Indhu Makkal Katchi Head Arjun Sampath Slams DMK Govt Over Alleged Attempt To Curtail Ram Mandir Consecration Celebrations In Tamil Nadu Temples

As the entire nation eagerly anticipates the consecration of the grand Ram Janmabhoomi Temple in Ayodhya on 22 January 2024, a report from the Tamil news daily Dinamalar has left devotees dismayed. According to the report, the DMK government in Tamil Nadu allegedly issued unofficial verbal orders to prohibit Annadanam (free food) and other special poojas in temples marking the ceremony.

The issue also came to spotlight when devotees in Then Thiruperai were denied police permission to hold bhajans and special poojas at the Perumal temple. It is pertinent to note that Then Thiruperai is considered one of the ‘Nava Thirupathi’ and is located in Thoothukudi (DMK MP Kanimozhi’s constituency).

After Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman slammed the DMK government, the Hindu Religious & Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) Minister P. Sekarbabu called it ‘rumours’ and an attempt to deflect people’s attention from Udhayanidhi Stalin’s DMK Youth Wing conference. The DMK Minister said that no such orders have been given by the government.

Recently regarding this Arjun Sampath the head of Indu Makkal Katchi (Hindu People’s Party) spoke to Arasiyal Thelivoam’s YouTube channel regarding the alleged ban on special temple rituals by the DMK government on the occasion of the inauguration of the Ram Temple on 22 January 2024.

Arjun Sampath explained that Then Thiruperai is one of the Nava Thirupathi, and holds historical significance, especially during the 22 January Pran Prathista, aligning with Ayodhya’s events. Apparently, officials of the HR&CE department prevented the residents from performing bhajans, not only at this location but also at the Then Thiruperai Siva temple and the Kurankani Muthumallai Amman temple.

Arjun Sampath explained that the Kurangani Muthumallai Amman temple, derives its name from monkeys lining up during the Ramayana period and is also connected to the discovery of Sita Devi’s jewels.

“Yes, Kurangani Muthumallai Amman temple means (Kurangu-Monkeys Ani- in line) monkeys stood lined up. In Ramayana period to go to Lanka, because Ram’s monkey troops lined up and Sita devi’s jewels were discovered here so the Muthu Maalai (Pearl Necklace) and so the Muthu Malai temple is connected to Ramayana.”, Arjun Sampath said.

He further stated that the HR&CE, led by Minister Sekar Babu in Tamil Nadu under Chief Minister MK Stalin, has verbally and in writing some places instructed that special poojas should not be conducted in these temples. This has been perceived by the people as an affront to spirituality and an attempt to undermine Sanadhan Dharma. The government’s interference is seen as a severe inconvenience for devotees, and urged immediate intervention by Sekar Babu.

Now on these all temple HR&CE and its administration Sekar Babu is the minister for it and Tamil Nadu government MK Stalin is the Chief Minister. They today through verbally in some areas through writing in some special poojas should not be conducted and banned.Among the people and devotees, this is the government is against spirituality, to destroy Sanadhana Dharma from the point of view HR&CE is been administered so this is some much torture for the devotees this is completely wrong. Because of this in the entire Tamilnadu there has been displeasure immediately Sekar Babu should intervene”.

He further added that Government officers should not act arbitrarily; their role is to facilitate the convenience of devotees. Many towns and states have declared holidays for similar occasions, and Tamil Nadu should follow suit. The HR&CE, through Sekar Babu, has announced a special darshan for those going to Ayodhya, but simultaneously, they are threatening people and banning traditional events in temples, raising questions about fairness.

He questioned the contradictory that “Do officers work at their own disposal? The officers cannot decide what poojas are performed their objective is to work for the convenience of the devotees. Many towns in many states  have declared a holiday central government has announced leave up to the afternoon 2. Tamil Nadu government should announce a public holiday and through HR&CE already Sekar Babu has announced this ‘We will arrange special darshan to people who go to Ayodhya’. But here HR&CE department threatening people usually in the thiruperai temple if we pay the fee for the mandapam they will allocate the place in there thirupavai thiruvempavai contests will happen every year. Banning all these is fair in what way? So in all places we will protest in a democratic and truthful way. HR&CE department should not do this kind of anarchy!”

He finally said that the EO and HR&CE officers’ behavior, calling archakars, threatening devotees, and batachariyars not to perform special poojas, is deemed unfair. “If the situation continues, we will escalate our actions, bringing the Chief Minister and HR&CE Minister into the spotlight. The HR&CE commissioner must reconsider and withdraw their directives; otherwise, severe repercussions may follow, ultimately damaging the government’s reputation.” Arjun Sampath said.

“EO, HR&CE officer calling the archakas, threatening devotees, and batachariyars saying you should not perform any special poojas… what way it is fair? If the situation in these famous temples connected to Ramayana’s is like this … this is so Anti-Hindu and the motive of HR&CE is erroneous”

He warned “We will take further steps, this is so shocking for us particularly we will bring the view of the chief minister and HR&CE minister if the HR&CE commissioner has directed regarding this. immediately they should take back or else severe reactions particularly from the government will suffer damage later on”

Union FM Nirmala Sitharaman, TNBJP Chief Annamalai Condemn Alleged Order By TN Govt; TN Govt Secretariat Sources And DMK HR&CE Min Say No Such Order Given

There were reports of “unofficial verbal orders” that explicitly prohibited any temple under the ambit of the Hindu Religious & Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) department from conducting special prayers & poojas, offering Annadanam, or organizing related programs on 22 January 2024. This move sparked considerable dissatisfaction among the devotees.

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman took to her X handle to criticise this alleged move by the TN government. She wrote, “TN govt has banned watching live telecast of #AyodhaRamMandir programmes of 22 Jan 24. In TN there are over 200 temples for Shri Ram. In HR&CE-managed temples, no puja/bhajan/prasadam/annadanam in the name of Shri Ram is allowed. Police are stopping privately held temples also from organising events. They are threatening organisers that they will rip off pandals. Strongly condemn this anti-Hindu, hateful action. Heart-breaking scenes in several parts of TN. People are threatened for organising #bhajans, feeding the poor, celebrating with sweets even as we wish to watch Hon. PM Narendra Modi participate in #Ayodhya. Cable TV operators are told that there is a likely power shutdown during the live telecast. This is I.N.D.I Alliance partner DMK’s anti-Hindu efforts. TN govt is unofficially claiming law and order issues to justify the live telecast ban. False and fake narrative! There was no L&O issues on the day of #Ayodhya verdict. Not even the day when PM Narendra Modi laid the foundation, in any part of the country. The groundswell and the voluntary participation of people to celebrate #ShriRam in TN has rattled the anti-Hindu #DMK.”

Tamil Nadu Bharatiya Janata Party chief Annamalai also posted on his X handle. He wrote, “The nation is in a state of celebration after the inauguration of Lord Rama’s idol in Ayodhya by our honourable Prime Minister of India Mr. Narendra Modi. Irrespective of caste and religion, all people welcome this auspicious day. Ahead of this day, which all the people of the country have been looking forward to for many years, special pujas and charitable works including annadanam are being held in all the temples across the country. In this situation, it seems that the DMK government, which is engaged in anti-Hindu activities in the name of running a secular government, has banned special pujas and food offerings in Tamil Nadu temples. What right does the DMK government have to interfere in temple practices? Apart from that, it is said that the police should not hold any programme on behalf of the temple administration or the public in Tamil Nadu in view of the installation of the statue of Sri Ram and should not broadcast live through a big screen for the public to see. Temples in Tamil Nadu belong to devotees. I would like to remind you that the DMK government has no right to interfere unnecessarily in the temple procedures or to interfere with the worship practices. People of other faiths will not want to prevent the fundamental right of Hindus from worshiping in temples. Who is the DMK government trying to satisfy in this divisive effort? I urge DMK to give up its petty activities of pissing off Hindu people once a month. Disregarding DMK’s ban, I would like to inform you that for the Ayodhya Sri Ram temple festival, special pujas and charity work including annadanam will continue in Tamil Nadu temples.”

Following this outrage from all sections of Tamil Nadu, some news channels carried a news item quoting “Secretariat sources”. The news card reads, “News is spreading on social media that the Tamil Nadu government has banned special pujas in temples in the name of Ram. No such notification has been issued” .

Additionally, Hindu Religious & Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) Department minster PK Sekar Babu posted on his X handle that, “A planned rumour is being spread to divert the DMK Youth Conference, which is going on in full swing in Salem. The HR&CE Department has not imposed any restrictions on devotees to perform pooja in the name of Ram, give food or offer prasad in temples in Tamil Nadu. It is regrettable that people like Union Finance Minister Mrs. Nirmala Sitharaman, who are in a high position, are spreading this completely untrue and intentional false news!”

The Commune Interview: Diplomat Jeysundhar’s Soulful Journey With Aandaal In ‘Maalyadaa: The Sacred Garland’

Delving into South Indian devotional literature, Jeysundhar, a seasoned diplomat, takes readers on a spiritual journey with his work, “Maalyada: The Sacred Garland.” This alluring exploration centres around Aandaal – the luminous jewel of the Vaishnava sampradaya, a poet-saint who transcends the bounds of earthly existence with her ineffable devotion. Enshrined in the sacred verses of the Tiruppaavai, her poetic symphony resonates with the timeless melody of divine love. Adorned in the ethereal hues of innocence and piety, Aandaal casts a radiant glow on the spiritual landscape, embodying the essence of a soul enraptured by the divine. Through an email interview, Jeysundhar shares his journey and experiences with The Commune and everything about his latest book, Maalyada.

The Commune: How did Jeysundhar transition from being a diplomat to becoming an author? Could you share insights into your journey, including details about his family, early days, and other aspects of his life?

Jeysundhar (JS): I come from the temple town of Tiruchirappalli. My father was a welder in a factory and is now retired. My mother is a homemaker. My sister is a singer of Carnatic music. Due to a variety of reasons, most of them financial, I started working after school. Starting my career in a call centre, I parallelly pursued a Bachelor’s degree as a correspondence course with Madras University. Having completed my graduation, I continued working while also considering preparing for the UPSC Civil Services Examination. Perhaps due to the international exposure at the call centre, an interest in other languages and cultures, or having never travelled abroad before, the Indian Foreign Service became my first choice in the UPSC CSE. I cleared the exam in 2012 and joined the IFS. I am currently in my 12th year, and it continues to be a satisfying journey, filled with new experiences and opportunities for learning.

During the preparation for the CSE, I started writing a blog. Initially, it was short poetry (if I may call it that), followed by page-long posts on the blog. But, I was fascinated by the potential of Twitter (now called X) as a writing pad with a strict character limit. This enabled me to condense my thoughts into as few words as possible while also exploring an idea through a series of tweets/posts. My first published piece (an article on Muthuswamy Dikshitar’s Kamalaamba Navavaranas in the Indian Express) and my first book (Maalyada: The Sacred Garland) started as threads and expanded into their final published forms.

The Commune: What profound motivations led you to pen the work ‘Maalyadaa’?

JS: As a child, I’ve always been drawn to the songs of the Tiruppaavai, especially to the rendition of four of the Paasurams by my grandfather, Sadhu Sri. Pithukuli Murugadas. During times of distress, I kept returning to the Tiruppaavai, especially Aandaal’s promise of” Muppadhum Thappaame” (that the 30 Paasurams will never fail). While these Paasurams appear relatively simple, their lyrical beauty is unparalleled. Even that is a deceptive ornament that covers the philosophical and theological profundity of the verses of the Tiruppaavai. In 30 deceptively simple songs of 8 verses each, Aandaal captures the essence of what later Aachaaryas would come to propound as Rahasya Trayam, namely, the Ashtakshari, Dvaya Mantra and the Charama Sloka. As I had drawn fulfilment from the Tiruppaavai, I wanted to attempt to bring their message to a larger audience in a format that was accessible to them. So, Maalyada is written as a conversation between Aandaal and the other girls who perform the Paavai Nonbu with her.

The Commune: What is the significance of the title “Maalyadaa,” and how does it encapsulate the essence of your work?

JS: The title, “Maalyada”, is inspired by the epic poem “Aamuktamaalyada”, composed on Aandaal by Raja Krishna Deva Raya. Aamukta Maalyada means “she who wore and gave it”, or as Aandaal is called in Tamil, “Soodi Kodutha Sudarkkodi”. As Aandaal’s Tiruppaavai is considered to be a “Paamaalai” or a garland of songs, I titled my book “Maalyada”, with a sub-title, “The Sacred Garland”, thereby referring to both Tiruppaavai as the garland and Aandaal as the garland-giver.

The Commune: Among the myriad figures in South Indian devotional literature, what drew you specifically to Aandaal as the focal point of your book?

JS: Aandaal fully manifests the Naayika bhava of the Jivaatma being the consort to the Paramaatma. No other part of the Naalayira Divya Prabandham is more appropriate to the month of Maargazhi than the Tiruppaavai. Aandaal’s Paasurams, unlike those of the other Aazhvaars, are written from the perspective of a young girl immersed in bhakti bhaava. This makes the compositions appealing to us. As I said before, the simplicity of the Paasurams is only to make them appear accessible to us. Beneath the surface, they explore the unfathomable depths of Sri Vaishnava philosophy, which may not be comprehensible to the uninitiated if presented in any other format. But, even to those like us, Aandaal’s Paasurams grant a vision of the grandeur of Bhagavaan in a manner that we can understand.

The Commune: If readers were to glean one key message or insight from “Maalyadaa,” what would you hope that to be?

JS: The emphasis on Bhakti and Saranaagati. That wealth of material, intellectual and spiritual nature is of use only when placed in the service of the Lord. The 30 Paasurams of the Tiruppaavai capture the three aspects of the Rahasya Trayam, the five aspects of the Artha Panchakam and the nine aspects of Navavidhaa Bhakti. Common to all these is the element of Saranaagati embodied in the Charama Sloka of the Bhagavad Geetaa.

The Commune: Isn’t your diplomat work taxing? How do you manage to don multiple hats?

JS: It’s a little premature for me to talk about this, considering that Maalyada is only my first book. While it’s true that I cannot afford large blocks of time, especially during the week, most of the work on Maalyada happened in trickles of half an hour in the morning or the evening. I’m starting to see the merit of consistency daily over erratic intensity once in a while, interspersed with periods of inactivity. I’ll be better placed to answer this question once I’m able to write a few more books in the coming years.

The Commune: Are there any projects in the pipeline for you as an author?

JS: Yes, there are a few ideas, of both fiction and non-fiction, that are in various stages of development. There are even a few on which I may work again with Keshav Ji if he would be kind enough to agree. But as they are at an early stage, I’d like to share more information about them in the coming months.

The Commune: Tell us about your recent meeting with Prime Minister Modi when he was in Tamil Nadu.

JS: On 19 January 2024, I had the honour of presenting a copy of my book to Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. During the meeting, I discovered that the Prime Minister was familiar with the Azhvars and Nalayira Divya Prabandham. He inquired about my adherence to traditional commentaries and if I had made any contributions. I shared that I followed Periyavachan Pillai’s commentary and presented it in a conversational format. PM autographed a copy of “Maalyada,” which I will cherish forever. I also had the privilege of presenting a copy of Keshav’s divine work to the PM, depicting Rama, Lakshmana, Sita, Hanuman, and Vibhishana. PM expressed curiosity about the squares’ colours, and I explained their symbolic representation linking them to the characters’ divine connections. The lower part of the painting featured three slokas from Sh. Ramanuja’s Sarangati Gadyam, Valmiki Ramayana, and the Charama Sloka of Bhagavad Gita, emphasising the virtue of Saranagati. Overall, it was an unforgettable experience.

Readers can purchase the book Maalyada here.

Report Says Special Poojas, Annadanam, Live Telecast Of Ram Mandir Consecration Prohibited In Tamil Nadu Temples Through ‘Unofficial Verbal Order’

With the entire nation gearing up for the consecration of the grand Ram Janmabhoomi Temple in Ayodhya on 22 January 2024, a report by Tamil news daily Dinamalar has shocked devotees which says that the DMK government in Tamil Nadu has issued ‘verbal orders’ unofficially to prohibit Annadanam (free food) and other special poojas in temples marking the ceremony.

This ‘unofficial verbal’ directive explicitly prohibits any temple under the ambit of Hindu Religious & Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) department from conducting special prayers & poojas, offering Annadanam, or organizing related programs on 22 January 2024. This move has sparked considerable dissatisfaction among the devotees.

Usually, during major festivals and occasions, devotees, Hindu organizations, social activists, political parties in their respective areas arrange for special poojas, bhajans and offer Annadanam at the local temples with funds from their own pockets and the public.

According to Dinamalar’s report, the Tamil Nadu government has ‘verbally warned temple administrators that no programs, whether on behalf of the temple administration, devotees, organizations, or parties, should be conducted.

No special puja, offering of Annadanam and any related programs should be held in Tamil Nadu temples on the occasion of the opening ceremony of Ayodhya Ram temple. No program should be held on behalf of the temple administration or in the name of devotees or in the name of organizations or parties. It should not be advertised and bannered. Action will be taken against the concerned temple executive if any activities including Annadanam are done in violation.“, temple executives have been warned states the Dinamalar report.

Dinamalar report also stated that the police are actively preventing the live telecast of the Ayodhya festival on big screens in public places.

This has prompted various devotees and BJP leaders to express their discontent on social media. They question the legal basis for the Tamil Nadu government’s authority to prohibit special pujas in temples, asserting that no government should have the right to impede the worship of Lord Rama on this historic day. Some even indicate a willingness to conduct special pujas in defiance of the ban if it persists.

However, in numerous locations across Tamil Nadu, police have denied permission to hold special prayers and Annadanam in the temples.

One such instance from Thoothukudi (DMK MP Kanimozhi’s constituency) has come to light.

In the above letter, BJP functionary Mari Duraisamy and one Revathi Selvakrishnan had asked permission from the local police for special poojas and bhajan programmes to be held at the Then Thirupperai Perumal Temple.

The police denied permission saying three reasons:

  • permission (from police) should’ve been sought 15 days before
  • since temple is ‘owned’ by HR&CE department, permission letter from them should’ve also been taken which was not done
  • since there is a law & order issue in Srivaikuntam region, Section 30(2) of CrPC is in effect

The police have stated that strict action would be taken against those who violate and hold the events at the temple.

BJP Tamil Nadu President K. Annamalai condemned the DMK government saying, “It seems that the DMK government, which is engaged in anti-Hindu activities in the name of running a secular government, has banned special pujas and food offerings in Tamil Nadu temples. What right does the DMK government have to interfere in temple practices? Apart from that, it is said that the police should not hold any program on behalf of the temple administration or the public in Tamil Nadu in view of the installation of the statue of Sri Ram and should not broadcast live through a big screen for the public to see.

He further said “Temples in Tamil Nadu belong to devotees.

17-Year-Old Girl Dies In Govt Hospital In Vizhuppuram, Parents Allege Medical Negligence By ‘Trainee Doctors’

The passing of a 17-year-old schoolgirl undergoing treatment at government hospital in Vizhuppuram has put the spotlight on the plight of health care in Tamil Nadu under Dravidian Model rule.

Subhasree, a 12th-grade student, was admitted to the Government Medical College Hospital in Mundiyambakkam, Villupuram, for abdominal pain. Subsequently, she received treatment for liver and kidney infections, and following a neck injection tragically experienced convulsions leading to her untimely demise.

The doctors later clarified that, according to the scan, the pancreas appeared normal, but there was a slight swelling in the liver and gallbladder, and the cause of this mild enlargement was undetermined which untimely led to the demise.

The family raised concerns about the decision to administer a neck injection to a patient admitted for abdominal pain. They confronted the hospital administration alleging wrongful treatment as the cause of death. This led to protests on the Chennai-Trichy highway road seeking justice, and the police intervened, promising action after the filing of a formal complaint.

The family continued to assert that improper medical care was responsible for the student’s premature death, emphasizing the need for accountability and actions against the implicated doctors.

Endocrinologist Dr. Karthik Balachandran explained that “administering a neck injection is a recognized medical practice, citing examples like Diabetic keto-acidosis. Moreover, the exclusive involvement of resident doctors in patient care is a common practice in teaching hospitals globally.”

“To identify potential lapses in care, Morbidity & Mortality meetings are in place, where doctors analyze circumstances surrounding a patient’s death, ensuring adherence to established standards and protocols. Mere following protocols doesn’t eliminate the possibility of adverse outcomes but this indicates that doctors followed the accepted best course of action under the given circumstances”.

Another individual on the internet posed a question to the doctor asking, whether they would allow their child to be treated solely by a trainee doctor for the same issue. The suggestion was that senior doctors should handle patient care, with trainees accompanying them to gain experience. The concern expressed was that the situation should not resemble a scenario where trainee doctors are practicing independently while senior doctors take a backseat.

The same individual questioned whether such an absence of senior doctors would occur in a private hospital?.

Another individual expressed the viewpoint that trainee doctors should not handle critical cases. The rationale behind this perspective is that trainee doctors are designated as such for a specific reason, suggesting that complex and serious cases should exclusively be managed by experienced medical professionals.

However, this is not the first instance of such allegations of medical negligence in Tamil Nadu government hospitals have surfaced.

In September 2023, Jyoti, a 32-year-old woman from Chennai, underwent angio treatment at Rajiv Gandhi Hospital, was initially in good health. Following the procedure, her treated arm became swollen, and blood clots developed. Allegations of negligent treatment surfaced, with her husband, Zeenath, a physically challenged person, claiming the doctors provided no explanation and removed flesh from her limbs.

Ancient Temples Demolished To Make Way For Plots In Tamil Nadu’s Namakkal

Feature Image Courtesy: Kumudam

In Namakkal district lies Chengapalli Panchayat, a tranquil locale now caught in the midst of a heated controversy. What was once an unassuming plot of land along the Mohanur to Paramathi Vellore route has become the epicenter of a dispute involving ancient idols, a mysterious temple, and allegations of corruption.

The saga began when a resident of Kapilarmalai acquired 6 1/2 acres in the bus stand area of Chengapalli Panchayat, undertaking the task of transforming the land into a house site. As the Pokline underwent repairs, an unexpected discovery was made — a temple-like structure housing idols of Shiva, Vinayaka, and a concealed subterranean temple.

The owner of the Niel estate swiftly decided to dismantle the dilapidated temple structure and remove the ancient idols overnight. This move, however, did not go unnoticed by vigilant villagers, who promptly lodged a complaint with the district collector in November 2023.

Mohanur Tahsildar Janaki took swift action, ordering a halt to any leveling of the land without the involvement of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). Despite this directive, reports suggest that the landowners continued their activities, employing 50 tippers to dump sand and level the contested area illegally.

Last week, irate villagers lodged a formal complaint with the Namakkal District Collector, urging immediate intervention. Kamaraj, the individual who filed the complaint, revealed, “Last October, we discovered ancient idols of Lord Shiva, Lord Muruga, and Hanuman. The Tahsildar inspected the site, but no archaeological survey was conducted. Evidence of an ancient temple was found, yet no legal action was taken.”

Kamaraj further alleged the complicity of Chengapalli Panchayat president Nandakumar, a member of the DMK party. “He takes lakhs of rupees and allows them to do this work,” claimed Kamaraj, questioning the government’s reluctance to conduct archaeological research.

The situation escalated when a Sivanadiyar performed a puja at the site, only to meet an untimely demise the following day after the statues were discarded. Villagers now fear the erasure of ancient history and the destruction of the site, accusing officials of accepting bribes to facilitate the construction of flats.

Chengapalli Panchayat president Nandakumar denied any involvement, stating, “I have nothing to do with it. Ask them to buy land. I didn’t do anything.”

At the Mohanur Tahsildar’s office, sources revealed, “The Tahsildar has been transferred in this issue. Money flows into crores of bribes. The Collector himself will not go to the place to inspect. That’s the situation now.”

Kanimozhi Criticises Annamalai Over Remarks On Udhayanidhi Interview, Netizens Show Her Videos Of Vulgar Statements Made By Udhayanidhi & Other DMK Cadres

The recent interview featuring DMK Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin and Dravidianist journalist Kathigaichelvan, the Editor of News18 Tamil, has come under criticism for the perceived lack of rigor in the questions directed at the DMK leader. Many have voiced dissatisfaction with the seemingly informal tone of the interview. Tamil Nadu Bharatiya Janata Party President K Annamalai expressed discontent with the quality of questions, deeming them unserious and characterising the overall interview as excessively “friendly.” Annamalai has openly shared his disapproval during discussions with news reporters, providing further insights into his perspective on the matter.

Annamalai received “backlash” from DMK members and supporters for his using the phrase, “carefully done with touching the teeth”. DMK MP and half-sister to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin criticised the comments made by Annamalai. Taking to social media platform X, Kanimozhi wrote, “Recently BJP leader Mr. @annamalai_k made derogatory remarks about a minister of a state and a senior journalist, these are strongly condemned. A person doing this constantly lowers the quality of politics. I strongly condemn this.”

Netizens were quick to point out her step-nephew Udhayanidhi Stalin’s speeches and comments from the past. They pointed out to Kanimozhi whether she cared to condemn her step-nephew and state minister’s speeches and comments.

In an undated video shared by a netizen, Udhayanidhi is seen saying, “I said Edappadi’s rule, someone said no not Edappadi’s rule, Assistant’s rule. Assistant? Whose assistant? Modi’s assistant (someone who does menial jobs). Another one said, no he is not an assistant, he is a dead body! Dead body? Yes, he lay down like that, he fell at Sasikala’s feet like that only (indicating how EPS prostrated in front of Sasikala in 2016), going under the tables and chairs there, he would have gone between her legs also.” The crowd can be seen laughing hysterically over the “joke”.

Udhayanidhi also has shared photos derogating former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa. In the post, he wrote, “Close enough! I promise this is not photoshop”. In the post, he posted two pictures: one featuring Jayalalithaa during her days as an actor, and the other showcasing actor Namitha. Both of them raised their hands in a pose for the pictures.

Some others shared a collection of clippings of various speeches and statements made by the DMK cadre. Here is a collection of 12 clippings featuring different members of the DMK who have made vulgar speeches.

In the first video, a speaker belonging to the DMK says “Can you respond like Kalaignar? In 1957, Kalaignar and Anna spoke for 2 hours in the Assembly – We want a separate state, we want Dravidanadu. After speaking for 2 hours, Anna sits down. He was asked, “Mr Annadurai, where is Dravidanadu?” Anna thought, I spoke for 2 hours and this woman is asking me where is Dravidanadu. Kalaignar immediately gets up and says, Respected Speaker, our leader spoke for 2 hours about Dravidanadu, about the history, you listened to all this and the member asks where is Dravidanadu? Remove the naada (thread) and lift the skirt (pavadai) you can find Dravidanadu!”

In another video, A Raja says, “Stalin was born from a legitimate relationship and through a “healthy and normal” delivery, EPS was born out of wedlock/illegitimate relationship.”

Shivaji Krishnamoorthy who is known to run his mouth unnecessarily making vulgar and crass comments has been featured 4 times in this clipping collection. In the first clipping, “Why Okkala Oli (cuss word in Tamil), the wastrel who sold tea, the one who goes around the world in people’s money, do you want Okkala Oli Narendra Modi or do you want Rahul Gandhi, the one who gave his own wealth to the country?” Then he goes on to speak a few words in Hindi mimicking Modi.

In another clipping, he is seen saying “The ADMK cadres at the bottom, they said, let us make Chinnamma a mother. What I thought was Natarajan (Sasikala) could not make her a mother (pregnant) in these 32 years, how will these people do it?”

In another clipping, he says, “In ADMK there used to be a CR Shastri, an old anda (big vessel). They would repeatedly coat it with metal and over the years, it got destroyed. That anda would come and stand at the door. She would say, I just combed my mother’s hair, she said make it a bun and not a braid, she ate idli, I gave her sambar too, she asked why Sarasu why is the dal not mashed, I told her this is Amma’s dal and it is not mashing well. Earlier they called her Chinnamma instead of Sasikala. Now they are calling her Sasikala, the servant maid. You guys rolled and licked the servant maids, you p*tta B**** (bastards?)”

In yet another clipping, he says, “Immediately Narendra Modi says Rahul Gandhi Pappu. I don’t know what that means in Hindi. Is it monkey? Now he has been travelling for the past one month, he now says sappu (suck it)”

A DMK member says, “There was a guy named Velumani. Do you know how he looks? He hasn’t been to Bombay to get his operation done. Yes, he looks just like that.” (indicating transgender features).

In another video featuring Gudiyatham Ramesh (who was recently in the news for exposing Duraimurugan’s alleged corruption through illegal sand smuggling), says, “They bring an item from Kodambakkam called Vindhya (Kollywood actor), she acted in Sangamam movie, she is a number 1 item, an Andhra piece, she went to Bangalore, was an item there, then went to Hyderabad, Rajahmundhry, did prostitution in lodges and then when she went to Hosur for a shooting, a producer who went to ask for her to return the loan he gave her, she said that he raped her and filed a complaint in the police station. The police took VIndhya and admitted her to Hosur Govt hospital and tested if she was indeed raped. The doctors who tested her were shocked. They said there is no need to rape her, she has no virginity, she is a number 1 platform item, take her away they said.”

75th Republic Day Parade At Kartavya Path To Celebrate Women Empowerment Through ‘Viksit Bharat’ And ‘Bharat – Loktantra Ki Matruka’ Themes

In a historic move, the upcoming 75th Republic Day Parade at Kartavya Path on 26 January 2024, is set to be a spectacle of women empowerment, echoing the themes of ‘Viksit Bharat‘ and ‘Bharat – Loktantra ki Matruka.’ Defence Secretary Giridhar Aramane, during a press conference in New Delhi on 19 January 2024, revealed that women would take center stage, forming the primary contingent in the parade.

Emphasizing the significance of the themes, Aramane highlighted that they align with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of India being the “Mother of democracy.” The parade aims to celebrate the country’s rich cultural diversity, unity, and progress through the participation of women marching contingents.

A groundbreaking aspect of this year’s Republic Day Parade is the introduction of an all-women Tri-Service contingent, marking a historic moment in the nation’s military history. Additionally, the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) contingents will also feature women personnel, presenting an unparalleled representation of women in the parade.

Setting a harmonious tone, the parade will commence with the melodious tunes of traditional Indian musical instruments played by a group of 100 women artists. Instruments like SankhNadaswaram, and Nagada will resonate through the air, creating a unique and empowering atmosphere.

Adding a touch of artistic grandeur, the Ministry of Culture will showcase the ‘Anant Sutra – The Endless Thread’ textile installation at Kartavya Path. This visually-stunning tribute to the saree, a timeless Indian garment, will feature nearly 1,900 sarees and drapes from across the country. The installation will be mounted at a height with wooden frames along the Kartavya Path, creating a captivating display of India’s weaving and embroidery arts. QR codes attached to the installation will allow spectators to delve into the details of each saree, exploring the diverse craftsmanship that makes them unique.

Highlighting the cultural festivities, the third edition of the Vande Bharatam dance competition will be a captivating part of the Republic Day Celebrations 2024. Groups of women artists will showcase their talent at Kartavya Path, with around 200 performers dazzling the audience in front of the Saluting Dais.

The Republic Day Parade is scheduled to start at 10:30 AM and will run for approximately 90 minutes. The Kartavya Path, with a seating capacity of 77,000, will reserve 42,000 seats for the public, providing an opportunity for citizens to witness and celebrate this extraordinary showcase of women-centric patriotism and cultural richness. The 75th Republic Day Parade promises to be a landmark event, honoring the spirit of democracy and women’s empowerment in India.

“I Wont Apologize” Says BJP TN Annamalai For His Jibe At Udhayanidhi Stalin – Karthigaichelvan Interview

The recent interview between DMK Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin and Dravidianist supporter journalist Kathigaichelvan, the Editor of News18 Tamil, has faced backlash primarily due to the perceived leniency in the questions posed to the DMK leader. Criticism has been particularly vocal about the seemingly casual nature of the interview.

The Tamil Nadu BJP President K Annamalai expressed dissatisfaction with the quality of questions, labeling them as unserious and characterizing the overall interview as a “friendly match”.

On 19 January 2024, at the Pampan Kumaraguru Dasar Swamy temple in Thiruvanmiyur, Chennai, K Annamalai, shared his response to the event by addressing reporters and provided his perspective on the matter.

When he was questioned about Udhayanidhi Stalin’s stance on the Ram Mandir, Annamalai commented, “I watched the interview yesterday and it felt like ‘carefully done without touching the teeth’. It had friendly questions, felt like the interviewer personally coached Udhayanidhi.”

Criticism was promptly directed at K Annamalai for his remarks at Udhayanidhi Stalin, alleging that he had used “derogatory language” and a few media outlets and press clubs demanded apology.

Tamil Nadu BJP Chief K Annamalai, responding to criticism after attending the Khelo India Youth Games in Chennai on 9 January 2024, rejected all claims during a meeting with reporters.  He expressed confusion over the controversy surrounding his speech, emphasizing that his use of colloquial language and the specific dialect from the Kongu region of Tamil Nadu had been misunderstood.

K Annamalai defended his speech by highlighting the context in which he spoke and criticized the media for misinterpreting his words. refuting all the allegations he stated “If I speak in a dialect that belongs to Kongu part of Tamil Nadu they are accusing me. Their problem is not with Annamalai’s speech, for Tamil Nadu press organizations, the problem is with Annamalai not with his speech. In my home, in a farming family, to milk a cow… cow teat will be massaged with oil, watched carefully after that the calf his fed and after all this we will milk the cow. When feeding, it’s important to attentively observe the calf, ensuring that its teeth do not touch, while also gently massaging it to facilitate milking.”

He also addressed the interview as a coaching given to Udhayanidhi, a political figure, likening it to massaging a cow’s teat by applying the oil without teeth touching.

He said “In this, I do not know what is wrong.  One news organization asks for ‘Apologies!’, another organization says ‘we will protest’ another says ‘we will boycott”

However, Annamalai maintained his stance, refusing to apologize and asserting that he saw no mistake in his words. He urged critics to seek psychological evaluation if they found his speech problematic. He concluded by suggesting that the controversy was not about his speech but rather an attempt by certain groups to oppose him and elevate someone else.

“In my speech I carefully realize and understand what I speak. Day after tomorrow too I’ll use the same dialect. he said adding that there is a gang for this in Tamil Nadu which teaches malice and sees malignity in whatever word said.”

Annamalai insisted that the interview questions were inappropriate and questioned the intentions behind them. He argued that his speech was being deliberately misinterpreted by certain groups with an agenda

He added “The anchor should clarify how the interview was performed. If you ask me as a political party how the question was for Udhayanidhi Stalin means, ‘You are a famous movie actor from there you’ve come to politics which is tough?’ What are these questions? What is this brother? Is this a setting question?

He conveyed his message clearly by saying “In my speech, unnecessary groups have mixed malice means it will be difficult for you, not me. You are asking a question I am answering straight away that is my style. I’m using colloquial language often. In my town till today the dialect is used, still used in my far. If you don’t understand or if you do not know then Accept that you do not know. Do not teach malignity instead.

“Particularly there is a group sitting and doing this to appease the crown prince by applying and massaging him to create him a big man. Please, make him a big man! If you ask me, my comment will be like this.”, he said.

He finally stated “I’m not person who speaks fearing anyone. For whatever reason be, I wont apologize! Again, if I should use these words I will surely use. According to me, I don’t see even a 1% mistake in it”

VCK Thirumavalavan’s Fear Mongering Speech Surfaces; Urges Christians And Muslims To Vote En Masse To ‘Remove Modi’

Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) Chief Thirumavalavan has stirred controversy by urging Christian and Muslim communities to cast their votes en masse in the upcoming 2024 elections. The VCK leader’s speech took a contentious turn as he labelled the forthcoming election as a “do or die” scenario and warned against the potential return of the BJP to power.

He said, “I have a request for the Muslims. During the elections, when it comes to voting, Muslims and Christians must register 100% attendance on voting day. The 2024 elections is an election that we are meeting in a dangerous situation. An election that will determine our life and death. If by mistake, BJP comes back to power, no one can save this nation and its people. As soon as they come to power, they will throw away the Constitution. They will declare Sanathana Dharma, Varnashrama Dharma, Manu Dharma as the Constitution. They will bring in President’s rule. There will be no elections anymore. This is a dangerous election. There is a situation that Muslim women don’t vote as much as the Muslim men. I am placing a friendly request. I request the Christians. In the elections, both men and women must register 100% votes, all those people abroad must come to their hometown during the elections; if you really wish to remove Modi from power, not one person should be abroad, no one should stay at home, there must be 100% voting. With regard to Tamil Nadu, all 40 seats will be won by the alliance led by DMK. No one can do anything.”

The VCK Chief’s words have drawn criticism for what some perceive as an attempt to manipulate and create fear among religious communities through what is being termed as fake propaganda. Thirumavalavan’s explicit plea for victory for the DMK in Tamil Nadu further adds to the political intensity surrounding his statements.
