Protest Erupts In Nagercoil After Police Assault Youth During Ganesha Visarjan Procession

On 15 September 2024, a significant protest erupted in Nagercoil, Kanyakumari district, against the police who allegedly attacked youths celebrating with drums and music during the Ganesha Visarjan procession. The incident, which involved injuries to a youth, created considerable unrest.

The Hindu organization had obtained permission to hold a rally with Ganesha idols at Sanguthurai Beach in Nagercoil for the immersion ceremony, symbolizing Ganesha’s return to his celestial abode and bidding farewell until the next year. During the procession, the police reportedly attacked the celebrants, who were dancing and playing music peacefully.

This action was strongly condemned by Hindu organizations and the marchers, who halted the procession to demand an apology from the police involved.

BJP MLA Gandhi and other leaders intervened, engaging in discussions with the police as the demonstration continued for over four hours. The situation was resolved when District SP Sundaravathanam assured that action would be taken against the officers responsible. Subsequently, the procession resumed, and the idols were immersed in the sea at Sanguthurai Beach.

Previously, in V. Kalathur, Perambalur district, the police prevented the consecration of a Lord Ganesha idol, leading to a scuffle between the police and members of Hindu Munnani. The police claimed that the idol was being brought into the village without proper permission and thus blocked its entry. It is important to note that clear court orders allowed Hindus in the locality to celebrate the festival with the deity’s consecration, as is customary across India.

Members of Hindu Munnani were transporting the Ganesha idol in a vehicle when the police stopped them, which led to an argument and subsequent scuffle. According to a High Court order, organizers were required to ensure a peaceful procession. The police imposed a total of 19 conditions, including not offending others’ religious sentiments during the procession, before finally permitting the consecration and worship of the idol.

Does Thirumavalavan Have Self-Respect? DMK Govt Removes First Flagpole, VCK Chief Goes To Meet MK Stalin

In a fresh twist to the VCK-DMK alliance, local government authorities in Madurai removed a 62-foot flagpole, a reminder of Thirumavalavan founding Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), for road expansion. The VCK leader condemned the move, accusing the district administration of targeting his party. However, the party chief seems to be bending with the wind frequently, coming to the opposition AIADMK for an anti-alcohol protest while holding meetings with CM Stalin to strengthen his position in the ruling party.

VCK Flagpole Removed in Madurai

VCK raised concerns after authorities removed their iconic 62-foot flagpole, erected to replace the original 20-foot post installed by party chief Thol Thirumavalavan when the party was founded. The flagpole, located in Villur, Madurai district, was removed by local authorities, allegedly due to its interference with road extension plans. VCK functionaries quickly clarified that the flag had been relocated further inside the street and that no rules had been violated during its reinstallation.

However, on Friday (13 Friday 2024), police unexpectedly removed the new post. A.C. Pavarasu, a VCK functionary, condemned the move, stating that it was not the first time the district administration had targeted the party’s flag installations despite prior permissions. Thirumavalavan strongly criticized the district administration, particularly Collector M.S. Sangeetha, accusing them of deliberately targeting the VCK and its activities. He declared that the issue had been brought to the government’s and DMK ministers’ attention, and the party was expecting a favourable resolution.

The incident has raised questions about the relationship between the VCK and its larger ally, the DMK, with some wondering about Thirumavalavan’s next steps.

‘Power Sharing’ Statement

The VCK-DMK alliance, which has been united for seven years in its fight against sectarian forces, began with a flourish on 5 September 2017, at theMurasoli Festivalin Kottivakam. However, this partnership is now showing signs of strain. VCK has faced ongoing criticism for not speaking out against the ruling party’s alleged atrocities against SC/ST communities, a situation exacerbated within their alliance.

Recently, tensions have escalated as VCK invited the opposition AIADMK to join their protest for a total ban on alcohol, suggesting a potential future alliance shift. Adding fuel to the fire, Thirumavalavan has posted an old speech calling for seat sharing in the cabinet, further straining the alliance.

On 14 September 2024, Thirumavalavan posted a video on his official X account that quickly went viral. In the video, he stated, You should not speak out against it, should not protest, should not get high in education, should not aspire to hold a high position, and should not demand a share in the administration and power, then continued,  Whether anyone has raised the voice of a coalition government in Tamil Nadu before or not. The party that raised the voice for a coalition government in 2016 is Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi. Cabinet should be shared, not merely seat share but we need power share. I don’t know the history of whether previous organizations have discussed it… Power sharing is different from seat sharing. To ask for a seat in the cabinet is power sharing, and to participate in the coalition isseat sharing’. Some 4 or 5 seats will be allocated in that, too, power comes individually. Power sharing means that I also want to share in the power.”

The party sparked controversy by inviting the opposition AIADMK to join its protest for a total ban on alcohol. Now, their chief Thirumavalavan has stirred the pot further within his DMK-led alliance by sharing a video of an old speech in which he demands seat sharing in the cabinet.

Meeting With Stalin

Thirumavalavan and other VCK leaders met with Chief Minister MK Stalin at the DMK headquarters, Anna Arivalayam, to discuss several vital issues despite this tension. Later, when addressing the press, Thirumavalavan said that one of the main conversation points was the upcoming anti-liquor conference organized by the VCK on 2 October 2024 in Kallakurichi, which is set to advocate for total alcohol prohibition.

He stated that his party was committed to ensuring prohibition and reminded Stalin that both DMK founder C.N. Annadurai and former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi had supported this cause. He added that he requested the DMK’s involvement in pushing for a national ban on liquor as per Article 47 of the Indian Constitution. Stalin reportedly reassured the VCK leader that DMK representatives would attend the 2 October 2024 conference and confirmed that the state government would consider implementing prohibition in a phased manner.

Despite the flagpole controversy, Thirumavalavan emphasized that there were no rifts between the VCK and the DMK, highlighting that their relationship remained smooth. He stressed that his party’s ideological stance on power-sharing would be addressed closer to the election. Still, he added that the anti-liquor conference should not be linked to electoral politics.

Thirumavalavan responding to the flagpole removal has sparked debate, with some questioning whether his decision to meet Stalin was a show of subordination or simply a strategic move. While he continues to advocate for prohibition and greater involvement in governance, his critics wonder if these meetings reflect a weakening of the VCK’s independent stance in Tamil Nadu’s political landscape.

Over 100 People Including Nearly 40 Children Fall Ill After Consuming Biryani At DMK Meeting In Madurai

Over 100 People Including Nearly 40 Children Fall Ill After Consuming Biryani At DMK Meeting In Madurai

In a concerning development, more than 100 people, including over 40 children, fell ill after consuming biryani at a Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) meeting in Madurai, Tamil Nadu. The incident occurred on Friday, 13 September 2024, following a general meeting organized for party members. The gathering in Villur near Kallikudi also included the distribution of welfare items.

Madurai South District Secretary Manimaran presided over the event. After the meeting, chicken biryani was served to attendees, with some participants opting to take the food home to share with their families. Shortly after the meal, several people began experiencing symptoms such as vomiting and fainting. Over 100 individuals were affected by the biryani, including 40 children aged 3 to 12.

As symptoms worsened later that evening, multiple ambulances were deployed to transport the patients to nearby healthcare facilities. Victims were rushed to the Villur Primary Healthcare Centre, with others being transferred to the Virudhunagar Medical College Hospital and Kallikudi Primary Health Centre for further treatment. Hospital sources confirmed that the patients had suffered from food poisoning after consuming stale biryani.

According to local authorities, 29 individuals, including over ten children, receive treatment at the Virudhunagar Hospital, 30 at the Kallikudi Hospital, and 82 at the Villur Primary Health Centre.

The Thirumangalam Police have investigated the incident, led by Tirumangalam ASP Anshal Nagar, who questioned the victims. Initial reports from medical professionals suggest that the food may have spoiled due to a delay in consumption, resulting in food poisoning. Despite the alarming symptoms, it was confirmed that no life-threatening conditions have been reported among the affected individuals.

“VCK Is The Most Casteist Party In India, Not Just Tamil Nadu”, Says TN BJP Coordinating Committee Pres H Raja

"VCK Is The Most Casteist Party In India, Not Just Tamil Nadu", Says TN BJP Coordinating Committee Pres H Raja

Tamil Nadu BJP Coordinating Committee President H. Raja has condemned the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) as the most egregious caste-based party in India. This criticism came after the VCK labeled the BJP as a religious party during a recent press conference calling on various parties to participate in a protest against the total prohibition of alcohol in the state.

Given Prime Minister Modi’s birthday on 17 September, on 15 September 2024, the BJP organized a welfare program at the party head office, where H. Raja distributed various forms of assistance. Later, addressing the press, H. Raja took aim at the MDMK party and its leader, Vaiko. He challenged Vaiko’s claim that theHindutva gangaims to eliminate Dravidian parties, retorting,Vaiko says we want to destroy the Dravidian parties. Let him explain who was responsible for the MDMK’s decline. The party known as MDMK has vanished, So why are we going to have a job when you destroy the Dravidian parties yourself”

Raja commented that the Finance Minister’s claim that 5.6 crore Mudra loans were taken out in Tamil Nadu, suggesting that this number reflects multiple loans by a single individual, is misleading. He argued that the Mudra loan figures are unrelated to population size. Raja further noted that the BJP’s performance in elections should not be compared to the number of Mudra loan recipients. Despite the extensive Mudra loan scheme, the BJP saw a significant increase in support, with the National Democratic Alliance securing 80 lakh more votes in Tamil Nadu compared to previous elections, indicating growth for the BJP.

Taking a jab at VCK chief Thirumavalavan’s remark that inviting the BJP to the conference would lead to corruption because the BJP is a religious party, Raja responded sharply. He criticized Thirumavalavan, stating, “Not only in Tamil Nadu but in entire India, the most casteist party is VCK. Is he a leader of the Dalit and Scheduled Caste community? No, because the people of the Devendra Kula Velalar community are asking to be removed from the scheduled list and they do not accept any policies of Thirumavalavan. When Karunanidhi was the chief minister, he gave 3% internal reservation to the Arundhathiyar community, which Thirumavalavan strongly opposed. When he is a leader of a particular community among the scheduled castes and speaks of narrow casteism, can he talk about other parties or the BJP?”

Raja clarified that the BJP has always adhered to the principle, dating back to the Jana Sangh era, of welcoming members from all backgrounds without religious discrimination. He also acknowledged Thirumavalavan’s demand for a share in power within his alliance, agreeing that such a request is justified. Raja pointed out that the BJP has historically allocated power to coalition partners during the Vajpayee administration, thus supporting Thirumavalavan’s request.

Additionally, Raja criticized TVK Vijay for extending wishes for Onam but not for Vinayagar Chaturthi. He argued that Vijay’s omission of Vinayagar Chaturthi wishes was inappropriate and offensive to the sentiments of the majority community.

TMC RS MP Saket Gokhale Claims 50% Price Hike In Vande Bharat Contracts; Gets Fact-Checked By Railway Ministry

TMC RS MP Saket Gokhale Claims 50% Price Hike In Vande Bharat Contracts; Gets Fact-Checked By Railway Ministry

In a recent social media (X) post, Trinamool Congress (TMC) Rajya Sabha MP Saket Gokhale alleged a significant price hike in the Vande Bharat sleeper train contracts, sparking controversy. Gokhale claimed that the Modi government had revised a ₹58,000 crore contract for manufacturing Vande Bharat sleeper trains, suggesting a 50% increase in train costs. His post stated that the cost per train had risen from ₹290 crore to ₹436 crore and questioned who benefited from this increase.

Gokhale’s post read, “Modi Govt has revised the ₹58,000 crores contract for making Vande Bharat sleeper trains A train that cost ₹290 crores earlier will now cost ₹436 crores This is a train with ONLY AC coaches that poor cannot afford. Who is benefiting from this 50% cost increase in Vande Bharat contract?”

The Ministry of Railways quickly rebutted, labeling Gokhale’s claims as misinformation and clarifying the situation. The ministry stated that the cost increase was due to an adjustment in the number of coaches per train, not an inflated price for the trains themselves.

The Ministry explained that, under the revised contract, the total number of coaches remains nearly the same. Initially, the contract was for 200 trains, each with 16 coaches, totaling 3,200 coaches. The revised contract is for 133 trains, but with an increased coach count of 24 per train, also totaling 3,192 coaches.

They wrote, “Please stop spreading misinformation and fake news. Cost per coach multiplied by number of coaches equals the cost of train. In sleeper project, cost per coach is lower than all benchmarks because of the transparency in process. We have increased the number of coaches from 16 to 24 to make longer trains, keeping the total number of coaches in contract constant. This is because there is high demand for train travel. Earlier: 200 trains X 16 coaches = 3200  Revised: 133 trains X 24 coaches = 3192  The total contract value has actually reduced because there are economies when train length is increased. We are making record number non AC coaches (12000) looking at the high demand for railway travel.”

The Ministry further noted that the decision to increase the number of coaches per train was driven by the high demand for railway travel, particularly for longer trains. This adjustment has helped keep the overall number of coaches in the contract constant while making the trains better suited to meet passenger demand.

Additionally, the Ministry addressed the concern about affordability, emphasizing that they were making 12000 non-AC coaches to cater to the high demand for affordable railway travel, countering the claim that Vande Bharat trains would exclusively serve wealthier passengers.

The Railways Ministry underscored the transparency in the contract-awarding process, noting that the cost per coach in the Vande Bharat sleeper project is lower than previous benchmarks. This cost efficiency, according to the Ministry, was achieved through a competitive and transparent bidding process.

This is not the first time that Saket Gokhale has peddled fake news. On 22 August 2024, India Today reported that the CBI told the Supreme Court of a coverup in the Kolkata medical intern rape and murder case. TMC Rajya Sabha MP Saket Gokhale dismissed the report as fake news, but it was later exposed that he used a fake fact-check card, misleadingly attributed to India Today, in his defence. The media outlet later clarified that they did not issue the card, but Gokhale did not delete the post nor apologise for spreading misinformation.

TVK Vijay’s Selective Festival Greetings: Ignores Vinayagar Chaturthi, Wishes For Onam

TVK Vijay's Selective Festival Greetings: Ignores Vinayagar Chaturthi, Wishes For Onam

Kollywood actor-turned-politician Vijay, leader of the Tamizhaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), has once again shown that his party’s ideology mirrors that of the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK). While he deliberately refrained from acknowledging Tamil and Hindu festivals, the TVK founder chose to extend his greetings for Onam, a festival celebrated by Keralites in the neighbouring state, in a manner similar to the DMK’s approach.

On 15 September 2024, TVK chief Vijay shared Onam wishes on his official X account, stating, “Happy #Onam from the bottom of my heart to all Malayalam relatives! A hearty Onam to my very own Malayali friends.”

This divide and rule approach was apparent in Vijay’s previous political statements, where he supported the DMK’s stance on issues such as NEET and CAA. However, this time, his strategy backfired as netizens harshly criticized him. They pointed out that while Vijay releases his movie on Vinayagar Chaturthi to profit, he does not extend his wishes for the festival, accusing him of being a mere proxy to the DMK. Here are some of the criticisms:

Is Vijay’s TVK Acting As A DMK Proxy?

Yes, it appears that way. Critics, including political commentators, are pointing out that Vijay’s TVK party and Vijay himself are conspicuously absent from engaging in significant issues in Tamil Nadu. Instead, Vijay seems to be solely focused on issuing congratulatory messages through his social media handles.

Actor Vijay entered into politics with the formation of his party Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam in February 2024 and this move has often been compared to fellow actor and part-time politician Kamal Haasan and his party Makkal Needhi Maiam. This parallel is evident in the strategic moves and statements made by Vijay, which align closely with the ideology of the Dravidian movement and the DMK.

The political landscape of Tamil Nadu, gearing up for the 2026 state legislative assembly elections, will also be witness to yet another cine star namely Vijay, seemingly propelled by the DMK to echo their Dravidian ideology and potentially further divide the votes in the state.

This strategy echoes the historical move where Kamal Haasan entered politics at a time when actor Rajinikanth was contemplating starting his party, with Rajinikanth’s vision leaning towards spiritual politics. To counter this, the DMK strategically supported Kamal Haasan’s political debut to split the votes.

A notable example of Vijay’s alignment with the Dravidian ideology and the DMK is evident in his recent actions. He extended congratulations to the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and its leader Chandra Babu Naidu, along with the Jana Sena Party and its leader Pawan Kalyan, for their significant victory in Andhra Pradesh.

Despite the impending oath-taking ceremony of Naidu as Chief Minister on 12 June 2024, Vijay extended his felicitations. Additionally, he congratulated the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi party and the Naam Tamilar Party for their recognition as state parties in Tamil Nadu. Although indirectly, he also acknowledged the success of the DMK alliance in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.

Notably absent from his remarks was any mention of the BJP’s victory at the central level, where a meeting has been convened, and the NDA alliance has unanimously chosen PM Narendra Modi as the Prime Minister of India for a record third time, with the oath-taking ceremony scheduled for 9 June 2024.

This wish on Onam isn’t the first time that TVK chief Vijay chose to display his Dravidianist beliefs. Looking back at how Vijay exposed his alignment with the Dravidian ideology, it is noteworthy that on the auspicious occasion of Tamizh Puthandu (Tamil New Year) on 14 April 2024, amidst the festive spirit engulfing Tamil Nadu, Vijay stirred controversy by refraining from extending wishes to the people for the Tamil New Year. Instead, Vijay took to social media to share greetings for Ambedkar Jayanti, which coincidentally falls on the same day. This is the same strategy employed by the DMK on the auspicious occasion of Hindu celebrations and festivals such as Vinayagar Chaturthi, Saraswathi Pooja, and other festive occasions.

As expected, aligning with the stance of Dravidian parties, Vijay (very ignorantly) expressed opposition to the notification of CAA. His press release read, “Any law like the Indian Citizenship Amendment Act 2019 (CAA) is not acceptable in an environment where all the people of the country are living in social harmony. The rulers should give an assurance that they will not implement this law in Tamil Nadu.”

Based on these observations, it can be inferred that Vijay, a part-time politician and full-time actor, is yet another emerging foster project by the DMK and embodies the principles of Dravidian ideology in Tamil Nadu.

Conclusion

In conclusion, TVK founder Vijay’s choice to wish for Onam while neglecting Tamil and Hindu festivals reflects a strategy similar to that of the DMK. This selective neglect of Hindu festivals has led critics to argue that TVK is a proxy for the ruling Dravidian party. As Tamil Nadu gears up for the 2026 elections, Vijay’s actions will likely be examined for their true political intentions, with many questioning whether his party represents a genuine alternative or merely a continuation of existing Dravidian ideology.

Suspected PFI Involvement In Nagamangala Ganesh Procession Riot, Two Kerala Residents Named in FIR

Suspected PFI Involvement In Nagamangala Ganesh Procession Riot, Two Kerala Residents Named in FIR

A communal riot broke out during the Ganesh immersion procession in Nagamangala, Mandya district, in Karnataka, leading to widespread unrest and raising serious concerns about communal harmony in the region. Stones were reportedly pelted at the procession, and several shops were set ablaze. Allegations have surfaced regarding the involvement of members of the banned Kerala-based Popular Front of India (PFI) in orchestrating the violence during the Ganesh Visarjan.

Among the 74 individuals named in the First Information Report (FIR), two—Yusuf (A44) and Naseer (A61)—are residents of Malappuram, Kerala. Both are suspected of being affiliated with the PFI.

It is alleged that Yusuf and Naseer had been residing in Nagamangala for several days before the procession incident, with accusations that they played a key role in planning the riots. According to Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) Nagamangala Taluk President Ajit Prasad, their presence in the area, along with evidence of the purchase of 200 masks from a local medical shop on the day of the riots, suggests a premeditated attack.

Prasad further stated that Kerala-based Muslims were involved in using petrol bombs during the violence and demanded that the investigation be handed over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for a more thorough probe.

Karnataka’s Minister-in-Charge, Chaluvarayaswamy, attempted to downplay the speculation surrounding the involvement of PFI members in the Ganesh Visarjan. He stated that while a person from Kerala working in a bakery in Nagamangala was arrested for his role in the violence, there is no direct evidence linking the banned PFI to the incident. “Without a full investigation, it is premature to make any conclusions,” the minister said, calling for calm and peace while investigations proceed.

The violence escalated just half an hour after 24 District Armed Reserve (DAR) personnel, who had been deployed to guard the Ganesh procession, left for their meal break. Only seven officers were left at the scene when the mob began attacking with stones, sticks, machetes, and petrol bombs, leading to injuries among several police officers, including PSI Ravi. Many local shops were also set on fire during the chaos.

The Home Department has since suspended Inspector Ashok Kumar of Nagamangala Police Station for failing to ensure adequate security during the sensitive procession. His hesitation to provide meals to the reserve personnel and the subsequent reduction in the police presence is believed to have contributed to the outbreak of violence.

Pro-Pak Slogans Allegedly Raised During Ganesh Visarjan Procession In Mandya Dist, Karnataka LoP Seeks NIA Probe

Karnataka Leader of Opposition (LoP) R. Ashoka has alleged that pro-Pakistan slogans were raised during the Ganesh Visarjan procession violence in Nagamangala town of Mandya district and demanded a National Investigation Agency (NIA) probe in the series of similar incidents.

On the Mandya incident, senior BJP leader Ashoka, taking social media X, stated, “Eyewitnesses have reported that three miscreants shouted “Pakistan Zindabad” slogans during the communal clash that took place last Wednesday night during the Ganesh Visarjan in Nagamangala town. This has strengthened suspicions that banned organizations might be involved in the communal unrest.”

Ashoka further stated, “Following this, incidents such as the unruly display of the Palestinian flag by miscreants on a bike in Chikkamagaluru city, and attacks on Hindu youths for hoisting flags in Gandhi Nagar and Ahmad Nagar in Davanagere city, suggest that these provocative acts seem to be targeting the Ganesh festival.”

“Similar incidents occurred during the inauguration of the Ayodhya Ram Temple. It appears that Hindu festivals, celebrations, and events are being specifically targeted by these disturbances, which seem to be driven by a large network of communal extremist organizations across the state,” Ashoka stated.

“The local police are finding it difficult to break through this organized and sponsored network, which is believed to have interstate and international connections. Therefore, I urge Home Minister G. Parameshwara and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to immediately hand over these cases to the NIA for further investigation,” the LoP demanded.

Ashoka has also shared a video of the incident reported from Davanagere city where Hindus were allegedly attacked by a Muslim mob for erecting religious flags in the area during the Ganesh festival.

The video also shows members of the Muslim community along with the police trying to calm down the situation. Another video shows youth waving the Palestine flag and riding on a highway in communally sensitive Chikkamagalur district.

Clashes broke out between two groups during a Ganesh idol procession in Nagamangala town, following which mobs went on a rampage, targeting several shops and vehicles leading to tension on September 12 night.

Is Vijay’s TVK DMK 2.0? These Instances Show He’s Nothing But Just Another Pseudo-Secular Dravidian Stock

Is Vijay's TVK DMK 2.0? These Instances Show He's Nothing But Just Another Pseudo-Secular Dravidian Stock

Actor Vijay, who recently launched his political party Tamizhaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), seems to be repeatedly proving that the party is just a 2.0 version of the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhaga (DMK). Let us look at past instances where Vijay parroted the same stance as the DMK.

Not Wishing For Vinayakar Chaturthi

Vijay did not acknowledge or wish the people of the state for Vinayakar Chaturthi, a festival celebrated by 87.58% of the Hindu population in the state. Kollywood actor and TVK chief Vijay appeared to be deliberately avoiding respecting the cultural values and beliefs of Hindus and Tamils. This accusation is supported by his selective social media posts on his official X account.

Not Wishing For Tamil New Year (Puthandu)

Instead of wishing for Tamil New Year which is a significant festival for Hindus in Tamil Nadu, Vijay chose to wish his fans and followers for Ambedkar Jayanti, which coincidentally falls on the same day. This is the same strategy employed by the DMK on the auspicious occasion of Hindu celebrations and festivals such as Vinayakar Chaturthi, Saraswathi Pooja, and other festive occasions.

Stand On NEET

On 3 July 2024, at a special meet and greet to honour students who topped in the recently held 10th and 12th-grade examinations, Vijay resonated (TVK) with the DMK, expressing opposition to the NEET medical entrance examination. TVK chief Vijay said, “If you look at this NEET, it is a fact that the students in our Tamil Nadu, especially the rural areas, where the poor, the backward, the most backward, and the lower class, are all affected. Therefore, the exam discriminates against state students and should be eliminated.”

No Wishes For Krishna Jayanti

Vijay cautiously neglected even the Hindu festival of Krishna Jayanthi on 26 August 2024.

Wishing For Onam

Surprisingly, as if making a statement to reach out to his Malayali fans and followers, Vijay wished for the Onam festival.

DMK (MK Stalin) also had wished for Onam last year.

Wishing For Christian, Muslim Festivals & Other Special Days

He has acknowledged and wished for Muslim festivals like Ramzan and Eid, Christian festivals like Easter, as well as neutral days such as May 1 (Labour Day), Ambedkar Jayanti, Independence Day, and Mother’s Day.

This pattern suggests that Vijay, simping DMK sees himself as a proxy of the DMK, which follows a similar approach in Tamil Nadu. Critics argue that if Vijay’s new party is merely an extension of DMK policies, he might as well join the DMK directly and aim for a Rajya Sabha seat, as his predecessor part-time politician and full-time actor Kamal Haasan already laid the path.

If Vijay has an issue exclusively with Hindus and Tamil festivals like Vinayagar Chaturthi, it suggests he is viewing matters through a DMK lens. This approach to appeasement politics has already begun to trouble the DMK, and it is likely to cause similar problems for Vijay and his new party, which also seems to focus on minority appeasement.

TVK = DMK 2.0?

It is noteworthy that Vijay, who once proudly identified himself as “Joseph Vijay” and included the phrase “Jesus Saves” on his letterhead during his acting career, made notable changes when he entered TN politics. Upon starting his political party, he shortened his name to just “Vijay,” and the “Jesus Saves” message disappeared from his letterhead. Additionally, his letterhead now features a photo of him adorned with the sacred kungumam (vermillion). Many DMK members such as Jegathrakshakan, and Sekar Babu are often seen with religious marks on their foreheads too.

Conclusion

In conclusion, while actor Vijay forays into politics with TVK amid much attention, his stance and actions align closely with the leaders of the ruling DMK, raising questions about its uniqueness. His selective acknowledgement of festivals and political positions appears to echo the DMK’s minority appeasement tactics, suggesting that TVK may be an extension of the same ideology.

If Vijay’s political journey continues on this path, it will reinforce Dravidianist perils in Tamil Nadu’s political landscape. Ultimately, whether Vijay can establish an independent identity or follow in the DMK’s footsteps will be revealed as the 2026 elections draw closer.

We Need To Completely Eradicate Untouchability, Says RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat

We Need To Completely Eradicate Untouchability, Says RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat

On Sunday, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat said that society must completely eradicate the feeling of untouchability. He said this while addressing a programme of ‘Swayam Sewaks’ of Alwar at Indira Gandhi Sports Ground in Alwar.

The RSS Sarsanchalak said untouchability started because “We forgot our religion and became subject to selfishness.”

“The feeling of high and low escalated in society. Now, we have to eradicate this feeling completely. Change has to be brought through social harmony.

Bhagwat also called upon the Swayam Sewaks to incorporate five subjects into their lives, which include social harmony, environment, family values, Swadeshi and civic duty.

He said that when the volunteers will incorporate these things into their lives, then society will also follow them. He further said that next year, the Sangh will reach its 100th year.

The working of Sangh has been going on for a long time. When we work, we should understand what is the thought behind it. Our nation has to be made strong. We have been saying in our prayers that this is a Hindu nation. This is because the Hindu society is the reason behind it. If something good happens to this nation, then the glory of the Hindu society rises. If something goes wrong in this nation, then the blame falls on the Hindu society because it is the creator of this country,” he said.

Bhagwat further said that there is a need to make the country gain glory and turn it meritorious. “We have to become capable, and to accomplish this aim, the entire society will have to be made capable,” he said.

The RSS chief further said, “What we call the Hindu religion is the religion of humanity. It is a world religion and has been moving forward with the wish for everyone’s welfare. Hindu means the most generous human in the world, who accepts everything, who has goodwill towards everyone, who is a descendant of mighty ancestors, and who does not use education to create controversy but to impart knowledge. He is the one who does not use wealth to become intoxicated but to give charity. He uses power to protect the weak. One who has this character, who has this culture, is a Hindu. All of them are Hindu who have these values and whose culture includes these features.

Bhagwat further said that earlier, no one knew the Sangh. “Now everyone knows. Earlier, no one believed in the Sangh. Today, everyone believes in it, even those who oppose us. Their lips oppose us, but their hearts believe us. Therefore, now we have to protect Hindu religion, Hindu culture and Hindu society for the all-round development of the nation,” he said.
