“We Will Kick Their Ass”: Trump Attacks China, Says US Has Greatest Military

In a confrontation with China, “we will kick their ass”, Republican Presidential Candidate Donald Trump has said at a campaign rally, asserting, “We have the greatest military in the world”.

In a confrontation with China, “we will kick their ass”, Republican Presidential Candidate Donald Trump has said at a campaign rally, asserting, “We have the greatest military in the world”.

Speaking out against what he asserted was the weakening of respect for the US under President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, he said on Sunday, “A report that they issued that if we end up in a war with China, we cannot win. We’re not strong enough”.

“We have the greatest military in the world,” he declared. “You don’t put out reports like that – and it’s not true. We would kick their ass,” he said. Even “assuming that’s true, how stupid are you to put out a report like that,” he said.

He did not say which report he was referring to, but it was likely a report from the Commission on the National Defence Strategy to the Senate Armed Services earlier this year. It said, “The Commission finds that the US military lacks both the capabilities and the capacity required to be confident it can deter and prevail in combat” and that “in many ways, China is outpacing the United States and has largely negated the US military advantage in the Western Pacific”.

Trump’s strong statement tinged by a colloquial vulgarity was in keeping with his theme of asserting that he would reclaim America’s greatness which he said had been devalued by Biden and Harris.

“If we win, our enemies won’t be laughing anymore,” Trump said The Madison Square Garden was packed to its capacity of about 19,000 about 90 minutes before his campaign rally was to begin, and thousands were left stranded outside after waiting for hours to get in and watched him on giant screens. Inside, whipped to bouts of frenzy, the crowd punctuated his speech with screams of, “USA, USA”, and “Four more years”.

Although most of his nearly 90-minute speech focused on immigration and inflation, he presented himself as the keeper of world order. His 2016 Democratic Party rival Hillary Clinton, he said, had warned that he would start World War III, but he was the first president in 82 years not to have launched a foreign military intervention.

He said that if he were the president, Russia would not have invaded Ukraine or Hamas attacked Israel. He said he got along with Russia’s President Vladimir Putin and other adversaries. “Ukraine was the apple of his (Putin’s) eye, but I said, Vladimir, don’t go in,” Trump said.

On foreign trade, he reiterated his threat to enact what he called the Trump Reciprocal Tax Act that would impose tariffs of the same amount that countries levied on imports from the US. He said he would make the US companies bring home their manufacturing, creating jobs in the US. Trump promised a “golden age” of prosperity for the US. Attacking Harris as dishonest, he repeated his claim that she had not worked at McDonald’s fast-food restaurant as she had said. He said that his campaign event of working at a Pennsylvania restaurant was longer than any she might have. He asserted that Google CEO Sundar Pichai – “a very smart guy” – had called him about it.

Mangling his first name by pronouncing the U as in sun, Trump said, “I got a call from Sundar … and he said, we’ve had more hits for McDonald’s (story). I think he said (more than) anything we’ve ever had”. (Harris and many sources maintain that she had worked part-time at McDonald’s while she was a student at Howard University in Washington.) Trump praised his vice presidential candidate J.D. Vance’s wife, Usha, as a highly intelligent person who had topped Yale Law School and said their children would be very smart.

Trump trotted out his well-worn accusations that Harris was a radical Leftist who was trying to hide her past radical statements on immigration and being soft on crime but would bring them back if elected. The media was again his target, calling it “fakers” and “enemy of the people”. The rally was as much entertainment as serious policy discourse. His speech was punctuated by music and videos of crimes by migrants.

For Trump, who was convicted in the city on 32 charges of fraud for trying to hide as business expenses his hush money payments to a porn star who claimed to have had a sexual tryst, and faces sentencing next month, it seemed like a moment of triumph as thousands cheered him on what was once his home turf. “This is the city where I was born and raised, and this is the town that taught me that Americans can do anything,” he said. The former president has moved his official residence from the city to Florida but keeps a penthouse at Trump Towers. His wife, Melania, who introduced him, recalled a rally Trump had held in South Bronx in May. The last time a Republican president campaigned there, it was Ronald Reagan, who turned New York “red”, she said.

Speaking in a city where he won only a paltry 23 per cent of the votes in 2020, Trump who has been accused of divisive rhetoric tried to project a sense of inclusivity. He said he was building the “biggest, broadest coalition in the history of the country”. “We bleed the same blood. we share the same hope. we are one people, one family, and one glorious nation under God,” he said. Although he did not say anything racist, some of his associates who spoke before him did. Tucker Carlson, a former Fox News talk show host, ridiculed Harris, whose mother is Indian, as “a Samoan, Malaysian, low-IQ”. Tesla founder and CEO Elon Musk, who, Trump said, will head a government efficiency panel, claimed that he would cut $2 trillion from the current federal budget of $6.5 trillion.

“If They’re Fascism, Are You Payasam?”: TVK Vijay Cooks DMK In His First-Ever Political Speech, Says ‘One Selfish Family’ That Deceives In The Name Of Dravida Model Is His Political Enemy

TVK Vijay Cooks DMK In His First-Ever Political Speech, Says 'One Selfish Family' That Deceives In The Name Of Dravida Model Is His Political Enemy

Actor-turned-politician Vijay’s party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, held a massive rally at V. Salai near Vikravandi in Vizhupuram district, Tamil Nadu. Addressing the huge crowd of his supporters, actor Vijay, in his speech, not only elaborated on his party’s ideologies but also fixed who his political enemies were.

Although he didn’t name any party exclusively, his speech revealed that his primary political opponent is the DMK.

Taking potshots at the DMK/Dravidianists indirectly, Vijay said that there is a “crowd” that tries to paint a colour to anyone who makes a political entry.

There is a crowd here that for sometime has been singing the same paeans. Anybody who comes into the politics is given ‘one particular colour’. They keep fearmongering people and cheat them. But ‘these people’ (indirect reference to DMK) will put underground dealing with ‘them’ (indirect reference to BJP). During elections, they will give statements and give sounds. For them, it’s always ‘fascism’, ‘fascism’, ‘fascism’. Among the people who are united here, they fearmonger by splitting people as majority-minority and keep putting a full-time scene with it. I’m asking you – If ‘they’re fascism’, are you ‘payasam’?. You’re no better than them. You call this anti-people government as a ‘Dravida Model’ government and cheating people.“, Vijay blasted the DMK.

So from now on, if you give this colour and that colour to those who oppose you (DMK), no matter how much ever you do these ‘Modi-Masthan’ job, nothing is going to happen.“, he said.

“Those who do divisive politics is TVK’s only ideological enemy. Those who brand themselves as Dravida Model using Thanthai Periyar and Perarignar Anna and exploit Tamil Nadu for one selfish family is our next enemy, the political enemy.”, Vijay came guns blazing against the DMK.

No Place For Word ‘Subordinate’ In Judiciary: Vice President Dhankhar

No Place For Word 'Subordinate' In Judiciary: Vice President Dhankhar

Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar on Sunday said that the judiciary is the most important organ of our country, and there is no place for the word ‘subordinate’ in it. Dhankhar added that no court is subordinate, and this should be changed. Speaking at the Inauguration Ceremony of the AIR Library for Advocates at the Rajasthan International Centre in Jaipur, the Vice President said, “When a magistrate or a district judge writes a judgment, there is a doubt in their mind as to what will be the comment on their decision. That decision determines his future.”

Dhankhar suggested that industrialists and corporate groups should also assist in projects in the judiciary on the lines of assistance provided to other institutions. He said that companies have CSR funds and they should invest in local courts. Further, the Vice President described the changes made in the three penal codes as an important event that freed us from the colonial mindset.

He said, “The journey from ‘Dand Vidhan’ to ‘Nyaya Vidhan’ is a significant journey unshackling us from the colonial mindset and legacy. After implementation in July of this year, this is a boon to the young lawyers.”

“I had the good fortune to preside over the Council of States, the House of Elders, the Upper House when these three legislations were passed. A very powerful committee went into each and every provision, it was analysed at micro level,” the Vice President added.

Recalling his connection with the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA), Dhankhar said that after he assumed the office of Vice President, the SCBA invited him, and he had been a member for quite a long time.

He said that if we want to make justice affordable and accessible, we must provide quality justice to the people and focus primarily on District Courts, Magistrates, District Judges, and young lawyers.

“We have to take care of young lawyers… we have to invest in them. There are good institutions for lawyers and law graduates in the country and it may happen that they may not survive. There should be a collective effort for this,” Dhankhar added.

Only BJP Can Stop ‘State-Sponsored’ Infiltration, Crime Against Women In Bengal: HM Amit Shah

Only BJP Can Stop 'State-Sponsored' Infiltration, Crime Against Women In Bengal: HM Amit Shah

Union Home Minister Amit Shah said on Sunday that the “state-sponsored” infiltration and crime against women in West Bengal will be stopped only if the BJP comes to power in the state in the 2026 Assembly elections. Speaking at the party’s organisational meeting to launch a membership drive in West Bengal, the Home Minister said that he wonders what Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will do once the BJP’s total membership in West Bengal crosses one crore.

“We have already won in Haryana. We will also be winning in Maharashtra. Our next major target will be to win in West Bengal in the 2026 Assembly elections… Incidents like Sandeshkhali and R.G Kar Medical College & Hospital have proved how insecure our mothers and sisters are now in West Bengal. All these will be stopped if BJP comes to power in West Bengal in 2026,” he said.

Speaking on the occasion, megastar and BJP leader Mithun Chakraborty also emphasised the need to increase the active party members in the state. “We need such members to lead the party and be at the forefront. They will not be scared to tell the rulers on their faces that they are not afraid to face anything. I also want to assure the Union Home Minister that we are ready to face anything,” he said.

Meanwhile, speaking to the media persons before the organisational meeting, Leader of the Opposition in West Bengal Assembly Suvendu Adhikari said that the protest movements by junior doctors in the state have died down because of the “influence of left and ultra-left forces” in the movement. “Junior doctors started the movement in an excellent manner. But the finishing was not that good. However, the BJP will not remain silent and a full-fledged movement on this issue will start after Diwali,” Adhikari said.

EAM Jaishankar Says Success Of Central Govt’s Policies Linked To State’s Intentions

External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar said on Sunday that the success of the central government’s policies is linked to the intentions of the state government implementing them. Addressing media persons at the BJP office in Mumbai, the EAM said, “In some cases the niti (policy) is different, but sometimes the niyat (intention) of the state government is also different,” and these factors influence the implementation of projects.

“This is why I stress on a double-engine government as this will speed up implementation of development policies on the ground by state governments,” he said, hinting at his call to voters to back the NDA-backed Mahayuti coalition in Maharashtra Assembly elections, slated for November 20. He said the Central government can brand the country’s image on the international stage and attract investment but the final decision by an investor has to be made in coordination with states. “The success of the proposal to set up 12 new industrial cities will, to a large extent, depend on the positive and sincere participation of state governments,” he said, adding that the Central government is looking forward to healthy competition among state governments on attracting investment to the 12 industrial cities.

Regarding the upcoming Assembly elections in Maharashtra, the EAM said that investors interested in bringing capital to the state expect “policy continuity, (and) predictability” in the state. He also dismissed allegations that Maharashtra is losing projects to Gujarat, saying, “The investor’s decision to set up a project in a particular state is based on merits and the state government’s alignment with the Central government policies will only be a positive factor.” Referring to the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC), which aims to bolster economic development by fostering connectivity between Asia, the Persian Gulf and Europe, EAM Jaishankar said that it is the “most talked” about the corridor in the world and it will have the maximum interface in Maharashtra, bringing highest investment in ports and roads to the coastal state.

Earlier, the EAM said that a developed Maharashtra is indispensable for a developed India and highlighted that economic, employment and development issues are being addressed at an unprecedented pace in the third term of the Narendra Modi government. He said that the government’s focus on economy, employment and development has been “very strong” during the third term.

Ta Ve Ka Maanadu: Vijay To Target Both DMK And BJP In His Speech Say Reports

Vijay To Target Both DMK And BJP In His Speech Say Reports

Actor Vijay’s Tamizhaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) is holding its first state level public meeting at Vikravandi, near Vizhuppuram, Tamil Nadu. A massive ramp that leads to the stage has been put up from where Vijay will greet the audience.

Speculation is rife about his speech, with reports suggesting that Vijay plans to make a direct attack targeting both the DMK and the BJP, marking a significant departure from the actor’s previously reserved approach to political commentary.

Vijay’s criticisms of the DMK will likely center on the issues of drug and alcohol addiction. With the public meeting venue located just 95 kms away from Kallakurichi where 68 people succumbed to illicit liquor, Vijay is expected to address the rise in addiction rates and possibly challenge the DMK’s management of TASMAC-run liquor outlets, which have faced criticism for their role in the state’s alcohol dependency issues.

In addition to his critique of DMK, Vijay is expected to tackle the New Education Policy (NEP) introduced by the BJP government. The NEP has sparked significant opposition in Tamil Nadu due to its perceived imposition of Hindi and changes to the traditional curriculum. By voicing his disapproval of the NEP, Vijay will only be parroting the rhetoric of DMK and other Dravidianist parties to whip up anti-Centre sentiment.

Adding to the anticipation, News Tamil 24×7 has reported that Vijay may propose three resolutions aimed at critiquing BJP policies. While details of these resolutions remain undisclosed, they are expected to emphasize TVK’s position on issues affecting Tamil Nadu’s autonomy and interests, again mimicking the DMK.

Massive Crowd Throngs Ta Ve Ka’s Public Meeting Venue; Cadres Go Bonkers, Meet With Accidents

Massive Crowd Throngs Ta Ve Ka's Public Meeting Venue

As Tamil superstar-turned-politician Vijay’s Tamizhaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) was set to hold its public meeting commencing at 4 p.m. on Sunday, cadres and fans started pouring into the venue in Vikkaravandi, Villupuram district of Tamil Nadu. Tamil superstar Suriya extended his wishes to Vijay, whom he calls his “Nanban” (friend). An estimated 2,00,000 people are expected to attend the conference, and the Tamil Nadu Home Department has deployed 6,000 police officers to ensure security.

North Zone Inspector General of Police, Asra Garg, will oversee security operations, with four DIGs and 10 SPs supporting him along with additional personnel. The atmosphere near V Salai, close to Vikravandi, was filled with anticipation as Vijay was expected to announce his party’s agenda and policies at the TVK inaugural state meet.

Reports suggest several film personalities and retired senior bureaucrats would likely join the TVK. The event was set up across an 85-acre area with an additional 207 acres designated for parking.

The main entrance of the public meeting was styled like Chennai’s historic Fort St George, lending grandeur to the event. The venue featured towering cutouts of iconic figures such as B. R. Ambedkar, Periyar E. V. Ramasamy, K. Kamaraj, Velu Nachiyar, Anjalai Ammal, and the kings of Chera, Chola, and Pandya dynasties, along with a massive cutout of Vijay himself.

Two caravans, 18 medical teams with doctors, and 22 ambulances were stationed at the site. Fans and party cadres began arriving as early as Saturday, though media access to the venue has been restricted.

However, there were many untoward incidents before the public meeting.

Two youths from the Tamilagan Vetri Kazhagam in Chennai set out early in the morning on a two-wheeler for the Vikravandi conference, proudly displaying the party flag on their vehicle. Near Teynampet, they reportedly missed a traffic signal and collided with a passing lorry while attempting a turn. The impact of the accident was severe; one of the youths died at the scene, while the other sustained serious injuries and was promptly taken to Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital in Chennai for treatment. The deceased’s body has been sent to Royapettah for a postmortem examination.

At 11:50 p.m., a group of 11 people from Nanmangalam, near Tambaram, set off in a tempo traveler for a conference. Karthik, 25, a resident of Indira Nagar, Nanmangalam, drove the vehicle. On the Tambaram-Velacherry road, while attempting to overtake a lorry, the van lost control and overturned. Nearby bystanders promptly came to their aid, rescuing the occupants and rushing them to the hospital. Thankfully, all 11 passengers sustained only minor injuries.

Although the driver, Karthik, was not seriously injured, he fainted due to the shock of the accident. Pallikaranai Traffic Investigation Division Officers arrived at the scene, cleared the overturned van, and restored traffic flow. The police have registered a case and initiated an investigation into the incident.

The event was set to include cultural programmes, speeches by key party leaders, and a presidential address by Vijay, who was expected to unveil the party’s principles. However, the official event schedule has not been shared with the media till now.

Udayakumar, an IT professional from Madurai, who arrived for the conference, told IANS, “Vijay’s entry into politics is good for Tamil Nadu and its people. He has done careful homework before stepping into politics and is targeting the 2026 Assembly elections. I hope to see him as the next Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.”

Assam CM Blames Congress ‘Goons’ For BJP Worker’s Death In Pre-Poll Violence

Assam CM Blames Congress 'Goons' For BJP Worker's Death In Pre-Poll Violence

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday condoled the death of a BJP worker who reportedly died following a pre-poll violence in the state’s Samaguri assembly constituency. The Chief Minister has held Congress “goons” responsible for the death of BJP worker Bipul Saikia. Chief Minister Sarma took to his X handle, he express his condolences.

He wrote: “My deepest condolences to the family of our @BJP4Assam karyakarta from Samaguri, Late Bipul Saikia, who was violently attacked and killed by goons of @INCAssam.” “Those responsible will be held accountable. This crime is a grim reminder of the Congress’ deception, those who chant ‘Samvidhan Bachao’ are the very ones orchestrating poll violence and undermining democracy. The sacrifice of our karyakartas shall not go in vain,” he added. Saikia received grievous injuries after two groups clashed in Samaguri’s Bajiagaon on Thursday.

He was admitted to a hospital in Nagaon town, where he succumbed to his injuries on Friday. Police have started an investigation into the matter. Five assembly constituencies in Assam will go for bypolls in November. The by-elections on these seats were necessitated after incumbent MLAs won Lok Sabha elections and resigned from their Assembly membership. Out of these five assembly seats, four were held by the BJP and its allies while the Congress held one seat — Samaguri which is a bastion of former state minister Rakibul Hussain.

Hussain has been representing the Samaguri in the Assembly since 2001. He has not lost a single election in the last 23 years. The senior Congress leader contested against AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal in the Dhubri Lok Sabha seat in the parliamentary elections. The seat was held by Ajmal since 2009, however, Hussain pulled a spectacular win in Dhubri by a margin of more than 10 lakh votes. The Congress has fielded Hussain’s son Tanjil Hussain to contest from Samaguri seat in the bypoll. The BJP has been eyeing to oust Congress from Samaguri this time and has deployed its top leaders for the campaigning.

India, Germany Collaborate To Boost Research In Advanced Materials

Underscoring the commitment to foster cutting-edge research that will drive innovation and address global challenges, India and Germany have signed a joint declaration to boost research and development in advanced materials. The exchange was held in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi by Union Science and Technology Minister Dr Jitendra Singh and German Federal Minister Bettina Stark-Watzinger.

Dr Singh highlighted recent collaborative successes, such as the launch of 2+2 joint projects in areas like “Waste to Wealth” and sustainable packaging, as well as a new call for proposals in ‘AI for Sustainability’. The initiatives, along with the Joint Declaration of Intent, will be presented as key outcomes at the upcoming Indo-German Inter-Governmental Consultations led by the Prime Minister of India and the German Chancellor, said the minister.

Dr Singh also hailed the Indo-German Science and Technology Centre (IGSTC) for its instrumental role in promoting joint research, having supported over 50 projects and connected young researchers from both nations. Discussions included the recent establishment of the International Research Training Group (IRTG) between IISER Trivandrum and Würzburg University, focusing on photoluminescence in supramolecular matrices, a testament to the advanced, collaborative research being fostered between the two countries.

The minister also reaffirmed India’s commitment to long-term international projects such as the Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research (FAIR) in Darmstadt, where Indian scientists play a key role in advanced materials and particle physics research. The discussions also highlighted national initiatives such as India’s Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF) and the National Quantum Mission, both aimed at scaling up R&D across priority areas including electric mobility, sustainable agriculture, and advanced materials. “India’s National Hydrogen Mission could offer promising joint opportunities in R&D, production, and sustainable energy storage,” said Dr Singh.

Kerala Official’s Suicide: Complainant Who Levelled Corruption Allegations Suspended From Service

Kerala Official's Suicide: Complainant Who Levelled Corruption Allegations Suspended From Service

The suicide case of Kannur Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Naveen Babu is getting murkier day by day with T.V. Prasanth, who complained to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan against the official’s “corruption”, being suspended from his job at the state-run Kannur Medical College hospital on Saturday.

It was after the ADM committed suicide that a report emerged that Prasanth had complained to CM Vijayan that it was only after he paid a bribe of Rs 98,500 to Babu that he got the final sanction of a petrol pump for which he had applied in Kannur. Prasanth is an electrician at the hospital. Based on a report from the Health Department, he was suspended from service for violating the rule that anyone working for the government cannot engage in business.

Incidentally, the purported reason Naveen Babu took the extreme step was that at a send-off function for him on October 14, following his transfer to his hometown, Pathanamthitta, ahead of his retirement a few months ahead, uninvited CPI-M leader P.P. Divya, who was also the Kannur district panchayat President, launched an attack on him in her speech.

Divya said that a person had approached her to speak to the ADM regarding sanctioning a petrol pump station, which the official had not been clearing despite several requests. “Just two days before, Babu gave the sanction. I know how the sanction was given, and I will reveal all the details in two days,” she said. A few days after the official committed suicide, sparking a massive uproar, the CPI-M asked Divya to quit. The police also registered a case against her and after that, she is on the run.

A court in Kannur has reserved its orders for Tuesday on her pre-arrest bail plea. It has also now surfaced that Prasanth and Divya’s husband are colleagues at the state-run medical college and hospital at Kannur. Questions have also been raised on how an ordinary electrician can set up a petrol pump. Meanwhile, Congress and the BJP are up in arms and claim that Prasanth’s complaint to Vijayan’s office is fake as his name and signature are not his. They have alleged that if a proper probe takes place, it will reach the office of CM Vijayan and the CPI-M headquarters.
