CM Stalin’s US Visit, FeTNA, “Dravidian Movement”: Here’s Why Govt Of India Should Be Concerned

TN: CM Stalin US Visit Sparks Scrutiny Over Investment Claims & Separatist Allegations

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin departed for the United States (US) on the evening of 27 August 2024 for a two-week official trip. He is scheduled to travel to San Francisco and Chicago during his visit, likely aiming to attract investment proposals for Tamil Nadu.

Since assuming power in May 2021, Stalin’s trips to the UAE, Singapore, Japan, and Spain to attract investment for the state have been questioned by critics. Doubts were raised, especially over the credibility of these investments. Some leaders even called for a ‘white paper’ to clarify the actual outcomes.

While Stalin’s previous foreign visits have resulted in investment proposals totalling ₹10,882 crores through 17 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs), which were projected to create over 18,500 jobs, only five projects amounting to ₹990 crores have so far begun.

On one hand, there are concerns and speculations about the authenticity of the investments claimed by the government, with accusations piling up that public funds are being squandered on foreign trips that yield unreliable results, and on the other hand, the DMK government seems to be fostering a separatist agenda abroad, like the “Khalistani” movement. The DMK is potentially inciting divisive sentiments among the Tamil diaspora, advocating for a “separate Tamil Nadualigning with Dravidian ideologists and Periyarist supporters through the DMK’s NRI wing located overseas.

This accusation merits consideration, as the Tamil Nadu government has established a special act and created a separate commissionerate to support the Tamil diaspora abroad under the banner of “Non-Resident Tamils (NRT).

While the tag of Non-Resident Indian (NRI) tag applies to all Indians including Tamil people, the assertion of a separate NRT has raised eyebrows given that the DMK is a party that once advocated for separatism and still has the same separate Dravida Nadu undercurrents in its political rhetorics. Organizations such as the Federation of Tamil Sangams of North America (FeTNA) are directly linked to the DMK’s NRI wing, with figures like P. Pugazh Gandhi, a Joint Secretary, serving as members of the NRT Welfare Board.

If you look at the above poster, you can see the three DMK personalities identifying themselves as members of the Non-Resident Tamils Welfare Board, which is a body of the Tamil Nadu government.

Critics argue that Dravidianists may be engaging in some form of “cultural terrorism” to support a separatist agenda, which they liken to the “Khalistani” movement. This can be acknowledged in previous instances with the involvement of Father Jegath Gasper Raj and his NGO, Tamil Maiyyam, in Keezhadi has raised concerns. Father Raj, referred to in U.S. crime records as ‘Gaspar Raj Maria Paulian,’ has faced allegations of supporting LTTE activities, a group designated as a Foreign Terrorist Organization by the U.S. The increased foreign funding to Tamil NGOs, many of which are Christian organizations, has been noted. In 2013-14, Tamil Nadu received substantial foreign donations through NGOs, leading to investigations by Indian authorities. Academics affiliated with foreign-funded NGOs have secured roles in advisory boards related to archaeological projects, influencing excavation licenses and other concessions.

The U.S. Department of the Treasury froze the assets of the Tamils Rehabilitation Organization (TRO) in 2007 due to its links with LTTE. This freeze aimed to isolate terrorist groups financially. Father Gasper Raj’s association with the TRO further complicates the narrative.

The tenth World Tamil Conference, sponsored by FeTNA, held in Chicago in July 2019, focused on Keezhadi and was dedicated to Tamil scholar Rev. G.U. Pope. Many have warned of the significant impact of FeTNA’s foreign donations on India’s socio-political landscape, suggesting that these funds have influenced religious demographics and socio-economic conditions.

While these activities may outwardly appear to promote cultural preservation and welfare of NRTs, the key individuals involved are heavily aligned with left-leaning and Dravidian ideologies. This alignment raises concerns that they might advance separatist agendas and undermine national unity. Therefore, it is suggested that the central government should closely monitor these developments.

Ancient Ganesha Temple Unearthed In Salem, Challenges Dravidian Historians’ Claims On Ganesha Worship Origins

A long buried under garbage and soil, a Ganesha temple was unearthed in Salem’s Uthamasolapuram. This discovery delivers a tight slap to self-proclaimed ‘Dravidian historians‘ who distort history by claiming that the worship of Lord Ganesha began only after the battle of Vatapi.

Local residents had long claimed that a temple named ‘Vithaga Vinayagar‘ had been lost beneath heaps of garbage in Uttamasholapuram, near Thirumani Muttharu. Recently, the organization “Pasumai Tamizhagam” cleared away the debris and uncovered the statue of Lord Ganesha, a two-foot sculpture carved from a single rock. Surrounding temple pillars, though damaged, were also discovered.

The news of the idol’s recovery drew local people who gathered to worship at the Ganesha temple. They thanked the NGO for their efforts. According to local folklore, the temple may be about 1,500 years old and is believed to be where poetess Avvaiyar composed the Vinayakar Agaval. Residents call on the government to protect the temple and restore it as a place of worship.

This was not an isolated incident. In 2021, not only Vinayagar a 5th-century stone sculpture of Vinayaki (the female form of Lord Ganesha) from the pre-Pallava period was also unearthed by a team from the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) in a village in Chengalpet district, about 100 km south of Chennai. The three-foot-tall sculpture, carved from granite, was a rare find with inscriptions in early Tamil script detailing the donor.

While Lord Ganesha was widely worshipped in Tamil Nadu, idols of Goddess Vinayaki with a trunk were exceptionally rare. Remarkably, another sculpture with similar inscriptions and a comparable seating position was discovered about a kilometer away in Irumbedu village near Cheyyur. This second sculpture, under examination, was believed by locals to be Goddess Gangai Amman. The community revered both sculptures in open areas, rather than within any temple.

The inscriptions on the sculptures read “Jeyam Patta Muthiravarigan Madavati,” which archaeologists interpreted as a record of a donation by an individual named Madavati to commemorate a victory. Assistant epigraphist P.T. Nagarajan said these early Tamil inscriptions dated back approximately 1,500 years. Vinayaki was predominantly worshipped in North India and was notably rare in Tamil Nadu, and the current discovery is astonishing. The ASI team, including assistant archaeologists Dr. R. Ramesh and M. Prasanna, visited the village in response to local alerts about these unique sculptures. Their findings were featured in the ASI’s annual report on Indian Epigraphy.

Islamist Perpetrator Forcefully Puts Chilli Powder In Victim Genitals, Leftist YouTuber Abhisar Sharma Calls It A Casteist Attack

Islamist Perpetrator Forcefully Puts Chilli Powder In Victim Genitals, Leftist YouTuber Abhisar Sharma Calls It A Casteist Attack

On 26 August 2024, a disturbing video surfaced on social media, reportedly from the Araria district in Bihar. The video shows a group of individuals assaulting a man, tying his hands behind his back, stripping him of his pants, and then forcefully stuffing red chilli powder into his rectum, ignoring his desperate pleas for mercy.

The video quickly sparked outrage online. RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav and others shared the footage, alleging that Bihar was under “Taliban rule” and claiming that minorities were being oppressed in the state.

However, the police later arrested the main accused in the case, identified as Mohammad Sifat, dispelling the narrative of minority oppression. Efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend the other individuals involved.

Reports indicate that the incident occurred in Islamnagar, within the jurisdiction of the Araria police station. The victim, a 30-year-old man, was suspected of attempting to steal a motorbike. After apprehending him, the assailants tied his hands with a rope and subjected him to a brutal assault, including the chilli powder attack, while he begged for mercy. Despite some onlookers suggesting they hand him over to the police, the assailants refused, with one stating, “If we hand him over to the police, they will spare him.”

Tejashwi Yadav, in sharing the video, accused the Bihar government of allowing a “Taliban rule” to flourish, criticizing the BJP/NDA government for remaining silent. He claimed that his party’s advocacy for the rights of Dalits, backward classes, and minorities was the reason for being labeled as promoting “jungle raj.”

The police took swift action after the video went viral, registering an FIR under sections 109 and 117(4) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS). On 27 August 2024, they arrested the main accused, Mohammad Sifat, a resident of Araria. The authorities are continuing to track down the other individuals involved in the incident. The victim, from the Simraha police station area in Araria, reportedly has several theft cases registered against him. Despite this, no formal complaint was lodged against him in this recent incident, leading to his release after being held at the police station for about half an hour.

How Abhisar Sharma Gave The Crime A Caste Twist

Leftist YouTuber Abhisar Sharma who made headlines in the NewsClick case and its China connection has given a ‘caste’ twist to the inhuman crime meted out to the victim. In a video on his channel, he says on the topic, “A blatant casteist attack has been made on a person. Chilli powder is being smeared on his genitals and a video of this is being made. It is shocking. The perpetrator doesn’t seem to have any shame or fear that their shameful act is being broadcast to the world. I want to ask you, should we not have a debate on this? Why not? And where do you bring such criteria from.”

However, Sharma despite knowing the fact that it was Sifat who did the act, has gone ahead and given it a casteist angle.

Abhisar Sharma and his associated ‘news’ channels like NewsClick as well as his own YouTube channels are known for peddling leftist propaganda often. Even when he was a ‘career’ journalist with NDTV, he was seen peddling the propaganda of his paymasters.

Kerala Congress Slams CM Vijayan For Not Probing Hema Committee Findings

Kerala Congress Slams CM Vijayan For Not Probing Hema Committee Findings

Congress on Wednesday (28 August 2024) slammed the Pinarayi Vijayan-led state government for not taking follow-up action on the explosive Hema Committee report, which probed the working conditions of women in the Malayalam film industry. Leader of Opposition V.D. Satheesan said the report was officially published more than ten days ago.

The report discusses the widespread criminal acts in the film industry, but no action has been taken so far.

He posed a few questions to CM Vijayan and wanted answers to them. “It is a criminal act on the part of the authorities who are trying to hide the sexual attack on women and also under the provisions of the POCSO Act. The report mentions these and the Vijayan government has done nothing,” said Satheesan.

The Hema Committee report was handed out by the Chief Information Commissioner (CIC), and it has now surfaced that the state government has cut out more pages than the CIC had asked. We wish to know why this was done and whether it was done to save some people,” asked Satheesan.

“The report points out how drugs have become a part of the film industry. We wish to know what action the Vijayan government has taken,” said Satheesan while asking why the Vijayan government has adopted a soft approach on the grave report.

Incidentally, the only action the Vijayan government has taken so far is forming a special police team, which includes four women IPS officers.

The team has started taking statements from the victims. Satheesan stated that what the Vijayan government should do is act on the findings of the report and not wait for the victims to come out with their complaints.

The Congress party is to stage a statewide protest on Thursday and their demands include the resignation of State Minister for Culture and Films Saji Cherian and also actor-turned-politician State Minister for Transport K.B. Ganesh Kumar.

Minister Cherian had initially taken a strong position in favour of Ranjith. And, Minister Kumar, who is otherwise vocal on most issues, has gone silent, as he is also alleged to be shielding the tainted AMMA members, of which he is also a member.

TN BJP Moves Madras HC Against Chennai F4 Racing Event, Udhayanidhi’s Pet Project

TN BJP Moves Madras HC Against Chennai F4 Racing Event

Tamil Nadu BJP state spokesperson A. N. S. Prasad has moved the Madras High Court against the Formula 4 (F4) car racing event scheduled for August 31 and September 1 in Chennai.

The petitioner wanted the case to be heard urgently on Tuesday, but it will be heard on August 28. The BJP leader stated in his petition that F4 car racing would lead to a road blockade, causing inconvenience to the general public.

He also charged that illegal road works are also being carried out, inconveniencing daily commuters and patients visiting Chennai General Hospital and Chennai Multispecialty Hospital. The petitioner said he seeks to halt the car racing event, citing its “illegal nature” and impact on the public.

Tamil Nadu Youth Welfare and Sports Development Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin had said that the Formula 4-night street race would not hinder commuters. A few days ago, Udhayanidhi had told media persons that arrangements had been made for 8,000 people to watch the race.

The minister said that people can watch the session on Saturday morning for free. The DMK government has spent around Rs 30 crore on the event.

Eight teams will participate in the event, and the track will have 19 turns, multiple chicanes, and tricky elevations. Opposing the state government’s plans to host the event, the AIADMK blamed the ruling DMK government for “misgovernance”.

BJP Tamil Nadu President K Annamalai made severe accusations against the ruling DMK government regarding the upcoming F4 racing event. He claimed that the DMK government is pressuring industries to finance Udhayanidhi Stalin’s pet project, the F4 racing event.

He alleged that the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB) has been focused on a single task in recent months—pressuring industries, particularly in Chennai and the Western Kongu region, to contribute funds for the F4 event or face repercussions. Annamalai stated in a social media post that small business owners are coerced into making Udhayanidhi’s dreams a reality.

He further asserted that TNPCB officials have established “rate cards” for contributions, ranging from ₹25,000 to ₹1 crore, which are to be paid to a company called “Racing Promotions Private Limited.”

AIADMK general secretary and the Leader of the Opposition in the Tamil Nadu Assembly Edappadi Palaniswami (EPS) said public funds should benefit people and not be used for entertainment under the guise of a sporting event. In a statement, EPS said, “There are so many problems that people are facing today, and in such a scenario, this DMK government is conducting a car race.

He said, “The race would cut through the heart of the city for 3.5 km around Island Grounds near the Marina beach.” The opposition leader said the circuit was near hospitals and would affect transport immensely in the city.

However, the state government argued that it has an agreement with the private organisers of the event to share the revenue generated, similar to the process followed in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

PM Modi Once Closed His First Bank Account Over Poverty, Today Millions Of Jan Dhan Accounts Thrive Under PMJDY

Prime Minister Narendra Modi experienced financial exclusion in his younger days, which led to the conception of the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY). The scheme, aimed at universal financial access, has brought over 53 crore beneficiaries into the banking system, making it the world’s largest financial inclusion scheme.

PMJDY, introduced by the Modi government in 2014, marked its 10th anniversary on Wednesday (28 August 2024).

Reflecting on this experience, ‘Modi Archives’ shared the story on X. The post highlighted how a “young Modi,” from a humble background, opened a bank account as a student, only to realise years later the significance of financial inclusion.

“More than five decades ago, a young school student opened a bank account after being taught the value of savings. At that time, he was unaware that it would go on to teach him a critical lesson—a lesson on ‘financial exclusion,'” the post from Modi Archives stated, along with a video of PM Modi recounting his experience.

“This young boy was none other than our Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” it added. PM Modi, who grew up in modest circumstances, shared in the video how his family’s financial situation prevented him from saving even a single rupee, leaving his bank account empty for years. Bank officials viewed the unused account as a burden, attempting to close it down.

Ultimately, Modi closed the account himself after realising the hassle it caused the bank. In the video, the Prime Minister reflects on how the focus in the past was on closing such accounts. However, today, the emphasis is on opening accounts for everyone, a shift driven by his own experiences of poverty and ‘financial exclusion’.

“At that time, the focus was on closing the bank account. But today, our efforts are centred on opening accounts for everyone. I truly believe that these efforts will bring light into the lives of those living in poverty, giving them a new sense of hope and dignity,” he said in the video.

The post emphasised how this shift towards financial inclusion could only be led by someone who had experienced poverty and economic exclusion. PMJDY, a National Mission on Financial Inclusion, aims to ensure comprehensive financial inclusion for all households in India. It provides universal access to banking facilities, including at least one basic banking account per household, financial literacy, and access to credit, insurance, and pension facilities.

One of the key features of PMJDY by the Modi government is the ability to open a bank account with zero balance, a facility that was not previously available. According to the official website of Jan Dhan Yojana, 53.13 crore beneficiaries have been brought into the banking system so far, with a cumulative balance of Rs 231,235.97 crore in their accounts.

“Vijay Can’t Handle Even One Election”, Says Ex-ADMK Minister Shanmuganathan

"Vijay Can't Handle Even One Election", Says Fmr ADMK Minister Shanmuganathan

Singling out actor Vijay’s recent political foray, former ADMK Minister SP Shanmuganathan expressed doubts about the long-term success of actors in Tamil Nadu’s political scene, citing past failures by celebrities like Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan. Shanmuganathan also questioned the BJP’s ability to maintain power without alliances in Tamil Nadu.

Shanmuganathan, participating in a party programme in Thoothukudi’s Sathankulam area, launched a scathing critique of actors entering politics, mainly focusing on Vijay’s recent political launch with Tamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK).

During the event, where he distributed digital membership cards to party members, Shanmuganathan expressed scepticism about the success of actors in Tamil Nadu’s political landscape. “Many actors have entered politics since MGR’s time. I don’t know where they all went,” he remarked, referencing past attempts by celebrities like Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan.

The AIADMK Thoothukudi South District Secretary specifically targeted Vijay, stating, “Now Vijay has entered politics. He is influential. They say a percentage of votes will go to him. But he could only stay for a couple of years. Can’t even handle an election.” Shanmuganathan claimed only about 10 Vijay fans are in the town, suggesting this number wouldn’t be enough for political success.

He also highlighted the challenges faced by other actor-turned-politicians, noting that even Vijayakanth could only rise to the status of Leader of Opposition through an alliance with AIADMK. “This is Tamil Nadu politics,” he emphasized.

The former minister didn’t limit his criticism to actors. He also took aim at the BJP, questioning their ability to retain power without alliances. “Look at BJP… 300 seats before election they said it is this. But look now… Nitish Kumar is holding hands to run the government. Chandrababu Naidu holds hands. Without both of them, the BJP will be unable to retain power now,” Shanmuganathan stated.

He concluded by asserting that the BJP has no significant influence in Tamil Nadu, pointing to their inability to win recent by-elections in various constituencies after the Lok Sabha polls.

NDA Gets Majority In Rajya Sabha With 115 Members, BJP Has 96

NDA Gets Majority In Rajya Sabha With 115 Members, BJP Has 96

The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has increased its strength in the Rajya Sabha to 115 members following the unopposed election of 11 candidates—nine from the BJP and two from its allies, Janata Dal United (JDU) and the NCP (Ajit Pawar faction). Additionally, the ruling coalition has the backing of six nominated members.

Out of the 12 available seats, the Congress secured one seat from Telangana. The BJP, with 96 members, remains the largest party in the Upper House, but the NDA is still shy of the 119-seat majority.

Among those elected without opposition is George Kurien, the Union Minister of State for Minority Affairs, Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairying. The alliance also enjoys the support of one independent member.

With its additional seat, the Congress now has 85 members in the Upper House. The Rajya Sabha comprises 245 seats, though eight remain vacant—four from Jammu and Kashmir and four for nominated members.

The BJP candidates elected unopposed include Ranjan Dass and Rameshwar Teli from Assam, Manan Kumar Mishra from Bihar, Kiran Chaudhary from Haryana, Dhirya Sheel Patil from Maharashtra, Mamata Mohanta from Odisha, Ravneet Singh Bittu from Rajasthan, and Rajeev Bhattacharjee from Tripura.

Abhishek Manu Singhvi of the Congress was elected unopposed from Telangana, NCP’s Nitin Patil from Maharashtra, and RLM’s Upendra Kushwaha secured a seat from Bihar.

With the NDA now holding a stronger position in the Rajya Sabha, the question arises whether the ruling alliance will prioritize reintroducing or advancing several stalled bills on the legislative agenda. These include:

  1. The WAQF (Amendment) Bill 2024.
  2. Bill No. 133 of 2022, introduced by Dr Krishnapal Singh Yadav, M.P., seeks to repeal the Places of Worship (Special Provisions) Act of 1991.
  3. Bill No. 266 of 2019, proposed by Krupal Tumane, M.P., aims to implement a Uniform Civil Code across India.

The increased strength of the NDA in the Upper House could provide the momentum needed to advance these key legislative items.

Senior IPS Officer B. Srinivasan Appointed NSG Chief

Senior IPS Officer B. Srinivasan Appointed NSG Chief

Senior IPS officer B. Srinivasan has been appointed the Director General (DG) of the National Security Guard (NSG), the country’s counter-terrorism force. His appointment follows a Personnel Ministry order on Tuesday (27 August 2024).

Srinivasan is a 1992 batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of the Bihar cadre. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of Srinivasan as DG, NSG, from the date of joining the post and up to August 31, 2027, — the date of his superannuation, the order said.

He is currently the director of Bihar Police Academy, Rajgir. The post of NSG DG was vacant after incumbent Nalin Prabhat was named the new Chief of the Jammu and Kashmir Police.

Nalin Prabhat was appointed as the NSG Chief in April this year, and he will serve until August 31, 2028 (the date of his retirement). Popularly known as the “black cats,” the Federal Contingency Force NSG was established in 1984.

However, on August 15, the Centre cut short his tenure and named him the J&K police head. Prabhat, who has joined as the Special Director General of the J&K Police, will take over the reins of the force after incumbent R.R. Swain retires on September 30.

Following Prabhat’s appointment, Director General of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) Anish Dayal Singh was responsible for the NSG.

VCK Member Assaults Tehsildar Over Land Dispute, FIR Charged Under Three Sections

VCK Functionary Assaults Tehsildar Over Land Dispute, FIR Under Three Sections

A fresh incident involving political functionaries misbehaving with government servants emerged on 20 August 2024, when Ashok, a member of the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), verbally abused and physically assaulted Tehsildar Ramesh at the Ayanavaram office over a land dispute. Ashok threatened Ramesh with dire consequences before fleeing, prompting police action.

The VCK functionary verbally abused the staff at the Tehsildar office over a land dispute. When the Tehsildar intervened to address the behaviour, the VCK supporter reportedly grabbed the official by the collar, choked him, and gave him death threats, all over a land dispute.

Santhana Lakshmi, a resident of Ayanavaram, Satyamurthy Colony in Chennai, recently completed a land survey for her 1,304-square-foot property at the Ayanavaram Tehsildar office, paying a fee of ₹700. In this regard, on 27 July 2024, surveyor Ranjith Kumar personally measured the land and issued a certificate to Santhana Lakshmi’s son before departing.

However, Ashok, a VCK’s 97th ward circle secretary, opposed Santhana Lakshmi and her land. He visited the Tehsildar office and disparaged the government employees, including the women staff, accusing them of bias in favour of the landowner.

Ashok then reportedly confronted Tehsildar Ramesh, assaulting him by grabbing his shirt and dragging him. In response, Tehsildar Ramesh locked Ashok in a room and notified the K-6 TP Chatiram police. Before the police could arrive, Ashok threatened Ramesh with death and fled the scene. Following Ramesh’s complaint, the police have filed charges against Ashok under three sections for assaulting the Tehsildar.

On 25 August 2024, another episode unfolded at the Thousand Lights police station when a DMK functionary, Vetri Selvi, a member of the DMK women’s wing and a resident of Chennai West district, stormed the police station to demand the release of her 17-year-old son, who police had detained.

Selvi’s son had been apprehended while riding his father’s bike without a valid driving license. The police had seized the bike and instructed the boy to have his parents come to retrieve it. Upset by the situation, Selvi arrived at the station and confronted the officers, demanding her son’s release.

In her agitated state, Selvi not only challenged the police staff but also tore up the explanation letter issued by the officers. Additionally, she unlawfully retrieved the confiscated bike before leaving the station. This incident has caused significant disruption and underscores the increasing problem of certain political functionaries abusing their power in the state.
