Honouring The Silent Pillar: Mothers, The Unseen Strength Behind India’s Chess Prodigies

Mother Of Chess Grandmasters Praggnanandhaa And Vaishali

In Hinduism, our ancestors have said that God performs the functions of “creating, maintaining, and destroying” the universe, but the energy or power used for performing these functions is known as Shakti the Divine Mother. This is why there’s a tradition of worshipping the mother figure, both as the cosmic energy (Shakti) and the earthly mother.

“Maatri Devo Bhavah” means “Mother is like God” and it states that a mother’s love and care have divine qualities, which are of equal importance as that given to God. Yakshan asked Yudhishtir, “What is heavier than the Earth?” Yudhishtir said that a person’s mother is heavier than the Earth. Here Heavier is in the sense of importance, respect, and high regard, what he really means is that the importance and value of a mother are greater than anything else, even something as large as the Earth. It shows that a mother’s love and affection are incredibly crucial and beyond comparison. This article will discuss Mrs. Nagalakshmi, who is the mother of the chess prodigies Pragnannadha Ramesh Babu and Vaishali Ramesh Babu, both of whom have made not only their mother but the entire nation of Bharat proud.

We can observe the tremendous efforts the sibling duo has made over the past year, making Bharat proud and leading us in a way that the upcoming generation is more inclined towards Chess as a career. There are several articles, newspapers, and YouTube videos about the prodigies/ world Champions, but there is a silent pillar supporting their back all the time, and that pillar is Mrs. Nagalakshmi. Nagalakshmi – Naga refers to a serpent or snake, which in Hindu history symbolizes protection, power, or wisdom. Lakshmi refers to the Hindu goddess of wealth, prosperity, and good fortune.

True to her name, she has taken excellent care of her children by providing emotional support and travelling with them to all corners of the world and has gained a wealth of pride as a parent, which has become very rare in this age of Kaliyuga. Not only does she care for her children, but she also carries the pride of Bharat on her behalf. Hailing from a middle-class family in Chennai, where her husband, Ramesh Babu, works as a bank employee, with no particular background in chess, the couple gave birth to Bharat’s golden children.

Initially, to distract them from watching television, the parents introduced them to chess, and the sibling duo quickly became captivated by the game, and the rest, as they say, is history. In an interview given by Nagalakshmi to a private channel, one can see how simple their life is, like a bird gathering every twig to build a nest their family is their nest.

Watching the interview, one can see clearly that the only dream she holds is the dream of her children and Bharat. Her humble and respectful manner of speaking, coupled with her innocent smile, reflects the pain and sacrifices they have endured. Despite everything, she stands as a powerful mother, raising her children is beyond comprehension. Our champion Pragg’s favourite food is Rasam and rice. Our mother, Nagalakshmi, carries a stove and Indian spices/masalas to ensure her children experience all the comforts that does not affect their game. She not only provides emotional support but also attends to every aspect of comfort to help her children achieve the Indian dream. Pragg, after defeating World No. 3 Champion Fabiano Caruana, the legendary Russian GM Garry Kasparov remarked, “Congratulations to Praggnanandhaa and his mother; it’s a special kind of support.”

Even the greatest of all time recognises the power of a mother’s love, care, and affection, particularly that of Mrs. Nagalakshmi. On Sunday, 22 September 2024, Nagalakshmi experienced double joy as both of her children won gold medals in the world’s most prestigious biennial team chess event. GM Praggnanandhaa was a vital member of the men’s team and vice versa, Vaishali of the women’s team contributed to Bharat’s title victory.

Former women’s World Chess Champion Legendary Susan Polgár celebrated the remarkable achievements of the brother-sister duo, calling them “the greatest in chess history.” Polgár referred to Nagalakshmi as an “Amazing Chess Mom.” “I had to meet this incredible Chess Mom, who devoted her life to raising two super Chess Stars!” Polgár posted, sharing photos with Nagalakshmi, Praggnanandhaa, and Vaishali.

While people are running towards fame, money, wealth, and other means for a luxurious lifestyle, she stands as a role model for mothers everywhere. She exemplifies the strength of a mother and the lengths to which she will go for her children. As long as the chess remains Nagalakshmi and her innocent smile cannot be forgotten.

We, as Indians, pay our respects to this esteemed mother, and at this moment, we express our gratitude for all her contributions to Bharat. At this moment, we must express our gratitude to other remarkable mothers, Dr. Padma, mother of GM Gukesh, Jyothi, mother of champion Arjun Erigaisi who has been referred to as the “mad man on the chessboard” by World Champion No. 1 Magnus Carlsen and Nikita Santosh Gujrathi, mother of Vidit Gujrathi, for their contributions and sacrifices made for their children’s dreams and for Bharat’s dream. No words could adequately convey our gratitude to them for their Contributions.

The West often characterizes Indians as being emotional, and indeed, we are deeply emotional when it comes to the child-bearers who have sacrificed their own comforts to give us life. Their devotion is akin to that of Brahma, who is the creator of us. In Indian culture, mothers hold a very special and respected position, often seen as maa, ammu, amma, bai, bhabho maoj – Mother, the primary caregiver, and nurturer of the family.

This deep connection comes from both cultural and religious traditions, where the concept of “mother” is associated with love, sacrifice, and care. Many Indians grew up experiencing a deep bond with their mothers, who are often seen as embodying qualities like selflessness and unconditional support. This is why people in India tend to be more emotionally attached to their mothers and place significant value on their role in the family and society.

Indians basically have a deep-rooted tradition of honouring and expressing pure love for their mothers. This is why we have gone further a step by saying the Bengali writer Kiran Chandra Banerjee’s words “Bharat Mata ki Jai,” which refers to India as our beloved mother. As long as these values remain with us, no external force can destabilize us or tarnish the values of Hindu History. At this moment, we want to take the opportunity to thank and acknowledge all the mothers around the world who have sacrificed everything for their children. We extend our deepest respect to them.

Jai Hind, Bharat Mata Ki Jai, Vande Mataram.

“Chanting Bharat Mata Ki Jai Is Not Hate Speech” Tells Karnataka HC While Quashing FIR Filed By Police Based On Muslim Man’s Complaint

In a recent ruling, the Karnataka High Court declared that chanting “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” cannot incite discord but rather fosters national unity. Justice K Nagaprasanna observed while quashing an FIR filed against five men—Suresh, Vinay, Ranjan, Dhananjay, and Subhas—accused of promoting communal enmity. The FIR was lodged after a Muslim man claimed the petitioners had threatened him by raising the slogan.

The petitioners, residents of Ullal taluka, stated that on June 9, after attending a celebration for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s swearing-in, they were attacked by 25 individuals. Two of the petitioners were allegedly stabbed, and the attackers questioned their chanting of “Bharat Mata Ki Jai.” The petitioners filed a complaint against the attackers, but later an FIR was registered against them under Section 153A of the IPC, which deals with promoting enmity between religious groups.

On September 20, while dismissing the FIR, the High Court ruled that investigating the case would effectively mean investigating the slogan “Bharat Mata Ki Jai,” which does not promote religious disharmony. Justice Nagaprasanna called the FIR a “counterblast” to the petitioners’ original complaint and noted that the case failed to meet any of the provisions required under Section 153A.

He emphasized that Section 153A pertains to promoting enmity between religious groups, but in this instance, it had been misused. The judge stated, “This is a clear case of retaliation, not a genuine violation of the law.” The court dismissed the FIR, deeming the allegations unfounded.

“Your Family Has Been Doing Naach-Gaana All Their Lives”, UP CM Yogi Adityanath Shoots Back At Cong Leader Rahul Gandhi For His Naach Gaana Comment On Pran Prathishta Event

"Your Family Has Been Doing Naach-Gaana All Their Lives", UP CM Yogi Adityanath Shoots Back At Cong Leader Rahul Gandhi For His Naach Gaana Comment On Pran Prathishta Event

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, campaigning for the party for the upcoming elections in Haryana has once again made derogatory statements surrounding the Pran Prathishta event of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya held in January 2024.

These remarks were met with severe opposition from BJP leaders, UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in particular.

What Did Rahul Gandhi Say?

During the campaign, speaking at a public gathering in Hisar, Haryana, he said, “Why did you lose in Ayodhya, when the temple was opened in Ayodhya, Adani was there, Ambani was there, Amitabh Bachchan was there, and the whole of Bollywood was there. But you did not see a single poor farmer, it is the truth. That is why Avdesh has defeated them, Avdesh is the MP from there, Avdesh Kumar, who won in Ayodhya, he won, and that is why the whole of India is watching, Bhaiya, you opened the Ram temple first. You told the President that you are tribal, you cannot come inside, you are not allowed. You invited Amitabh Bachchan, Adani, and Ambani, you did not allow a single labourer to come. Did you see a carpenter, a farmer, a labourer? No one, song and music event (naach gaana) are going on, the press people are saying hai hai hai, song and music event (naach gaana) is going on, dance is going on, the whole of India is dancing.”

Yogi Adityanath Responds Sharply

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi was addressing a public meeting in Bawani Khera, Haryana. Responding to the crass comments made by Rahul Gandhi, he said, “On January 22, the wait of 500 years ended. Ram Lalla was enthroned in Ayodhya. The whole world was overwhelmed, but these unlucky Congressmen who grew up with Rome culture, those who call themselves accidental Hindus unfortunately, couldn’t handle this. He said that when the temple for Ram Lalla was being inaugurated in Ayodhya, song and dance event was happening (naach gaana). Your entire family has been doing only this all their life. That is why to insult Hindus, to curse our Hindu culture and tradition and these people go outside India and curse the country and call themselves accidental Hindus. By putting India’s tradition and its constitutional institutions at stake, they are questioning our own standards and our own capabilities. This is the difference between Ram’s culture and Rome’s culture. Every person brought up in Ram’s culture kept fighting for 500 years with Ram Sankalp. Its result is in front of us today. Lord Ram is enthroned again.”

Proportion Of SC & ST As Sanitation Workers Is Disproportionately More Compared To OBCs, 8% Of Those Who Clean Sewers Are From GC Reveals Survey

Proportion Of SC & ST As Sanitation Workers Is Disproportionately More Compared To OBCs, 8% Of Those Who Clean Sewers Are From GC Reveals Survey

The Hindu article on the initiative of the central government’s NAMASTE programme wrote about how the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment has profiled around 38,000 sanitation workers across 3,326 urban local bodies (ULBs) from 29 States and Union Territories. The article states that data shows 91.9% of these workers come from Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), or Other Backward Class (OBC) communities. 377 deaths have been recorded between 2019 and 2023 due to manual scavenging work.

The total number of Sewer and Septic Tank Workers (SSWs) profiled was 38,000 workers. Of these 68.9% were said to be from Scheduled Castes (SC), 14.7% from Other Backward Classes (OBC), 8.3% from Scheduled Tribes (ST), and 8% from the General category.

As of 2021, there are 1 lakh sewer and septic tank workers in India.

  • States that completed profiling: 12 States/UTs (including Kerala, Rajasthan, Jammu and Kashmir)
  • States where profiling is still underway: 17 States (including Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh)
  • States that haven’t begun profiling: Chhattisgarh, Meghalaya, West Bengal

Additionally, a total of 58,098 manual scavengers have been identified (pre-2018) and the article states that 97.2% of them are from the SC communities.

Failed Social Justice Models

While the government’s programme aims to address hazardous sewer and septic tank cleaning in India, the demographic data of those engaged in this dangerous work reveals a disturbing social reality. Of the 38,000 workers profiled, 76% belong to Scheduled Caste (SC) or Scheduled Tribe (ST) communities, which together make up only about 22-25% of India’s population. Meanwhile, just 14% are from Other Backward Classes (OBCs), despite this group constituting over 41% of the population (as per latest National Sample Survey). Additionally, 8% of the workers come from the General category, a group that makes up around 30% of the population.

This disproportionate representation among sanitation workers highlights a clear and ongoing marginalization of SC and ST communities in some of the most dangerous and degrading forms of labour. The genius of the so-called Dravidian movement in Tamil Nadu lies in convincing the truly oppressed that their oppressors are their allies. Despite their claims of being champions of the underprivileged, the Dravidian political apparatus seems to uphold a system where the most vulnerable groups continue to suffer in low-status, high-risk jobs.

Furthermore, the fact that 91.9% of hazardous sanitation workers belong to marginalized communities underscores the systemic inequality that persists, even under the guise of progressive policies. OBCs, despite their larger population share, appear to have largely escaped this kind of hazardous employment, while SCs and STs bear the brunt of it. This raises a crucial question: if the so-called protectors of the marginalized are truly on their side, why does this blatant disparity persist?

The Dravidianist argument that they stand for social justice seems hollow when examined through the lens of who continues to perform these hazardous jobs. The narrative of empowerment falls flat when the caste-based distribution of dangerous labour overwhelmingly affects those they claim to uplift. It’s time to question whether their rhetoric truly matches the reality for the oppressed. True social justice would mean elevating these communities out of these conditions, not perpetuating a system where they remain trapped.

The data itself reveals the contradiction: SCs and STs continue to disproportionately clean sewers and septic tanks, while OBCs and other dominant caste groups are primarily shielded from such work. Clearly, the Dravidian movement’s genius isn’t in alleviating oppression—it’s in obfuscating who the real oppressors are.

Woman Who Questioned Her Brother’s Exclusion From TVK Dragged Out By Bouncers, Locked Up In Room During Party Meeting

Woman Who Questioned Her Brother's Exclusion From TVK Dragged Out By Bouncers, Locked Up In Room During Party Meeting

A heated exchange erupted between TVK leaders and an emotional woman during the Tamizhaga Vettri Kazhagam’s Tanjore North District advisory meeting on Sunday, 29 September 2024, held at a private wedding hall in Kumbakonam. The meeting, led by the TVK general secretary, Anand, took a dramatic turn when a woman approached the stage with an emotional appeal regarding her brother’s exclusion from the party.

The woman questioned Anand, saying, “My brother sold his property and raised the Vijay Makkal Iyakkam. But why has he been excluded from the party?” Her brother, Thangadurai, was reportedly the former district president of the Vijay Makkal Iyakkam in Thanjavur and had contributed significantly to the party’s early efforts.

Tensions escalated as security personnel, including bouncers, forcibly removed (dragging) the woman from the stage area. She was then locked in a room within the hall, sparking a commotion. Reporters attempting to capture the incident were blocked by party administrators, leading to a heated argument.

The incident has drawn attention to growing discontent within the party, as some members allege that Thangadurai, despite his contributions, was sidelined after the movement gained traction. His sister, Pushpa, engaged in a verbal altercation with General Secretary Anand, further fueling the commotion.

This incident has raised questions about internal disputes and the treatment of those who helped establish the party in its formative stages. No official statement has been made by the Tamizhaga Vettri Kazhagam regarding the matter.

Anupam Kher Becomes New ‘Gandhi’ For Fake Indian Currency Notes

Anupam Kher Becomes New ‘Gandhi’ For Fake Indian Currency Notes

It’s no secret that veteran actor Anupam Kher is an invaluable asset to Indian cinema. However, the counterfeiters in Gujarat cranked up his value when they decided to paste his picture on fake Rs 500 denomination notes worth Rs 1.6 crore.

The incident came to light when two unidentified men duped an Ahmedabad bullion trader using fake notes featuring Bollywood actor Anupam Kher instead of Mahatma Gandhi.

Another interesting thing is that the notes have ‘Resole Bank of India’ printed on them, instead of ‘Reserve Bank of India’. Images of the fake notes have gone viral on social media with many expressing shock at the incident, while others found it amusing.

Among them is Anupam himself, as he expressed his amusement at the incident. He took to his Instagram recently, and shared a newsclip of the fake currency bust.

He wrote in the caption, “My photo instead of Gandhi’s photo on the note of five hundred???? Anything can happen”. Anupam Kher, who made his acting debut with the Mahesh Bhatt directorial ‘Saaransh’, is considered one of the finest actors in Indian cinema, he has played a variety of characters including numerous critically acclaimed leading or supporting roles.

His accolades include two National Film Awards. The Government of India honoured him with the Padma Shri, the fourth-highest civilian award of the Republic of India in 2004 and the Padma Bhushan, the third-highest civilian award in 2016 for his contribution to Indian cinema and arts.

Meanwhile, on the work front, the actor will be next seen in the Kangana Ranaut directorial ‘Emergency’, which is based on the former Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi. The film has run into controversies over its censor certificate, and its release has been pushed many times.

From PTR To Vijay, Netizens Dig Out Jibes Against Udhayanidhi Stalin Over His ‘Unfitness’ For The Post

From PTR To Vijay, Netizens Dig Out Jibes Against Udhayanidhi Stalin Over His 'Unfitness' For The Post

On 29 September 2024, Minister of Youth Welfare and Sports Development, Udhayanidhi Stalin, was sworn in as the Deputy Chief Minister, barely 3 years after he first won an assembly election. The producer-turned-filmstar-turned-politician entered Tamil Nadu politics by winning his first assembly election in 2021. Just over a year later, in December 2022, he was appointed as a minister in his father M.K. Stalin’s cabinet, solidifying his position as a rising figure within the DMK.

Despite being a political newcomer, he oversees several important portfolios, including Youth Welfare and Sports Development, the Poverty Alleviation Programme, Rural Indebtedness, and his father’s flagship Special Programme Implementation department.

However, several political figures have questioned his qualifications. These include former TN Finance Minister PTR Palanivel Thiagarajan to actor-turned-politician Vijay. Netizens shared videos of these statements and jibes made at Udhayanidhi Stalin over the years.

In an undated interview, PTR is seen saying,If you run the party for unfit, useless successors, then some talented party will enter the scene and wash you away.

Actor-turned-politician Vijay in another video which is from the success meet for the film Leo, is seen taking jibes at Udhayanidhi on stage. Udhayanidhi is seen seated at the event. Vijay says, There’s a little boy in a home, he very longingly wears his dad’s shirt, he’d wear his dad’s watch, he would sit on his dad’s chair. That shirt wouldn’t fit him, it would be very loose. The watch would also not fit his wrist. Whether he can sit on the chair or not, is he qualified for it or not, he doesn’t know that. He wears his dad’s clothes. It is his dream to be like his dad.”

In an undated video, DMK’s Student Wing President Rajiv Gandhi says, If he is Stalin’s son, will he not be qualified? Will Kanimozhi lose qualification just because she is Karunanidhi’s daughter? How did Karunanidhi’s daughter and grandson get qualified? Didn’t anyone else get qualified? These seem to be steps to pacify the family. In 50 years, we feel it is against the party’s constitution as well.”

Netizens also shared their displeasure at how nepotism helped Udhayanidhi climb the ranks so quickly.

Telegram Pledges Zero Tolerance For Deepfake Pornography

Telegram Pledges Zero Tolerance For Deepfake Pornography

South Korea’s media regulator said on Monday that Telegram has pledged to adopt a zero-tolerance policy and immediately remove deepfake pornography and other illegal content from its platform in cooperation with local authorities.

The Korea Communications Standards Commission (KCSC) said it had a face-to-face working-level meeting with Telegram on Friday, raising concerns over deep fake content involving doctored images of Korean women that has surfaced on Telegram in recent months. In response, Telegram acknowledged the severity of the issue in Korea and vowed to take strict action against such illegal material, reports Yonhap news agency.

“Telegram said they understood the situation in Korea where deepfake porn content has become a significant social issue,” KCSC Chairman Ryu Hee-lim stated in a press conference, adding that the platform will take stern measures to combat the problem.

In addition to targeting digital sex crimes, Telegram will actively remove content related to pornography, prostitution, drugs, and gambling, as requested by the KCSC, which holds exclusive authority to review and flag illegal content.

The platform has also committed to working closely with Korean authorities, including the police, and will hold regular working-level meetings with the KCSC. As part of these efforts, a new hotline will be established between Telegram and the KCSC to expedite responses to content violations.

The KCSC anticipates that illegal content will be removed more swiftly following the recent agreement. Telegram removed 148 cases of sexual exploitation material from its platform from September 3-25, as requested by the KCSC. On Sunday, the South Korean state telecommunications watchdog noted “significant progress” in its recent talks with Telegram over the handling of deep fake content on the encrypted messaging app.

Amid a surge in deepfake videos, Telegram opened a hotline with the KCSC earlier this month to better respond to such content on its platform. Telegram has since removed dozens of explicit materials and notified the KCSC immediately.

Hezbollah Confirms Death Of Senior Leader Ali Karaki In Israeli Airstrikes

Hezbollah Confirms Death Of Senior Leader Ali Karaki In Israeli Airstrikes

Hezbollah has confirmed that the group’s senior leader Ali Karaki, head of the southern front, was killed, along with top leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, in the Israeli airstrikes targeting Beirut’s southern suburbs.

Hezbollah said on Sunday in a statement that Karaki “was martyred with a group of his jihadist brothers in the enemy’s criminal raid on Haret Hreik, accompanied by… Hezbollah Secretary-General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah”.

On Friday evening, Israeli warplanes launched airstrikes on Hezbollah’s main headquarters in Dahieh, the southern suburbs of Beirut, during which Nasrallah and some other commanders of the armed group were killed, Xinhua news agency reported.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has claimed on Sunday that it killed Nabil Qaouk, the commander of Hezbollah’s Preventive Security Unit and a member of Hezbollah’s central council, in an airstrike on Saturday.

It gave no detail on where the strike took place. The IDF said that Qaouk was “considered to be close to the top of” Hezbollah and “was directly engaged in promoting terrorist designs against the State of Israel and its citizens, even in recent days”.

The US designated Qaouk a global terrorist in October 2020, saying he had represented Hezbollah at events commemorating deceased Hezbollah terrorists as well as the Iranian Revolutionary Guards commander Qasem Soleimani, who died in a US drone strike in January 2020.

The raids flattened several residential buildings, resulting in at least six deaths, 91 injuries, and significant infrastructure damage in the neighbourhood, local media reported earlier.

These heavy assaults mark the latest escalation of the ongoing clashes between Israel and Hezbollah, which began on October 8, 2023, when Hezbollah started launching rockets at Israel in solidarity with Hamas in the Gaza Strip, prompting Israel’s retaliatory artillery fire and airstrikes in southeastern Lebanon.

Report Reveals The Story Behind Ouster Of Mano Thangaraj, Gingee Masthan And Ramachandran From Stalin’s Cabinet

Ouster Of Mano Thangaraj, Gingee Masthan And Ramachandran From Stalin's Cabinet

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has made significant changes in a major cabinet reshuffle, removing three ministers and appointing new faces to key positions. Mano Thangaraj, Senji Mastan, and Ramachandran were removed, while Senthil Balaji, Nasser, Govi Chezhian, and Rajendran were appointed new ministers. The reshuffle also saw the reallocation of portfolios among some senior ministers, sparking speculation and criticism over the reasons behind the changes.

Key Ministerial Changes

One of the most notable moves was the reallocation of the Higher Education Department from senior minister K. Ponmudi, who has been reassigned as Forest Minister. The decision comes after Ponmudi’s public criticism of the Tamil Nadu Governor, including an incident in which he told the governor togo outsideduring an assembly session. Sources within the DMK and the Secretariat suggested to Dinamalar that Ponmudi’s confrontational stance with the Governor and concerns about the state of higher education in Tamil Nadu led to the reshuffle. Several universities are reportedly struggling with funding and appointments of Vice-Chancellors, which raised concerns about the future of the state’s education system. The move is seen as restoring peace between the state government and the governor.

Mano Thangaraj’s Removal

Mano Thangaraj’s removal from the cabinet has also drawn attention. Thangaraj made crass comments on Prime Minister Narendra Modi on social media during the Sengol installation. On 28 May 2023, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the new parliament building and installed the historic Sengol while Tamil Aadhenams sang Thevaaram songs inside the parliament.

Priests and Aadheenams performed special poojas before the Sengol was installed in the parliament. PM Modi, before receiving the Sengol from Aadhenams, prostrated before it as a mark of respect and to reflect Indian culture and tradition. While the image of PM Modi prostrating in front of the Sengol was widely circulated on social media, DMK Minister for Milk and Dairy Development Mano Thangaraj made disparaging remarks about PM Modi. Sharing the image on his Twitter handle, Minister said, “Is he dead? (Is he breathing?), does he have dignity and self-esteem?”

According to party insiders, Thangaraj also allegedly failed to manage the dairy development portfolio adequately. Complaints of internal conflicts with local party leaders in Nagercoil, coupled with allegations of his involvement in covering up a recent controversy over diluted milk, were reportedly brought to the Chief Minister’s attention by a young IAS officer. These factors led to his dismissal from the cabinet.

Gingee Masthan’s Dismissal

Gingee Masthan, the former minister of minority welfare, faced scrutiny after Tamil Nadu BJP leader K. Annamalai released a controversial photo showing Mastan feeding cake to a liquor dealer. Further allegations of his family’s involvement in party affairs, government job appointments, and a significant investment in shrimp farming led to his removal. Masthan lost his district secretary position due to similar controversies two months ago. He has now been replaced by Nasser, who returns to the cabinet to oversee minority welfare.

Ramachandran’s Exit

Tourism Minister Ramachandran was removed from the cabinet due to his reported underperformance in the department and poor relations with party members. His replacement has yet to be announced, but sources suggest to Dinamalar that the changes were driven by his inability to work effectively with colleagues. Meanwhile, Minister Kayalvizhi was reassigned from the Adi Dravidian Welfare Department to Human Resource Management, reportedly due to complaints of her husband’s excessive involvement in departmental affairs.

Political Implications

The reshuffle also seems to have been influenced by complaints from various communities about representation in the cabinet. PMK founder Ramadoss had recently criticized the DMK government for neglecting the Vanniyar community, which holds 23 MLAs but only three ministerial posts. In response, Rajendran, from the Vanniyar community, was given a ministerial position. Similarly, Govi Chezhian, from the Adi Dravidar community, has also been appointed, reflecting efforts to balance caste-based representation.

Senthil Balaji Returns

Another key development in the reshuffle was the reappointment of Senthil Balaji, who will oversee the power sector. Balaji’s return to the cabinet comes amid expectations of significant changes in managing the state’s energy policies.

The cabinet reshuffle, though anticipated, has triggered a wave of reactions from political analysts and party members alike. While Chief Minister Stalin assured reporters that the reshuffle would not lead to disappointment, removing key figures and reallocating portfolios has stirred debate over the underlying causes and future implications for Tamil Nadu’s governance. The DMK leadership’s balancing act between community representation, party unity, and governance challenges remains in the spotlight as the new ministers take on their roles.
