BJP TN’s SG Suryah Provides Relief To Flood-Affected Narikuravar Community In South Chennai

BJP Tamil Nadu State Secretary Dr. SG Suryah has been undertaking various relief works ever since Cyclone Michaung struck Chennai in the first week of December 2023.

An MP aspirant wishing to contest from the South Chennai constituency for the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Suryah has converted his home in Thiruvanmiyur virtually into a relief camp coordinating and distributing relief materials along with RSS’ Sevabharathi organization.

A team of volunteers from the BJP and RSS’s Sevabharathi established kitchens at various locations, often utilizing temple facilities in the vicinity. In some places, the BJP leader established ‘Modi Kitchens’ to provide food to those whose home were inundated and were suffering without essentials.

As part of his relief efforts, Suryah is focusing on areas where the DMK government has failed to reach.

On 14 December 2023, Suryah along with volunteers from RSS’ Sevabharathi distributed food kits and other household articles in the Narikuravar colony of Thiruvanmiyur.

There are around 84 households in the colony which is home to close to a 100 people. Most of the households were completely or partially damaged due to the flood waters which inundated the colony. They had to stay put at a Corporation school for a few days until the waters receded.

The residents complained to Dr. Suryah that they don’t have a stormwater drain or sewage drain which could’ve prevented flooding.

Suryah assured them that he will take up their concerns with the respective authorities and ensure that their grievances are addressed.

The toilets that have been constructed for them by the government are unusable and have been turned into a store room to stuff unwanted materials.

Suryah told The Commune that they come to know of their pitiable condition when he visited the colony a few days back to provide food packets.

In order to provide them with immediate relief, Suryah provided them with a food kit (10 kg rice, dal, rava, oil, sugar, jaggery) along with vessels, sleeping mats and other household articles.
