja made the remarks while speaking at a wedding function attended by members of the Karunanidhi family.

He concluded his speech by calling for efforts to defeat the ruling establishment in Tamil Nadu.

“Therefore, at this wedding ceremony, while wishing the bride and groom a long and happy life at this family function that carries Periyar, Anna and Kalaignar in its heart, I say that we will make every effort to drive out this group of good-for-nothings that is ruling Tamil Nadu today.”
