Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) Assembly Speaker JCD Prabhakar has claimed that the party was able to form the government because it followed the teachings of the Bible, while asserting that knowledge, talent and ability all come from God, as reported in OneIndia Tamil.
Speaking at the fourth annual event of a Christian foundation in Chennai, Prabhakar said he had been closely observing the functioning of the TVK government since becoming Speaker and claimed that people had begun describing it as a corruption-free government.
“I have been closely observing what this government is doing and what is being reported in the news,” Prabhakar said. He added that people had started speaking of it as a government without corruption and as one led by a Chief Minister who wanted a peaceful Tamil Nadu.
Prabhakar then attributed knowledge and ability to God, saying that people should not assume that they themselves possessed all the knowledge and talent.
“If we think that we are great intellectuals, talented and that we know everything, there is nothing like that. Everything comes from God,” he said.
He went on to invoke the Bible, saying that those who believe in God would receive all that is good.
“Those who believe in Him will receive all good things,” he said, before making the political claim that the TVK government had been formed because it had followed the Bible.

The remarks come amid a wider debate over the perceived Christian orientation of the three-month-old TVK government, with Chief Minister Joseph Vijay, Speaker JCD Prabhakar, political adviser John Arokiyasamy and Finance Minister Marie Wilson among prominent figures associated with the administration who have publicly spoken about their Christian faith.
Vijay has also been using his full name, Joseph Vijay, following the election, while Finance Minister Marie Wilson had referred to herself as a Christian by birth during an Assembly speech.
Not The First Time
Prabhakar’s latest remarks also come shortly after his participation in an anti-abortion rally organised by the Catholic Church in Chennai.
Speaking at the event, the Speaker had opposed abortion and said that a person had no right to terminate a pregnancy. He argued that life begins at the moment a foetus is conceived and described every child as a gift from God.
This is not the first time that JCD Prabhakar has spoken like a true evangelist/Christian.
It began the day he recited Bible verses from the chair of the Assembly Speaker.
Then on 9 June 2026, addressing the Tamil Nadu Christian Churches Federation, Prabhakar said the government has shown “abundant signs demonstrating its genuine concern for the minority population” and told them to “make the best use of this opportunity.” Then he read out their wishlist: fast-tracked NOCs for church construction, dedicated burial grounds for independent churches in every district, monthly stipends for evangelists, a pilgrimage subsidy to Israel he wants hiked from ₹37,000 to ₹1 lakh, liquor shops shut on Good Friday and promised to carry it to Vijay personally.
On 16 July 2026, Prabhakar and several sitting TVK MLAs and office-bearers were listed as participants at a Christian Churches and Pastors Federation conference, with Vijay’s image featured prominently on the event poster.
On 25 July 2026, at a film trailer launch for a Jesus biopic, Prabhakar claimed the state is entering “an era where proclaiming the Gospel is becoming increasingly difficult.” This is the Speaker of the Assembly, playing persecuted minority, in a state whose Chief Minister is Christian.
This clearly shows that the TVK government is the Christutva face of Tamil Nadu.
