Hindu Munnani Sees Red Flag In TN Govt’s Draft Report On Elephant Corridors, Alleges Targeting Of Hindu Temples While Leaving Out Karunya Univ

The Tamil Nadu government and the forest department are targeting exclusively on Hindu temples. Gadeshwara C Subramaniam, the state president of Hindu Munnani, criticizes the Tamil Nadu government for misleading devotees with the elephant route draft report.

He stated, “A deliberate scheme has been devised to cause issues for numerous temples in Tamil Nadu, including Marudhamalai and Velliangiri Hills. The Tamil Nadu Forest Department has recently published a draft report identifying 42 elephant corridors in the state. According to the 2023 report, the elephant population is declining in 20 forest divisions, including five elephant reserves — Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Anamalai, Agastya Malai, and Srivilliputtur. This scheme, purportedly aimed at concealing elephant corridors, is actually intended to obstruct devotees’ access to many temples.

His statement said, “For instance, the Sorimuthayanar temple en route to Agasthiyar in Tirunelveli district has come under the control of the forest department, leading to numerous restrictions on devotees’ entry. Similarly, in Coimbatore district, temples situated along the forest trails, such as Veerakaliamman temple, Kodiveli Amman, and Badrakali Amman, face significant restrictions. The forest department imposes strict limitations on devotees’ access to temples like Poondi and Velliangiri. However, it’s worth noting that elephant corridors have existed for ages in the same area where the disputed Karunya Institute is located. Despite this, due to the intervention of the DMK government, which claims its origin from Christian alms, neither the forest department nor the Tamil Nadu government has taken any action. On the contrary, they continue to criticize the Isha Center, which is involved in environmental awareness and spiritual work.

He added, “In the world-renowned Marudhamalai temple, the elephant corridor is being exploited to inconvenience devotees. This situation necessitates an understanding of historical context. The DMK government remained silent when Christians openly declared their intention to convert Chennimalai into a Christian hill. There is a fear that the DMK government may order the forest department to designate this temple as an elephant corridor, hindering worship at Marudhamalai. This temple is celebrated as the seventh abode of Lord Muruga by Muruga devotees in Kongu mandalam, and it attracts millions of devotees who perform Kavadi and worship. Hindus should understand that if this is allowed, the DMK government will pose a threat to every Murugan temple.

He accused, “Karunya college, located on the Kalkothi-Valayar elephant corridor, has deliberately concealed the damage caused to wild animals, including elephants. Spread over nearly 1,200 acres, Karunya does fall within the elephant corridor. However, it is only the temples that Hindus have been visiting for centuries that are being designated as part of the elephant corridor. This raises questions about the justification of such actions. Is there a separate law for Hindus in Tamil Nadu? Is there a different set of rules for Christians?

For instance, since the DMK government came to power, hundreds of temples have been demolished without providing alternative places for devotees. Reasons such as road expansion, encroachment, and court verdicts are cited, yet the same actions are not taken against places of worship of other religions. Is the DMK government’s atheistic stance the reason behind this hatred towards Hindus?” he said.

He said, “The Tamil Nadu government should not accept the proposal for a new elephant corridor if it infringes upon the rights of Hindus under the guise of elephant protection. Similarly, if there are any obstacles to devotees’ entry at important temples like Marudhamalai and Poondi, Hindu Munnani will mobilize devotees and stage a massive demonstration.

“There’s A Caste To Beg Money In Temples”: DMK Functionary Spews Hate Against Brahmins, Derogates Bharathiyar As ‘Casteist’

The DMK excels in crafting narratives that seamlessly embed themselves in the moment, often intertwining subtle falsehoods within their speeches. Keen observers can discern these untruths upon closer examination. Similarly, party cadres possess a remarkable ability to weave their perspective into intricate webs of storytelling, adeptly presenting their version of events to audiences. Since its inception in 1949, the party has honed this skill through years of political discourse on various stages.

Similarly, the Deputy Secretary of the DMK Student Wing, Amutharasan, recently delivered a speech where he blatantly misrepresented the Nationalist Poet Bharati, targeted Brahmins with derogatory remarks, and mocked Hindu beliefs by using the poems of Barathidasan.

Amutharasan commenced his address by referencing a common belief across Asian Pacific nations that the Sun occupies the highest position, symbolizing his confidence in the victory of the DMK in the election. He expressed optimism that the BJP, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, would not secure a third term. Additionally, he highlighted with pride that Modi’s campaign against the DMK had inadvertently brought the party into the limelight in northern states.

Tamils Lack Vigor And Dignity

Amutharasan immediately criticized the Tamil people, suggesting they lacked vigor and dignity until the emergence of EVR, who introduced rational thinking in the lines of DMK’s own arrogance.

Amutharasan deriding the Tamil community stated, “Thanthai Periyar (EVR) is spread all over India today, Thanthai Periyar’s ideas will rule in India in the times to come. In that way, it was Thanthai Periyar who taught us through wisdom and medicine of self-esteem to the Tamil community that lacked vigor and dignity (Soodum, Soranayum) and made us all live with dignity and rationale today.

Paints Subramania Bharati Casteist

Amutharasan didn’t just stop there; while on the move, he falsely claimed that the nationalist poet Subramania Bharati endorsed the caste system. This assertion was made while introducing Bharathidasan, who, inspired by Bharati, changed his name to denounce superstition, the caste system, and advocate for women’s rights and dignity. The question arises: if Bharati truly supported the caste system, why did Bharathidasan retain his name influenced by Bharati? However, the DMK,  due to Bharati’s Brahmin background, dismisses his influence.

He referenced Subramania Bharati’s lines from poem Vande Mataram “Aayiram Undingu Jaathi” suggesting that they implied support for the caste system, but the truth was quite different. The context of Bharati’s words was a condemnation of the caste system and a call for unity among Indians. He observed that the British, in their colonial strategy, sought to sow divisions among Indians based on religion. Bharati recognized the need for solidarity among Indians, transcending religious differences, to effectively resist colonial rule. By emphasizing unity over religious and caste divisions, Bharati aimed to rally Indians against their common oppressors, challenging the colonial narrative that relied on internal strife. The selective quoting by DMK cadres, often distorts the true message of Bharati’s works.

Quota Caste – Slur On Brahmins & Hindus

Amutharasan stated, “There is nothing called quota castes, Do you know what quota caste is? If you ask to stand in the election, meet the people, feel their pain and suffering, ask them to win their votes and come, they say no, no, I will become Finance Minister in the Rajya Sabha under special quota is a quota caste.”, a ridicule aimed at Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. Later, Amutharasan swiftly remarked that back in 2019, the BJP had embraced the moniker “Chowkidar.” When reporters approached Subramanian Swamy at the airport, inquiring if he had not appended “Chowkidar” to his name, he retorted that, “Bloody nonsense they are Shudravaals, I’m of higher stature, hence I could not add they should add it” mockingly in a Brahmin slang.

The interview was with Thathi TV, Subramanian Swamy stated, “I’m not Chowkidar, I’m Brahmin, So I can’t become a chowkidar (watchman). I will teach them and based on the ideas they/I’ll will follow it.” It should be noted that he refrained from making any comparisons involving the term “Shudras.” Then Amutharasan again ridiculed FM Nirmala Sitharaman based on her Caste identity stating, “The people who come from the tradition of saying don’t put money in the hundi, put money in the plate are the qouta caste.

Amutharasan cited EVR’s articles, which proclaimed that those who immersed themselves in Tamil literature often found spiritual enlightenment. He referenced poets such as Kamban, who was revered as Kambanaatazhvar, Vedhachalam honored as Swami Maramalai Adigal, Sankaradas known as Sankaradasa Swamigal, and Muthusami Kaviraayar revered as Swami Muthuswami. Thiru V Klayana Sundaranar attempted to follow suit but refrained from further pursuit due to criticism from EVR. Consequently, EVR commended Bharathidasan for his steadfast dedication to the cause. Later, Amutharasan argued that the middle class is economically constrained due to their engagement in temple visits, religious rituals, and donations.

He also went on to slander the Brahmin community with “Kannadi Maaniyam” jibe implying that Brahmins got land by making their wives run naked in front of British.

Caste System Not Associated With Brahmins

Caste has been a prevailing system in Tamil Nadu throughout history. Despite repeated condemnation by intellectuals advocating for humanity and unity, Dravidian ideologists often overlook these criticisms and begin their historical narrative only from the era of EVR. For instance, Sangam literature contains numerous references to caste discrimination. Avvaiyar famously said, “Saadhi Irandoliya Verillai saatrangaal needhi vazhuva neri murayil – medhiniyil ittaar periyor idathaar ilikulathaar pattaangil ulla padi,” highlighting the enduring presence of caste discrimination and societal disparities.

Literary researchers argue that archaeological evidence suggests the existence of four categories, there are also mentions of other classifications. This leaves room to speculate that there were divisions beyond these four categories.

What we now call ‘caste’ was previously referred to as ‘Citizen Identity’. Tamils used these identity markers appended to their names. Words denoting these are found in the names of Sangam era individuals. For instance, after the names of kings, we encounter titles like ‘Sempian’, ‘Velir’, and ‘Athan’. The term ‘Athan’ is inscribed on pottery fragments discovered during excavations, indicating its significance. Names like ‘Nalliyathan’, ‘Seralathan’, and ‘Seraman Katungo Vaziyathan’ are derived from this term.

The notion that social identities were not based on birth but on occupation is also debatable. Tolkappiyam, while discussing marital matches, emphasizes the equality in birth and wealth between the bride and groom. Tolkappiyam, the oldest surviving Tamil text, serves not only as a language primer but also as a guide to Tamil life, addressing both familial and societal aspects. Despite its significance, some accuse Tolkappiyam of being influenced by Aryans and of conveying messages inconsistent with Tamil tradition. However, such criticisms ultimately harm Tamil heritage.

Beyond Tolkappiyam, Sangam texts like Purananuru mentions various occupational identities such as ‘Pulaiya’ for those working in the cemetary, ‘Pulaithi’ for washerwomen, and temple dancers. Words like ‘Uyanthor’, ‘Kadaisiyar’, ‘Izhinthor’, and ‘Izhishinan’ appear frequently in Sangam literature.

Not only do terms like ‘Ihindhon’, ‘Oppon’, and ‘Uyanthon’ exist, but there are also prescribed behaviors associated with them. Archeological evidence suggests that goods could be obtained through negotiation. Adopting a broader perspective, as encapsulated in the saying ‘Yatum Ure Yavaru Kalir’, fosters equality and mutual respect, transcending societal divisions.

Congress Functionary Threatens Somaiya Trust For Sacking Pro-Hamas Supporting Principal Parveen Shaikh

Mathew Antony, a member of the Congress party, issued a warning to the Somaiya Trust, implying potential repercussions, subsequent to their decision to terminate Parveen Shaikh, the principal of Somaiya School. Shaikh had garnered attention due to her social media activity, where she expressed unwavering support for Terror outfits such as Hamas, as well as Islamist preacher Zakir Naik, known for anti-Hindu sentiments, and Umar Khalid, considered the mastermind behind the 2020 anti-Hindu Delhi riots.

In an post shared on his verified X profile, Mathew Antony conveyed, “Once MVA comes to power in 2024 October in Maharashtra, Somaiya School will face consequences on this. I have spoken to Parveen Sheikh & have requested the Somaiya Management to stay away from the political trap of taking sides than to maintain neutrality. Seems like they have taken sides with the fundamentalists or their threats. Firing a performer & a long time teacher for 13 years plus Ms.Parveen Sheikh for expressing her independent views outside the campus, you have denied her fundamental rights. The old belief of Congress & others can be managed, is a forgotten past. We will uphold the constitution & the ones who have rejected will face it’s legal consequences as an institution & as a person. It is a pledge that we will do it. Enough of this nonsense.@OfficeofUT @AUThackeray @PawarSpeaks

The Somaiya Trust in Mumbai made the decision on 7 May 2024 to terminate Parveen Shaikh from her position as principal of Somaiya School. This action comes in the wake of an exposé reports revealing Shaikh’s consistent support for terror outfits like Hamas, individuals known for their hostility towards Hindus.

In an official statement issued by the Somaiya Trust, the Mumbai-based school expressed its concern over Shaikh’s personal social media activities, which were found to be in stark contrast with the values upheld by the institution. The statement emphasized that Shaikh’s actions were not in line with the cherished values of unity and inclusivity.

The statement issued by Somaiya Trust read, “Somaiya Vidyavihar, with a legacy of over 80 years, has always upheld the priciples of knowledge, inclusivity, and service as the cornerstone of the educational philosophy. Our motto, ‘Knowledge alone liberates’, reflects our commitment to liberating minds through education fostering understanding and serving humanity.Recently, it has come to our attention that the personal social media activities of Ms, Parveen Shaikh, who holds a leadership position at The Somaiya School, have been starkly misaligned with the values we cherish.

At Somaiya Vidyavihar, we strive to cultivate an environment where knowledge leads to wisdom and uplifts all members of the community, transcending small-mindedness and personal biases. We strongly support the right to freedom of expression, yet we recognize that it is not absolute and must be exercised with responsibility and respect for others.

Given the gravity of these concerns, and after careful consideration, the management has discontinued Ms. Parveen Shaikh’s association with Somaiya Vidyavihar to ensure that our ethos of unity and inclusivity is not compromised, We appreciate your patience and support as we work through this review.

Somaiya Vidyavihar remains dedicated to providing a nurturing educational environment that honors and respects all cultures and beliefs, contributing positively to society and our nation. We believe it is crucial to safeguard the impressionable minds of our youth, and ensure that they are nurtured in an environment that upholds the highest standards of integrity and inclusivity.

Parveen Sheikh Favorably Engaged with Content Backing Hamas terrorist Ismail Haniyeh, ‘Resistance’ Movement Against Israel

Parveen Shaikh’s principal’s Islamist inclinations and her alignment with anti-Indian factions on social media. She frequently approves of Hamas declarations advocating their ‘resistance’ against Israel and endorses figures like Ismail Haniyeh, characterizing her as a staunch supporter of Hamas who justifies its actions as ‘resistance’ or ‘retaliation.’

Parveen Shaikh made a highly controversial statement implying that Prime Minister Narendra Modi acts like a subservient ‘dog’ to Chinese Premier Xi Jinping, using derogatory terms like ‘tommy’ and ‘fetch’. This disturbing behavior on social media is just one example of a larger trend.

In one instance, Shaikh accused Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan of betraying principles by urging the Indian government to resist external interference in domestic affairs.

Parveen Shaikh was observed advocating for the inclusion of Hijabs in government schools, despite the fact that religious attire isn’t obligatory, and the uniform serves as a reasonable limitation on the Right to Freedom of Religion.

Shaikh liked a post by Jackson Hinkle, known for spreading anti-Semitic content and fake news, which glorified the deaths of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh’s children and grandchildren as ‘martyrdom’, suggesting a belief that Hamas is divinely ordained to commit atrocities against Jews. Following the outcry, Somaiya Trust acknowledged the issue, stating, “We were unaware of these sentiments until they were brought to our attention today. We do not condone such views. It’s deeply concerning, and we are investigating the matter.”

Video Of Alleged Chennai Traffic Police Wearing No ID Imposing Fine On Goods Carrier Driver Goes Viral, Driver Says Fine Imposed For No Reason

A video capturing a rental goods carrier engaged in a heated argument with traffic police over a ₹500 fine despite possessing all required documents is gaining traction on social media. The incident unfolded in Chennai’s Kolathur area, where the driver confronted the police about the imposition of the fine, insisting that he had a valid license. The confrontation occurred during a routine vehicle check near the Senthil Nagar signal in Kolathur.

The altercation began when the traffic police stopped a small cargo vehicle carrying school textbooks and attempted to levy a ₹500 fine. The driver of the cargo vehicle Senthamizhan became agitated, questioning the basis for the fine and even challenging the legitimacy of the officer’s identity due to the absence of a name badge on the uniform. Despite presenting his driving license and other necessary documents, the driver felt unjustly targeted by the police.

The Senthamizhan vehemently protested, arguing that he was within the permissible weight limit and demanding an explanation for the alleged violation. Expressing frustration, he remarked sarcastically about the ease of obtaining money by the police, mentioning his educational qualifications as a defense against perceived unfair treatment.

The incident escalated as the driver expressed his discontent, citing his extensive driving experience. Footage of the incident quickly circulated online, prompting public scrutiny of the police’s actions. Subsequently, the driver received a message on his phone informing him of a fine for driving without a license, further fueling outrage among netizens who questioned the basis for such penalties given the driver’s compliance with documentation requirements.

Driver Senthamizhan said “I was carrying a load of school books, Kadambathur is the drop for me from MKB Nagar Vyasarpadi, for me two drops one is Kadambathur and the other one is near Kummidipoondi near Tiruvallur I was coming for it, I was coming via Kolathur route and when I crossed Senthil Nagar signal they put a barricade on the middle of road and asked me to pull over the vehicle. I asked why are you asking me to pull over the vehicle the sergeant present there said ‘Go there they’ll say’. I pulled over the vehicle, the incharge came with me went there and asked ‘what happened sir?’. A school incharge came with me for the books. When he went and asked, he (police) asked to put a small case and leave. He has asked ‘Sir, why should you put a small case and leave without saying anything, what’s this,  for what? . He (police)  asked who are you? he said I am incharge, he (police)  said tell the driver to come, I got down. I (Driver) asked what sir, you don’t know why, you should’ve come why are you sending him to come, just take a case and go. When I (Driver)asked what the case was, he said it was an obstruction case. I (Driver) said sir tell me what obstruction is, he (police)  said obstruction means obstruction, what to say other than that. what obstruction sir, he (police) said I don’t know English, (Driver) I know, I asked you to explain what obstruction is, but he didn’t explain anything, no proper answer was provided.

Afterward, Senthamizhan informed the traffic police that he would document the entire encounter. In response, the officer dismissively retorted, “Do whatever you want.” Later, addressing reporters, Senthamizhan emphasized his qualifications as a postgraduate in mathematics and holder of a degree, asserting his adherence to regulations. He pointed out that his vehicle, a 2021 model, had recently passed its fitness certification, and all his documentation was in order. Frustrated, Senthamizhan expressed disbelief at being fined despite having all the necessary paperwork, suggesting a prevalent trend of extortion—either face legal action or pay a bribe, colloquially known as “entry,” typically amounting to 50 rupees. He also highlighted that he had adhered to the prescribed weight standards, as demonstrated in the video footage. Senthamizhan expressed dismay over the situation, highlighting the challenges of earning a meager daily income and the numerous financial responsibilities associated with running a vehicle and managing household expenses. He found it distressing and appalling that the police were resorting to such methods to extract money from individuals like himself.

Authorities have taken note of the viral video, pledging a thorough investigation and appropriate action against those involved. Concerns have been raised by motorists regarding the indiscriminate imposition of fines by traffic police, calling for clearer directives from higher authorities to ensure fair enforcement of regulations.

Rahul Gandhi’s Citizenship Challenged Again, Validity Of Him Contesting Elections Questioned

A complaint has been lodged against Rahul Gandhi for submitting his candidacy from the Raebareli constituency in Uttar Pradesh. The complaint questions Rahul Gandhi’s citizenship status and challenges the validity of his nomination as approved by the Election Commission.

On 6 May, 2024, the Legal Rights Protection Forum (LRPF) lodged a formal objection with the District Election Officer of Rae Bareli District, Uttar Pradesh, regarding the nomination of Congress scion Rahul Gandhi as a candidate for the Lok Sabha Elections from the Rae Bareli Constituency. The objection centers on concerns about his citizenship status.

LRPF pointed to a notice issued by the Foreigners Division of the Ministry of Home Affairs to Rahul Gandhi on 29 April 2019, requesting clarification on his citizenship status, which remains unresolved. LRPF strongly objected to his candidacy, citing the ongoing ambiguity surrounding his citizenship status and the Ministry’s unanswered inquiry.

The issue stems from a complaint filed in 2019 with the Ministry of Home Affairs, alleging that Rahul Gandhi was listed as a director and secretary of a UK-based company called BackOps Limited, registered in 2003, and had declared his nationality as ‘British’ in the company’s annual returns for 2005 and 2006. In response, the Ministry of Home Affairs issued a notice to Rahul Gandhi, requesting clarification on his citizenship status within two weeks. However, he has not responded to this notice, which LRPF views as a disregard for the Indian government and the nation’s sovereignty.

LRPF emphasized that according to Indian law, dual citizenship is not permitted, and only Indian citizens are eligible to contest elections. Article 84 (a) of the Indian Constitution stipulates that a person must be an Indian citizen to be eligible for Parliament, with a similar provision existing for State Legislative Assemblies in Article 173 (a). Therefore, LRPF urged the District Election Officer to withhold approval of Rahul Gandhi’s nomination until his citizenship status is clarified by the appropriate authorities.

Context

During the 2019 national election halfway mark, Rahul Gandhi received a government directive to address, within a 15-day timeframe, to allegations made by BJP parliamentarian Subramanian Swamy suggesting that he holds British citizenship. Swamy had persistently accused the Congress leader of misleading about his nationality over the years.

Rahul Gandhi is required to provide a “factual” response regarding his citizenship status. In accordance with Indian law, dual nationality is not permitted, and only individuals holding Indian citizenship are eligible to run for elections.

This notification from the home ministry was issued following four rounds of voting in the multi-phase election, during which Rahul Gandhi was contesting from both the Amethi constituency in Uttar Pradesh and the Wayanad constituency in Kerala in 2019.

bflbjgv

The notification issued by BC Joshi, the director overseeing citizenship matters within the home ministry, relies on documentation provided by Subramanian Swamy concerning Backops, a company that Rahul Gandhi had ties to.

the Home ministry wrote ” The ministry has received a representation from Dr. Subramaniam Swamy, Hon’ble MP in which it has been brought out that a company named Blackops Limited was registered in the United Kingdom in the year 2003, with address 51 South gate Street, Winchester, Hampshire SO23 9EH and that you were one of the Directors and Secretary of the said company. It has been further brought out in the complaint that the company’s annual returns filed on 10/102005 and 31/10/2006, your date of birth has been given as 19/06/1970 and that you had declared your nationality as British. Further in the Dissolution application dated 17/02/2009 of the above referred company, your nationality has been, mentioned as British. A copy of letter of Dr. Subramaniam Swamy along with annexure is enclosed. You are requested to intimate the factual position in the matter to this ministry within a fortnight of the receipt of the communication.

Shashi Tharoor’s Article In Bangladeshi Daily Refers To India’s Jammu & Kashmir As ‘India-Administered Kashmir’, Congress Leader Claims Innocence Blaming Editor Of The Newspaper

Once again, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor finds himself in a controversy as his article published in a Bangladeshi newspaper refers the Indian Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir as “India Administered Kashmir,” a term often used by Western media and organizations to dispute India’s claims over Kashmir.

Shashi Tharoor recently penned an op-ed titled “Potential Loss for Modi” in Project Syndicate, which Bangladeshi news outlet The Daily Star later leveraged to bolster their agenda of advocating for Kashmir. The piece challenges the initial assumption of a comfortable victory for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Shashi Tharoor opined that indicators suggest diminishing support for the BJP, with voters feeling disenchanted due to unmet promises, especially concerning job creation and economic well-being.

The Congress leader claimed that despite Modi’s personal popularity, the BJP’s campaign faces apathy and critique, fueled by inflammatory rhetoric against Muslims and opposition parties. The BJP employs various tactics, including absorbing opposition figures, forging alliances, and resorting to intimidation when persuasion fails. However, signs of a resurgence in the opposition and voter fatigue with the BJP’s governance hint at a possible shift in electoral outcomes, particularly in states where the BJP’s dominance is being challenged. Absent recent galvanizing events like the 2019 terrorist attack in Kashmir, the BJP’s electoral prospects appear uncertain, with public dissatisfaction over its performance and a growing confidence among opposition ranks.

Even-though the criticism directed towards Modi and the BJP has been poorly articulated like sentiment sway of votes in 2019 due to Pulwama attack, when referring to Indian states as “administered,” suggesting that Jammu and Kashmir was not originally an integral part of India but acquired later. This stance by a senior Congress MP has sparked widespread criticism on social media.

Shashi Tharoor had written “After all, in 2019, the BJP got a major boost from a terrorist attack on a military convoy in Indian-administered Kashmir, which was carried out just a couple of months before the vote by the Pakistan-based group Jaish-e-Mohammed. With no such event galvanising Indian voters today, the BJP cannot hope to replicate its performance from the last election.

Politically Motivated Appeasement

Congress leader and MP Shashi Tharoor previously echoed a different sentiment where he shared a post on his social media account. The post featured correspondence from British MPs affirming that Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of India, both historically and in perpetuity. The correspondence  forwarded to his counterpart, emphasizing the importance of correcting the notion that J&K is merely administered by India rather than being an integral part of the nation. In that post, Shashi Tharoor was remarked positively on a British MP acknowledging the straightforward reality that Jammu and Kashmir is a state that fully acceded to India in 1947, not merely an “India-administered” territory.

In another post from 2019, Shashi Tharoor asserts that Jammu and Kashmir has been an inseparable part of India since 1947.

After much uproar, Shashi Tharoor in an X post claimed that he “never used such a term in any of his writings or statements anywhere, ever”.

” It has been interpolated by the editors of the newspaper that my syndicated column appeared in. I disavow such language unequivocally, but have no control over what foreign newspaper editors do.”, Shashi Tharoor said.

“NEET Good For Poor Like Us”: TN Students Smash DMK And Dravidian Lobby Anti-NEET Propganda To Smithereens

The idea of banning the National Entrance-cum-Eligibility Test (NEET) in Tamil Nadu appears to be chasing the unicorn, with the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) consistently opposing it for some time. The party’s argument against NEET revolves around its impact on students, the state’s education system, and public dissatisfaction. Initially, Tamil Nadu was given opportunities to transition to the new system, and since 2017, the central government has included nine more languages, including Tamil, providing additional advantages. Now, the DMK’s opposition to banning NEET is diminishing, and both students and parents are expressing optimism about the exam.

More than 150,000 students participated in the NEET held statewide on 5 May 2024. Test takers reported finding the physics section challenging, while the chemistry and biology sections were perceived as comparatively easier.

Over the last three years, there has been a steady increase in the number of students from the state taking the NEET exam 142,000 in 2022, 147,000 in 2023, and 155,000 in 2024. This trend mirrors a national pattern attributed to heightened awareness about NEET and a larger number of students attempting the exam multiple times, according to a teacher from a leading coaching center.

Among the 155,000 candidates this year, 12,370 are from government schools and received coaching from the school education department. Among them, 9,094 were girls and 3,647 were boys. Official figures reveal that in 2023, 12,997 government students appeared for NEET, with 3,982 passing, while in 2022, 14,979 took the exam, and 4,118 succeeded.

Contrary to the overall trend, there hasn’t been a proportional rise in the number of government school students taking NEET. Officials from the education department attribute this to economic constraints preventing many of these students from retaking the exam.

On exam day, large crowds of parents were seen outside examination centers, causing heavy traffic congestion. One parent,

Kavitha, a parent hailing from Maittanpatty village in Madurai, identified herself when speaking to the reporter said, “This is our daughters second attempt. She didn’t get in her first attempt due to low marks. A girl from a village has come once again saying that she will study and pass in it. She has come for her second attempt studied in government school. As far as I’m concerned, it’s good to have NEET because we’re poor who can’t afford to pay lakhs and join. NEET is common, If we pass we’ll get, otherwise not. If there is no NEET, Those of us who do not have ten lakhs, what shall we do? We are farmers. Instead we will arrange marriage for our daughter.” She took pride in her daughter’s resilience as she embarked on her second attempt, despite studying in Tamil medium. She was content with the fact that NEET allowed her daughter to take the exam in her preferred language. Additionally, she emphasized that NEET is advantageous for the economically disadvantaged, while only the affluent tend to oppose it.

Another student, identifying herself as Sandhiya from Mannachanallur, Trichy, expressed to the reporters that, “Last year I gave my first attemot and this is my second attempt. After a year of self study and coaching myself I’m writing this time. Botany, Zoology was easy and like the last year Physics was little tough, chemistry was a bit better. What I am trying to say is that some are saying now that NEET should be exempted, (with hesitation). It is unnecessary, because there is 7.5% reservation for government school students right and because of that even poor are becoming doctors so NEET is very important.”

Afterwards, she recommended to the student to focus on NCERT for their studies. She shared her own experience of attending a government school and highlighted the challenges her family faced in securing a private seat. With a score of 380 marks and the benefit of reservation, she emphasized how crucial it is for individuals to capitalize on reservation opportunities, as it could secure admission into government colleges.

Another student observed that the NEET exam has leveled the playing field for government school students aspiring to become doctors, “Because of the NEET government school students could become doctors or else only private school (students)  were becoming doctors because it was based on the marks, withe the help of NEET many government schools students are entering this is happier development”

From Zubair To TNM To Rahul Gandhi, Here Are Those Who Claimed Rohith Vemula To Be A Dalit Amidst Telangana Police Confirming That He Was Not A Dalit

The Telangana Police have announced the conclusion of their investigation into the tragic death of University of Hyderabad student Rohith Vemula. They asserted that Vemula was not a Dalit and suggested that his suicide may have been driven by fears regarding his “true identity” being exposed.

However, the state’s Director-General of Police (DGP) Ravi Gupta has ordered a further probe into the matter and intends to seek court permission to reopen the case. Gupta’s office released a statement acknowledging doubts expressed by Vemula’s mother and others, prompting the decision to conduct additional investigations. The statement mentioned plans to petition the court for authorization to delve deeper into the case.

This development follows the conclusion of the Cyberabad police’s inquiry, which resulted in the submission of a closure report to a local court. According to this report, Rohith Vemula was not officially recognized as a member of the Scheduled Caste, and he was aware of this fact.

The police report highlighted various issues that may have contributed to Vemula’s decision to take his own life. It mentioned his awareness of his non-Scheduled Caste status and the possibility of facing legal consequences if his caste certificate, allegedly obtained fraudulently, were exposed. Furthermore, the police absolved several individuals, including politicians and university officials, of any involvement in Vemula’s death. They stated that there was insufficient evidence to support claims that the actions of these individuals led to his suicide.

Background

Rohith Vemula’s suicide on 17 January 2016, sparked widespread outrage and protests throughout India. The incident ignited a political controversy, with leaders from various parties debating its significance. In his final note, Vemula lamented how society reduced individuals to mere identities and statistics, rather than recognizing their humanity and potential. His death brought attention to issues of caste discrimination and social inequality within India’s higher education system, particularly regarding the challenges faced by Dalit students.

Before his death, Rohith Vemula was actively involved in advocating for social justice and combating discrimination. His suicide note, expressing his anguish over societal injustices, further fueled conversations about caste-based discrimination in Indian universities.

The suicide, believed to be a result of caste discrimination and oppression, has ignited widespread controversy, with figures ranging from Scion Rahul Gandhi of the Congress party to self-proclaimed fact-checkers like Mohammed Zubair using it to condemn the BJP. Additionally, voices such as Dalit rights activist Kancha Ilaiah Shepherd have highlighted the significant implications of Vemula’s death for the Dalit movement and the larger discourse on oppression and discrimination.

Was Rohith Vemula A Dalit Or Not?

The dispute regarding Rohith’s caste arose when his brother Raja Vemula’s certificate identified him as a ‘Vaddera,’ an OBC category in Andhra Pradesh. It later emerged that Rohith’s father, Mani Kumar, belonged to the Vaddera community, while his mother was Mala. Allegedly, Mani Kumar abandoned the family upon learning of Radhika’s Dalit identity due to his alcoholism. Consequently, Rohith, who apparently had no relationship with his father, identified with his mother’s caste and was allegedly raised as Mala. The state also issued a show-cause notice to Rohith’s family in connection with the matter.

The District-Level Scrutiny Committee (DLSC) had received statements from seven individuals, and Rohith’s father, Mani Kumar, and his paternal grandmother, Raghavamma asserted that Rohith did not belong to the Dalit community. The rest 5 – Rohith’s mother, Radhika Vemula, his brother Raja Vemula, his sister Neelima, his paternal grandfather, and his adopted maternal grandmother – said that he was a Dalit.

The Guntur district administration in 2017, assigned by the Andhra Pradesh government to probe the caste status of Rohith Vemula declared that he did not belong to the Dalit community. According to the findings of a committee, the state government opted to invalidate Rohith’s Scheduled Caste certificate.

Following an inquiry spanning more than a year, the District-Level Scrutiny Committee (DLSC) had additionally accused Rohith and his mother, Radhika Vemula, of “fraudulently” obtaining the certificate.

The Supreme Court in Rameshbhai Dabhai Naika Vs. State of Gujarat order said “In an inter- caste marriage or a marriage between a tribal and a non-tribal there may be a presumption that the child has the caste of the father. This presumption may be stronger in the case where in the inter-caste marriage or a marriage between a tribal and a non-tribal the husband belongs to a forward caste. But by no means the presumption is conclusive or irrebuttable and it is open to the child of such marriage to lead evidence to show that he/she
was brought up by the mother who belonged to the scheduled caste/scheduled tribe. By virtue of being the son of a forward caste father he did not have any advantageous start in life but on the contrary suffered the deprivations, indignities, humilities and handicaps like any other member of the community to which his/her mother belonged. Additionally, that he was always treated a member of the community to which her mother belonged, not only by that community but by people outside the community as well.

In an instance in April 2019, the Bombay High Court remanded a case to a Scrutiny Committee for review, opening the possibility for a daughter to assert her mother’s Other Backward Class (OBC) status instead of her father’s Scheduled Caste (SC) status. Referencing the Naika verdict, the judgment remarked, “Our society has traditionally not embraced matriarchy. However, the winds of change are now blowing.”

Based on the orders of Supreme Court and Delhi High Court, the Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment has notified that if the child has been brought up in the surroundings of a notified community to which a separated mother belongs to and has suffered the deprivations, indignities, humilities and handicaps like any other member of that community then he or she is entitled to claim SC status. However, each case would be examined in light of existing facts and circumstances.

Shameless Exploitation of Vemula’s Death for Political Gain

Vemula’s tragic death was shamelessly manipulated to fuel a divisive political agenda, setting pitting people particularly students in college campuses along caste lines. Both Rahul Gandhi and AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal spared no effort in targeting the government, exploiting the sensitive incident for their own political gain. Their actions not only capitalized on a poignant tragedy but also exacerbated existing societal rifts.

In 2017, Rahul Gandhi tweeted, “They say Rohit Vemula committed suicide. I call it murder. He was murdered by the indignities he suffered. He was killed because he was a Dalit. Hitler, once wrote: Keep a firm grasp on reality, so you can strangle it at any time This is what is happening today-strangulation of reality”

Speaking in the Parliament, Rahul Gandhi said “Rohith Vemula had asked a question – What’s my mistake? I’m a Dalit. Why are you killing me because of that? Why am I being suppressed? – He asked these questions.”

Rahul Gandhi had joined student protesters at the Hyderabad Central University and even likened Rohith Vemula to Mahatma Gandhi. Interesting, many news outlets like the NDTV too identified Rohith as a “Dalit” Research Scholar.

Critiquing the Modi administration regarding Vemula’s tragic demise, Arvind Kejriwal asserted that Rohith Vemula felt compelled to end his life “for discussing BR Ambedkar among peers.” He urged the dismissal of the “two ministers” implicated. Kejriwal also sarcastically questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi, pondering if honoring Dalit leader’s portraits was adequate to realize his aspirations. He lamented the lack of freedom of expression within the nation.

Arvind Kejriwal stated, “Vemula was forced to commit suicide for talking about Babasaheb among students. Why are people who are holding constitutional offices not acting against those who forced him to commit suicide? Will Babasaheb’s dream be fulfilled by the Prime Minister going to Mhou and garlanding his portrait? Babasaheb gave three words liberty, equality and fraternity…”

The pro-Congress Islamist propagandist Mohammed Zubair peddled the same narrative, which claimed, “Rohit Vimula’s mother slams BJP/RSS and News Channels for twisting facts for Political gains. Hey @republic & @TimesNow, ask your Telegu representatives to get this translate for you.” Even in the video, she asserts that the BJP and RSS are criticizing her for receiving money and speaking out against Modi, but she emphasizes that her actions were entirely self-driven. Notably the video circulated lacks any relevance to the Dalit or non-Dalit issue.

And who can miss out the leftist-Dravidianist propaganda outlet The News Minute (TNM) which has been at the forefront along with other leftist outlets like The Wire to establish Rohith as a Dalit.

After the closure report of the Telangana Police, TNM published an elaborate piece calling it an “identity theft” of Rohith on why Rohith should be re-certified and not doing so is a crime.

The question is not whether Rohith Vemula was a Dalit or not but how he got his Caste Certificate and what was the caste mentioned in his certificate which has got silenced in the political noise surrounding his death.
